- Опубліковано 20 лют 2019
- Elton performed numerous songs on the BBC music TV show, The Old Grey Whistle Test. Among them was ‘Tiny Dancer’ in 1971, destined to become one of his most enduring tracks. Just recently, it was given an official music video in the global UA-cam competition, The Cut, and is among the Elton John songs that can be heard on the Rocketman movie trailer starring Taron Egerton.

No strings, no backup, no studio production, and still as powerful and beautiful as the album version. THAT is pure genius.
Too-right!!Sheer and Unadulterated Talent!
I've been in awe of Elton John since he first hit the radio in the US - and I started buying all of his albums. (and Bernie Taupin, as well...)
better than the album version.
Modern day Motzart
Oops Mozart
Considering how long mankind has been roaming this planet, how lucky am I to have lived during the same blip of time as this man?
So true, Jane. And to think he's still around, doing his last ever tour - it will be an emptier place when he's gone.
Modern day Mozart.
Well said Jane. I could not have said it any better.
I’m so unlucky, if only I could’ve lived then and not now
Well Said
His vocals sound exactly the same live as the studio version. Incredible
The best check on real bands. Sound the same live as in the studio.
Not anymore I saw him live and he doesn't sound like this anymore...not live
@@ericjohnson8326 he sounds amazing right now as well. much better than paul mcartney. plus hes gone through a lot vocally. its a miracle he even has a voice as of now because if we look at how he has treated his through the years, hes been real lucky.
Even better than Studio version.
Thats what a real musician sounds like 🤙
Just Elton and his piano, perfect! I miss the 70s.
This is what raw talent looks like.

I'd be honored if some Elton John fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of LEVON and ROCKET MAN on my YT channel in tribute to the master of 20th century performance & composition. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Thanks and peace.
And will remain!
@@willritter4076 subbed to your channel, great content man. Keep up the good work
Possibly one of THE best live performances by a solo artist EVER.
Simply OUTSTANDING!!
No band to back him up, incredible.
Something so pure about this. I can’t stop listening to it.
He really is amazing. Simply amazing. Nowhere near Micheal Jackson but still
@My nuts lmao what, that's ridiculous bruh he's not even top 5
Idk. The 7:01 version of somebody to love on UA-cam by queen is unreal. The vocals are far superior
I was there. At the time, I had seen 35 years of great concerts ( including iElton in 1976). This one ranks up with the absolute best I’ve ever seen. A guy who played like he was playing his last show, in front of only what that hockey arena in Duluth could hold. Some 10,000 people tops were there. An incredible musician, who did not hold back one bit for a smaller venue. A guy who throughout the evening, thanked the audience and told them that they were the reason he plays. A hugely talented and gracious display. I’m so glad I was there.
😮 Boy I bet that was nice!💞💞
What a Treasure, Congratulations 💐🎉🥳🎉🥳🎉
The movie Almost Famous brought me here. Being a teen in the 70's, Elton John's music is timeless.
Can we also give some credit to Bernie Taupin. One of the great lyricists of our time.
He's Brilliant 👏
Bernie was the back bone of the success!
Yes, Taupin is good. But while I think it would be easy to Elton to find another person to write his lyrics, it would be extremely difficult for Taupin to find another person who sings and plays as good as Elton.
@@stephendedalus4122 Not that easy. Not that easy to write great lyrics.
Absolutely! I love Bernie Taupin!
Bernie Taupin wrote this about his Wife. Still gives me chills 50 years on.
I‘m not even 50 and I love it nevertheless
Her name was Maxine Feibelman and she indeed was a seamstress
@@monsterhog1118 what? Go away
Yes David this song gives me chills too!🥰
I have always liked EJ's music but never heard of Bernie Taupin till the recent movie much to my shame.
All i can say now is the mans a genius
I'm stunned...hold on, let me spit out a damned near flawless unaccompanied version of a song people will continue to be awed by 50 years from now....speechless at the talent on display
Going through an episode of depression... but Elton John songs are keeping me going
Try the Beatles too.
🙏🏽 music heals
Cheer up tiny dancer your never alone.
Hi Joanne i live with depression but i also love live music people everything that's want keeps us going even if we don't like it sometimes. Ps tiny dancer wrote the year i was conceived. 😎
Stay strong ❤
One man and a piano but sounds like an entire orchestra in heaven.
A top 10 favorite of mine!! My mom who passed was a June Taylor Dancer and My Dad a Pro Drummer. My inner little girl SMILES as she taught me ballet and passed way too young. Wondrous song!!!❤💃❤💃❤💃❤💃
True story... Elton John wired telegraph of condolences. He adored her. (Dont mean to boast but she was An Angel on Earth and Im so blessed)
@@dianeorr8937 Amazing. RIPeace to your dear Mother
what a beautiful comment, and SO right u are;, let me just repeat that: 'sounds like an entire orchestra in heaven', yes indeed-y ;)
Que coisa mais linda que você escreveu; era tudo que eu queria dizer. Lindo mesmo.
It sounds exactly like the studio recording. Not a single false note, not even a half step too sharp or flat, stunning.
man has perfect pitch.. impossible to mess up a note.
Simply the best Tune in the world!!
@@Tony-gu4szlevon
Imagine being talented enough to play the piano like this and sing like this. At the same time.
He wrote every word and note as well.
@@tbear4557 I think the lyrics were written by Bernie Taupin ..but still to be able to write music around words written on paper is amazing
i can't even belch and fart in time.
He is as talented as Taylor Swift
Very very rare. The longer the timeline of music as we know it stretches out the more obvious this becomes.
When I finally got to see Elton live, after loving him since 1971...I just sat in my seat and cried, especially when he sang this song. Brilliant.
I could cut and paste your comment as my own. Just saw him two days ago. Legendary.
I would of too. This song definitely hits
Just saw him last night. Man what a great show
saw him this evening, a dream come true.
Hell be in my area in October, and I have no money
This is one of the greatest songs ever I swear
Facts bro
Yes
Yup totally
Agreed!
Could not agree more
It is amazing to see him play this song so closely to the recorded version
flawless...almost better than the original recording.
thrasher X that’s talent my friend, it’s a shame that apparently it doesn’t exist anymore
Ur so right!.Honestly at 1st I thought he was lip singing until the middle..Brilliant..
Just like Queen perfomance of Hammer to Fall in Live Aid
Luro So much auto tune nowadays
Before the drugs, before the band, fresh songs, pure raw talent
Spectacular isnt he. Wow! Honoring a divinely guided partnership ...Bernie and Elton 🤗
This was Elton right at his peak, absolutely brilliant. Also highlights waht an amazing song writer Bernie Taupin was.
Bernie was the lyricist the melody is all Elton.
Elton had an uncanny genius for creating amazing melodies. it's a gift from god.

Elton and Bernie are one of, if not the greatest, musical marriages of all time.
i think Mel and Kim might have something to say about that...
Reallt damn good but cant top greg lake and pete sinfield
Paul and John did some good stuff.
Does anyone else just want Elton to re-record all of his songs with just him playing on the piano and singing? That would be fire!
Great idea!
Sure...if he still sang like this
@@bls8959Yeah, I'm glad he is still around, but i just can't enjoy his new voice as much, i wouldn't see him live these days, I miss his falsettos, but thats what comes with age.
@@lylahsworld3930he had voice surgery?
Most singers the voice changes with age plus using the vocal chords so much causes "wear & tear" just like any instrument used for a long time.
Why did it take Rocketman for me to cherish what a spectacular artist he is.Magical, legendary, genius just like so many others who have left. Can we prevent him from getting older please...i don't want him to ever leave
Better late than never! EJ was my first ever live concert in 1973. I've seen him live six times. He makes a great connection with his audience too.
Just a man and a piano. Amazing! Simple like that.
My favorite way to hear the man....
Elton John and Billy Joel...two of the greatest piano players, singers and showmen of all time.
Give some credit to the BBC sound mixers only the best
And a mic
In the 1980s I saw Elton John in concert 4 times. Three were huge, loud, rock and roll extravaganzas. However, the first was in a small proscenium auditorium. The first half was just Elton and his piano. The second half, Nigel Olsson came out and accompanied on drums. Obviously that first concert was far and away the best.
Pure talent. No auto tune, no studio mixing, no backgrounds, just pure unfiltered genius. The voice, the piano, the looks, the triple threat. Hair stands up on my arms when I listen to this. My generation could learn a thing or two.
Plenty of "pure unfiltered genius" out there right now.
I don’t think it would fit the current pop scene though but I wish music was more practical like it used to be
Just because artists aren't famous, in the charts, or top 10 on Spotify, doesn't mean there aren't a plethora of stunning musical acts. Get out the house and go down to a bar venue known to host good nights. There's an absolute metric tonne of musicians out their with great talent.
@@fungusamongus9686 Alicia keys, Adele, etc plenty still rocking the piano and great voice.
But yes, a fading art nonetheless.
shut up
I cant listen to any other version of this song. Goosebumps everytime.
Shows the respect the greatest rock performers on the planet in the 70’s had for the Old Grey Whistle Test - that they were happy to just turn up and play at their very best. How lucky were we to have that show.
No miming, no production no band, just Elton solo in his early prime - still magical😎👍
Loved pure Elton! But I must say, I'm going on 60 and love rockin' out to the brass he added on Honked Cat! That Alto sax just hits Elton's tunes straight to my bones and I've gotta ROCK OUT!!! (Grey hair and all 😎😆😂)
Elton John and Freddie Mercury were probably the greatest singers ever
I'd have to add George Michael too...the Holy Trinity of popular music so to speak?
the greatest live singers too
And Hector Lavoe
Robert Plant too
And Karen Carpenter!
This brings me back to the 70's growing up in Queens, NY. The man simply dominated the air waves back then.
The best of times back then. Class of 79 here.
Same here, Richmond Hill. 70's were great.
He dominated the Seattle airwaves also. Dominated my middle school and my life.
Takes me back to listening to records with my cousin in central Arkansas. It’s universal. He was everywhere 🙂
Same in rural North Carolina - believe it or not. Used to lifeguard at the local pool back then and everyday, Elton would be booming out of the jukebox. Those were the days.
This 65 year old woman has been listening to his amazing music since his beginning ❤🎶
This 76 year old woman has too.💕
The 60s-80s produced quality pop music the like of which we'll never see again.

A few months before this performance I saw Elton John at Riverside City College in California, during his first American tour. He came out on stage dressed in simple clothes and did the entire concert alone at the piano, playing hits from the Elton John album and Tumbleweed Connection. What a treasure for the world.
I live in Riverside, CA 😉
Treasure for the college
Woah I live there that’s insane to think about
Ever notice how the live and minimal versions of songs by real artists are better than the highly produced studio versions?
Look up Elton John Levon Live . The video from 1971 is phenomenal .

Yeah its like we are at his home watching and hearing his new creation after a good diner with him :)
Song to the Siren by Tim Buckley on the Monkees show is a case in point.

one voice. one piano. captivating from beginning to end. pure talent right there for everyone to see. impressive
That's crazy! The power and confidence of his voice is incredible. And, without a his band, and backing vocals. Powerful..
I'm shocked at how similar his "studio" voice is to his live voice
Agreed. This auto-played from a previous video. Had UA-cam in a hidden tab... I could’ve sworn this was the ‘studio’ recording.
Great voice
Yes- no difference that I can tell. Love everything about this song and performance ❤
Exactly!
Most of the older musicians really could sing; didn't rely on computer manipulation of their voices to sound good.
This man is an absolute world treasure. One Elton and one piano = magic
Very true
This, this is very close to perfection. Top tier piano (for pop piano music, this is harder than 99% of pop) top tier vocals. Early 70s Elton John was something else, honestly!
Young Elton.
So young.
So earnest.
