If anyone’s singing is in the same league as Freddie Mercury it is George Michael and this tribute is phenomenal. So sad that both of these amazing vocalists had to deal with homophobia and fear that coming out would destroy their careers. Some things ARE better now.
I couldn't have agreed any more with you. Freddie was no doubt number one, still George was a legend too!!! I am really sorry that they both passed away at a relatively young age but they have both left an amazing heritage, haven't they?
Fun fact: George is the only one who didn’t have to change keys out of all the singers of that day. He’s the only one who could sing in the same notes as Freddie. Due artisti di fama mondiale altrettanto bravi. Peccato che non ci sono più . Grande perdita, George il mio preferito sicuramente poteva cantare di tutto. Freddy grande nei suoi pezzi x il resto non saprei, poteva essere un buon tenore.
I have this theory that George and Freddie were long lost brothers. They were both the two most fabulous singers in any UK bands - and actually, any bloody bands you could name. I miss them both so much. xxx
5 things that made this phenomenal: 1. People weren't watching through their mobile phones. 2. The crowd sing a long "Luuuhhhhhhh-ooooveeee." 3. The energy. 4.. Freddie was there that night. 5. GEORGE FUCKING NAILED IT.
BestThing2 : Yes and in an interview George said about this performance that having seen this big smile from Bryan made him very proud, it was for him a Bryan approval of his performance
Whenever I think of live performances I always have Queen at Live Aid and George Michael at Freddie’s tribute concert at the top. The way GM has complete and total vocal control over this ridiculously difficult lead vocal really is outstanding as is the way he just feeds off the crowd and has them completely under his spell. Two legendary talents. Both gone far too soon.
I've attended hundreds of concerts in my life, but I wish I were born earlier to attend the 2 best concerts in the history of music : Live Aid and Freddie's tribute concert.
Its not to late. GM is worth loving even in death. Thats how I fell in love with FM. Freddy was already dead, but I still discovered him more and more.
I think this is why George will never be given a musical tribute like this one...he was the only one who could do justice to a Freddie song...however....NOBODY can sing George's songs anywhere close to George. 😔
I don't know....Mariah Carey did a pretty good version of "one More Try" on one of her albums. She did it without the usual vocal olympics as well. Just the way George did it. I'm one of George's biggest fans and I wouldn't even come close to approval if she hadn't done a good job.
im pretty sure the reason you wont get a tribute concert for George is because there arent any talented enough singers that could pull off his work but because this concert was a tribute to freddie and the foundation that was set up after his death to tackle AIDS
This performance is a real jewel! It's the best tribute that could have been paid to Freddie. It must have been very hard for George, though. Not only was he close friends with Freddie, George's then boyfriend also had AIDS at the time of the concert and he was in the audience.
I'm in awe! Brilliant performance of George Michael! He had really felt this song and sung it with all of his heart, soul and his powerful voice. I had no idea he has such vocal abilities. This is the closest version of the original sound of the song I've heard. Thank you George Michael!
In George's documentary he said that this performance was dedicated to his partner who was suffering from AIDS too (and died a year after this performance). George was still closeted then, so I can imagine how fucked up he must've felt onstage.
I’ve loved this performance for years, but I came back to revisit it after seeing the Wham documentary. After seeing how George struggled with his self image and wanted so badly to be a respected artist, I just hope he knew how great this performance was and how much it was appreciated. I miss him to this day. 😢
It makes me even sadder that he was singing out of grief for his partner in the audience who was dying of aids at the time. He described it as if he was singing a prayer :(
What I love about this is George knows he can’t be Freddie and sings it like he would if he had wrote it while still maintaining a spirit of Freddie, absolutely flawless performance
You said it perfectly. I feel like he thought a lot about how he would do this; it is so essentially him yet really expresses love for Freddie and Queen. It seems like this performance gave him deep satisfaction. I HOPE it did!

If anyone’s singing is in the same league as Freddie Mercury it is George Michael and this tribute is phenomenal. So sad that both of these amazing vocalists had to deal with homophobia and fear that coming out would destroy their careers. Some things ARE better now.
Очень жаль,что два таких талантливых человека были наказаны природой.В итоге эта ошибка природы и забрала их раньше срока
I've seen this video a million times and it never gets old. I cannot get over how brilliant George Michael is here.
Same here.i play it every week to every other day
Great performance
I couldn't have agreed any more with you. Freddie was no doubt number one, still George was a legend too!!! I am really sorry that they both passed away at a relatively young age but they have both left an amazing heritage, haven't they?
Me too !
I have it on my Playlist. I love me some george micheal
Браво,Джордж, браво❤ помним и любим
❤
George was literaly the only one to do any of Freddies songs justice... R.I.P you beautiful genius
jack glackin Amen!
Roger Daltrey did a great job with I Want it All but this was definitely the best performance of the night
I agree Jack... this was incredible!
Roger Daltrey
Gotta disagree with you there. Elton John did wonderfully that night
No one can do this better.George was the great singer on earth.❤🇵🇹.Amazing.❤
Fun fact: George is the only one who didn’t have to change keys out of all the singers of that day. He’s the only one who could sing in the same notes as Freddie. Goes to show how talented they both were and how amazing of a singer Freddie is (edit: i just found out this got a lot of likes and ig it’s not true, i read this somewhere and wanted to share it, i’m not deleting it though)
Angela Giroux Thanks. I thought he was right on target.
If someone knows this.. Did they (Queen themselves) used to start this song in key G and transpose into A♭ like this version?
@@nomorepancake88 they always play it in key Ab (studio and live version). Here is on key G but who cares, its fucking amazing too!
Geroge Michael is the only singer who even had the talent to be in Freddie's shadow
I mean... To be technical this is with the key changed down. But it's still really amazing!
This is an extremely difficult song to sing with the range that is required of going from high to low so quickly. George nailed it. No one else could have. It's just a fantastic performance from one of the most gifted artists we've ever seen on the planet.
Axl rose could have done it but it’s not really his style.
Adam Lambert. Equally talented and the range
@@stephrepp4226 Yes I agree but certainly Adam Lambert was not an artist then when this concert transpired.
What a WOW Fabulous talent and kind man. Love and Miss him . Absolutely THE BEST PERFORMANCE of this song - EVER 💖💖💖
Oh I couldn’t agree more. Freddie and George, such a sad loss to the music industry ☹️
When Brian May gives that nod and smiles right after GM gets the crowd to finish “Looooovvveeeee” that’s priceless. Perfect perfect perfect.
It sure was!! I never ever get tired of watching it. I love George Michael and I love Queen. ❤🎶🎼🎤🎧🌈
Estava nessa apresentação e nunca esqueço desse momento, um abraço 🍺🍺🗿🗿
É de se arrepiar
Oh yes, I noted that expression as well..,what a moment
My god George.. You showed everyone just how amazing you were. RIP George and Freddy.
There is no way to overstate this man's talent. RIP George.
Couldn't put it bettter! Thanks a lot and KUDOS for your brilliant comment.
This version is my favourite of this song. George did Freddie proud and he interacted with the crowd the same way Freddie would have. In my opinion it was the best performance of the tribute concert.
It is not only the best performance of this tribute concert, it is definitely one of the top 5 performances ever. Such a brilliant voice and overall performance!
He stole the show that day, no doubt about it.
This is the best live performance of all time. IMO.
Of all the tribute artists that performed that night the only one that got Brian Mays stamp of approval was GM!

No point in anybody trying to sing it like Freddie, George Michael gave it his own version and did it brilliantly
I have watch this many times, simply stunning performance
George Michael's energy was spectacular. Just like his beautiful voice ❤❤❤❤
Freddie Mercury and George Michael two outstanding talents gone too soon.
But you must not forget their positive influences. Legacies never die and both have very strong legacies :)
Literal chills. This is the only acceptable cover of this song.
Nope. Go look up Marc Martel.
Will Alvarez I know who Mark Martel is but he sounds so much like Freddie it’s basically the same. George Michael’s version is distinctive but also incredible.
@@ItsWill21 Are you kidding? George Michael had to get up in front of 100,000 people and nail it with all the members of Queen behind him. That was an outrageous performance. Watch the rehearsal footage with George owning it. Bowie looks impressed too ua-cam.com/video/46YZ8evUfKk/v-deo.html
Will Alvarez Marc Martel has a great voice but his cover of this song is nowhere near as good as George Michael’s cover.
julia It is a cover. George Michael is singing somebody else’s song so it is a cover.
He hit the stratosphere here awesome performance will go down in history as one of the Greatest Performances of All Times..
Freddie Mercury and George Michael, what talent they had. 😢
Oh damn so true. Both have such a gorgeous voices and nobody did Freddie like George.
I've learned that Freddie Mercury had no professional singing lessons. What a man! George Michael too! I'm a woman and not gay! So many gay men are so gorgeous to me!
The BEST LIVE PERFORMANCE i've ever seen. The (big) crowd is so amazing. No mobile phones, just pure love. We need a time machine... 😂
Yeah man, totally. The other performance I love is duet with Elton John
I agree
Sadly, Google Tube didn't play the entire version. Google owns YT. AHs!
4:05 Brian May's expression is priceless.
He was so proud of George at that moment. When George passed away Brian gave a very sweet and nice tribute on his Twitter but also said how sad and shocked he was of his death.
This still sends chills down my spine
Admiration
And Roger to
Brian knows George did this song justice and knew Freddie was smiling up in Heaven watching it
You can tell that Brian May is impressed by George Michael preformance. Pure class ❤
Have you seen the video of the practice session for the performance? Worth a look. David Bowie makes an appearance and you can really see how much Brian respects George.
Sadly, Google Tube failed to play the entire performance. Google owns YT! AHs!
It takes a brave man to attempt Freddie Mercury. It takes an exceptional singer to nail a Freddie Mercury
Jordan Smith He nailed it ! I'm fussy about covers but George did this one and a song called 'Going to a town' magnificently. Find it on UA-cam if you haven't heard it.
Jordan Smith and Elton johns don't let the sun come down on me. And he performed a live powerful unreleased song on the graham norton show
when I first heard this song in the radio, I thought it was Freddie singing. After the end they told that the singer was somebody else. O_o
Totally agree with you and Freddie and George both had amazing voices and gone far too soon
i always felt a similarity in their music. could easily have pictured crazy little thing called love be a George Michael song . anyways they were both great vocalists.
George wanted to do Freddie and the remaining members of Queen proud. He nailed it. Bloody fantastic performance.
3:45 Inside George Michael's mind: *Alright Freddie...* *This one is for you...*
Freddie in Heaven: *Well done darling.*

amazing
Gus Sondra nope.
I tell you true, I didn't think anybody could pull this one off especially the high note but hats off to George Michael.
When George finished singing this song, he just walk away out of the stage its like he didn't just gave one of his best live performance in music history.
He was a very humble person unlike many other
a true legend we will never see someone like him again so sad
George xx
George Michael forever ❤
I miss him.
I miss George, earth is a dark place without him 😔
There will never be artists like George or Prince or Bowie or Freddy again
One of the greatest vocal performances I have ever seen, capped by incredible stage presence and charisma. Brian May's smile, the ultimate approval!
No1 will ever do better
You dont see freddie mercury ??
Easily so.
I love Freddy but I like this version better ... George is the best
Nigel James ¡Y yo! 😍😍
He was amazing, I never thought he would be this good, he was amazing, so sad he died so young
if you have the entire crowd clapping and singing...you did Sir Freddy Mercury justice. This was just an insane performance.
This is just awesome, he doesn’t try to copy and imitate Freddie, it sounds like George Michael singing and it’s fucking awesome, he just nails it. Another gone far too soon, RIP.
Vdd, partiu cedo e foi triste a partida dele, mas deixou um legado lindo, o Fredy, lindas cançoes
This is my favourite performance of George michael’s
yeah he was excellent at this song, even in the rehearsals Bowie applauded him for it
@@lorrainebrennan6183 p90
Hands down one of my many favorites.
This and his mtv unplugged I can’t make you love me give me chills
Jura!?... Eu o acho sensacional cantando suas próprias músicas!! Já nesta performance , acho que de todos os cantores que fizeram algum cover, o George foi o que brilhou e encantou mais!! Difícil chegar na categoria do Freddy, mas George tem talento de sobra
If you are watching this in March 2020...We need that solidarity and we all need to love in order to live
Yep, we do
We will beat this duck we are strong God bless👍
❤️
Sorry , April 2020
Loveeee is the solution ❤️❤️❤️
My favourite thing about this is that the audience is all clapping... no phones. Immersed in the moment. Beautiful.
He made this song his own, without hijacking it. Just brilliant.
Exactly right , he was honouring Freddie mercury with that perfect performance of that song thank you George micheal
You can’t follow Freddie. But George Michael smashed this out of the park. A spine tingling performance. Utterly brilliant
Superbe reprise de Queen suis très fière de lui allez George
Those two can't nobody replicate
You just contradicted yourself.
@@jackielittle1729haha I did didn’t I? But you know what I mean
BEST cover of this song EVER!!
GEORGE had the most beautiful voice. He would have made Freddie proud..
Freddie will never be replaced but this is BEAUTIFUL!!!
Да это тоже песня Джорджа Майкла (кавер). Конечно сперва это песня Фредди Меркьюри и группы Queen 👑😏
Due artisti di fama mondiale altrettanto bravi. Peccato che non ci sono più . Grande perdita, George il mio preferito sicuramente poteva cantare di tutto. Freddy grande nei suoi pezzi x il resto non saprei, poteva essere un buon tenore.
Absolutely🙂
Yes, exactly! Fantastic!💜
I have this theory that George and Freddie were long lost brothers. They were both the two most fabulous singers in any UK bands - and actually, any bloody bands you could name. I miss them both so much. xxx
Christmas 2024 - George we miss you so much! But thank the Lord we still have your heavenly voice!
This is Freddie’s song, but George made this HIS song that night.
Too right!
Damn right he did !!
From his heart
GEORGE FOREVER AND EVER
@ Bryan Montanez Exactly.
2024 год. Мурашки по коже❤❤❤
Эпическая вещь!
DITTO!
Truth be told, George Michael was better than anyone, that they ever had or will have singing Queen songs except Freddie Mercury himself!!
I agree
P!ATD did a good job too
I absolutely agree with you. He had the voice and never tried to imitate Freddy.
I find Adam Lambert to be pretty good too! But this performance was smashing , I agree.
Adam Lambert as well, he is really good.
The only guy who could pull this off besides Freddy. Beautiful.
For all the autotune and lip syncers of today...This is what true, raw talent looks like!!!
Autotune? Never heard of it....
@@shadowthief9577 in the studio or @ home...melodyne plug-in.....it helps average singers like me ....george michael....amazing...

Facts
Was never a huge George Micharel fan, but he was the only singer at this concert to come close to Freddie's vocal range and power.
he is not only close then same or even better if you compare with 1979 Freedie in Montreal live
Extreme did a great job too! If you havent seen their performance go check it out
Clearly, you don’t know many singers then.
@@michalsenk117 where is that many who are similar to Freddie
Exactly.
I bet Freddie was sitting on the clouds with a smile and a tear in his eye.
Michael Wilson how can you have a smile in your eye? Jk
And saying "This is fabulous darling"
Speaking of which, have you seen this?

❣️❣️❣️
No tears.. xD just drinking and laughing saying how it was cool to other angels
Очень серьезный специалист, чувствует аудиторию, прекрасно отработал музыкальный материал - не подвёл ни в чём, просто красавчик.
Freddie : "You may sing my song, but don't make it sound boring"
George : "Hold my wine, brother"
Well said brother 😊
It still breaks my heart even after all this time... Freddy is missed every day
tom greaney FreddIE* but yes! Agreed
TC MUSIC apologies.... I bow my head in shame... but also in respect ✊
Nailed it
No one can ever imitate freddy Mercury, or sound like him,its impossible, but george michael done a damn good job singing that song ❤❤
Bo to tez ministre brillant
He didn't try to imitate Freddy in the first place.
Agreed!
Freddie is, of course, an amazing singer. This song, though now, belongs to George Michael.. Completely made it his own
We will never have enough of Freddy but Michael dud ut right....miss them both
5 things that made this phenomenal:
1. People weren't watching through their mobile phones.
2. The crowd sing a long "Luuuhhhhhhh-ooooveeee."
3. The energy.
4.. Freddie was there that night.
5. GEORGE FUCKING NAILED IT.
You are right...
SkyHigh87 Your comment makes the sixth, for sure. I suscribe every single word you wrote. I saw it live on TV. I could feel Freddy there too.
6. after 3:46', at 4:03' Bryan's BIG smile!
.
BestThing2 : Yes and in an interview George said about this performance that having seen this big smile from Bryan made him very proud, it was for him a Bryan approval of his performance
Incredible voice and performance. The only one that could give justice to Freddie❤
Amen to that, Brother!!
Yes! R.I.P to our legends. Thank you for the music and getting me/us through some tough times!!
Totally agree with you ! George Michael was really great at Live Aid, too, accompanied by Elton John, with Phil Collins on drums !
Brilliant perfect words 👏 ❤️
I was never a George Michael fan but when I saw this performance I did think "My God this guy really is something exceptional"
Its not to late. GM is worth loving even in death. Thats how I fell in love with FM. Freddy was already dead, but I still discovered him more and more.
George has many great songs both with Wham and by himself
George Michael is amazing, I really love him ❤❤ miss him so much ❤
Me neither, then I checked out the Unplugged tapes. Now a fan
Same here
I think this is why George will never be given a musical tribute like this one...he was the only one who could do justice to a Freddie song...however....NOBODY can sing George's songs anywhere close to George. 😔
david godfrey amen to that one his voice is out of this world.
JR Richards, the original singer of dishwalla, does a great job of one more try. You should check it out
Only Elvis had his range perhaps.
+Tati Camillo That's why George Michael deserves respect, admiration and thankfulness!
look for the rehearsal on youtube, MAGIC
FairyFleur
Lovely.
FairyFleur
The closest your get Toulouse Freddie,
What a brilliant voice.
WTF. is Adam Lambert.
Me too - I never saw Wham but I was at this concert, George (and Lisa stansfield) stole the show.
Great documentary!😊
It makes me even sadder that he was singing out of grief for his partner in the audience who was dying of aids at the time. He described it as if he was singing a prayer :(
É tão difícil viver sem eles. E saber q eles se foram cedo demais. Tinham tanto ainda por fazer. Deixaram um legado maravilhoso.
It doesn’t get better than that!❤
3:59 Brian says through his eyes emotionally: Thank you George, such a fitting tribute.. Nobody could have filled the emotion better
Youre damn right!!!
Hell Yeaaahhh Bro same thinks 😎🤙🏼🍻
He was HAPPY ! - on behalf of Freddie himself
Yeah - and Roger Taylors emotion at 3:46!
he smiles
This man had total Class, well dressed always, soft spoken, voice of an angel
What I love about this is George knows he can’t be Freddie and sings it like he would if he had wrote it while still maintaining a spirit of Freddie, absolutely flawless performance
You said it perfectly. I feel like he thought a lot about how he would do this; it is so essentially him yet really expresses love for Freddie and Queen. It seems like this performance gave him deep satisfaction. I HOPE it did!
I agree, he gives a FEEL of "this is for you, Freddie".
Absolutely couldn't have said it better myself.
Maybe best cover ever?
This is probably the best cover of this song ever made. George Michael did the exact same thing as Queen did at Live Aid... He stole the show!
One of the best live performance of history.
Victor Dominguez right under Freddie and Queen at Live Aid 1985
What MrDuds1984 said!!
Indeed.
Definitely
Without a doubt 🥰
Brian Mays face says it all. Well done George. You are sadly missed..
