If the blurry effect of the glass bothers you a lot, consider turning off Depth of Field in your in-game graphics settings. You lose your distance blur (I prefer this personally but I understand others like DoF) but you'll also lose the strong blurring effect on the glass.
While I worry about the durability of the build, mainly for the accidental swing of a tool or weapon, I do enjoy the look of the iron bars in the glass. It kind of looks like a design rather than the blurry look, in my opinion.
If you're using darkwood arches one the top right & left facing each other you can even build a 3x4 glass front without further supports. It's looking a bit less obstructive than having a bar or floor tiles in between...
I'm fine with the Crystal 1x1's not being load bearing but at least allow us to "stack" them on top of each other to a reasonable height, say 4-10 tiles high (1-2.5 meters). I'd also love to see these as a 1x1 "Floor/Ceiling" tile at some point.
It's crazy to see this little early access game with such a small team nail the build system that big name titles like Fallout 4 & Conan Exiles try to implement with such mixed results
I’m still so addicted to this game. Even with New World out. I was so stoked for new survival builds with the update! Highly recommend Plains-glass-builds ^.^
Im in love with the 1x1 cage. You can rotate it and stack for structure. Its not a lot but you can build decently hight. They arent really visble. And depending on your build not very noticeable. Also LUV LUV LUV the room divider. You can hang a lot. You just need a support of some kind every so often to support the roof well. It hits the glass dead center so both sides have some glass
The blurry thing when you look at the glass is an artefact of game rendering and depth of field. Translucent objects don't register in the depth pass, so its adding depth of field blur to what is behind the glass, and in doing so the glass gets blurred. Glass can be removed from the depth of field, but then it would never be blurry, even if in the distance, this is the same in unreal engine too, and would need some complex workaround, or in depth and performance costly tweaks to the render engine code.
Great video. I built under ground and lined the walls with glass. Four high all round. So they went up against the stone dig out no problem and looks great.
I have lots of friends who love valheim, but we all are disapointed that we get no curved walls, im not talking glass, just curved stone mabe? ill keep my fingers crossed , lol ive just started messing with glass this vid helps a lot , ty
I'd love crystal panes to be available in other shapes. I've made a few triangular and hexagonal windows and I had to "waste" a lot of crystal to fill in the edges.
I hadn't gotten around to watching this vid for last 2 weeks. This change with Glass now in the game is interesting. You can certainly build a Hearth Fireplace surround in glass and maybe that has a dazzling light effect when area around is dark. Other dazzling effects from Fire and Glass. However, I build a Super Mega Pyramid in middle of Ocean on small land that was. It's a see thru Pyramid with stone base, all 6 lvl stone floors supported from ground up, but Wooden side 45 Degree beam structure. This new glass is an idea for some floors that are see thru airy floors, especially the more upper floors as wind can freely blow thru all the floors blowing thru the side structure beams which is cool in middle of ocean build. Birds can fly straight thru if you can imagine and have. But the one problem i've always had was that when it rains it does on every floor on the outer perimeter of each the floors as the rain falls thru the side structure beams. I like the openness feel. But what I think i can do with the glass is like a crown molding effect "maybe" on the underside of the floors with glass as like a screen to the wooden side beams. This preserves the see thru effect of the Pyramid, maintain lots of light which it has, yet helps to blow some rain from across 2-3 tiles of floors to just maybe 1. It would need so much glass, it would be painful to come by. There be no way to get even enough for the pyramid in a practical way. But as i watched this. I very much know, there are some players out there thinking of building a "Crystal Tower" all in Glass of some kind. That would be EPIC! Someone is thinking of that for sure!
These comments make no sense. Any one who has seen glass in real life would know, glass windows can be extremely large. Also this being "crystal" it should be a lot stronger than just basic non tempered glass. Also why not allow us to "latece" the crystal. Like with beams or would in-between the layers of glass.
You were one of the first and the most quality Valheim guides/videos out there, but i have one question and little complain if i can ofcourse(maybe there is a reason your doing this) When are your videos going to be in 60fps ? :O
Thanks for the kind words. Also probably never. I just don't see the point in 60fps videos. Did you know nearly all movies and tv shows are shot at only 24 fps?
You should do it, because its a game and that it may be a fun project for you to attempt to do that can be fun. Yes, it may be tedious. But compared to an idea i have to incorporating the New Glass into an existing build, your need for Glass for a Sauna house is far less tedious than needing Glass for a 20 x 20 Stone Base Mega Pyramid with 6 floors (stone) in the Middle of the Ocean that already exist and build for some time now. Its 45 deg Wooden Beam Structure all around. But, Glass would just be incorporated to add accent to the structure on some floors specifically for throne Bedroom as well the outer floors for specific reasons. I don't even think I can practically farm that much glass on the entire server. But, its the plan! Your's is far easier doable for a fun idea.
The blur might be due to depth of field. I don't know if you have that enabled, but I'd check. I find depth of field unpleasant, and in some games its far too aggressive
Unfortunately I can't build with glass yet nor dark wood, currently doing a base build without killing elder boss so I don't get trolls event, I have managed to get 6 iron ore from oozers (30% droprate), managed to find onions (turnip and carrot) seeds and luckily enough that chest contained 5 obsidian for a toolshelf and 8/12 wolf pelt so far for my current max comfort level without having stepped into the plains. I have build my base into a maypole and currently need 4 more wolf pelt so I can build a dragon bed. Just a bummer the dark wood is locked so late into the game. It is starting to look awesome though. It's a fun way of playing the game so far it's super grindy because the oozers are super rare but I don't get my maypole smashed to pieces while I'm not strong enough to kill 2 trolls quickly lol. Soon my stone walls will fix that though
I decided to kill the elder, I managed to complete my build had t5 workbench managed to build with stone etc without killing the elder. It was fun (and peaceful,no troll events) upto the point when it came to making my storage. I did not want to rebuild it and gathering that much iron from oozers would have taken like 60 hours lol
I'd hazard a guess the "blurry" thing is because you have "depth of field", or one of the other "terrible graphics options that aren't actually improvements", turned on.
Great vid as usual firespark 81, but no thanks to the devs for nerfing the comfort bonus(if devs read this- there needs to be something fun about the game, at least one thing that's not affected by another) (i.e. -running out of stamina and killing yourself instead of waiting to get more stamina to go get more stone from a chest)
I say stupid things sometimes, but I'd be honored if you'd stroll through my world built many massive bases already, can't really miss them if you run 300 meters in any direction 🤣 will join discord, help yourself to portal material just leave one in the hub if you start one😉
Did people really have a hard time figuring out how to build with glass that a video had to be made? Lol I would ask if people are really that slow, but I work in I.T, so I know people are literally that slow, where they can't comprehend the most basic of things.
Yeap, it's good content and that's his job to make content and with ideas that everyone can use. I can figure out how to use Glass, yet just watching something from someone you enjoy watching does also give ideas i can use or as well realize why i maybe cant attach something a certain way thinking it's a bug but its intentionally designed that way.
If the blurry effect of the glass bothers you a lot, consider turning off Depth of Field in your in-game graphics settings. You lose your distance blur (I prefer this personally but I understand others like DoF) but you'll also lose the strong blurring effect on the glass.

zooming all the way in before pulling out the hammer helps a lot when building, esp. when trying to get that glimpse underneath something
If you sit, your view moves down too, so its easier to see underneath the beams and build!
I never thought of that!
Glass house
Greydawrf
Throws rock
Sitting (by pressing "x", wait for the animation to finish!) is quite helpful at times when buildung stuff to the underside. ;-)
Best explained video I found about building with glass. One tip - if you sit down it is easier to connect hanging pieces.
5:51 press X to sit down, it will lower your perspective to clip building underneath in those situations
I'm fine with the Crystal 1x1's not being load bearing but at least allow us to "stack" them on top of each other to a reasonable height, say 4-10 tiles high (1-2.5 meters). I'd also love to see these as a 1x1 "Floor/Ceiling" tile at some point.
Oh nice. I’m glad you covered this. 💜
Ok, these tips are absolutely gold!
Thank you so much!

5:59 you can also sit to lower you eye-sight and put the underneath blocs
Great tip!
You can use the darkwood dividers just like you used the iron, way easier to farm and looks pretty good as well.
Great video. I built under ground and lined the walls with glass. Four high all round. So they went up against the stone dig out no problem and looks great.
Those who live in glass houses should be wary of trolls.
you can use that new carved darkwood divider to snap glass to as well.
I have lots of friends who love valheim, but we all are disapointed that we get no curved walls, im not talking glass, just curved stone mabe? ill keep my fingers crossed , lol ive just started messing with glass this vid helps a lot , ty

Maybe in the next update we can have greenhouses and grow rare plants.
I love that idea, with the addition of growing raspberries, blueberries, thistle, cloud berries, etc.
Or barley and flax in none plains

Do you mean "lattice"?
I stumbled into the "snap to the underside" myself, but the iron grate is a "grate" idea. 😂
And the "snap to floor" is also new to me and very kewl.
Make two glasses on and then put in the glass Carved Darkwood divider and on the sides put a darkwood beems. AND it look so good
I’d rotate the iron bars sideways like you did with the item stands at the end of the video.
You were one of the first and the most quality Valheim guides/videos out there, but i have one question and little complain if i can ofcourse(maybe there is a reason your doing this)

I think as long as glass is directly touching a framework of some sort you can build it-ex: 2*whatever tall/wide
I NEED TO GET BACK INTO THIS
A glass floor, now that would be cool.
Shame they didn't implement that.
did someone already tell you that you can just place the beams and delete them afterwards
Woot?
When I tried to do so my glass wall collapsed where I removed them...
This gave me a great idea for a bath house sauna thing, but -.-, farming crystal is very tedious.

You know what they say about glass houses, you shouldn't throw trolls.
what about grey dwarves?
@@Firespark81 I wouldn't throw those either, just to be safe
@@Firespark81 - NOBODY tosses a dwarf!
I saw a build that had glass flooring. How to you make it go in at that angle?
I cant be the only one that thinks the glass looks like ice?
Well it's crystal from a icy rock golem so I guess that makes sense
Question. Can you attach glass to shutters so it will move when you open the shutter?
What about building a circular structure?
2 high, not tooooooo high. Words, indeed.
Reminds me of my son when he was little. When I would put something in the microwave, he would tell me, “just 1 hot. Not 2 hot!”
build a glass fire place
Awesome. Think the title is a typo though. With* glass not In* glass?
I'd hazard a guess the "blurry" thing is because you have "depth of field", or one of the other "terrible graphics options that aren't actually improvements", turned on.
you can turn off depth of field effects
What's the maximum build height of only glass?
EDIT - Nevermind, saw how nonsensical the glass placement is.
did you watch the video?
1 piece.
I honestly don't see why glass would give comfort, I saw it as a bug when it came out.
Is it just me or do the rugs no longer stack? I don't have a lox 1 yet so don't know if that's different
its blurry cuz you have the depth of field enabled
kinda frustrating they made building with these crystal walls so difficult.
How to build with class
I say stupid things sometimes, but I'd be honored if you'd stroll through my world built many massive bases already, can't really miss them if you run 300 meters in any direction 🤣 will join discord, help yourself to portal material just leave one in the hub if you start one😉
Using glass to make windows is good... but making an entire house in glass is way to minecrafty for me.
But who doesn't want a completely glass bathroom on top of their house with a 360 view from their transparent silicon throne?
You know some players out there are already thinking of how to build a Crystal Cathedral now with Glass.
Like your voice 👌
I shall make green house
They made this pointlessly complicated
With this, I agree.
The game is almost a year on early access all players should be given Odin dlc at this point
Did people really have a hard time figuring out how to build with glass that a video had to be made? Lol

It's content brah, that's firespark's job
Hard to imagine indeed.
The way to use glass is self explanatory.
However the thumbnail triggers me to check the video out for some build ideas
