Ah finally, a chimney that addresses the rain. I have a chimney that protects from the rain, but I am looking for something smoother like this. thank you.
What I like most about this video (and why I subbed) is that I actually feel like I'll remember everything for once. A lot of build videos are great, but they sort of overwhelm me with an entire mansion or castle. This can be a nice cozy addition to anyone's build as long as it fits. Speaking of which, I've got some remodeling to do.
Love it, I have NEVER been happy with my fireplaces and this is perfect!.... only downside... now I have to go back and retrofit all my buildings in three game worlds... LOL!
Wonderful build! I hate having the angled roof sections on all my chimneys. This is pure genius. Also it is so nice to see current content. The older content is ok but outdated in some respects.
You can also put the Rooftile pointing backwards and make it go deeper in - that way you can also have some Oven or a Smithing Station in the lower Levels of the Buildings (or upper) as well, all usin one Chimney.
Very nice, I thought maybe you'd have to angle another roof section inside there, but I guess 1 section covers it, thanks for the video, I'll definitely be adding this to my builds
I've been playing Valheim for the first time 3 days ago because of these building movies, I made 2 little homes with very clear improvement each. Now working on the 3rd one and it's the most complex build yet, using this fireplace as a base and a spacious basement for storing food and distill mead. I do sometimes see the fire go off on its own for a few seconds and then go on again, not sure what's happening here. Anyhow it seems to work like a charm otherwise! I'm implementing this in all my future homes now, and when I do it'll remind me of Chiselchip!
Glad you like the designs :) as for the fire going out, it may be because of lag, but also if you have more than just the hearth fire in there using the same chimney the smoke could be too much in which case it will switch on and off
Nice design. I did something similar on my multi floor castle build using the angle roof but I was using the same smoke vent for 3 fireplaces on each floor.
Most of my large builds have one chimney for every smoke source I can het under there. I love seeing thick smoke when the house is actively being lived in.
Nice design. I like it. For tall chimneys, I use the iron gate inside the stone blocks at the back and just stack them as high as I want to go and then they get covered by the block.
Great video. It is a similar chimney design to what I typically use myself. Although, I normally place an angled roof over the top like most people. I didn't know that the hearth would remain lit if it was only exposed to small amounts of open sky above - so thanks for that bit of knowledge.
Oh thank u.. I've been trying to find a better way of building chimneys for a while.. just built two of these on my existing build and they look amazing.. thank u very much for sharing this these will be my go to for all my kitchens now 🙂
@@Chiselchip super chuffed with them.. going to play around with them on future builds for bigger structures.. kinda adapt them a bit but I'll defo remember where I learned lol 🙂
I seem to remember Valheim from a couple years ago requiring a 2x2 hole for smoke to escape. This is the size of the large floor piece. Anything smaller and the smoke would be trapped. I thought that was dumb then. I even killed myself once making a tiny hut with a small opening in the roof and a campfire inside, then clicked to sleep before I noticed I was taking smoke damage. How small was my opening? It was a 2x2 hole in the roof with 1m vertical beams supporting a roof piece. That left 4 openings that were all 1x2 for the smoke to exit and it didn't. Your chimney has 1 such opening and it works. It looks like the game changed for the better.
@@Chiselchip ooh, I didn't know that... was already in the rhythm of building 2x2 inside chimneys. Time to trim. So now smoke can move in 1x1 or what's the rule?
I'll have to try this out, always thought it wouldn't work since there's still an opening for water to fall on the hearth but I never bothered trying it
Have you tried using a temporary door frame to get a half meter snap point? then you can put the 45 degree roof completely inside the stone and not stick out either side
That's a nice design. Thumbs up! I've been doing something similar then capping the chimney with dvergr walls (1 meter visible) to give the appearance of spark arresters.
Excellent build! How do you deal with rain damage to the top wooden pieces? Do you just accept it as the cost of doing business, or am I missing an element?
I just got bronze so I’m nowhere near this stage but this looks great. Do you think this method would still work with the full size hearth in relation to depth? If you used two 45 degree roof pieces front to back would that still prevent rain from putting the fire out? Ideally I would like to make a huge fireplace, possibly multiple hearths in one…
I dream of valheim devs one day finally making fires work properly. Because it's absolutely ridiculous when a hearth in a chimney goes out because 10 meters directly above it it is not covered by a roof. Or in a giant "tent" where you have a fire in the middle and leave the top of it open for the smoke to escape (actual way it is built irl), because, again, 10 meters above it, the fire doesn't have a fckin roof. I seriously doubt that it's hard to make this work
this looks really good, but it'd look even better if you added a chimney cap instead of the roof inside the chimney... chimney caps are VERY important in real life, and they have been used since the inception of indoor fireplaces. they were very prominent in viking culture as well, so for me, designing a chimney without a cap just looks odd and incomplete
Nice very pretty! Have they patched the smoke? used to need a bigger hole for the smoke I'm sure! If you hold (think is shift, might be ctrl) anyway you can place off snap, best metal support is an iron gate inside the wall hidden can go really high.
Hey so I built this as depicted but i'm running into two issues. 1) the hearth makes more smoke than can be exhausted. This is leading to the smoke coming into the house (not a big issue since it's only a little and I have high ceilings. However, I can't stand right up against the hearth or the smoke will suffocate me. 2) Because of the smoke, the fire sometimes goes out for moments at a time. Are you running into these issues?
Thanks for the comment! I have run into those issues in the past but it seams to be only a few times that it does that... maybe the location of the house, wind, instances, etc? I'm still not positive
@Chiselchip hi I really love this build been using it on quite a few builds but wondering if there is a way to build it stacked ? Like on a real life castle the have fireplaces on different floors. Glad you enjoyed it! Great question! For me, I like to do stacked fireplaces as long as the chimney height between each fireplace is high enough to where the smoke will not smoke the room or put out the fire. You could make a really fat chimney, and just have each fireplace, staggered slightly back from the other, but I mostly like to have them directly on top of each other, and in reality only the top level fireplace is the one ventilating smoke out of the chimney, the other fireplaces just have the smoke being trapped at the top of the chimney as long as your chimney is high enough before the next fireplace goes on top of it

Having nothing but trouble getting smoked out. I've torn this thing apart several times and started over and still no luck. Anyone else have this issue and find a fix?
Sorry to hear! It’s just been you and one other that can’t seem to get it to work. Hopefully you find a way, in his case it was because there was too much smoke in the house from torches and another fire next to it that it was too laggy and too many instances so it didn’t go out properly
@@Chiselchip It's my only fire and I can't stand near it or I get smoke damage. No torches nearby, no other fires. I might just bust it all down and and push it further back and build out bigger that one extra block that was left empty. See if that helps.
