I am in awe of how well explained and thought out this video is, not only the approach you take when explaining things, saying which thing your going to go over first and which later but the emphasis you put on certain words also helps with understanding and remembering what you’re saying, honestly you’re a way better explainer than a big portion of teachers I’ve had lessons with. Great content, even for just killing time not only actually looking to learn how to build great roofs in valheim.
@@9byte Well thought out, to the point, no annoying music an no self promotion until the end. Bravo!! All tutorial videos should be this rewarding. Thank you!!
I found this video very handy, man. For whatever reason, I have always had trouble with roofs, probably because my brain don't work no goods. I'll come up with an ambitious design, choke deploying the roof and ultimately wind up with a big, boring square building. I hadn't considered a roof frame rather than lining the roof up flush with walls.
I've been looking up dozens of build videos for ideas. House structures, boat docks, comfort levels, forge areas, tips, tricks, etc. I gotta say, out of all of the videos I've seen yours is the most concise, well-thought out, and perfectly explained. These roofs look amazing, I'll be checking out more of your vids. ☺
This is one of the best build videos I’ve seen on this game. Every time I try to go hard on a building I mess something up by the micro and then it screws the rest up, and I’m like “fuggit nobody will see it anyway” but it still irks me
These games actually teach you a tiny bit about actual construction. As a roofer, these angles are used a lot. 33, 45, the way trusts and batting support the roof. With a few added mechanics, it could be super accurate. We could use a construction simulator, teach our younger peers that building in real life isn't so much scarier.
Yeah they just need to add a few more options to make it more accurate and realistic. It incredible how much you can already to with this game. A few additional things would just make it amazing.
This is an insanely helpful video, just what I needed. I've been looking to up my building skills, but roofing is always holding me back. Thank you SO MUCH! I also love in the video that you suggest building along with you - something I would've never thought to do, but is a great idea and very helpful! Subscribed~
Yeah thank you. Look forward to the next one. Sometimes I just cannot figure out how to fill gaps and not have overlaps...and it very difficult to tell just from looking at most build videos how people pulled it off. This was insightful for me so thanks
I have been struggling with every one of these scenarios so this is the video I've been waiting for!! Thank you for these very useful tips to some frustrating builds, lol.
Whoot whoot! Great and detailed video! I'm used to finding center and building a temp pole on the ground to however high you want. Building the roof out. Then removing the center pole.
Awe man thank, I’ve been look new great ideas for roof building. A vids show what did but not necessarily how they did them this should help me greatly.
Seriously good video, i want to build so bad, but i get boored after i try many things and the roof just create so much problem in filling in or even when i try to recreate other peoples circual roofs or stuff like that it doesn't work for some reason, with just an idea on HOW to fill it in yourself, it will give me ALOT more freedom to build what i want and try your different methods and then expand on it myself!
When i do circular roofs i do a reverse roof on top so they overlap. 30* up then 30* down. Or i build a space for smoke if needed. Simply reversing roofs also makes some unique building looks. Heck you can even make it look like a drain pipe when building someting on ground with them.
@@DR-Hon Not sure about that, because in Valheim, smoke needs a hole bigger than 1x1 to vent properly, unless the roof hight makes venting unnecessary. Thanks for answering anyways! 😉
@@nozee77 it will vent a small amount of four side so long as it’s not a lot of smoke, that we’re height comes in , the height lessens the amount smoke that be at the Top
Say "additional roof feature" again ;) Nice video tho, you have a very different building aesthetic to myself. I will experiment in trying some of your roofs out!
Sorry but for the advance roof that angles once each time can you show how to do the triangle support beams before doing the roof. I'm not able to work out how to get the centre or sizing
Stairs are the best building pieces in game (they are OP), would love to see a video by Friendly on the different uses of stairs/ladders. from defense & traps to functional stair steps and of course decorative applications.
All of the roof pieces have footprint of 2x2 meters. That's the same as a big wooden floor piece or the stone floor piece. Long wooden beams and short core wooden beams have 2m as well.
So I just started building, and no matter what I do the roof collapses. I have an 18m X 16m building, using 26 degree roof pieces I'm left with a 6m X 4m hole on top, and everything I try to place just collapses. I can't do a regular roof nor the ventilated ones like in this video. I've been at it for hours and it's making me want to quit the game honestly lol. Anyone know how to make it work?
You need to either make the building smaller or work with pieces that can build higher. Core wood can build higher that wood, stone and wood together can build higher than wod, then you have iron which will allow you to build the tallest. You should watch my short video on how to build high in Valheim. It will be very helpful for you. Otherwise my Discord has plenty of people that can help you get started in the game if you are new and looking for a community. Link in my banner. Hope this helps!
@@9byte Thanks for the tips! I think I may need support poles inside the building near the middle to support the roof, but I really didn't want them in the way on the inside. I'll play around with some core wood and iron beams and see what works. Thanks again.
@@9byte Also, what about dark wood, is it any stronger than regular wood or core wood and iron are still the strongest? I only recently got strong enough to traverse the plains safely so don't have much tar yet.
No problem. You wont need pillars in the middle of your house if you dont want them there. You just need to figure out how much more length you need and then choose core wood if its a little, stone if its more or iron if its alot. Sounds like you could do it with just core wood if youre clever though. Dark wood is the same as wood except when you use it on stone then its slightly different... I dont remember the exact numbers though youll have to check the vid if you want to know that. @@KenshinPhoenix
@@9byte Ah ok thanks. I have some dark wood pillars on the outside because it's pretty, may have to switch them out to core wood. What a bummer! Thanks again.
If you are working on an asymmetrical circle with one side across from each other are wider or thinner then you can square off the roof. Mastering roofs and smoke vents isn’t the easiest and can sometimes be frustrating but the more you fail the more you learn don’t be afraid to try new ideas.
Its worth noting that odd numbered roof tiles can join at a peak or with regular pieces as well depending on whether or not you use the 1m away from the wall that you showed in the previous vid
Dude you missed the easiest method for fixing roof gaps- use a ❌ beam to create a snapping point halfway down a roof piece and build of that, this will fill in 99% of gaps most people will come across. Other than that good vid i hate square tops on circle roofs though, and with enough practice and sometimes some manual placements you can get circular points on most builds

For the roof on the basic double turn structures are you putting 45° roofs with 26° on top of those?
