  • Not click-bait! In this video, I say good-bye to our year-and-a-half ownership of Mach N Cheese and wrap up by going through what we liked -- and didn't like -- about the ownership experience.
    Stay tuned to the channel, as our next video will be an introduction into our next car!

    A well done video Andy. It does a good job of explaining your rationale without pressing the “whining” button. I have an early build premium (January 24, 2021 build week) and our experiences could not be more different. Mine is literally the best car I’ve ever owned, and that disparity just shouldn’t be.
    Good luck with the new vehicle, I’ll stay subscribed as more information is good. In the meantime, a wee bit of Mac n Cheese lives on, in a roundabout manner, in Otto.

      My reliability issues might be related to the production year. But the 2022 GT is still slow and handles poorly, and is as slow as molasses to charge. Looks cool though. Just sayin.

      There is a reason why they offer the Magnaride on the Performance. I think that the ought to offer it on GT and the Premium as well.
      99% of my charging is done at home on my PowerPoin+ Flex charger, so fast DC charging is not an issue. On the times when I have been in the road and used DC, I was there for 30 minutes to get to 90%. Plenty of time to take a leak, stretch my legs with a snack.

    Sorry to see the Mach-E go! It’s been fun to follow your adventures with it. I can definitely understand why you’re ready to part with it. Unreliability that leaves you stranded is just not something anyone should put up with, especially in a brand new car. I’m in my early build ‘21 GT and am waiting for the HVBJB to blow out. No fun!

    Nice honest review, I'm sorry to hear you had those issues. I'm on my second one, I had a 2021 and now a 2023 and haven't experienced those issues personally. Other than the common issues people have with the PaaK system (but I also blame Apple a little bit on that one because of the way they sandbox applications) I haven't had any issues. • @PianoBoy99
    @PianoBoy99 Рік тому +1

    Sorry to see you go. I followed you on the forums and always thought your posts were thoughtful. I have a GTPE built before June of last year and haven't had any problems other than the HVBJB issue. Which failed the way ford wanted it to, I brought it to the dealer, no problem. I did have a supply chain issue, but they provided a loaner car, and eventually I got it back..
    I agree that the GTPE in particular was not well tested from a design point of view. I suspect there is an executive at ford that was told this would happen and he said "launch it anyway, we'll fix it in service claims" I hope he lost his job.
    That said, I've had none of the other problems you talk about, and the performance has always been good. The suspension is stiff, but it is supposed to give a performance ride to it, so it sounds like you really want something like a high performance lexus, rather than something like a mustang. I am sure that if I drove it well over the speed limit with lots of acceleration, I would hit the thermal limits, but I find that I rarely need to drive it like that, and I still have plenty of performance.
    I think this is a good example of mismatched expectations. My suggestion would be to buy a Model Y performance. I realize that you don't like the styling, but it checks the boxes in every other way, and it seems the tech package is more important to you than the styling.
    good luck and we hope to see you around!

    • @jamesdaniel947

      The Model Y Performance rides like a buckboard compared to the GT Performance with Magnaride. Neither Tesla or Kia offer anything that even comes close.
      Plus, when you sit in a Tesla after being in a Mach e GT PE, it is like you are sitting in a white room with no furniture.

    My hatch was working improperly and the dealer programmed it now it's opening up all the way. By the way, the hatch has an adjustability function so you can adjust it to not open all the way and hit your door. Just saying.

    • @ev_kimchi
      @ev_kimchi  5 місяців тому

      The hatch problems with the Mach-E have nothing to do with the height adjustment (every modern car with a power hatch has that adjustment feature). They have to do with the Mach-E's quality being so bad that the electronics for the hatch suffer water damage and cause it to open by itself. Go look at the Mach-E forum to see how many people had severe hatch damage that Ford wouldn't cover. So glad that problem child car is out of my life.

    sorry to hear Ford didn't replace your junction box. Here in Germany they do that actually replace it, also seem to be covered by the 8 year warranty of the battery system

    • @ev_kimchi
      @ev_kimchi  Рік тому +1

      To be clear, Ford *does* replace junction boxes when their software detects that it is damaged, or when the HVBJB completely fails. When damage is detected, you are limited to 30% of normal power, and you have an unknown amount of time before the junction box fails completely. Also, the detection software is not perfect, and many owners still have their junction box fail without warning. Most of the old design junction boxes will fail at some point, yet Ford will not replace them proactively at a time and date of the customer's choosing. Ford does this to save money, at the tradeoff of making your car more unreliable and a headache, and potentially even worse, a safety issue if you are stranded or lose locomotive power.

    Who buys the MEGTPE for the range?

  • @rusticroads
    @rusticroads Рік тому +2

    I think your experience is indicative of why I never buy the first generation of any new vehicle. One would hope that many of the mechanical issues you've encountered are a result of it being the first of its kind, and that Ford has figured out most of those issues. That's not to say that you don't have a right to hold Ford responsible for how they rewarded your willingness to be their early adopter, because they absolutely should (even though no car company does). The F-150 Lightning certainly seems like a better product out of the gate, and that's likely due to their experiences with the Mach-E.
    I'm waiting for an improvement redesign of the Mach-E to take care of everything they've learned. It seems as though they've licked the problem with the HJVB, but the Premium needs a better suspension and anything with the GT/GT-PE badge needs to do away with performance limitations. The GT-PE needs to be consolidated into the GT, get rid of the 5-second acceleration limit, and allow that car to be driven in a "spirited" fashion that doesn't cause problems. A heat pump would be nice, as would a trailer hitch for a bike rack like European customers already enjoy.
    Unless I've missed news about Kia making a deal with Tesla for Supercharging, I'm surprised that you would go with a car that is fast becoming an island of connectivity. Long-term prospects for CCS-only fast charging are not good, but if you don't need fast charging, perhaps that's not a factor for you. Good luck and enjoy your new car!

    • @ev_kimchi
      @ev_kimchi  Рік тому +1

      Hyundai Motor Group has said they're in discussions -- the questions likely revolve around the technical solutions to enable the 800v architecture. I suspect the v4 Superchargers will be required. Due to the unique ways the eGMP platform implements its charging, current Tesla Superchargers have bad performance with eGMP cars.
      I do not roadtrip a lot. I think adoption of NACS and its practical meaning to me over the 3-year lease is not very significant to the purposes of this car in my lifestyle. I just need EA to improve its reliability, and competition next year from Tesla Superchargers will probably help in that regard.

    You aptly named your channel...would you like some "cheese" with your whine. It is Velveeta! I have the same exact car and I don't understand many of this guy's complaints. He complains about the handling of the regular GT when he had the Performance with the Magnaride, which even Kyle agrees handles entirely better.
    I am no snowflake as I road raced motorcycles on racetracks for 12 years, not on the street. I didn't pay $72,000 for my luxury performance car to rag it out at the track! Racing on the public thoroughfares is insane...too many things to run into and people trying to actually travel to injure or kill with your immature and irresponsible play. There are a lot more considerations than not having your family in the car when your driving that irresponsibly on the street.
    I have never overheated my car with my limited spirited driving which I keep to short burst of under 100 mph. I love blowing away ICE jockies in their so called 2 wheel drive muscle cars. But when I want to go balls to the wall, I do track days on my race motorcycles. I mean, how much faster do you really need to go on the street than a 12 second quarter and 3.5 second 0-60 in your Mach e GT Performance?
    There is a reason why the police impound your car if they catch you driving like a crazy kid. This car was made to drive sensibly on public roads, not a race track.
    As for the contactor issue on the older cars, apparently Ford has re-engineered this issue on the newer models. It is not like Ford can't design adequate high performance electrics for these vehicles, as its 4000 hp version demonstrates. Apparently, FORD underestimated how some idiots would be driving this thing on the road, and have now compensated for them.
    But I hear the South Korean KIA EV is a nice car, so enjoy it. I plan on keeping my American car for a long time.

So your only defense is "stay off my lawn, drive slower" and make a point to call out the country it's made in? I give every auto make a chance if they make something worthwhile, I grew up in a Ford family and have owned a number of them, but now all they are is pickups and Mustangs, real or fake crossover ones. They have turned out to be pretty pathetic now actually, but I just KNEW "that xenophobic guy" would be butt hurt, lol
