    Making a Mold then Wet Molding a Leather Bag
    We wanted to challenge ourselves with a wet molded leather project, so we made our biggest wet mold piece to date! We made a nice leather mold with hard wood and simple hand tools, then we molded 8-10oz natural vegetable tanned leather to that mold and let it dry overnight. After the molded leather had dried we hand cut and sewed it together with a saddle stitch, making a beautiful leather shoulder bag!
    What sort of strap should we make for it?

    Love your style! Not just great leatherwork, but outstanding videography. Best of all, no inane commentary, no annoying background noise (aka music), and you never point the camera at your face. I wish all of UA-cam could learn those lessons.

    I’m just loving these quiet, masterful videos! You’ve managed to offer something fresh to UA-cam and that’s not easy. I also appreciate the production value in each of your videos that I’ve watched today. Without music, graphics or VO, you’re giving us beautifully produced work. I’m deeply impressed...and I’m a producer, so that ain’t easy to do. Kudos!!

    I like your custom wet leather, wooden mold. I think you could make an extra wooden frame for the outside, that is used to press and stretch the excess leather flat. Holding it in place, while the leather dried over night. It could br held in place with simple spring clamps, or some more elaborate system.

    I wholeheartedly agree about the quality of your work and the quality of your videos. I have a couple of questions about the leather that you are using to make the bag. Firstly, is leather that you used “protected” against stains or rain? When I have used a similar hide, it makes so easily. Secondly, if I want to wet mould a treated leather such as English Bridle, would I have to adjust your method? I can see that I might have to leave it longer to get wet and get dry.

    Hi there, your work is so beautiful!
    Does it work with any core height? How high is it your mold?
    I ask because I have tried 2 times so far and I couldn't reach the bottom without wrinkles, my height was 4 cm and leather thickness 2.5mm. :(
    If you have some extra tip , please let me know.
    Thank you for your time! Have a nice day!

    Can i join to wet molded leather to make a boxy look? I mean i thought about the conventional way of making a squared bag.. but im curious if i can wet mold two sides and join them to for the two halves of the bag?

    • @glpzdmd9259
      @glpzdmd9259 3 роки тому

      I'm just planning to make a phone holder that fits a squarish phone (samsung z flip).. but i wonder if i can make two halves of wet molded leather as one mini bag.. a mini crossbody perhaps

    • @glpzdmd9259
      @glpzdmd9259 3 роки тому

      That means there'll be no stitches all around but planning to join them with magnets when closed.. or button rivets (not sure of the material) and then use screw rivets to include d-ring for the sling

    • @glpzdmd9259
      @glpzdmd9259 3 роки тому

      But ofcourse maybe i have to add few centimeters to make the edges and should probably stitch for better look? Haha sorry my first time and i had a lot of idea. Your crafts inspired me
