Man I seriously love your videos. I’ve been wanting to get into leather craft for quite a while now but honestly I absolutely can’t afford it. Thanks for all the amazing content! Hopefully in the next couple years I’ll be able to show you what I make from watching your videos!
Can't wait to see what you make - and remember, you don't need super fancy tools! I started Corter with $37 worth of tools and a single panel of leather from my dorm room, hopefully you can start crafting soon :)
@@Corter I hope so too! I’ve been scoping out cheep tools but I know I shouldn’t be spending money I don’t have right now. We’re just scraping by but God sustains! I’ll be sure to send you pics. Thanks :)
If you have an extra like $15 and a Dollar Tree and some thrift stores nearby, you can get some inexpensive cutting tools and glues and whatnot at the Tree, and find some leather pieces, coats or handbags, at low prices from the thrifts. Depending on what you want to make it could get you started. Sell some stuff and build up your bank until you can get to where you want to be.
Here's how I got started, and it seemed to work well. It's a $40 plan to get $100 worth of product on your first go. I started by just making journals, with only these things: paper, thick thread, and sheep leather. Sheep leather is the key there, it's far cheaper, and far more flexible, like cloth. You can stitch it to the front page and back page for a bit more stability. The only tools I needed were scissors, (which work fine to cut the paper and sheep leather) a nail, (to punch the few holes) and a needle, for obvious reasons. Usually sheep leather only comes in full hides, but it costs about the same as a panel of nice cowhide, and you get far more out of it. So the cost of all of this: Leather: $20 Thread: $6 - $7 (this gets you some color variety too) Paper: anywhere from $7 to $15 depending on what you want Needles: $1.50 - $5 Scissors (if you don't have any already): $4 - $10 Ruler (if you don't have one already): $2 - $7 and you can just use any pointy strong-ish thing for the poking part. Maybe even a toothpick! You can get about six 5x8 inch journals out of this. There are REALLY easy to follow tutorials on this platform, and the journals themselves are really simple to make. If you sell each one to friends and family for $20, you could make $120, but you might mess up on at least one, so realistically you'd only get $100. That's still a $60 profit, which you could use to expand your hobby. I highly encourage exploring leather, it's been so much fun for me!
@@Corter Hi there, I didn't want to make this it's own comment, because I remember you saying something about why you never show your face, so I wanted as little people to see this as possible, to leave that disclosure decision up to you. But just so that you know, at 31:08 you can make out your face pretty clearly in the closure reflection. From what I can tell, you have a nice face!
This was awesome. and I love the way you are embracing the Matrix and Back to the Future in your videos. Nothing better than future you jumping in to add color commentary. This was a great project and I loved being able to see a different way to use these molds to design and fashion a while different kind of product!!!
Really nice build! One thing if you were going to make several of these is to get a 3D Printed version of the die mold top piece with a slit put into it for a cut line to make it the same every time. I am working on a die for a wet molded shaving bag right now.
As always easy to follow and excellent work 👍. I have recently got into making bags and this just inspires me to expand my knowledge and learn more and more 👌 thanks guys

Start with something simple like a coin holder and then work your way up to a cell phone holder and then on to small bags. I like wet molding, it's a blast to do and not that hard. I make my own molds as I'm a woodworker too.
15:30 "So I'm gonna measure stitch line to stitch line, so that's eleven mil..." Eric.... Those are centimeters, dear Love the video and project as always!
When I do my edges black, well most of my edges are black, I use a Sharpy marker that is about the size he is using. Is that leather dye? I have no idea but it works. Btw, this is a nice bag.
Couple of things please. what , where are your stitching chisels, I have had no luck finding a decent set. What knife are you using? Is it a Xacto? This is first time I have heard of that sticky back stuff you are using. Already ordered the empty paint markers from buckleguy, I watched you use them on another video. Now to find those molds. I do not have a cnc or any clue how to use one. My home made molds leave much to be desired. I love your tutorials, they actually teach and not leave students befuddled.
Yea I was thinking about that! It'd be really cool, 100% the next step. Just thought of it mid-project and didn't have time to make up a mold for it, next one for sure!
@@Corter That will be cool to see how you make a mold for that or are you thinking of wetting the flap and molding it too the lower? Other Idea would be to make each pocket cover and then join them together, I think that the stitching might make that even look very cool.
What a beautiful bag!! I have experience with wet molds on veg tan leather but do you wet the Wickett & Craig deer print leather that you used? I always thought only veg tan leather could wet molded. Thanks!
I love your videos haven’t seen a bad one yet After watching this and the tray video I had to buy some of the molds When you glued the back was there a reason to not split the paper so you concentrate on lining up one side at a time?
This is a great idea for the wet molds. What thickness leather are you using? I was thinking two layers of 4 to 5oz would be a little thick. Sorry if this has already been asked\answered.
2:33 очень интересный момент, демонстрирующий мастерство рукодельника)) да? а петельки для ремешка которые через некоторое время использования сумки "прогрызут" место трения с кожей (тем более если кожа растишка) - тут вообще без комментариев
Just a thought if you made the mould a little over twice the size when you cut it in half you'd have two bag pieces a little over size and little to no waste
I wonder if parchment paper might make an easier glue preventative? Might be worth a shot. Not much sticks to it, I use my stapler to make bags to cook in🤣
I am super interested in shopping with buckleguy. But there is just so much that is out of stock right now…. Like the multipack for ritza tiger thread. I check every day and it seems like its been out of stock for months..
Thanks! And probably not - thread isn't stretchy, so you'd either rip the leather or the thread trying to wet mold it probably. Glue only I'm not sure about but the leather does stretch so if it did work, you'd probably get some weird stretch lines and stuff as the inner liner stretches on a tighter radius than the outer piece around the curves
Can you please suggest to Buckleguy to carry the Nylon adhesive backed stiffener/strengthener? Without knowing the exact spelling of the brand name, it is impossible to find searching on the internet. Thank you .
Working on making a nice version of it with Buckleguy ourselves! It'll be a. bit different, we want to make a few changes to make it perfect for leatherwork :)

We buy leather by thickness in millimeter's. It seems deliberately arcane to measure it in ounces? Or is there a good reason?

What if you cut the openings before molding them?
With a different closure, belt loops or guide on the back, and a few gears and cogs this would make a nice steampunk belt bag.
