    Making a Leather Clutch By Hand
    This week we made a nice big leather clutch by hand. this leather clutch design is a project we're working to perfect, so this piece is hand made as a sample - it is close to being perfect, but it's not quite there yet!
    For this project we used Weaver's new Pines Milled leather, and we really like it! It's soft enough to use for upholstery, but has a firm enough temper to make a beautiful bag or wallet.
    You can get 10% off your order at our sponsor Weaver Leathercraft with code "DOGDAYS" from August 9-16th, 2019 :)

    I love the simplicity of this. Two open pockets and a zippered one. Maybe a couple card slots.... but really that’s just nitpicking. I think it’s awesome. AND I think you guys are are awesome... so there! 🤪

    Handmade items like this, with all the folds and layers, can end up looking crude, but this looks great! My only suggestion would be to make it large enough to hold a cell phone in the zipper pocket, and maybe a wrist strap.

    I must be a budding designer because I like the design but I was thinking of ways to make it better. I wouldn't use a snap closure. I would put credit card slots on the interior where the snaps were and do some kind of chunky equestrian bridle jewelry looking enclosure on the outside.

  • @MobyBrickFlicks
    @MobyBrickFlicks 5 років тому +1

    Did you mod your weaver edge beveler? I have a size 0 also but i find it hard to bevel thinner leather. Looks like you are using a 3oz or so? The beveler always hits the table so i was wondering if its worth grinding the tool down a bit

    • @Corter
      @Corter  5 років тому +2

      Nope! Just keep it super sharp with their strop board, then you'll see us edge thin stuff on the edge of the cutting board - that helps to get the piece high enough to edge without modding the tool :)

  • @randypoplaski7689
    @randypoplaski7689 4 роки тому

    Question: I've watched several of your videos now. I enjoy all of them. I was wondering what determines whether or not you use the silver metal cutting knife to 'scratch off' the edges of a piece of leather before gluing it to another piece of leather?I don't think you did that in this particular video, just straight piece to piece gluing. But in other videos, you scratch off the outside edges or sheer them off with that wide bladed 'chisel-looking' tool before gluing them together. What determines when you scratch/chisel? Thanks!

    • @Corter
      @Corter  4 роки тому +2

      if the leather we're using is dyed and oiled, we'll rough up the gluing surface. If it's not (like in this video) we won't, as the natural veg tan is totally untreated so the glue sticks just fine :)

    • @robwallis1277
      @robwallis1277 5 років тому +2

      The glue is a structural bond that adds to the strength, the tape is more temporary, and won't bleed through the zip.
