David Gilmour was 70 when he played this guitar solo. Absolutely incredible.😃
The way Eddie Van Halen put it into words is best way I've heard David Gilmour explained. EVH describing what makes David Gilmore the master guitarist, he says:
"David Gilmour is the benchmark of less being more. He has proved that shredding and fast playing is not the benchmark of mastery level. Gilmour never wastes a note; he builds his solos like a painter; every note, every bend, every tonal inflection has merit...David's solos paint a picture in the minds of his listeners. Something that really is a testament of his talent as a guitar player"
I’ve been a fan of Pink Floyd since 1971, age 15.
That is my All time Favourite performance of ‘Comfortably Numb’. David Gilmour, the master, at 70 years of age.
I saw this Show at a one night only showing at Cinemas, in 2017, the year after it was recorded.
Incredible. 🎶🎸❤️🎸🎶
A couple of cool facts that guitar strap (with the X X X X X X X X pattern was a gift from the widow of Jimi Hendrix. Also, that guitar was sold at auction to the owner of the Indianapolis Colts for 3.9 million dollars.
This concert is amazing. David Gilmour was 70 years old in 2016. I was fortunate enough to see him on this tour and it was so awesome to hear such a legendary musician. David Gilmour was the guitarist and lead singer in Pink Floyd, beginning in 1968. He's had some solo albums, as well. He is known as one of the best guitar players in rock music, with a very distinct, blues-based and melodic style. If you want to check out some Pink Floyd, I recommend the Pulse concert from 1994 and specifically the song 'Sorrow.' It's got another great Gilmour guitar solo!
David Gilmour is the lead guitar/vocalist. A 70yr old man educating guitar players around the world. Making an amphitheater full of people less than half his age sing a 40+ yr old song with him.
Now this is a great Friday afternoon vibe I needed today!!! Pink Floyd was a huge part of my teenage years. This was gorgeous!! You're the best QoFy! Thanks and shout-out to Grey!!!
And the great thing is that you could hear a thousand different live versions of this song (or any other David Gilmour/Pink Floyd song), and you'll never hear the same outro solo twice. I love this version, having seen Gilmour twice on the tour for Rattle That Lock, in 2015 and 2016, but I think the version from Pink Floyd's "Pulse" concert in 1994 is widely regarded as not just the best version of the song, but possibly the greatest live guitar performance ever. But if you want to see what sounds he really can get out of a guitar, "Sorrow" from the 1994 Pulse concert will definitely do the trick.
Personally I like this solo better than Pulse. The Pulse solo is legendary, the disco ball turning into the lotus flower. But it’s a much a cleaner sound. There is something about the tone of this solo, it’s heavier, dirtier. Not as clean but it’s speaks to me more now, as I’ve also gotten older. The tribulations of life. This has become my “go to” version of this song. But you’re right, every time he has performed this there are little differences, nuances. No two are the same. Such an amazing man and musician. One of a kind.
well you just heard my favourite guitar player and one of the best songwriters in music history ^^
david gilmor
normally i listen more to more modern rock/metal nd lots of hip hop stuff but some of his solo work and of course from his band pink floyd is simply amazing
The keyboardist that singing the other half of Comfortably Numb is "Chuck Leavell" who has played with the Rolling Stones and Allman Brothers. David Gilmour the lead guitarist here has always been the lead singer of Pink Floyd since 1968 because of his better ethereal voice which is fitting for most of their music! David Gilmour is basically the one of the top five guitarists ever to set foot on this planet!! Rodger Waters bass player and Main lyricist sings about 40% of their music and did so from 1965 to 1984 when he quit the band! Rick Wright who also sings a lot was the original keyboardist for Pink Floyd however passed away in 2008. If you want to see Pink Floyd in their original lineup post Syd Barrett do the song "Echoes" Pink Floyd live at Pompeii 1972. It's a quite amazing 14 minutes!!
One more note if you want to see this done even better check out the 94 Pulse concert Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb!! Yes David Gilmour knocks it completely out of the park and it's even better then this version if you can believe it!!! The shows Pink Floyd puts on when they're in concert is stunning to say the least!!!!
Pink Floyd is Legendary, their music takes you on a journey, a cerebral journey. There is no other Rock Band in history that sounds like Pink Floyd! Although this IS a Pink Floyd song, written in 1979, David Gilmour is the only member of Pink Floyd on this stage.
The actual Pink Floyd band had stopped performing and touring by the end of 2006. The band Pink Floyd was formed in London in 1964. Pink Floyd is the name of the band, not a person.
They were heavily influenced but American Blues, and they got their name from two old time Blues players from the 1920s and 30s.
They were,.. PINK Anderson and FLOYD Council.
The gentleman on the guitar 🎸 is David Gilmor
A guitar 🎸 solo with a song 🎧 in it
Great review man, I enjoyed that. David is one of the best guitarists of all time. Good props to the great backup harmonies
One of the top 5 bands EVER!!!
I saw them back in 1977. Great concert.
Have loved Pink Floyd since the 70's. Saw them twice in 87, and 94. Thanks Grey and Qofy, so many memories.
David Gilmour is the Singer and Guitarist
The Pompeii concert is great but oh you should check out the Pulse concert for Comfortably Numb
He never plays the solo the same way. Always the same but always different.
Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour's fine guitar 'The Black Strat' is now the world's most expensive guitar sold at auction, after it went under the hammer for $3.9 million.
british god.
You need to research Pink Floyd. David Gilmore can make a guitar cry like no one I've ever heard. This song is just one in an entire album meant to be listened to at once. I always listen to the album twice in a row and I come out at the end feeling amazing. Probably because I've gone to the depths of hell and risen back up again. You just need to experience it yourself.
The drummer's look says it all:"My god I'm playing Pink Floyd, still can't believe it!"
I am NOT into guitar solos, as such. As a classical cellist, I'm always playing with others, feeling when to be important, when to accompany. When I listen to bands I'm each member at the same time, and if I'm bored being the bass player for example, I struggle to like the music.
That being said, I can listen to 64 measures of gilmour playing the same note over and over and over in this song no problem, such tone, such wail, such feeling, such a journey up to the solos, and such epic iconicness of all the live versions of this song, importance in music history etc etc.
In contrast, Joe Satriani bores the hell out of me and even Zappa can wear my patience in some of his solos.
David Gilmour is from the band Pink Floyd. This is a Pink Floyd song. Pink Floyd is no more, but the two key members Gilmour here & Roger Waters still create and perform, and its still amazing; as you saw! Waters left the band many years before they ended.
For more Floydage: Try "Another Brick In The Wall", by Pink Floyd Live PULSE 1994...
Pink Floyd - Time :) studio version btw
Dave is the guitar player.
There are a lot of great guitar players but no one touches my soul the way that David Gilmour does. You should definitely check out Pink Floyd "High Hopes" Live Pulse ua-cam.com/video/pDKPz6KD8fs/v-deo.html and Pink Floyd "Echoes" Live from Pompeii ua-cam.com/video/y-E7_VHLvkE/v-deo.html
🎶😊🎵
do the same song pink floyd, live pulse 1994
My understanding: original Pink Floyd: Roger Waters lead vocals, Gilmour lead guitar. When Waters left, Gilmour became both and I actually prefer his singing
Syd Barrett was lead vocals until his departure,'68. Then it became co-lead singers; both Gilmour and Waters sang lead until Waters departure '85. Then Gilmour has been lead until Pink Floyd ended.
@@glennbrock6560 thanks for the correction. I do know the name Syd Barrett, but was never a big fan of the early stuff so don't have knowledge there I guess. Momentary Lapse of Reason was my favourite.
@@miff227 You are welcome. I appreciate that you handled that like an actual civilized person. It's very rare in these parts.
@@glennbrock6560 I'm certainly not always like that lol. But it's interesting how different we can be in different fields of discussion. You've got me wondering if there's correlation between how I react and either how much I know, or know I don't know, or don't know I know.
So, I know more than nothing about music (classical cellist) and I've loved some Pink Floyd albums for 35 years etc, but I also know I've never looked into their history or binged all the songs or been a super fan...
So I'm wondering, does my other knowledge in the field lend itself to being humbler and relaxed about not knowing stuff with a facet. In other fields where I know next to nothing, would I "defend" the small piece of knowledge i thought was true harder?
Interesting, will self-reflect on that.
@@miff227 Always thought the older I got the fewer questions I'd have. I ask myself this everyday about everything . "So I'm wondering, does my other knowledge in the field lend itself to being humbler and relaxed about not knowing stuff with a facet. In other fields where I know next to nothing, would I "defend" the small piece of knowledge i thought was true harder? "
It's the proper way to be. All we ever knew is a lie. We all have to find our truth.
🇧🇷💕🙏🏻
Fun fact: I have a pink Floyd tattoo.
I guess "show me pink" can get confusing
this guy talks too much
And yet you still watched and commented. Thank you
