Totally, David is a good singer but he really excels when he uses his guitar to convey deep emotions, he makes his guitar sing the notes he could never reach vocally.
By technical most people mean a lot of notes very fast. That isn't his style although he could if it were. In truth, his guitar playing is more technical than you know. The ability to manipulate the guitar in such a way as to make it a voice that communicates multiple emotions is the MOST technical of all. He's the master of it!
Pink Floyd are the only group who are made for lying down on your bed in the dark, with headphones on and just float away into the distance! No one else comes close.
I had the chance to see this show two nights in a row during their visit to the Olympic Stadium in Montreal on May 23 and 24, 1994. As I knew about the existence of the mirror ball, on the 2nd evening, I focused my gaze towards the stage lighting. All these lights which slowly followed the rhythm of the music, as if they were alive, as if they were drawing their energy through the strings of David's guitar.
As a 60+ year old guy who got to see all the great bands live back in the day...including Pink Floyd...and having watched dozens of internet folks react to this performance...I can only say this. Best. Reaction. Ever.
Jim White: Black Americans (U.S.) put themselves on reaction display with the Advent of UA-cam videos for stipends, which was the start of appreciating "the other sides" culture; unheard of in the era of yore, amid the "real" cultural pigmented. In those days, peer-pressure ostracism would be shunning their tails.
The shear fact that someone can convey that much emotion with a guitar and bring people to tears is nothing short of incredible!! Gilmour is the GOAT! 🙌
David Gilmour and Pink Floyd lads never joke on stage. They take you with them. And my man David he's never soloing ... he's praying. That fender stratocaster guitar damn! The performance is epic. Psychedelic experience. ❤
“The child is grown, The dream is gone” The line above, right before one of the greatest solos EVER, explains Comfortable Numb.... “Can anybody hear me” is the inner child dying & screaming out alone in an adult body & adult mind, nobody adult can hearing the pain.... As a child, you never give up on anything that means something important to you, an adult tells you to stop but you do not listen as if the adult is speaking a language you do not understand, the language being “give up”, nonstop waves of “give up”.... You become an adult, now you are just part of the brain washed adult heard, “adults only do this, adults only do that, that is childish”, you follow with no push back nor questions asked, you’re just “okay, will do, no problem”, now you’re Comfortable Numb.... “Feel a little pin prick” & every lyric after is showing that adults need something injected or taking for energy & “life”, as a child you wake up energize naturally”, no drug required to “live”....
It thrills me to see younger generation starting to realize the impact of popular 70’s bands. Especially Pink Floyd. I feel so blessed to have grown up when Pink Floyd was in infancy.
Do this for yourself , Turn out the lights ( except maybe a lava lamp ) Headphones on , lay on your back , put one album on and trip on the journey of it , each song in order , that’s the pink experience
I was there for 2 of the London gigs and they destroyed me both times. I remember coming out of the first gig being absolutely stunned and emotionally shattered. I thought I was prepared for the second show but the sheer power of the music floored me again. There's never been, and never will be, anyone to touch them. They truly existed on a different plane of reality and sometimes, if you were lucky, they allowed you to fly with them. Do I worship them? Hell yes! It's not too hyperbolic to say that their music has shaped my life. David just rips my soul out every time he plays. He destroys me and I love him for it.
I'm jealous! I've seen Roger Waters twice and the second time we were near the front. I was completely lost in the music during Comfortably Numb and my girlfriend nudged me and pointed at Roger. He was staring straight at me and smiling ☺
I was there for 2 nights also, the first time they did greatest hits only, the 2nd time the did Dark Side Of The Moon in it's entirety!!! They were absolutely epic, i will never ever forget it.
i was also there, the night that the gallery nearly collapsed. All added to the impending uniqueness. do you remember getting on the tube at Earls Court, and the look on everyones faces? mine included. A mass spiritual, almost religious experience had just taken place. sadly, could only get tickets for that one night, but oh,what a night. nothing comes close either before or since.
The look on your face was exactly what I get when I saw them at the Pontiac Silverdome in 1994. 27 years later, I still replay the magic whenever I see their Pulse videos
You can never know the feeling of all those small dots of light floating around unless you were there. Despite the huge disco ball and all the spotlights, it felt like you were in space, literally. I will never forget this night as long as I live. The best gig I ever saw, my favourite track and possibly, the best guitar solo of all time.
I agree! We were row 40 on the floor center. When that ball lit up the stadium looked amazing. Then the ball opened...The visual impact was incredible but paled to the eargasm that was happening. I will never forget it. I was able to take my kids to see David Gilmore when he came through town. They were 18 and 20. They were able to sing along with every song because they grew up listening to Pink Floyd. After the show I just looked at them and said "I TOLD you!. you will never forget this night. NOW you have seen the best!" They just smiled and said "Yeah" I will never forget the night my kids truly experienced the music!
I've watched Pulse numerous times on DVD. I can't imagine what it would be like being there. Just great talent. David Gilmour is like a God playing guitar!!
Me too, I went twice, the first night when we heard one chord of shine on you crazy diamond, then tubular bells as the seating at the back collapsed, then again at the end of the week when they had to reschedule the night. Amazing concert, probably my favorite ever.
I've heard this song probably a million times and I don't consider myself as the most emotional person in the universe, but I get tears in my eyes every time I hear it. So freaking beautiful!
Did you feel it? The deep soul of this music? That was the 70`s. Music had meaning back then. Bands were not trying to copy each other. They were unique. They played what they felt and it was special. They poured their feelings out in music. Now, it is look how hot I am or look how fast I can play. Music has lost its meaning. We need to get back to real soul and real ideas. Zepplin and Pink Floyd were the go to bands back then for good real soul music besides the motown sound. We do not have that today. We have copy the others to get attention. That is a dead end for music. I f you liked this, check out Frank Marino and MAHOGANY RUSH. They had real soul to their music. Frank was the lead singer and the lead guitar player just like David Gilmore was in this show. You have no idea how good music was unless you go back and see. I lived through that and am grateful for being able to live that time. You have no idea what you have missed out on. Go back in time and check out the 70`s. It was magical!
I mean, every hair on my body is standing straight up, watching you react to this. Is that guitar singing or crying. Both. Makes me want to cry. Wonderful reaction. Your are real about it. Great emotion, I can tell you are sincere. I am so smitten. You got me . sign me up. Nothing but love. Peace. and BE WELL.
Gilmour is the greatest of his genre no one gets close he is in the top 5 guitarist of all time, and btw I adore this song always makes me cry thanks for sharing and thanks for making me cry like a baby 👍😥
There are no words needed in relation to this performance. Sit back relax with a large glass of expensive single malt whisky and take in the best guitar solo ever.
PINK FLOYD is the one. EVERYONE else is playing for 'second best'. I was at the Sports Arena in Los Angeles during February of 1980 when the original members of the band PINK FLOYD, without Syd Barrett - performed their new album (At the time.) 'The Wall' in concert. I remember seeing and experiencing PINK FLOYD in person - FOUR DECADES ago! I was into PINK FLOYD ten years before that, when I was in High School and listening to their album 'Meddle' - which came out before their classic; 'Dark Side of the Moon'. I'm happy you found PINK FLOYD. If you get a chance, spend the money and go - see David Gilmour or Roger Waters playing in concert - before they are gone forever...
“High Hopes “ live. Possibly the most emotionally moving singing by David Gilmore Also he plays the steel guitar in a way the it becomes a part of your soul. A must!
I've heard David Gilmore's brilliance described as the notes he DOESN'T play. He is hands down the best I've ever heard and seen at eliciting such pure emotion from his playing. Pink Floyd concerts are not just seen, they are experienced!
Young lady they are amazing indeed. Videos can only capture so much of what is going on. I have seen them live 3 times back in the 80’s. I always loved their music but nothing could prepare me for their concerts. Mind blowing.
You just cant be numb to the emotional rollercoaster of this performance and song. It makes me feel sorrow and pain that so much so that when it's over I appreciate having felt it only because it's a reminder I'm still alive to feel the emotion.
I love your reaction to this PF classic. One of the best live songs ever recorded....the combination of the music and lights are simply spectacular. I know that you got lost in the music and closed your eyes but I kept saying to myself open your eyes to see the incredible light show...
The song is called "Comfortably Numb" . . . BUT what it does to you is the exact opposite. . It *FLOODS YOU WITH RAW EMOTION* . . Not 'numb' at all, but instead *TINGLING* with joy and feeling
Love your reactions to Pink Floyd. Please consider a reaction to their song, "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" or any track from the "Wish You Were Here" album.
The greatest live solo in the history of rock music and I was in the audience. We didn't fool around with cellphones (there weren't any!), we just watched an absolutely awesome gig; I'll never forget. A privilege.
Empress JJ... I can't tell you how wonderful it was to see someone from the other side of the earth feeling the same emotions for this song (this band) as I do. In a world that seems to be ever-dividing, it gives me hope in a time where many feel hopeless. You are a beautiful woman & a beautiful soul. Thank you for sharing that beauty with others. Lastly... if you want to experience these emotions again, please view their performance of "High Hopes" from the same concert (Pulse). I hope to be able to see your reaction to it. Much love from Seattle!!
"It's an experience" 🎸💖 Still get goosebumps. I was there the night this was recorded at Earls Court. I was sat in front of the stage (on the left) almost underneath the mirror ball. Mind-blowing is an understatement!! Glad you enjoyed it.. 🤘🎸
I cut my teeth on Pink Floyd, I have never tired of their music, they were the Air That I Breathed, and even to this day, Roger Walters continues to give me oxygen.
Pink Floyd is absolutely more than music. I really hope you continue listening to them. Every song is more beautiful and epic than the next. Happy listening. ✌💕🖖
So glad you decided to take my advice and listen to/watch this version of Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd. David Gilmore is an extraordinary guitarist, as you noticed. One of the greatest rock band ever. May I suggest Run Like Hell from the same concert? Enjoyed your reaction ✌️😎 P.S. Never pause during a David Gilmore guitar solo, you will upset a lot of people. Talking over one, as you did here, is a lot better than pausing. Good job!
Everyone in the world should have been packed into that stadium to hear that performance. Thank God it was captured in a quality video for future generations to enjoy. We can only imagine how lucky the people in that stadium were to witness this live.
Pink Floyd knows how to put on a show, that's for sure. This is my all time favorite band, you need patience to get the full effects because they don't usually get right in your face right away. You closed your eyes to experience the music, and that is one of the best ways to go about it. They have been around for a long time. The older keyboard player, passed away. The guitarist is still at it with his own solo career. That was a huge crowd in this video and I was happy not to see everybody with a phone out. The crowd was very orderly too which is great. I would have loved to be at that concert. There are several songs from this concert "Pulse" floating around UA-cam. Pick any of them and enjoy the show.
i was there. Earls Court, west London,1994,the Pulse tour. From start to finish,we were all immersed in utter happiness. Said here before that after the show, the thousands in attendance all sort of floated out and on to buses and tubes. And we all agreed that we had just witnessed something very special indeed. Been to thousands of gigs (with work in one form or another through 2 and a half decades in music) with plenty of them being in the "i was there" category, but THIS one was so unique that i thought,no one will ever come close to that. No one has.
You have the soul of a poet, an artist. Otherwise you would not react and describe the experience as you have. You are in The Book of Life. Clearly the emotion of music captures your soul. You're awesome.
Great reaction but one thing my friend keep your eyes open when watching one of the greatest bands of all time present a mind blowing rock and roll stage show extravaganza !! "Echoes" from Pompeii is very good "The great gig in the sky " also "Shine on you crazy diamond "
I was there at Earl's Court for four nights. Utterly incredible shows. You cannot imagine how bright the mirror ball was. What wasn't expected was for it to open. My jaw literally dropped in amazement.
Loved your reaction, it was a joy to see. My dad was of a generation that did not listen to the music of my generation, but in his later years, he became a Pink Floyd fan thanks to this concert.
they say that people that went to this show cried, went down nuts, got crazy with this awesome show. This was the penultimate song of the show. After that is run like hell... another song like comfortably numb...
Empress - You have really grasped Pink Floyd and your appreciation of the group by super fans like me is humbling. May I please suggest you listen to their first album - The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn - where it all started. The sound and feel of that album is fresh, unpretentious and super-experiential, thanks to Syd Barrett (at the very least Astronomy Dominie, Flaming and Interstellar Overdrive) And also Atom Heart Mother Suite from the album of the same name. You will not be disappointed - to see you laugh, smile, cry and emotionally swept away by music is a privilege to witness.
"That voice" is David Gilmour. That guitar solo is probably one of the best ever.....not the fastest, not the most technical...but the most emotive.
@EMPRESS JOY-JEAN Only it has to be the original version on The Dark Side Of The Moon. It has a very interesting story behind

Ahh, yes, but also Mike Oldfield, Tubular Bells
I found a lot of Dire Straits also did this
Saw the Pulse show live at RFK in DC. 👍

This girl recognizes life altering music when she hears, sees and feels it.
Gilmour has two voices. One speaks with words. The other is pure emotion it comes from his fingers.
I agree!
That's right ,buddy.

I was there. Everyone was enthralled. Spellbound. All 30,000 of us.
I was in Germany in Gelsenkirchen Arena 60000 people are in there! The greatest greatest music from earth ! And the best solo guitar we have ever hear
I would pay an awefulmlot for a Time Machine
Pink Floyd is considered the greatest classic rock band ever.
Thanks for the heartfelt reaction!
If there was ever a band to bridge the generation gap, it would be Pink Floyd. Timeless

David Gilmour solos are sublime.. No one can touch the soul like he does❤️
exactly the word I have been searching for is "touch the soul".
When you think it can't get better, it gets better
I'm 69 and this still brings tears , I have seen them a number of times and want more.
I only saw them once, and will remember that until the day I die!
One of the greatest Solo's ever. David Gilmour's musicianship is AWESOME.
She gets it, totally. That is high praise from this music-obsessed baby-boomer.

David Gilmour doesn't melt faces with his talent he melts minds....

Pink Floyd is a Feeling. you're absolutely correct !
The real trip is to close your eyes and go on a musical journey with them.

Enjoyed your reaction ✌️😎
P.S. Never pause during a David Gilmore guitar solo, you will upset a lot of people. Talking over one, as you did here, is a lot better than pausing. Good job!
"That voice" is beloved by so many... when he dies the world will weep. 😢😢😭
They are one remarkable talent - all members past and present
Everyone in the world should have been packed into that stadium to hear that performance. Thank God it was captured in a quality video for future generations to enjoy. We can only imagine how lucky the people in that stadium were to witness this live.
2005 live 8 reunion with Roger. It brings me to tears every time.
That Guitar Solo is extraordinary. Through his Brain, his Hands, his Fingers ... everything tells a Story!
He tells a Story! That Solo is awesome.
There were not many smart phones around in 1984! :-)
@@willrichardson519 Umm, try 1994, not 84.
i was there.
Earls Court,west London,1994,the Pulse tour.
No one has.
I feel that David Gilmour possesses powers that no other guitar player posess… my idol 🎸 .. his voice is my biggest comfort.
I stopped by for Pink Floyd and the solo and stayed for the wonderful reaction
Thank you✌
You have the soul of a poet, an artist.
Incredible band, incredible show, and a monster of a tour.. You should react to to the song High Hopes from the same concert 🔥🔥👍🎸
Pulse version of High Hopes is absolutely epic. Most of their best live stuff is from Pulse/Division Bell Tour
i agree 😎👍🎶
Or Sorrow.
Saw them at the Earls Court section of the tour and needless to say it was quite the experience. All of Darkside of The Moon. Truly superb.
@@guywillis1281 I prefer Gdansk Version :) Give it a try then :)
