I would kill to have it on there, though I always figured that the outdated portrayal of Conker kind of prevents it from being added. It seems kind of arbitrary, but given that he went in a vastly different direction, throwing that old depiction of him on a modern platform could potentially be a problem for Microsoft if they ever want to do a new Conker game. Or I’m just crazy
@@DKCfan10nah it wouldn’t effect it at all. It’s history not a new title
Yeah I guess so. I’m still sure Conker and Banjo are a big part of why the game isn’t getting rereleased
Of course
I want this added so bad!!! Loved this game as a kid. 😊
I think canonically, the characters in Banjo-Kazooie can just speak in English. The textbox and jibberish is just how we hear them talk.
They speak french canonically.
@@CoNteMpTonenobody speaks french canonically.
questions that I think the creators would just respond with: "just... don't overthink it, it's just there."
But that’s lame.
This game was peak childhood. Also my first time raging at a video game. Bro wizpig kept laughing at me and I kept losing
It was peak childhood!! Agreed
Actually, the greatest mystery of this game is, "Why is Conker not an alcoholic?"
Oh man I sort of cover that in a theory video about Berri on my channel
This game basically completed the birth of the Rare universe.
That it did! Partly what makes it special I think!
diddy kong racing slams mario kart i think we can all agree
100%
Eh…
Dkr is underrated!
Underrated as heck!!
Also, I can't believe this game is 27 Years old in 2024. That's amazing.
Its sad this time is over, it was the best time
Timber's parents (whom the island belong) have a lot to answer for. Wizpig didn't invade this place by accident.
The music in that game is amazing!
That it is!!!
Favourite track on Pirate Lagoon.
The reason why we didn't get Donkey Kong Racing is not a mysetery! That's because Rare was bought by Microsoft during this era.
Well not necessarily because we still got starfox adventures and such. It still had a chance. But it certainly didn’t help! The game almost transitioned to a Sabreman safari game for a while too that looked fun.
It wasn't far enough into development for them to finish before leaving. I kid you not, I was so disappointed when I heard Rare was leaving that I called NOA. They were like, well now we have new partners like Sega... -.-
It wasn't meant to be a star fox game.
@@jiggylookback Star Fox Adventures was literally a month away from release when the buyout happened. It had probably already gone gold, and promotional materials were already all over the place. It would have been a horrible financial and PR decision for both companies to cancel the game at that point. While there HAVE been games cancelled that close to release, they are extremely rare (no pun intended) and have never been a major IP.
Donkey Kong Racing was definitely cancelled because of the Microsoft buyout. Two other Donkey Kong games for the GBA - Diddy Kong Pilot and Donkey Kong: Coconut Crackers, were in development at the time of the buyout, and following that, were reskinned into Banjo Pilot and It's Mr. Pants Time, respectively. Microsoft was okay with Rare continuing to release games on the GBA because they had not yet entered the handheld market, but anything in development on the Game Cube had to be cancelled or released on X-Box instead, and because their partnership with Nintendo had ended, they could no longer use Donkey Kong or related characters.
Not a mystery, but a small fact that I found about Diddy Kong Racing that I found: There was a character planned named "Roo", a female, yellow kangaroo wearing boxing gloves on her hands. Roo was just a prototype for Pipsy.
And astromouse was another prototype i think
@@WahRizz That was the cancelled game that would feature Pipsy as the main star.
Maybe I’ll do a cut/lost content video at some point
Sounds like the main protagonist for Kao the Kangaroo which is a 3d platformer.
I believe in the official Nintendo player's guide for the game, it established that the bosses were brainwashed by Wizpig when he arrived if I am recalling from my childhood correctly.
It says it in the manual. I put it up on the video if you didn’t read it. It’s up there :)
BRING IT ON SWITCH GOD DAMN IT!
YES BRING IT
Hey, keep up the content man. Fun, informative(ish), energetic, and sounds like you're having fun. I've watched a few of your videos over the past couple months and you're improving fast. Anyway, just wanted to give you some encouragement.
Thanks I really appreciate that!! :)
Good question. The entirety of the Anglo-American alliance depends on it tbh.
The third N64 game I ever owned, got it with BK in early 1999 after getting the N64 for Christmas 1998. One of my favorite games for the system. Bumper has always been my main driver (I hate whole "Bumper went to jail" stuff)
Wow what awesome games to start with!!
@@jiggylookback Yeah for Christmas 1998 with the system we got Starfox 64 and Star Wars: Rogue Squadron. Then DKR and BK shortly thereafter for our birthday (me and my brother). And then in May 1999, Episode 1 Racer. Those were our first five games. After that I kinda lost track of the order I got my N64 games. Still have the console and all the games
He shouldnt have committed the crime then!
@@concerneddennizen1027 LOL
This one has boss battles their hard as hell but boss battles Mario kart don't got none of that I like Mario kart but I think Diddy Kong racing is way better
This game is so unique, I always loved the themed world lobbies. Imagine all the potential after so many years if there was a remake of this. I dont think there are other racing games that have tried to replicate what was done here (as far as I'm aware).
I don’t think I’ve seen any racing games quite like this one. The adventure mode really stands out. I would love a remake. Or at least an NSO release with online play!!
Diddy Kong Racing > Mario Kart 64 > > > > > > > > > > Mickey's Speedway USA

I'm loving your channel! Such unique and interesting mysteries.
Thank you! Trying to be different and unique
Banjo can speak, but in Banjo's games there is a lot of dialogue, so making audio files for it would make the game heavier and also have the player having lo lissten to dialogue insttead of music, which was the games biggest approach
Triceratops thing... Just don't go mixing things. StarFox has a game with an ending where Fox and Falco become racers in Fzero, and the fact DKR can relate to DKC, and DK can link to Mario games... 2 characters of same species on different planets, that's all
Magical Elephant
Bosses Vs Wizpig, the Bosses likely lost to Wizpig, that's why they are counting on you to beat him
Taj is weaker than Wizpig but is preparing you to be able to race Wizpig
Great vid, love the mix of theory and discovering facts from the manual etc
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
I dont think there's a lore reason why Banjo talks in this game but talks Rareanese in the Banjo-Kazooie games. Pretty sure its just a stylistic choice.
If my memories not hazy (I may be making this up without realizing) I actually remember one of the guys from the old days of Rare mentioning on Twitter that they wanted the game to be voiced, but settled for the gibberish we know now due to memory limitations. I forget who it was, but im pretty sure its the person who was uploading all sorts of concept art and documents on twitter a couple years back if this isn't a total false memory on my part.
It probably was a memory thing…I seem to recall something similar but I do like diving into hypothetical lore and theories to explain it haha
Diddy Kong Racing isnt on Switch because Banjo, Tiptup, and Conker are now owned by Microsoft. Renting the rights to use Banjo in Smash Ultimate guarantees a hefty payout but paying for all of the Rareware characters without charging us somehow isnt a 'good business move'
Yet there are other Rare properties on NSO, like Jet Force Gemini, Blast Corps, and even Banjo-Kazooie itself. I don't think that's what's holding it back. I think they're just saving it for later so they still have some big titles to release in the final year of the Switch's life.
@@matthewdivoll3453 seeing Jet Force Gemini gave me hope until I realized that it wasn't exactly a 'revered classic'. Either way, we'll see, but I'd bet they sooner put Penny Racers over Diddy Kong Racing.
The algorithm threw you on my front page and I am glad
I am also glad!! Got lots of content to share hope you dig it!
I just can't get over how insanely good the music in this game is. What a gem of a game!
Yeah for sure!
The snowmen live in frosty village. They are in defensive mode because people are driving all over their place and take the form as giant snowballs with eyes.
Defending their home!!! Let’s go ⛄️
I got this game by accident, at the time I wanted Mario kart but my mom accidentally got this instead, and I instantly fell in love with it.
What a happy accident!
I loved watching this video too, and now I know more stuff about this game that I played 7 months ago.
Honestly, I hadn't even thought about the game not being on NSO, but it's definitely a crime. I'd kill to see it, B-T, and DK64 (which I'm surprised about since it was ported to Wii U)
I got hopeful when Jet Force Gemini was added, suggesting new deals with Microsoft/Rare, but now I wonder lol... I have some concerns about potential forced lag, which was annoying enough in Paper Mario, tho
Honestly I've just wanted conker to hit so bad because we haven't had any Nintendo digital rereleased, only on rare replay that's exclusive to xbone :(
@@benamisai-kham5892 true... there's a part of me hoping that Rare Replay would become available on the general Microsoft Store at least, but I think it's a lost cause at this point lol - either way, I shall hope for you to get Conker too!
Yeah we need these games!
I think I told you before Diddy Kong racing is my favorite kart racer hard as hell but it's my favorite for me I think it's better than Mario kart all of them even the newest one
Agreed!
@@jiggylookback I'm glad you agree
The best driving levels and the best music on the n sixt fouuuurrrr!!!!

Diddy Kong Racing is my childhood more than Mario Kart, Donkey Kong, or Super Mario World.
Such a great game!
Lmao the fact Banjo did say his name!
The vocabulary of Banjo:
I’m Banjo! Yahoo! Uh oh!
Guh Ugg uhhh ahh ga huh
And XBOX, he says XBOX in a Rare Microsoft promo after the buyout
Great vid!
You should've quickly mentioned the ds port of this game and question if the two games are connected in some way.
Also, the Wizpig ghosts always freaked me out as a kid. They were up there right next to the ghost hand that plays the piano in BK and the ghost in Lego Racers for the N64.
Multiverse! DS and N64
They're the same game story-wise, but Banjo and Conker's existence is retconed for obvious reasons. Not to mention that Nuts & Bolts was coming out a year later, and Nintendo wouldn't want to promote a competitor's upcoming game. Back then, Nintendo and Microsoft were fierce rivals.
Great video bro! (There were a few follow up concepts to DKR by both Rare and another studio under Nintendo) 👏
Thanks so much!! I love those lost concepts
Nintendo also has a few racing games.
F-Zero, Diddy Kong Racing, and Mario Kart. Unfortunately Mario Kart being the most popular it just takes over as the only racing game.
5:14 I mean the answer is pretty obvious, the Rareware buyout happened, and the only characters from that trailer Nintendo owned at the time were DK, Diddy the animal buddies and Kiddy.
Yea the DK64 cast had to be bought back in exchange for the Banjo Kazooie cast.
Another amazing video ❤🎉
Thanks for watching again :)
There's a commercial where Banjo says a bunch of gibberish then finishes it with XBOX.
Lol I saw that. I guess add that to his list of words.
Cause Conker tells him he can’t understand him right? That’s the one I’m thinking of haha
Will watch any content based on 64 and rare. Keep it coming.
Okay will do! Haha
This game needs a remake hardcore.. I loved it as a child. I would totally play a remake or a sequel
Yes it does!!!
The biggest mystery of all really is why we never got that sequel on the GameCube. Yes, I know that Rare was bought by Microsoft but Nintendo could’ve easily still created a game with another studio.
Besides, DK and crew need more games anyway. Let’s hope this game comes to the switch online soon. I’m excited for it too!
I agree 100%
Nintendo was already busy with Mario Kart Double Dash!! and there's also the issue of character copyright uncertainty. Remember, Nintendo had to ask Rare permission whenever they wanted to use Donkey Kong in a Mario spin-off during the N64 era, and all references to Donkey Kong Country had to be kept to a minimum.
Wow that’s crazy. I don’t think I actually knew that part!
“Diddy have any previous ties to this island?” Great pun!
LOL
I remember the weird indent in Spaceport Alpha near the start line, where it looks as if a race key could have appeared. Future Fun Land doesn't have a battle arena though. In the remake they did put that balloon upgrading powerup there though. I mean I guess it's obvious that Future Fun Land was at one point considering having a battle arena but was cut due to time constraints, and its key would have appeared there.
I love that stuff! Thanks for sharing that!
Outside of these unusual mysteries, this game was one of the first games to intrigue me as a kid as to what is to be found through exploring. When the TT Door got mentioned, I wondered what that was. I would see a couple of balloons around Timber Island and feel compelled to explore every corner on a plane. And of course, there are the four keys across four racetracks that also encourage exploration. Or the way you unlock Drumstick. If there's any videogame that introduced me to explore every pixel of it for content as a kid, it's this one.
So bring it to Switch Online!
Yes bring it to NSO!!! Let’s goooo
It was the first game I had on N64 and I preferred it to Mario Kart, since you had more options of vehicles and a story mode.
The variety definitely makes it feel more significant!
I remember playing DKR for the first time and watching the driver intro video. The second I saw a character speed around the course with his hands off the steering wheel and laughing maniacally, I knew that was my character. To this day, I only play as Conker, on my emulator since it isn't on Switch Online.
Hahaha yeah Conker did drive like a psycho 😂
Dang I miss this game.
Me too. Me too.
The reason why Nintendo never remastered this game is bc the rights are all split up. Yes Nintendo owns diddy kong. But in the Microsoft buyout, they also purchased the rights to characters such as banjo, conker, timber the tiger, tiptup, and such and so on.
Unfortunately we will never see a proper port or remake without changing pretty much the entire cast
We totally could see it on NSO tho! Thats my hope!
Tho I would love to see a sequel of some kind at some point.
Actually, Dinosaur Planet is officially known as Sauria.
Right.
If you beat ever race and do a perfect game 10 times in a row, you can unlock Stone Cold Steve Austin as a secret racer.
Yes these were the types of rumors spreading about games back then. Good times
I love that stuff lol
Lmao random stuff like 4:21 brings me back to super old youtube game reviews
THATS WHAT I LOVE! I want old UA-cam back!
I just bear DKR for the first time a few days ago, so good timing with the video haha! The game was too hard for me back in the day..
Anyway, I'm pretty sure the characters in Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie talk gibberish because of memory issues with N64 cartridges. Having just a couple voice lines for all characters like in DKR saves a ton of space.
Well yes technically, I really wanted to explore a lore theory on why they talk like that. Just good fun :) but yes I believe you’re correct! And thanks so much for watching.
Glad you beat DKR I thought the Wizpig races were really hard as a kid.
It's criminal that it's not on Switch online
Yes it is!!
I loved playing DKR and snowboard kids 1&2
Classic games! I never got to play snowboard kids 2 tho! The first one was a blast tho!
Crash Team Racing was the only other game that came close to this level of charm. A racing game with a hubworld, with collect-a-thon elements, where you can collect and discover many neat secrets in the hub world alone. I remember being a kid and just flying around the hub world in a plane and having a blast. There was so much soul that went into this game, it feels like the only place where you can find “soul” in games now a days is in indie games.
Yes! It has soul! Thats a lot of those Rare games on this generation. The secret sauce that makes em special.
Diddy Kong needs to return
He does.
The reason why the bosses don't race against Wizpig is because they've been hypnotized from him once and he can do it again, So they offer the amulets to the best racer instead and hope they can become faster and beat him at a race to Wizpig he sees you as a joke that you couldn't beat him due to your size but for others like the Triceratops & Dragon he knew he wouldn't be the fastest because he's outmatched in their abilities
Yep. I did show the manual that says how they’re under his spell.
Ready! oh ho! This is for you.
🎈 I can hear the music playing
Not really a mystery. Donkey Kong racing, didn't make the cut, because, Microsoft bought rare at that time. Something about they didn't want that game, so the idea for donkey Kong racing, got reworked into barrel blast.
I remembered in the Juke box, when the cheat is added there's a song that plays , that's not used anywhere in the game, it sounds like it's meant to be in a course, I think it's a violin that's playing?
Yeah there are some “unused songs”
About the Warpstone theory...The Warpstone himself said that he CAN'T (Or "Cannae") warp dinosaurs. But, it's the Nintendo universe. Some other weird plot device transported Tricky the boss to Racecourse Island.
That’s right. I forgot about that! Or maybe he’s tired cause he did it so much? LOL I mean we do have spaceships and rockets here so maybe they took one of those.
A contender for one of my favourite games of all time and kart racers aren’t even in my top 5 game genres, such a magical game! 😊🎉
Yeah I’m with you!!
Good video! I mean, I think the main reason Diddy Kong Racing isn't on Switch Online is that Nintendo would need to get licensing permission from Microsoft and they just don't care (or want to). It really is a shame, but if Banjo-Kazooie can make it onto Switch Online, I don't see why they wouldn't be able to work something out with Microsoft.
I always thought that all of Rare's game worlds were connected somehow as some of their own characters had cameos in their other games. I had assumed that Star Fox Adventures took place before Diddy Kong Racing, so that the Tricky you met in Star Fox was the same one you raced in Diddy Kong Racing (just obviously older).
Did you see my mapping the rare universe video? Highly recommend
@@jiggylookback Oh, no! I didn't see that video yet, but I'll check it out! Thanks!
Explain Banjo-Kazooie, Goldeneye 007, Jet Force Gemini and Blast Corps on Switch Online. IF those games can get on NSO, why can't DKR?
@@arthurengine Nintendo just doesn't feel like it...or the wonderful possibility that they are developing a remaster?
And never forget the octopus boss is farting bubbles!!!😂😂
For sure!!! Lol
amazing race game
Yes it is
I never beat it Diddy Kong racing that game is hard😂😂😂 I actually beat elden ring LOL I never beat it Diddy Kong racing
Banjo Kazooie uses gibberish bc full voice acting wouldn't have fit on the cartridge for the hundreds of lines of dialogue in that game. DKR has maybe two dozen voice lines and most of them are just a few words. Easier to have full voice acting.
Right right, but they did keep up with it in future games as well. Meaning there is Loooorrrreeeee haha
This game is one of my favorite N64 games and is way better than Mario Kart 64 in my eyes. It's ashamed it never got re-release on virtual console or NSO cause of Microsoft buying Rare. There's not much reason for me to play this if it ever does come to NSO since I have the actual cartridge for the actual N64
False! Online multiplayer! Thats why it should be on NSO!
Tiptup always give me nightmares with those teeths
He’s got some serious chompers
Have you done Jet Force Gemini yet?
Here's one another UA-cam covered. WHY IS KRUNCH EVEN IN THE GAME. He's objectively the worst character, but one might argue, "for the octopus hovercraft boss". But by then, Drumstick is already unlockable, and is objectively better for a "heavy" character.
Yeah I think I saw that video! Awesome!
And no I haven’t done Jet Force yet! This series is pretty young and I’ve only done a few of them.
I’ll get to it eventually haha
Krunch was supposed to be equivalent to Bowser stats wise, but something went wrong with the coding and Krunch's Speed Stat defaulted to 1. He's supposed to have a Speed Stat of 5 and 1 on Acceleration and Handling.
Thankfully he was fixed in the DS version, but Taj and Wizpig now outclass him in Top Speed.
Ancient Lake is one of my favorite songs in anything
Same!! I love that song!
Banjo can also say uhoh and whoa
That’s true!

How in the bleeding hell did I never notice the Nintendo Coin in DK 64 was literally one of the Silver Coins from DKR? XD In any case, the only character I can think of who would have built that lighthouse into a rocket for basically no good reason was Funky Kong, because of his love of Artillary in DK64. Beyond that, you'd just have to ask L.O.G. about it. XD

I had the DS remake yea it sucks that they removed Banjo and Conker, but removing Taj accent was the biggest crime. Also, I'm gonna say it. Donkey Kong Racing idea was bad. I would rather have Diddy Kong Racing 2 with the vehicles instead of animals.

Well thanks for clarifying. It’s hard sometimes when I put a lot of work into my videos. Get a little defensive :P appreciate you taking the time to engage
How do you know Banjo's not multi lingual?
I don’t! Haha
The most annoying “Reason” I always hear is that it’s some licensing issue with Rare. Let’s get this straight. Nintendo owns Donkey Kong. Nintendo owned Donkey Kong when Rare created their reimagined vision for the series. Nintendo is not going to give another company the rights to something based on their character. I’m 99% sure everything in the DK franchise from Kremlings to Wizpig are all owned by Nintendo and not Rare
You don’t get the rights to things you create for someone else’s franchise unless it’s a special agreement between the parties, and Nintendo had zero reason to do that for Rare when DKC was created.
I don’t think Wizpig is.
But def Dk and company are all owned by Nintendo. The other characters I believe are Rare.
People like to blame that buyout of Microsoft for everything but it really didn’t. They still released games they were working on on the GameCube and gamboy advance!
@@robertlauncher yeah I know for a fact everything in DKC is owned by Nintendo but DKR is an interesting case because Banjo and Conker are def owned by Rare. I believe the other original characters are also Rare. It’s weird

A video to perfectly show how lame todays generation can be to literally pick apart every single thing because every movie/game has to be inter connected in its own universe with lore on every single tiny thing. He speaks cause its two words and cartridge space says no to paragraghs. There are houses in a level because what do you want no scenery? I dont think Rare were thinking elaborate back stories to snow balls and homes. And so on 😴
This comment is super lame.
This is purely made for fun. Don’t suck the joy out of it.
And idk what you’re saying about today’s generation. I grew up with this game.
Mario kart 8 can't compare to Diddy Kong racing I don't care that's just how I feel I wish that they would remaster this game
Or the gibberish is just a way of having the characters audibly speak without wasting precious cartridge space on fully-voiced dialogue. At least until the proper compressiod methods were achieved to make it feasible (Conker, Dinosaur Planet, etc.)
Yeah I mean technically. I like adding lore tho haha
Growing up with this game. Being about maybe 5 or so. Id see my oldest brother rage against that darn triceratops. We also found the frog wit the feather to get Trunks I think his name is. We also had BanjoPilot which was somewhat obscure.
Drumstick is the character you get from running over the frog :)
