Can you advise if this is an automatic? From what I can tell Manuals have shorter cv axles.
Excellent "How TO", used to help granddaughter save BIG $$. I have not worked on a Civic before but have swapped a CV axle or two. Ran into one issue ... the axle did NOT hammer out so had to use a uni front axle puller. As tight as it was it would have never driven out. One other hint ... most looking up this vid for assistance will likely NOT have access to lift. Save yourself some time and jack the vehicle WAY UP from the git-go you'll need the extra clearance when crawling under to pry loose the axle from the transmission ... DON"T FORGET JACK STANDS ... Thanks again
+950Charlie Thanks for checking us out and the feedback! 1AAuto.com
I got it out laying underneath on the ground with minimal clearance by taking a small prybar from the 6:00 position and a mini crow bar (the ones an inch wide and 8 inches long with the 110 degree bend-the kind used to pry loose roofing nails) from the 12:00 position. I used the 110 degree bend side and put the edge in the tiny space and pushing the prybar from below and the mini crow from above it popped right out first time. It was easy to get the mini crow bar and my hand above it the axle too. This eliminates the pinch-point from below at the 6:00 position- created when using the prybar only- that stymied me for hours and hours.
I have to do this myself soon because my boot is leaking grease, I've watch a few videos on this particular job, and your video is by far the best! Thank you for all the clear camera angles!

Dang bro I love this channel y’all always get all the steps and have grate camera and audio quality couldn’t ask for a better video
Great video. I just got a 09 and these videos will be helpful as all vehicles are different
I can't believe how much shops want for this easy ass job. My mechanic that I used to trust (until today) said it's 3 hours worth of labor 🤣🤣
Just an f.y.i for Civic Si owners, to remove the spindle you're going to need a 36 mm socket.

Thank you! I bought a 36 hoping itd be right reading online and it was
Wish i saw this a week ago. Got the 32mm had to return it for a 36mm now the CV shaft cup on the passenger side trans output half shaft WILL NOT slide out. It's like something is stopping it, such as a clip or pin. It slides 1-2mm then dead stop. It's not rusted in.
you made it look so easy but certainly there is some art in what you do, I commend your skills claps claps
Great video guys step by step like every dam fix it yourself video should be made! Thank you guys so much!

Thanks - makes it looks easy, and without unnecessary waffle
I know it won't be that easy.
Looks like those civics are one of the easiest when it comes to axle change.
How come the 1A auto shaft doesnt have the dynamic damper thing that the OEM has? Not sure if thats the name but im referring to that thing to the left between the boots
Great job man!!! I proceeded to damage the wheel sensor and possible the axle screw by watching someone else "hack" video to do this job.
The three (3) screws under the lower ball joint are a brilliant approach and very professional, but replacing the tire to remove the axle nut is not
the best way (extra steps) to stop the rotor assembly from turning; I use a crow bar leveraged between two (2) lug studs to hold it against the ground. Thank you. I am actually pulling the engine and I need to make room to access the back (starter, etc.) of it.....
what about the damper on the axle the one you replaced doesnt have it and the old one did does it make a difference?
this is the video to watch
if you change out the seal, don't seat it fully. only til the outside is even with the outside of the transmission. Seat it as far as you can and it will leak.
I have a 2015 civic. The pass side shaft seems to have a bearing in the middle. Does the bracket for it have to come out?
Why would you go through all of that work and not change the transmission seal while you have the drive shaft out?
I asked the Honda service team about that. They said replacing the transmission seal wasn't necessary. They wouldn't have done it either if you had Honda do the work.
Is it necessary to get a wheel alignment done after replacing the axle?
What do you do if the axle doesn’t pry out I have a pry bar but the darn thing won’t come out it’s jammed in there
is this the same as 2015 model civic ex? just wondering
Question to 1A or any experienced personnel here. Is the Civic Si 06-11 has the same front axle as the FD2 Civics.
Any info would be dearly appreciated
Great video 👍
Is it safe to hit it with the hammer? Great video bythe way
perfect
Haha watched you guys video to replace my control arm and managed to crack the axle seal or boot. I got grease leaking all over. Now I gotta do this lol smh
That's exactly what happened to me!
Good video.
Um what about the fact that no fluid came out when he pulled the axle and he didn't instruct you to add transmission fluid after the fact I could be wrong here but I do believe fluid should come out of there if car is level and pretty sure you have to add some fliud
How much of a job would you have on hand if you broke the seal from the transmission?
Wonder that myself. It's what is keeping me from doing this.
I damage the seal. No clue how bad it's going to be
Very straight forward and simple to remove the old seal with a long flat screw driver. Install with a round socket that will match the diameter of the seal and tap it in to the bore straight. On non si automatics, left and right seals are different size. The seals should be replaced if car is over 10years. Lubricant with trans fluid during seal install and shaft installation
Is this the same for a manual transmission I am doing an engine swap and need to get to the back of the engine I have a bearing that is behind the lower motor mount and can't seem to get around it
A bearing ??? Oh god u blew it up that bad 😂
Great vid but my 06 1.8l coupe is different as it has 2 pieces to it... 1 axle coming straight out of the transmission to a bracket and then a second “half shaft” at a downward angle to the wheel hub assembly. I’m having a hard time getting the 2 apart which is why I was watching this video. Unfortunately it didn’t help but great job none the less. If anyone happens to see this and knows a good way to separate the 2, I would greatly appreciate the help.
I wish someone would answer this question too. I'm having the same problem
Grab a piece of wood, brace it on the back of outer axle metal shroud and hammer the wood, it should pop loose.
Beware I believe the SI is different. It has a half shaft and a carrier bearing where the cv connects. My Si with 168k is a bear to separate
Do we gotta drain the transmissuon before pulling the passenger axle?
+Edwin Viera No
Is this the same for the hybrids too?
You need to clarify that this is only for automatics not manual
+The Dark Mage Thanks for the feedback!
I have to replace the seal also?
Do we need to do alignment after change this CV joint?
Thanks for checking us out. No you do not need to get an alignment after replacing the CV axle! If you or any of our viewers need the part shown in this video please follow this link to our website: www.1aauto.com/2006-11-honda-civic-cv-axle-shaft-passenger-side/i/1aacv00127?UA-cam>m5zr72YVI
1A Auto Parts Hey can you guys do a video on installing the engine splash shield for a 2001-2005 Honda civic please
Wouldn't it have been easier to just remove the strut bolts and let it flop down?
1 1/4 socket will work on the axel but as well
Is it the same for a 07 Honda fit?
how come you didn't replace the CV axle seal at the trans?
How tf do u get the lower control arm back on so easy
Are they the same part for coupe or sedan?
+Rob Fassi Thanks for checking us out! This item is specific to engine size, not the body style. This particular unit is specific to models with a 1.8L engine. Hope this helps you out!
What's up with the middle thing on the shaft?
I did this and now my axles are binding up, axles are seated properly, does anyone have any insights?
Do the notches line up in the grooves? How wld u tell
does the vehicle need an alignment at this point?
How much is it for this job?
+Daniel Danydaniel A shop may charge anywhere from $400-$1200
So you’re telling me I just can’t remove the two struts bolts & maneuver the knuckle around like that instead of removing the control arm from the ball joint? Cause it’s a lot easier to install the two struts bolts than keep prying out that control arm.
Do you happen to know what the torque specs for the outer tie rod is?
ahahahahh torque specs
Is the process the same with the 1.3 hybrid model? I’m having a hard time removing the old axel
+Colten Carbasho Thank you for watching! This is not the same for the 1.3L hybrid model. We do not currently have a video for this, but will add it to our list!
1A Auto: Repair Tips & Secrets Only Mechanics Know good to know. I was about to work on it. Looking forward to this video.

@@1AAuto I have a 2008 hybrid and I’m also having a very difficult time removing the old cv shaft from the main axle/driveshaft. It doesn’t pop out with a pry bar as it doesn’t connect directly to the transmission, being a CVT. Any insight on how to remove it?
3:11 🤣🤣🤣 "deez 🌰🌰"
07 with clutch is not the same
why is there tape on the watchet ?
Hope the crush washer was changed too cause that thing was dripping oil from the drain bolt lol
I have an 09 Civic SI couldnt do it myself :(
I need to change my passenger side axle...how would I know if the axle is seated right in the transmission when placing the new one in?
If the splines are different sizes it would only go in one way but if they are equal then it doesnt matter meaning if you can connect it without forcing it then its in correctly
What if it is stuck in the transmission
Try using a longer prybar being careful not to damage the transmission. The longer the prybar, the better the leverage
You got to go under the car and pry it out. I changed the drivers side today and took apart the passenger side but it got dark so tomorrow I will pry it out and install the new one.
that is the tough part. not designed to be easy, they should have put a divit in the casing for a tool to get under the transaxle easier. Best tool is a wide chisel blade with a 14 inch or so handle for prying. Don't damage the seal.
This applies 2013 ?
+Epifanio Cruz The part in this video fits your application, and the install should be the same or similar. Buy this part on 1AAuto.com: 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
How do I use the prying bar?, when the car is just on Jacks.
Put it in between the transmission and the C/V axel and gently pry towards the opposite side of the car. It should pop right out
I took a jack and lifted up the spring and then poped it out. To reinstall I did the same thing as i was fighting with a pry bar for 2 hours to put it back. I then tried a jack and it raised perfectly in place.
@@anilbaksh9962 what spring?
Mines stuck to the transmission that’s not easy
Can you give me the torque values ? I cnt hear it
+Commando Kitty Kitty The wheel hub will be 134ft lbs and the nuts on the lower control arm are 43ft lbs.
Si spindle nut 181 ftlb
Is it the save for a 2014
+Tab Loco In the 6 year difference they most likely won't be exactly the same, however the general idea for replacement should be relatively the same. It would definitely be beneficial to additionally consult a repair manual (like haynes) for the correct year of your vehicle.
Thanks
