Ok, I just did this job on my '06 Civic Si. This step by step was spot on! I had a little extra effort with the prying of the knuckle because i had it on jackstands in my driveway...as high as i could get it. Didn't leave much clearance for the prybar action. Not impossible, but a lift like you show would be ideal. Also, Si torque values are a little different, but this is the best video of this job i found.
Thanks to your step by step videos, I changed passenger and driver side CV axles and struts in under 2 1/2 hours. Didn’t have a lift, so jacking the car up from the front jack point and using jack stands on both sides set me back. One thing I came across everybody, is when the trans fluid was leaking out the passenger side, I noticed it dripping from what looked to be the center of my transmission case! Thought maybe I cracked it while prying it out. But the oil was leaking down into a cover and dripping out from the bottom. I went in to panic mode, then realized what was going on. Easy do it yourself, best of luck to everybody!
I just finished doing my car thank you soo much I cant believe it was so easy, I barely know the basics of a car like how to do regular maintenance and that’s about it and I was able to replace both left and right CV axles in just under an hour. This guys not a mechanic he’s a car doctor that’s great at breaking down and explaining the whole process from beginning to end.
I am very impressed with the amount of detail (and no assumptions on how much viewers know) in this video. Well done guys. I feel confident in being able to tackle this job now.

How would you recommend setting up the car in a garage without a lift? Drive onto blocks and then jack up the drivers side further and install a stand underneath it? Or just jack it up off the flat concrete floor as far as reasonable?
Real Richmond It would’nt hurt, yes. The outboard splines, of course. Not the splines that go into the transmission. Antisieze would also be acceptable.
I noticed on your website that you also have a 4-piece set that includes hub assemblies. If I'm replacing both CV axles, is there a way to tell if I need the assemblies as well or just replace the axles?
If you don't hear any grinding or grittiness in your bearings when you spin hub then you are ok. If you need new bearings then just buy what they call a loaded knuckle online. The efforts to change and press bearings and hubs are not worth your labor time. They can be had at a reasonable price. Cost you more for a bearing press, bearings and new hubs.
No fluid loss? on the other side did it pour??? My last CV shaft R&R was on a 1982 Datsun 310 GX, when the shaft came out so did the tranny fluid... Honda's different??
Honda's do drain a little fluid, but, it really depends on how the vehicle is supported. Replacing a CV axle on my Honda with only the front of the car jacked up into the air, it will leak. Lifting the entire vehicle and keeping it level, it won't leak out much, if any.
What would you suggest to do for the CV being rusted into the hub? Banged and sprayed rust penetrating fluid, banged some more and now to a torch with no luck. Please help.
Use a 5lb slide hammer attached to a hub puller on your lug nuts. Spray wd 40 in hub joints let it soak and start hammering out. Slide 5 hits at a time. When you add new axle put a little grease on splines before installing.
Those shaft lengths are definitely not the same (and need to be)...I will assume you may have not been showing a direct fit replacement. Please let me know if the inner joint has so much axial play that the side by side difference seen when they are on the bench is nothing to worry about. Thank you.
This video ultimately helped me, but I had to figure out how to disengage the axel, which wasn't nearly as straight forward as implied. Both the new axel, and the one I removed, had a loose ring that seems to flop around a bit. From what I gather, mine was seated low so it was catching and not allowing the axel to release. A good deal of rotating, wiggling, and a bit of thumping with my dead blow and a short section of 2x4 eventually allowed it to disengage, and when it did finally go it was just like all the videos that cut that part out. I wish they'd have shown that bit. Took well over an hour of me to get to that stage of what looked almost instantaneous in this (and other) videos.
Curious if my 2006 civic ex needs this replacement. Car shakes a little only when gas is being pressed while car is at speed over 40mph. Let go of gas it stops shaking. Hit gas and immediately starts shaking a little. New tires all around so cars wheels tires are all balanced
I'm in a similar situation with my 07 Civic and you should be checking for a worn bearing more than anything in my opinion. A worn bearing can fail catastrophically...a worn CV joint will just click on corners and can survive a LOT of slow failing before it's very obvious.... please for your safety, check bearing play in wheel and then tie rod etc.

Is there is a difference when the civic has a manual transmission ?

+Justin B Thanks for watching. Hope this video has helped you out. 1aauto.com
Yes, Great Video... Thank You!!
Would you happen to have anyting on a 2000 Civic same repair? It'd be highly appreciated. One of the best tutorials that I've seen thus far
+mario juano We currently do not have this video for your vehicle. Thanks for checking us out!
The new and old shafts are different in length. Should we make sure that they are the same length before installing the new one?
It’s a nice touch to have the “H” logo facing the valve stem.
Great, great video. Just did both. Car is like new again. Thanks
No Clatter EH
Excellent video! Clear step by step instructions. Thank you
What about the fluid that leaked? Could that be topped off at home or should it be taken to an oil place?
And last put in your center cap , oppps.
Very nice instruction video ,it gives me the confidence I need 😀
+George Michon Thank you! We are happy we could help.
Clear! To the point! And VERY helpful tips! Thank YOU!!
Amazing thank you so much I'm now going to subscribe
What a brilliantly easy video to follow 👏

Need alignment after this replacement/procedure?!
Thank You.
Thank you i fixed my2008 civic coupe 🙏 god bless u
I’m going to try to do this tomorrow, wish me luck y’all lmao
+angel ruz Thanks for checking us out. We hope this video helps you get the repair done! 1AAuto.com
how did it go. i’m gonna try this soon
Awesome video. Perfect demonstration of the repair process.
Looks pretty easy...you explained this really well thanks for your videos.
Stevie Wonder could see why it was so easy to get the outer axle out, the lower ball joint was replaced
Should there be a very small gap in area where we pried off the axle?
I can't get the control arm to alight over the ball joint. I used a prey bar too but my rotor and assembly doesn't move so easily like yours at 9:05.
Does the civic gen 8 inner CV joint have different sizes on the right and left?
Much easier when you have the lyft, but still, a very DIYr job at home. Thanks for the video.
I can't get the cv axle to go in all the way on wheel side, it hits metal to metal and won't go any further, any ideas?
This was much easier by removing the bolts attached to struts
Hi, how much should it cost for labor to do the installation on one? Thanks for your time.
Nice clear video...with simple instructions.
+Lionel Lake Thanks for the feedback!
Do you grase the side going into the transmission?
He makes it look sooo easy
Does the ABS ring matter?
Do you lube the splines before reinstalling the axle?
Real Richmond It would’nt hurt, yes. The outboard splines, of course. Not the splines that go into the transmission. Antisieze would also be acceptable.
How do you know there is something wrong with the old one?
Front end clicking when turning or vibration upon acceleration
Also if the CV Grease puked out all over the place! 🤮
So if I replace the cv axle will that fix my cv joint problem I'm having?
Hi, do I need to replace those transmission fluid?
You should! Check the transmission fluid dip stick to see how much you have.
I noticed on your website that you also have a 4-piece set that includes hub assemblies. If I'm replacing both CV axles, is there a way to tell if I need the assemblies as well or just replace the axles?

Lol those nuts never come off that easy. I’d like to see the guy make a video working on a New York car. GOOD LUCK.

why was the new one different length than the old one?
Hi is the cv axle for automatic transmission is the same on a manual transmission?
No, the cv axle shown in this video is only compatible in models with an automatic transmissions. +Bryan Aguado
Very helpful highly appreciated!!
Tank you great video

i know this video is old but how much ATF does it leak if the transmission is full
Xenomax Test none at all.
Can a shot axle cause my steering wheel to shake and vibrate during highway speeds?
Yes and so can a bad wheel bearing.
I remember being told to not use an impact on a axle nut to remove it but can't remember why. Do you know why?
I use an impact to remove it and add a new nut to it and torque to specs by hand.
Does anyone know the spline count for the r18 cv shafts please?
Do you need to grease the splines before installing the shaft?
I was thinking YES..... and will do mine...
Grease?. They don't have play (movement) between parts, they fit exactly.
Put a light film of grease on splines. You'll thank yourself later.
What about the “abs” ring that is on the cv axle? That doesn’t seem to be something addressed.
Following my car has ABS and some axle comes with ABS ring some doesn't.
abs magnetic ring is in the wheel bearing. A sensor attaches to hub.
Those shaft lengths are definitely not the same (and need to be)...I will assume you may have not been showing a direct fit replacement. Please let me know if the inner joint has so much axial play that the side by side difference seen when they are on the bench is nothing to worry about. Thank you.
Good job 👏🏻 thank you 😊.
Just got your axles for my whip

They have this axle at a good price I just checked it out
Awesome video
What size center punch is that?
Very clear

Anyone have any tricks because mine won’t fully seat
Rubber Mallet/Dead Blow hammer hit hard enough on the CV axle Nut
Can't you just put the vehicle in park to keep the front wheels from turning?
Yes.
There appears to an inch difference in the length.
nice
Sorry, it is as well a 2011 Civic lx.
Man this would be a breeze if I had a 6ft shop jack
What a fanage
My have cap at end of it do take it off

Me gusto una pregunta cuando se suscribe es gratis o ay que pagar por mes
Removing the axle nut is NOT that easy 😂 it takes a lot more force than that
Well now ik i can just smack it out. Guess mines just stuck. Thank you very much.
Ps. If anyones having trouble removing the trans side. Use two prys. One on each side.
You can use a slide hammer also and get creative. Just don't slam the hammer back too hard.
Use impact tool man makes me nuts watching you suffer
They just want sell parts
Not that easy
