You have a very capable receiver. Try to get a manual and remote control for internal set up. Invest in good quality speakers, and Sub. Do research on internal setting up For the speakers and subwoofer. This will also work well with 5.1 Toby Digital home theater movies. Get rid of the speakers you were currently running. 👍
Love it! I have a thrift store that sells stuff like this dirt cheap. Got a optimus receiver, two pioneer dual cassette decks, a set of 3 way optimus floor speakers, and more. I'm loving it.
Just driving home with the exact receiver that I picked up for $20 from my local thrift store. Perfect amp for guys like us who don't care about the modern upgrades. Gave you a 👍
I use a Bluetooth Aux Adapter ($9.99) with a 3.5mm to RCA AV Camera Video Cable ($5.99). I use my Yamaha to push 4 large floor speakers. It sounds great!!
I work around the no HDMI by using my TV as the video switcher then using the optical out from the TV to the receiver, also makes it easier if you just want to use the TV sound instead of full surround.
Apparently the company is has discontinued them an started another using the same YHT-5960U but different model because the newer model has different setup but same model number as this one ...the newer one has 5.1-Channel Home Theater System with 8K HDMI and MusicCast
Yes. Most modern AV receivers don't have a phono preamp. I think that's because they're directed at the home theater market rather than the audio market, though there's obviously some overlap between the two. I plan to cover that issue in a future video.
Yes. All AV receivers have multiple line-level inputs which can be used like that. All you need is a cord that has a stereo plug for the phone on one end and two RCA plugs on the other end. The RCA plug go into the back of the receiver. Those can be bought at computer/electronics stores or on Amazon.

I’ve run a 5.1 Mirage speaker setup on this receiver through optical since 2005. Still no need to replace it, sounds great.
I still use this after over 25 years. Amazing sound quality.

Good to know, thanks for the info!
I don't see "Phono In." Will I have to get a pre amp in order to run a turntable?

Is there a way a phone with an audio jack can hook up to this using a dongle and chord?
