Youthman getting back to basics . Very helpful video for people who just home and unboxed a prized AVR to begin their home theater journey ❤❤🔥🔥.
Thank you. Trying to help anyone that is interested in Home Theater, regardless of where they are in their journey.
That video was great! Very impressed how you demonstated everything in a way that even this A/V rookie was able to understand! Thank you!
Thank you kindly.
Sometimes you know when you watch an amazing guide. Thank you! , sir.
@Youthman, I am so glad I found your channel. This video answers a lot of things others weren't.
My friend has a:
BOSE sound bar that has:
1.S/PDIF Output - 2.a RCA input #1 3.a RCA input #2 -3.a sub out
SHARP AQUOS QUATTRON
What I see on the back(I'm assuming that's what I'm supposed to use for this case)
VIDEO 1 w/ R AUDIO L AND VIDEO
VIDEO 2 w/ R AUDIO L AND VIDEO
COMPONENT w/ R AUDIO L AND VIDEO AND Pr Pb and Y
(She has the BOSE RCA input #1 going into that component R AUDIO L AND VIDEO of the TV.
AV YAMAHA HTR
On the back of the AV I have no idea where to plug anything to the back of this. I twiddled around and put it in the CD in the DVD in everything I could and on the front put in the corresponding input and nothing works.
I'm confused on making work through the tv(which doesn't work) the AV (which she has sitting there) and I'm lost.
I see from your video the visual on the back looks so much like mine, but I can't get it connected and for the last 4 weeks till I seen this video, it started to make sense, but still don't know what I'm doing wrong. Its driving me nuts!!
Can you tell me where I'm going wrong or whats the best way please, Thanks
Great video! I needed to figure out how hook up a used Pioneer Elite AVR receiver and wasn't sure about a few things but you did such a good job of explaining that I now know how to do it.
Thank you for this great walk-through. I recently bought an old old Pioneer SC-LX57, and now will connect it up.
Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for
Thank you so much. Just starting here.
Excellent straight forward video and nice amp. I stick to 8 ohm speaker. Banana connection is sweet.
Very nice overview. I would have liked to have seen you quickly discuss 12v triggers and possibly also IR inputs - but regardless this is a good intro for someone that has no idea where to begin. Thanks for your efforts and all the content you put out Youthman! 👊
Amps come with a 3.5mm cable to connect from the 12v trigger on the AVR to the amp. Turn the amps power to on. Now when you turn on the AVR, it “triggers” the amp to turn on. When you turn AVR off, it “triggers” the amp to turn off. That’s it
Thx Youthman! Love your content. I havent seen Component cables in a min lol. This video is very much needed in our community thank you!
Right? I’m a bit surprised brands continue to add them to AVR’s but I guess people still have older gear they want to connect.
I really appreciated seeing this. I'm now wondering if it is worh keeping my old Technics SA-GX190. It doesn't have any HDMI ports.
Blessings 🙌🏿
Kansas City is Watching 👀
This video showed me everything I needed! Thank you very much. Banana plugs! Woohoo!
I’m glad you found the video helpful
Great video. I really appreciate it! Quick question… I am setting up an older pioneer elite monitor with hdmi however not arc. I have a pioneer elite vsx-90 Reciever and pioneer elite blue ray player. I just purchased a sound bar with arc (Polk)
Where would I connect the hdmi cable from the sound bar to my receiver? Could I connect it to the arc hdmi since I won’t be using that for the monitor?
More Youthman awesomeness! Thx Mr. Stevens! You're a real pro.
Appreciate it.
Thank you for making it fairly close up I was able to zoom with magnification. So many other UA-camrs don't make it easy for a geek to see when having a issue with low vision. They either don't speak English, or they don't talk at all. and the view isn't lit or close up. So, thank you very much. I learned about some great tips of the banana tips and the new terminology. I give you a like and *****.
Glad you found the video helpful
This is so useful, as a college kid in charge of my groups home audio system and with zero knowledge of any of this last week, thank you, this makes it so much easier!
Thanks for that, great explaination.
You are the best out of everyone explain this onkyo receiver. I love your content well understood. God bless you.
Thank you kindly
A most outstanding post. Clarified a big box of what didn't I know..
I'm glad you found the video helpful.
Great tip on how to use an RCA splitter to connect multiple subwoofers using their RCA connections
It’s a common question that I get asked
very thorough thank u!
Very good instructions.
I subscribe as soon as I fall sleep listening to you’re lecture knowing more about receiver and external amplifier and so forth, very easy to understand and follow , I do understand receiver and some sound system it’s just I need to go back to basic which you explain very well , Huge Thanks and keep it up, Stress free lecture to follow 😊😊😊,

First of all thank you for the very helpful video especially for beginners.
But there is one thing I don’t understand. Most of the AV receivers have reasonable power output only for 2-3 channels. What’s the reason? If I buy over 1000$ receiver I expect to have enough amplification. But in fact even for 5.1 if I am using mid range speakers, I have to set up two receivers just for amplification purposes. This seems strange. I have no place and budget for second amplifier. Now I am thinking just to continue using my sony ht-ct390 soundbar which sounds just great for its value instead of investing 2000$ for two receivers and speakers. I am not even sure if I will get noticeable difference.
Another question I have is related to audio/video lag. I don’t find this information in specs, but it is very important for comfortable gaming. Are there any benchmarks for the input lag performed with single and double receivers?
Great video. Very simple and direct. I just purchased an Onkyo TX-NR696 AV Receiver which replaced my 18 yr old Onkyo that did not have HDMI outputs/inputs. My old Onkyo unit connected to my projector with component cables. Ive connected speaker cables to my new unit and ran HDMI cable to my projector. When I select HDMI on my projector, it says no “HDMI signal”. To set up my new Onkyo system I need to see TV screen but either the HDMI signal isn’t being sent from receiver or it’s not being detected by the projector. I know you did not demo Onkyo, but any suggestions? Onkyo printed material isn’t as helpful as i’d like. The only instructions it gives for initial set up is to connect to TV and then follow the prompts on the TV. I don’t use a TV, just projector….which isn’t projecting. I’m wondering if my new unit isn’t compatible with just a projector?? I’ll try calling their support line. Thanks again for the great video.
ahh there we go, that explains it. i just bought a pioneer vsx 815 at thrift for $20, using it for my PC speakers (sony bookshelf speakers), wasn't sure if I was supposed to do the bare wire twisty connectors or the pre-out (i'm so used to RCA cables, so i tried the pre-out). no sound.. then i went to the twisty, sound works, but was confused as to what the preout even was. thanks!
D video really help and put throw, and I thank God my system works perfectly without contacting technician.
This person explained so clearly and so sample.
I have watched so many videos about how to add extra amp to av receiver, but this was super easy to understand.
I really appreciate ur video.
Thanks heaps!
I’m glad you found the video helpful
Hi sir.
I need to know more about the pre out connection.
Question: I have 2 AV receiver and they both have same rca jucks for pre out .
One of them says pre out and another one doesn't says pre out it says AUDIO left, right, center, subwoofer rear right rear left.
So,I don't know what to do?
😊 Or if you could make another video to show the back of both receivers connections .
Thanks 🙏
@jannahrusdi872 what is the model number of the AVR
@@Youthman 1: Integra model: DTR-30.4
2: JVC : Model: RX-7022v
3: Yamaha: model: RX-v565.
Thanks 😊
@@Youthman Hello sir.
I am still waiting for ur advice.
Thanks 🙏
The HDMI Arc/eArc out goes into the Arc/eArc HDMI in Port on the TV? Isn't that just audio when plugged into audio devices (soundbar) or does it carry the visual as well in the case of the AVR (including from legacy devices which tbh looks eminently useful)
I have the pioneer vsx lx301 but would love to upgrade to separates. That pioneer vsx lx505 looks nice though... 😉👍🏼
Thank you sir I really appreciate it
Great video showing what needs to be done clearly, not like some who like to see themselves on camera and like the sound of their voice…
Glad you found the video helpful
Very Informative
Thank you
good step by step set up. But I have an 10+ yr old Yamaha system and all the speakers incl the sub are wired. I am looking to upgrade my receiver as I finally upgraded my tv to an new Sony LED. So my questions is can I use banana plugs for the sub to connect to the receiver?
excellent video! very informative. By the way I just recently got two Tuscany luxury and one Oslo luxury ""(middle) chairs after watching your reviews. Currently looking at AV receivers and speakers to upgrade from my Sonos soundbar set up.
Thank you Julio and congrats
what's the best way to connect PC to amplifier to have best quality when playing FLACs?
My amp have optical in, so I thought maybe I could get audio card for PC with the optical out , do you think it's worth it or just mini jack out analog from PC to the amp would do without much difference?
thx Youthman!!!
Excellent presentation, well put together & explained. Sadly let down by incessant ads.
Sorry. That’s up to UA-cam on the ads.
Very helpful. Thank you so much.
Glad you found the video helpful Kody!
If you can give us some info about the mic & headphone jacks maybe not on this amplifier but some other have. Thanks for great video.
I have a pair of cerwin vega dx-7 with a pair of dx-3 sitting on top of the dx-7. I'm new to this and was wondering what inputs to use on the receiver and what formation to use in the setup up menu? I'd really appreciate some help!!!
How are you connected the individual pre outs to the extenal amp ? Surely you can only use one rca output at a time on the external amp?
Hi Youthman, thanks very much for your DIY setup instruction. Do you mind to also make another video showing how to connect a Music Streamer to an AV Receiver? Currently I connect my Music Streamer to my AV Receiver using digital optical cable but the output of the sound from the AV Receiver to my speakers is very soft and the subwoofer is not working (i.e. no sound output to subwoofer).
Hi, you mention that if you have a sub that you would plug it into the sub 1 on the back of the receiver, however you connected it to the one that has a 2 on the back. Does it matter?
No it doesn’t matter which one you use. They both output the same exact signal.
Good clear how to for someone that may not know how great job
Thank you Dane. I know there’s a lot of new guys getting into the hobby. Sometimes it’s easy for us to forget that not everyone knows the basics.
Very impressive video and a good set of knowledge for beginners like me. Thankyou so much for your video.
I’m really glad you found the video helpful
your videos
are the best... may i know which speaker wire (brand) and gauge you are using? ty
Thank you, kindly. I often use Monoprice 14 gauge, but I also have cables from Sewell - take a look here - ua-cam.com/video/R1GhvlIW2NE/v-deo.htmlsi=FplI20SkB1a60XP-
Well done my good sir.
Definitely helpful video! Please explain me how the audio from the TV will return to the HDMI eArc port. How or what option on the AVR do I have to choose to listed to the audio coming from the TV? Thanks!
This should explain it - ua-cam.com/video/_CFNbzHYNJc/v-deo.htmlsi=yLC0I-5IO_LQMGME
Not all heroes wear capes.
Thanks very informative...

Thank You so much. You always learn something!
I would like to know how to connect 2 floorstanding speakers in addition to the surround system, but only for listening to music (stereo). Where do you connect them? Because, the loudspeaker connections are already used for the cinema experience :-(
Some older 2ch receivers allowed you to connect two pair of speakers (A and B) and you could toggle one or both pair on and off. You won’t be able to do that with an AVR. If you want that, I would replace your surround speakers with towers.
@@Youthman Thanks. I have the AVC X4800H 🙈
I need some assistance. I have cable box and a Roku, should both connect through the receiver first. But, when we want to just watch news or a TV show without going through all of our speakers how would we make this connection? We’d just like to use the TV’s speakers for news programs and regular TV shows. And is it possible to set up the receiver so that when we turn on the Roku box it “triggers” the receiver to come on automatically? Our receiver is a Marantz SR5010. Thx
Thanks
Question. I'm new to the thought of even trying to build a home theater. But the timing is perfect because we are currently building a home that will have a dedicated media room. The Media Room dimensions are about 15 1/2 ft wide, and half the room depth is 19'10" and the other half is 23ft, the ceiling is vaulted from 8ft to 10ft (highest point). Would you consider this a small theater room space? Also, do you think the room is big enough to house a 150" screen projector or bigger? Thank you
Hey Jeremy, that’s exciting. Your room is more than sufficient for 150” screen. My room is 13 foot wide by 19 foot deep with 10 foot ceiling and I have a 150” diagonal screen in 2.35:1 cinescope screen. Take a look at this video ua-cam.com/video/AubrsBu-2nU/v-deo.html
@@YouthmanThank you. I will check it out
Hi Michael, I managed to get another 15inch monolith cheap because he is moving to Canada we had a good test but when I got it home I couldn't daisy chain it I am getting no signal from either of the two front one's the led stays on red flashing but I did pull out the rca cable for the sub and it flashed green for a while, if I connect it directly to the amp it works, at the back it has line one and line two,the two front subs I connect the line one to my amp and I connect line two too line one of my rear sub. I am having trouble finding the manual but found the white gloves lol
The LED’s should not flash unless there is an issue with the amp. Hopefully that isn’t the case but I would recommend contacting Monolith support.
You should be able to go from the sub out on your AVR to the Line in on one sub, then line out from that sub into Line In on the 2nd sub.
@Youthman just had a bit of sleep and while resting I went throw it in my sleep ,so will rerun it when I get back from work, if no joy then I have a b&w pv1 I shall test it out on. Thanks
Ps I am running a marantz av8805 and two yamaha mx-a5200 aventage
Great videos. I have the rack mount ears for my Onkyo TX-RZ50 ready to install in my rack. Is there a way to remove the feet from this receiver so it fits in my rack easier?
Most feet can be removed from AVR’s’s or processors. You just have to be careful if they have ventilation on the bottom.
@@Youthman Thanks for your quick reply. I decided not to attempt removing the feet. It looked like it was going to be more trouble than the extra 1U rack space it was going to provide. I'm going to install an AC Infinity cloudplate cooling unit under the Onkyo as well as one above it anyway. It was a lot easier to subscribe to your channel. Thanks again. 🙂
Hello
I have speakers from the "Elite" DVD player.
The player is broken, but I have speakers that I want to use.
It is impossible to find the same used DVD player and I don't know how to use the speakers. Is it profitable to buy an amplifier and connect the speakers that way?
The speakers are not of any quality, but they are 170w and have excellent bass. I don't know if it is more worthwhile to buy some used 5.1 systems or to personalize these somehow?
Can we use Earc and connect everything to the tv?
Question here ! I want to hookup my oldddddd receiver with surround sound to a newer projector, receiver doesn't have HDMI ports; there must be stereo cable to HDMI adapters that will work right??
Is it possible to wirelessly connect SA-RS3S as back speakers, connect SA-SW3 wirelessly, and also connect a wired center channel speaker in AN1000 Sony receiver model?
Thanks for you help👍👍👍
I’m glad you found the video helpful
I have a 6.1 receiver that I hope to use. If it's a 7.1 signal will it decode in 6.1?
I have a Pioneer Kuro TV, a Samsung DVD player and a new Denon AVR. If I connect the DVD player to the AVR via HDMI then the AVR to the TV via HDMI then the TV audio to the AVR via optical cable, do I then have to connect the TV directly to the DVD player? Or has that already been accomplished by the DVD to the AVR to the TV? I am asking because the DVD player only has one HDMI output.
Sooo if i wanna counnect soundbar to tv and a receiver (speakers) also to tv, how would i do it?, just for i can have a choice to either listen to soundbar or to receiver speakers or to both
you have some good videos but i was curious how do i connect my old graphic equalizer to these newer av receivers?
These have built in equalizers, Don't try connecting a separate equalizer or you could run into a whole host of problems
I love your videos, very informative. I am very frustrated with my home theater system. I have a Samsung short throw projector connected to a Denon AVR-S970H with 2 Klipsch tower speakers with atmos built-in on top, center speaker and 2 subs. I installed everything using your video. After the initial calibration the system played well. I then played some music from my phone via Bluetooth and from that moment I haven't been able to get sound through my speakers from my projector. I have tried everything. By the way, music plays fine. Please help. Thanks!
Unfortunately ARC and eARC can be a pain. Try going into the projector and turning off ARC. Then turn it back on and see if that resolves the issue with not getting sound from your projector to your Denon.
@Youthman I will try that and keep you posted. Thanks Youthman!
Im on a craise on learning about stuff like this, I want a homa theatre someday
You can do it!
This would be by first time setting up a surround sound system and I have started to connect my individual speakers to my audio visual receiver but my sub-woofer has inputs for cords to hook up to speakers as well. My question is should I just connect all of my individual speakers to my subwoofer and then connect my subwoofer to my audio visual receiver or should I connect all my individual speakers to my audio visual receiver and then simply connect my subwoofer to my audio visual receiver.
Connect all individual speakers to your audio visual receiver to its respective amplifer terminals and connect the subwoofer using RCA to Audio visual receiver subwoofer output.
How do I connect 2 av amplifier together using 1 as a power amp. I am planning to use 3 channels. 2 main and 1 centre. Then on the other amp what output do I choose. Will the centre still work if I choose the 2 main input
Hi, quick question if you were so kind to assist. I've purchased a pair of Klipsch R-625FA Dolby Atmos. Now, they have TWO set of connectors on the back of each. I will connect one set of each speaker to each 'Front L and Front R' of my amplifier. What about the other set of connectors of the speakers? Any input will be appreciated. Thanks!!!!!!
Not worry about the others. You need to just go into menu and set the assignment as 2ch and disable other speakers. That's all.
I really want to thank you for all this clear and pro explanations.
One question:
By connecting the video source to AV HDMI, does the receiver amplifi the video signal as well as the audio the it send it to TV??
Or it's only a bypass and any quality comes from the video source will be sent to tv by AV receiver?
HDMI carries both audio and video signal. I’m not sure what you mean by does it amplify the video signal.
@@Youthman hi,
We know av receiver improve the sound and then send it to speakers, does it also improve the video signal before sending it to TV?
There isn’t much (if any) video processing in an AVR.
What about old sub (passive subwoofer) .
The new avr only works with active sub
So, in this situation, what we will do ? 🤔
Please let us know if there is any way
Say if you had a media switcher that could connect to RGB strips behind your TV which allows them to mimic colors on your TV. Would it be possible to connect the media switcher to the AVR to still receive the full capacity of HDMI 2.1 from the media source to AVR to the switcher to the TV? Or is it like a certain path you need to use in order to get that full capacity
I have never used one personally but something like this product might be what you’re referring to www.lytmi.co/products/lytmi-fantasy-3-tv-backlight-kit?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw2PSvBhDjARIsAKc2cgOd4MFZOIzJ5JD5_NbalLxms6YfFOHFeoFvUUmgjnsIdbr_07iaEHMaAvkXEALw_wcB
@@Youthman I was actually looking at that one, I just want to make sure when I connect everything, it works perfectly
I would reach out to their support. Unfortunately I’m just not familiar with them
This is much needed. It would be nice to see the hook up of a processor.
I have a video on that - ua-cam.com/video/evYMGQyTY90/v-deo.html
@@Youthman Cool, you have it all covered.
I try. Much more to come

Hi. I have the Sony ta-an1000 but when i have connected the tv decoder to CBL/SAT but the sound out is not going to the center speaker but only to the front two speakers. I have a 5.0 speaker setup. 1 dumb questions, i just buy rx-a870 which use pre out sub, my old amp china one 2.1ch input 3.5mm jack and use passive sub, i dont have money to buy another sub so any idea how to connect rca-3.5mm directly to make do untill afford to better preamp and active sub. Thx

This is a great video! Even for someone like me who's had their system for nearly 7 years now, I still watch these video's and find more to learn.
I'd love to see a video on specific media to test specific speaker additions. For instance, when I eventually upgrade to 4 Atmos speakers. What movies should I view to test them? Or what movie makes great use of side surrounds rather than rear surrounds? Or even the LCR set? Thanks Youthman!

Quick question do I get better sound and picture quality if I plug my sources directly into the t v and then ark it out or vice versa
No improvement by doing that. Sometimes people will do that because their AVR does not support HDMI 2.1.
Ty bro appreciate the quick response
Glad I could help.
I have onkyo HT R590 and have installed in my store but i want to connect to my tablet or my mobile to listen to the music can you help me pls 🙏🏼
I know I probably won't get an answer, but I have rear in ceiling speakers for dobly atmos so what settings on my receiver do I set to activate those speakers? Atmos enable or height speakers?
Hi James, which AVR do you have? Typically Atmos enabled is referring to up firing speakers that you place on top of your front left and front right speakers to bounce the sound off your ceiling and back down to your listening position.
If you have a Denon or Marantz, under Speakers > Manual Setup > Speaker Layout, change Height Speakers to Yes and then choose Top Front etc.
The diagram will show you a visual representation of where those speakers would be placed in the room.
Let me know if that helps.
@@Youthman I got the new Pioneer VSX-535 5.2. My rear surround sound is set to height for my rear in-ceiling speakers and my front in-ceiling speakers are on the front height channel set to height. I believe that's a 3.2.2 setup. Now I know I don't have any rear surround sound ear level speakers, but the virtualization on the unit does a good job at imitating them. I just want to make sure that my in-ceiling speakers are getting the Atmos channels.
When you check your levels in your AVR you will hear what channels it’s utilizing.

I was hoping you’d explain how to set up ARC. I have an ARC TV connected to the ARC HDMI but it’s not working, even though I enabled it in the settings in accordance with Denon’s instructions.
There isn't too much to setting up ARC. 1) Both your AVR and TV must have ARC or eARC HDMI ports. 2) Connect an HDMI cable to those two ARC / eARC ports. 3) In your TV's audio settings, enable ARC. 4) I fyou have a Denon or Marantz, go into your Video settings and make sure ARC is enabled. Let me know if that helps.
@@Youthman thanks for the reply ❤️
Unfortunately, I did that already but it’s not working. I’ve been using this exact setup with ARC for a long time so I know everything but that is working fine. 😢
The TV is behaving as if it sees the ARC AVR and is sending the audio there. But I hear nothing. The AVR has HDMI control And TV audio switching turned on.
Thank you for the info

Just bought a Pioneer VSX-935 7.2 Channel 8K Ultra HD Network AV Receiver. I follow your video on how to connect the speaker wires with 5.1 configuration. During the sound test, all speakers (Front, Surround, and Sub) passed, except the Center speaker, with no sound at all. Can you help? Do you know what is the cause?
See if this walkthrough helps. ua-cam.com/video/yspMuw_PX0s/v-deo.htmlsi=rt134bcnscHs7oOc
Make sure you have center channel enabled and connected.
Dear I have a Yamaha DSP-AX530 AV amplifier. I have a problem that relates to sound coming from center speaker. I hear center speaker sound in both front left and right main speakers even when I detach center speaker from the amplifier. The center speaker slot gives sound anyway in both main speakers. Is it a problem or it is the way it sounds. Me from Pakistan. Thanks.
Can you hook this up on a computer ?
Can I connect a Cassette Deck or an Equalizer?
