For those who don't have much time... 1.Sourdough is one of the best due to fermentation 2. Pumpernickel is just as good as sourdough plus is high in fiber 3. Ezekiel or "sprouted" breads rather than flour breads 4. Flax and Chia - but watch the carb/fat content 5. Other low-carb, keto breads - brands like Sola, SaraLee Delightful Multigrain, Aunt Millies Live Carb Smart, Joseph's Lavash (flat, wrap, pita) Bread, and lastly Kiss My Keto. Some of these are available in stores but mostly online. Also, as a diabetic I've found that Rye bread and other Rye derivatives (marble Rye, Jewish Rye, seeded and seedless Rye) also have lower net carbs and higher fiber content than standard breads, but he didn't mention these. *NO WHITE BREAD OR BAGELS You're welcome!
I'm a diabetic and just last week had a heart attack had to undergo 2 stents crashed 3 times in the ER. By God's loving mercy and grace I'm here today. I'm now no longer a smoker and I'm taking my health seriously. I hope that none of you have to go through what I have. Please remember that you are important and loved take care of yourself. Merry Christmas to everyone and be thankful for each and every day.
Been through that Donna but not the crashes. 2 stents and a balloon 6 weeks later, and 8 days hospital. Amazed at the efficiency and skills of the consultant doing the stents. Did the cardiac gym sessions following and am continuing gym and bike work. Need to keep fit as well as diet. Good luck with your rehab and continued work.
@@CarolynAitken-yp2rq LOL! Thanks for the classic Christian EXCUSE to give your imaginary "god" credit. No, it was all human doctors that did it. What about people hundreds of years ago that died because humans hadn't yet developed the knowledge and technology to do this? Your "god" didn't help THEM. I guess, your "god" just said "screw those people"!
18 BC? The Egyptians were very skilled at making beer and bread in 3000 BC. It's the foam off of fermenting beer that was the yeast source for bread in Bible times. Sourdough was and is made from a starter. Casting out the leaven was a good way of cleaning up old and maybe bad toxic fermentations, aka spring cleaning.
I am type 2. Sugars are in the 200 range and that is with meds, Metformin and Novalog fast acting insulin. Admit I do not eat right all the time. This will be my resolution for 2023. I love bread!
I am a type 2 diabetic and found a high protein bread at Aldi, it is put out frozen and I keep in refrigerator. KETO Certified, 3 gm fiber, 10 gm of protein per slice. 100 calories. Named Loven Fresh. I am a bread lover and only eat 2 slices a day. My blood sugar actually goes lower after eating.
@@robbob4872 I appreciate your advice but I had a A1C of 12 when first diagnosed almost 10 years ago. It's now below a 6 with no medication. This bread is fine to eat.
@@marymiller2398 you should be able to get it from your local grocery store. I get mine at my local Safeway or Harris Teeter. You can Google where to find the bread near you and it should show you a list of stores that have it near you. The bread is delicious and healthy. I've also lost 180 lbs and this bread was a part of my diet
TRULY GRATEFUL for your willingness to address healthy breads. So tired of everyone saying all grains are bad. I am pre-diabetic and I grind my own bread and eat in moderation; I soak my grains before making the bread to ferment it; I grind beans and lentils too, and mix it in w/ pizza dough and pancake recipes. Also freeze my bread after cooking to increase resistive starches. There are ways to work some grain into your life with moderation.
When I was first diagnosed with diabetes, I went through a lot of different breads and found that the only bread that didn't spike my glucose was Natures Own Honey Wheat. I also found that the cheap brand wheat breads are usually just white bread with caramel coloring and will make you spike quickly. Now I know everyones system works different and this is just my experience. As for thr bread you've recomended, I live in Northwest Florida, and havent seen those particular bread brands.
I use Aldi's Protein Bread which had 7g of carbs per slice but 4g of fiber. While it is made with wheat flour it is also made with flax and sunflower seeds. (I keep it in the fridge.)
Thanks for this video! I have had Diabetes 2 for over 20 years and bread is my #1 food that I love and am not supposed to have. Now I know where to look. Thanks again. Diabetes2 is a hard thing to have to live with, especially in this fast-paced world full of all kinds of delicious breads and other goodies.
The Finnish Rye Bread is amazing. It does not affect at all my blood sugar level. I was diagnosed with diabetes after I started baking UA-cam recipes. For a person who never baked anything I felt like a chef. Unfortunately the sudden increase in my intake of flour and sugar pushed my blood sugar over the limit. I am now able to control my blood sugar level with NO MEDICATION just by changing my diet and lifestyle. NO MORE PASTA OR RICE or any other type of carbs. I eat a lot of beans, chickpeas, lentils, salad and sometime fish. I have 2 secret ingredients that helped me to fight diabetes without any medication: ALMONDS & FINNISH REAL RYE BREAD. Not all rye breads are real. I also walk 1 hour a day and that effects my blood sugar by 2 points. Instead of 5.7 I will go down to 4.6. You can eat extremely well without touching to flour and sugar. I sometime have a craving for a good croissant but I can survive without it.
The best bread for a diabetic is “no bread” when I’m desperate for bread then I will bake with almond / coconut flour with a pinch of Stevia. All breads made of wheat and sugar are not suitable and best avoided, any wheat derivatives, rice, pasta and all refined carbs are detrimental to diabetics. These healthy alternatives are too expensive, not tasty and difficult to find in UK supermarkets. Thanks for sharing Doc!
These breads are ridiculously overpriced on Amazon: $10 per loaf for Kiss My Keto; over $9 a loaf for Sola; and $5.40 for 4 slices of Joseph's Lavash. No thank you. If I'm really craving bread, I make a few muffins using almond flour and egg, or make a couple of chaffles (cheese and egg mixture in a waffle maker). I'm diabetic, which I control solely with diet and exercise, so I've pretty much lost my taste for wheat. The chaffles and almond flour bread are nice substitutes.
phew! Finally some common sense for diabetics! There are now many keto bread options. I make 6 slices of bread with almond flour/butter/egg, 90 seconds in the micro. No BG rise. 1 T butter melted 1 egg 3 T almond flour or 1 T coconut flour 1/2 t baking powder (any spices you want - garlic bread, yummy!) This makes 1 square in a 5 inch glass dish. Then you can slice it horizontally for 2 slices. mix dry ingredients in separate dish first. grease your baking dish. thoroughly scramble the egg before adding to dry ingredients.
@@sigalsmadar4547 This is essentially te same recipe I use. I put it in a muffin tin and bake it, or put it in the microwave ans slice it. It's a good base recipe, and you can make it sweet or savory.
I’m on a ketogenic diet and was pre diabetic last year ( was A1C of 6.1 , now 5.5 ) I really miss enjoying good bread , I found I can have about 100grams of carbs and not be knocked out of ketosis, I’ve recently been enjoying Dave’s 21 whole grain bread for a peanut butter and sugar free jam and this has made my belly happy. This keto life has completely reversed all my bad numbers and I want to continue with what works and be healthy. Thank you for your advice on bread I can enjoy.😁✌️
@@anaescamilla1664 yes it goes up a bit however cholesterol is very important to the process of the body converting fat to ketones for energy. It’s a fascinating study .
@@tonyapurvis2683 keto is short for your body going into a state of “ ketosis “ where your cells switch from burning glucose for energy to burning fat to produce ketones for energy. This process is a forced process requiring a no sugar , very low carbohydrate and high natural fat diet along with intermittent fasting. The intermittent fasting is what really works the magic and the high fat diet gives you the cell energy to handle it. A keto diet isn’t fun but for a person that needs this kind of health reversal it can save your life as in my case I believe it has. Search UA-cam for related videos and watch a bunch and take notes. Information is power and is key to success. “Dr Berg “ , “ Dr Ekberg “ along with “Lowcarb down under “ have been a blessing in helping me understand how this works and how my body works, they make complicated stuff easy to understand. Just getting away from sugar, processed foods and all oils except olive oil, coconut oil and avocado oil along with intermittent fasting, These alone can make huge improvements in your health . The biggest challenge of a keto diet is staying in that state of “ ketosis “ , eat too many carbohydrates or sugar and your body tries to switch back causing headaches ( like a hangover) and crappy feeling. But while in ketosis your body and mind run so well and no sugar highs n lows at all , just a steady flow of energy. I hope this helps or at least encourages you to seek more information as I did and continue to do. 😁
Another option is baking bread, which carbs and fiber can be controlled based on the flour used. I love sourdough bread but still have to be careful with the commercial ones. Some are very high in carbs. I found a bread at Aldi's. Simply Nature "Knock your sprouts off." 13 g carbs, 2g fiber, 9 g protein, dairy, egg free and reduced sodium. One of the best options for me has always been flat breads. I found roti at an Indian market-2 pieces is 15 carbs but I only use 1. Also a tortilla at Trader Joe's called Carb Saavy which has 9 Carbs for 1.
Prior to watching this video, my husband was searching for bread options that would fit into a doctor-guided diet to lose weight (and help his diabetes). We live in an area with a shortage of healthier and trendy foods. In searching for store bought bread with low net carbs, my spouse first found tortillas that had labels advertising a lower carb value (I have none at hand to provide the numbers); some of them have whole wheat versions, which we find tastier. The brands vary and so do the numbers, but they fit his diet recommendation: Mission, La Banderita (and another label made by the same company), and Tumaro's. They worked well for wraps, and we even eat them as an accompaniment to other meals. I found I can lightly toast a tortilla in a skillet with a swipe of oil. In the fluffier conventional breads, so far we found Arnold Superior Keto bread. It has 11g total carbs and 8g dietary fiber, per slice. It tastes rather neutral. It toasts in a conventional toaster, but slowly due to 0g total sugars (let's all remember 0g per serving does not mean none).
My Husband have diabetes. We live in the Middle East the bread that we use at home to help with his diabetes is Al Reef Pita Wraps. This brand is one of the best in the Middle East it comes with Multiple Versions (Flax Seed, Almonds, Chia) and it has been the answer to our Bread problem 💪🏻👍🏻
Bread is my KRYPTONITE!!! I can give up white bread but very hard to stop bread altogether So I'm happy to see I can still have bread. Thanks for the list of breads!!

I am not diabetic, but have adopted a balanced lifestyle 2 years ago. The Joseph’s bread is my favorite to keep a great balance on starches and fiber while - surprisingly being low in calories. And it tastes great. I use Josephs pita as a bread option with my meals and also as a pie crust when I make a homemade pizza (add pizza sauce, mozz cheese, cooked ham). I bought the lavash bread a few days ago and going to make a pita roll of sorts for breakfast!
I'm prediabetic & recently found your channel. Often times, I become anxious after watching videos on what to eat regarding my health. I find that you are easy to follow! I don't like sourdough or pumpernickel bread. Thank you so much for recommending other alternatives!! 😄
I’m a sourdough hobby baker. I’ve heard that most sourdough in grocery stores is not fermented. It’s made with commercial yeast plus a sourdough flavoring agent of some kind. If the ingredient list includes yeast, it’s probably not real fermented sourdough. I have not done research to confirm this, but it sounds quite plausible.
I have learned to bake my own Almond Flour bread at home. It is really good and has only 12 net carbs in a whole loaf of bread. It's much easier to make and there are many recipes on YT! I love it for sandwiches and toast. Finally I can have eggs, bacon and bread for breakfast again on my Keto plan and a sandwich for lunch! YAY. Don't give up, we can do it!!!
Very informative, Dr. Ergin!! I am diabetic & I love bread, especially homemade bread!!! But, searched around & few years later, decided to try the Ezekiel bread which says it does not use flour & flour is high carb!! I found a difference in my blood sugars!!
I love Ezekiel, I love it in the morning toasted and with Irish butter. It does have to be refrigerated and you will only find it in the freezer at the supermarket.
I am not diabetic yet. Strong family history, overweight with increasing signs of insulin resistance on the cusp of prediabetes. One suggestion that I learned from weight watchers years ago - I always carry a container when I eat out for portion control. I take a lot of food home to eat for 2-3 more meals. I put it in a container before I eat = stops mindless eating. I am learning a lot from you. I ordered the ADA low Carbohydrate guide. Jeanne retired RN
These breads are good . My parents would buy these breads when I was young . I'm digging in the crates now . I'm working to lower my A1C from 7.8 to a 6 or 5 by 45 days if not sooner 👍
Excellent video for novice like me who is trying to be DIY health treatment I am a type 2 diabetic I am trying to control my blood sugar level with diet and supplement, i have been using millet it did help control sugar spikes , like your suggestion i will be using sourdough bread.this is the second time i watch your video, now i will be watching 4 to 5 times a weak to learn all nitty gritty about diabetic .
I’ve been loving the SaraLee Delightful 45 multigrain bread for a couple years. I’m so glad that it’s on your “good for you” list! Thanks for this information.

Thanks. I stopped using bread. I make my sandwich with a lettuce wrap, which is quite good. Or I just cook meat and eat it plain, or meat chopped up and made into a salad to be eaten that way. I do miss bread with pinto beans as I love to dip it in the bean juice. My husband is a former cook and he has experimented with dishes like taco/burrito meats that he has changed ingredients to very low or no carb substitutes. They taste good. Left overs are good heated and made into a sandwich but alas I can now only do this now as a sandwich. Since he does almost all the shopping now I will have him watch this video. He has a constant complaint that I do not eat well. I tell him I am fine but he looks at what is in my child sized bowl and what I often leave, adjusting portions all the time, and thinks I'm starving. He was recently happy when he crushed chicharrones, added a bit of almond flour, and breaded fish with it and cooked it in olive oil. It was delicious. Now he said he will use this for chicken strips. I do have to make him understand that I refuse to undo all the work I have done in losing weight. I just hit a weight of 128.8, a BMI of just under 25. Best weight would be 108. I am under 5'2". Husband said I am disappearing. It's what I need to hear. Thanks again.
WOW !!! I NEED THIS CHANNEL IN MY LIFE...MY DIABETIC WORLD. I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes back in 2012. I struggle with eating and food. I will be watching these videos on this channel to gain my health and life back. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH DR SUGAR MD !!!!
Doc I am a type 2 diabetic which I have been eating Natures Own whole wheat bread since 2014 as that time I became diabetic. This bread has 60 calories per slice, also, it has 12 grams of carbs with 2 grams of fiber. Clearly, it does not contain high frutcose corn syrup. So far this is the best bread I have eaten and no other breads come close😊😊😊
It sounds like you're enjoying Nature’s Own whole wheat bread as a good option for managing type 2 diabetes. That bread’s low calorie count, fiber content, and lack of high fructose corn syrup make it a great choice for many looking to maintain balanced blood sugar levels. Thank you for sharing your experience! Keep enjoying your journey with healthy eating and managing your condition. If you have any other questions about food choices or diabetes, feel free to reach out! 😊
You are one of the best medical presenters on the internet! This list of breads came with very thorough research and the most important details we need to know. I think this is the best health video I’ve seen on this topic. So easy to watch as well! Outstanding! 👍
Have you looked at the prices for these breads yet? I can't afford them. And diabetics are supposed to watch ALL carbs not just net carbs. Nets carbs is no longer a thing.
@@getin3949 Yes, price is a serious issue and the profiteering from people with chronic diseases is rather despicable. Still, even these breads may help avoid expensive medication.
I am in the U.K. and I have made my own bread for the last thirty five years or so. I use organic wholemeal ( wholegrain) and rye flour with a small quantity of organic white flour.
I found a lot of these breads mentioned being sold at Meijer. So if you have a Meijer store near you they have a lot of them. A couple in the freezer too.
Dave's Killer Bread works for me. Non-GMO and no potassium bromate. It's a very hearty whole grain bread. It's also a heavy bread with whole grain and seeds. Tastes great 👍. I still limit all breads. Maybe 1 loaf per month.
I love your channel and I'm not even diabetic but my husband is.. You are very approachable and your videos are so informative. I want more people find your channel to learn what we should all know to prevent or treat it!
This guy speaks so much commonsense!! I've seen many you tube doctors. Some I'm not quite sure are an actual Doctor !! I like your approach to health in general.
I’ve eliminated “bread” completely. Low carb wraps and on Sunday date morning with the wife a garlic bagel. 14u of insulin covers it nicely. Keeping my carbs to 20-30g most days in total. Last A1c…5.3, on insulin.
I am type II diabetic. I bake my own bread, pita bread without any additives, same dough as the Lavash bread, which I also make. I eat as much as my desire asks for and have no issues that contribute negatively on my diabetes.
I miss my bread life. I lost all my weight on Keto 3 years ago, giving it up. Even keto breads make me gain weight! I've never tried the store bought kind, only made my own with coconut flour or almond flour ( both I hate the taste of). Occasionally I'll have a cheat day & on holidays & I look forward to BREAD! Food is a serious drug. Although I lost over a hundred pounds, I still struggle daily to keep myself honest.
I keep my bread in the freezer, rewrapped in 4 slices each back in the loaf container, Which will last me 2 or 3 days when taken out and kept at room temp. When bread is kept in the refrigerator it becomes hard as a board. The freezer maintains its moisture and is just like fresh.
We recently found Extraordinary Bites bread at walmart in the freezer section. The sandwich bread is 1 carb (30 calories) a slice! They also have hamburger buns and hawaiian rolls. And they taste amazing :) Great option if you want bread but want to keep your carbs down.
Thank you Dr. very much for your videos I have given up bread for 2 1/2 weeks it is very difficult but I’m dying to try the keto bread with zero carbs thank you and God bless all that you do😇
After watching a few of your UA-cam , I have more knowledge regarding to how to eat properly food for Diabetic. Thankful for your time creating this channel . It really help people to control and watching for their carbohydrate and portion.
I have been buying Healthy Life bread with 0 net carbs. They have white, Hawaiian and cinnamon swirl. Honestly very tasty...and I am very picky. They are at my local grocery store. I'm have T2DM. My blood sugars don't spike with this bread like it does with regular bread.
I make homemade Golden flaxseed, oat fiber, no flours , no almond flours. And this is the very best keto bread I have ever eaten. It’s called Dredre’s low carb bread. It’s perfect. It’s in Dedre’s Kitchen
I've baked my own bread for over 5 decades now. I eventually bought a vita-mix to grind my own grains, nuts and seeds for baking bread. I've experimented with lots of different grains, from organic wheat berries to oats, rice, barley, rye, etc., lots of different nuts and seeds and plenty of other additives like dry whey protein, wheat bran, flax, dried milk, dried and powdered vegetables and even cooked and mashed beans. Bread is easy to make and doesn't take very long. Sourdough is the easiest, it just takes a few minutes a day until it's finally baked. My favorite part is being able to use ingredients to make it as healthy or decadent as I want.

This is fascinating, I'm in the UK and on occasions I have wholemeal rye bread. It's not a soft spongy bread, rather solid and heavy but I like it, you can toast it and it's so healthy. It contains whole rye grains, wholemeal rye flour, water, salt, oat fibre and yeast and is carb/ fibre ratio of 10/2.5 so 1 thin slice is filling. I get this at Aldi and wondered if you have similar in the US
I found a bread from Thin Slim Foods that has 'zero net carbs'. One slice is so hearty and not gummy. It did not spike my blood sugar at all. And it tasted pleasant and toasted nicely.
I make flourless bread from Red lentils, or Tahini, and also Buckwheat. I am not bloated anymore, plus stopped my Diabetes Meds.(But of course, that is also from cutting out all Sugars, and everything else that Diabetics should not eat)
I already buy 1st Carb Smart bread bad thing it's about 7 dollar's a loaf but there is white, wheat, and 5 seed and all three are very good. Thank you for your videos. God bless
Oroweat has been making bread for a long time, and they now have a Keto line of white bread, hamburger and hotdog buns, low carb "flats" and new "seeded" breads. Their breads are so 'normal' to white bread that they are amazing.
hi Dr. Ah met I have been eating this organic bread from Publix its called Greenwise Veggie and fruit bread. 1 slice has 150 calories pumpkin seeds and flax. 16 grams of carbs. You must freeze it. 8 grams of fat protein 6 grams.
Having had surgery for bowel cancer and now have a stoma, I was told by my Stoma Nurse to eat bread at the start of the day to keep the product from the stoma the right consistency (sorry if this sounds gross, but it is what I live with). I was diabetic before the surgery and pointed this out to the nurse and was told I really needed to eat some bread. I struggled with my blood sugar post operation, I was told that this was normal for such a trauma, but the struggle lasted several years. I am now able to control my blood sugars within a reasonable range and manage to eat sourdough bread in the morning without too much of a spike. I am not sure if this is the experience of other diabetics with stoma’s, it is a struggle and would be interesting to hear other people’s experience.
I had my colon removed and had a stomach as well. I was told to use Metamucil for a firmer consistency. I have since had the procedure reversed. I sometimes think I made a mistake….
@@Hollyrock712 Thank you for that information, I will discuss it with my Stoma Nurse. I have not had a great deal of input from them, probably because I haven’t reported any problems over the last six years since my surgery. Unfortunately I can’t have a reversal as the whole works, from the small intestine to the anus, was removed. It’s a balancing act all the time and I seem to do a lot of testing to keep a check on my blood sugar (sore fingers!). I have lost weight and gotten an exercise bike, so I can hopefully keep the levels constant.
@@Spacewolfdad I’m sorry your going through all this. It’s very discouraging, I know. As far as me having it reversed, it seemed like a good idea at the time. Unfortunately, the problem is now if I eat something, I have to make a BM right after. So this makes it very difficult for me travel a long distance in my car , or if I’m riding my bike. I have adjusted to it by changing my eating habits. You might want to try the Atkins diet. It’s a low sugar, and low carb diet. Good luck. Jie
Lactic acid is in Sourdoughs from the lactobacilli that works in partnership with the yeast. Cider vinegar has Acetic acid, created by the acetobacter vinegar “mother” which metabolized the alcohol from fermented ( hard) cider. As a “doctor”. So glad to see this video. Im a brittle diabetic and it doesn't take much to make blood sugar spike. Im trying to get back under 6. I was up to 7.5 and soak up this helpful info to reach my goal! TY
Schmidt 647 / Old Tyne breads. Per slice: 14 g carbs. 8 g fiber. Less than 1 g sugar. Toasts like “normal” bread. They also make buns for burgers and hotdogs.
Dr. Ahmed, my friend, you are the best. Love 💘 your videos! They are very informative 👍 and you always have different topics about what to do to stay healthy as a type 2 diabetic. Hats off to you!
Thank you so much for this info on breads.. My husband likes sandwiches for lunch and is diabetic.. So many bread choices.. This helps us a lot., I am diabetic also… Any carbs at all make my blood sugar rise.. Then I am breaking out in horrible sweats..
My other favorite bread (though I haven't seen it recently) is Alvarado Bakery Sprouted Flaxseed Bread. I really miss it. The loaf is smaller and keeps well in the fridge.
I'm a T2 diabetic and I also suffer from diverticulitis. I found out the hard way that the diets for these two illnesses clash. They are opposites. So, I just gave up seeds, nuts, skins and pulp. But I eat wheat bread, protein, skinless fruits and vegetables. I've even lost some weight. 😁
Thankyou for your great advice for diabetics, much appreciated. You might be surprised at this info, in Australia Ezekiel bread is only at health food stores in freezer BUT is $12.50 a Loaf! 😬 All the breads you mention, such as Sara Lee, are in America and not Australia 😢 Will search for low carb breads here. 🤗
I'm glad I watched the episode. I do love my bread, but my diabetes makes it difficult even checking labels. You presented some excellent options. I'm going to try to get a decent pumpernickel and a sourdough. I normally buy Nature's Own whole wheat bread at 13 grams of carbs per slice to at least enjoy a sandwich or toast with breakfast.
I have been trying to find lower carb breads and wraps also and have found these ones La Banderita carb counter tortillas 10 inch = 5 net carbs. Brownberry superior keto = 3 net carb Brownberry also makes a hotdog and burger buns with low carbs.
I'm pre-diabetic and am following a diabetic diet. I was happy to hear my bread of choice (ezikial) was on your list. Also I recently bought sourdough just for a change up. Which I also was happy to hear is on your list.
Inked keto seeds bread only has 11 carbs & 10 fiber to equal 1 net carb per slice & very tasty. Also Oasis sprouted wheat low carb flax seed bread. Tasty & 6 net carbs per slice
A couple weeks ago I discovered Orowheat Keto Bread at my supermarket. It has 11 g carbs, but 8 g fiber, so 3 g net per slice. It looks like white bread. I'm halfway through my second loaf. It works good for sandwiches and hamburgers.
I have been eating Dave’s organic thin sliced 21 whole grains and seeds it is delicious! 13g and 2 g total sugars 3g 70 calories per slice~ I roast it with peanut butter and sugar free grape jelly! ❤️
Also new to diabetes late in life, I love bread All types. Baguettes, croissants, biscuits, roles, soft pretzels...I love them all! I do enjoy a sandwich made with white bread. What I have found is that all these low carb breads that are specifically made for low net carbs are super tiny! A slice of these breads are perhaps 2/3rds of what a normal slice of Wonderbread or similar white bread would be! And then, the net carbs really aren't all that great! I mean, 18 grams of carbs for a sandwich is still a bit much. What I have found at my local grocery store is Schmidt OldTyme 647 bread. It's a white bread with 6g of net carbs, 40 calories and 7 g of fiber! They make this in a White and Italian with the exact specs! And the slices are huge compared to those keto breads. Now I can have a PB&J (no sugar added PB and sugar free J) or a BLT, or just simple melted Irish butter on toast and not lose any of the things that makes white bread great!
For those who don't have much time...
1.Sourdough is one of the best due to fermentation
2. Pumpernickel is just as good as sourdough plus is high in fiber
3. Ezekiel or "sprouted" breads rather than flour breads
4. Flax and Chia - but watch the carb/fat content
*NO WHITE BREAD OR BAGELS
You're welcome!

I'm a diabetic & I found this bread called 647 bread. It only has 6 net carbs & it tast just like regular bread & they have different variations
You are not supposed to count net carbs when diabetic - that bread will spike your glucose just like regular bread..
@@robbob4872 I appreciate your advice but I had a A1C of 12 when first diagnosed almost 10 years ago. It's now below a 6 with no medication. This bread is fine to eat.
Where do you get this bread?
@@marymiller2398 you should be able to get it from your local grocery store. I get mine at my local Safeway or Harris Teeter.
@@straightopoint a way aww
Can you please tell me how you make your bread? I really am interested in making my own healthy bread also 🥰
When I was first diagnosed with diabetes, I went through a lot of different breads and found that the only bread that didn't spike my glucose was Natures Own Honey Wheat.

No bread is made of wheat and sugar. Flour, yeast and oil.

No BG rise.
1 T butter melted
1 egg
3 T almond flour or 1 T coconut flour
1/2 t baking powder
(any spices you want - garlic bread, yummy!)
This makes 1 square in a 5 inch glass dish. Then you can slice it horizontally for 2 slices.
mix dry ingredients in separate dish first.
grease your baking dish.
thoroughly scramble the egg before adding to dry ingredients.

Hello i have a question, on that ketogenic diet does your cholesterol goes up??
@@anaescamilla1664 yes it goes up a bit however cholesterol is very important to the process of the body converting fat to ketones for energy.
It’s a fascinating study .
I would like to try Keto but don’t know how to go about it
@@tonyapurvis2683 keto is short for your body going into a state of “ ketosis “ where your cells switch from burning glucose for energy to burning fat to produce ketones for energy.
Just getting away from sugar, processed foods and all oils except olive oil, coconut oil and avocado oil along with intermittent fasting,
These alone can make huge improvements in your health .
😁
I just bought the Dave’s killer bread, power seed bread. I noticed it has less carbs than the other Dave’s killer breads
Great. Thank you for sharing.
When you go cold turkey with bread, even a slice of toast is more tempting than the most addictive drug.

Good luck.

Lactic acid is in Sourdoughs from the lactobacilli that works in partnership with the yeast. Cider vinegar has Acetic acid, created by the acetobacter vinegar “mother” which metabolized the alcohol from fermented ( hard) cider. As a “doctor”. I am astounded at your equating the two very different acids. Makes me question the rest of your :facts”.
Aldi's has a zero net carb bread and a 4 net carb flat bread. Walmart also has a 4 net carb flat bread. Both are good.
Thanks for sharing!
Found out yesterday I'm prediabetes also found your channel yesterday and it has helped a lot. So you're saying Ry bread and sour dough bread is good for us? Your channel has helped me more than my own Doctor
Thank you so much for creating this video I have found another bread on the market that beats out the Sara Lee 45 bread and can be found at your local grocery store it's 647 old tyme bread 40 calories 6g net carbs per slice and 12g net carbs for 2 slices and 7g of fiber per slice
Thank you for this input!
What is name of bread you found?
@Marcie Maxwell could you please share the name of the bread? Thanks in advance.
@@Leah-mk9nr the name is Schmidt Old Time 647 bread it comes in Italian. Wheat and white I buy it at Wegmans grocery store and also Walmart
@@marciemaxwell8796 thank you so much! I will look for it. 😉 Happy holidays! 🎄
So glad to see this video. Im a brittle diabetic and it doesn't take much to make blood sugar spike. Im trying to get back under 6. I was up to 7.5 and soak up this helpful info to reach my goal! TY
You're welcome. Appreciate it. Keep watching our videos and don't forget to share them with your family and friends.
I love Ezekiel bread! I keep it in the freezer and use what I need at a time. I love pumpernickel and spur dough too especially toasted with guacamole
Thank you for the support, much appreciated. Stay tuned for more videos!
Thank you 🙏🏽 DR 👨🏽⚕️ as a diabetic person I love to eat bagel 🥯most time,I’m going to try Sara Lee bread as of now .
There are some great protein breads and wraps. Tough part is finding stuff without vegetable oil.
DOC . . . YOU ~ ROCK ! !
13 gr per slice is high in carbohydrates
Not when you only have the 1 sandwich. I'm allowed 60 grams of carbs per meal, so I keep my intake down to between 45 - 50 grams

When people say “my” in front of the food, like “my bread”, it is a sign of food addiction.

The ADA diet is high carb, period.
The best info about bread and I am sure millions appreciate your expertise. Good info Doc.
I love the sesame Ezekiel bread.
Agree!
What about those brown breads with the seeds on them. They taste and look healthy 🙏🏼thanks
What about Rye I usually eat that for such a long time one of my favorite 🤩 Merry Christmas
@@siry5164 I think it's petridge farm that has the thin sliced. It's like having one slice per sandwich.
I have been trying to find lower carb breads and wraps also and have found these ones
La Banderita carb counter tortillas 10 inch = 5 net carbs.
Brownberry superior keto = 3 net carb
Brownberry also makes a hotdog and burger buns with low carbs.
I'm pre-diabetic and am following a diabetic diet. I was happy to hear my bread of choice (ezikial) was on your list. Also I recently bought sourdough just for a change up. Which I also was happy to hear is on your list.
Thanks for watching and commenting. We appreciate you. Please also consider sharing this content on social media.
Hey :) has your doctor seen any improvement since they mentioned you were pre -diabetic ?
What about Oats bread
@@vijayzaveri3777 Oatmeal bread spikes my husbands blood sugar very high.
Great info. Thanks for sharing. Appreciate it! Check out this 7-day breakfast plan for diabetics: ua-cam.com/video/_p_LkeCTyPQ/v-deo.html
i buy store brand 100% whole wheat bread and only eat one slice and trim off the crust and you have low carbs.
I have been eating Dave’s organic thin sliced 21 whole grains and seeds it is delicious! 13g and 2 g total sugars 3g 70 calories per slice~ I roast it with peanut butter and sugar free grape jelly! ❤️
Delicious!
Yes, I eat Dave’s Killer Bread, also. Very good.
