If you notice the morning glucose spike on this video's thumbnail, that had an interesting cause. I was pulling on a t-shirt as I was walking out of my bedroom and hit my elbow on the doorframe hard enough to leave a mark. It definitely rated a 9 out of 10 on the pain scale and per the Levels software for my continuous glucose monitor, I had a 36 mg/dL spike in my glucose. Wild stuff... Also, the reason I do these glucose tests on some videos (even though I'm not diabetic) is that I feel that these tests are still relevant. First, if a product spikes my glucose as a non-diabetic, I think it would be concerning to a diabetic. Second, maintaining a level blood glucose is important to metabolic health whether your diabetic or not.
@@redbirdacreswi The continuous meter collects measurements continuously. I've discovered, though, that I peak at around one hour, so I validate the measurement with a blood glucose monitor to show that (for people who want to test themselves but don't want the expense of a continuous glucose monitor).

@@suziegrandma I believe you are right. I am happy I don't have to give up my bread because that is the one thing I find hard to give up. Sugar, potatoes & pasta I gave up or found comparable substitutes.
I eat 5 slices of the zero carb Lewis bread daily. I've been on Keto for 5 months, and so far I've lost 48 lbs. I'm not diabetic, but I started my journey at 307 lbs. So, I was pre-diabetic. My new doctor did my blood-work and said my sugar is "normal", and my cholesterol is "good". (This was right around Valentine's Day). I think it depends on the person as to how one's body reacts. I admit I use it as a crutch. But, when I started Keto on August 30, 2021, I had someone drop me off in front of whatever store I needed to shop in. If there weren't any electronic shopping carts, I'd call them to come and pick me back up. Now, I drive myself to the store. I never use an electronic cart, and I walk all over the store without needing a rest break.
Thanks for taking the time to compare these breads. I eat the low carb bread from Sola and while it might not feel/taste like Wonder Bread, it serves it purpose of being bookends to what I have in the middle. 😁
Just wanted to let everyone know that if you haven't ordered from ChipMonk Baking before, do it! I just placed an order a little while ago and David, I believe he's the CEO, actually sent me a personalized video thanking me for making the purchase. I thought that was so cool and thoughtful. No other company has ever done that before. I have gotten handwritten thank you notes, but never a personal thank you video.
While I do not monitor my glucose I definitely steer clear of most every kind of bread on the market. The only kind of bread so to speak that I eat are cauliflower rounds from Trader Joe's. Anything with wheat or soy is inflammatory and I Don't Go near it. This video was awesome and just backs up my feelings about it. My body has instant inflammation with any kind of wheat or soy! Thank you so much for this.
I'm Type II with a typical A1c of 6-6.5 and tested two slices of the Healthy Life white bread last year. I got a 50-60 pt spike... confirming once again my theory that "resistant starch" is total woo-woo.
I am with you in that I preferred darker breads such as wheat, rye, pumpernickel, etc. when I ate bread (over 5 years ago). My downfall on the bread was the Hawaiian rolls and homemade bread (I used to be very good at baking bread). I keep some commercial keto bread in the freezer in case I have a craving, that doesn't happen too often. Your testing is very informative and definitely helps me make decisions on bread products.
It always surprises me when something that is supposed to be keto-friendly has wheat as one of the first ingredients. I eat low-carb because I have an allergy to all starches. I would not be able to touch the breads you reviewed. That being said, thank you for reviewing them because now I know not to waste my money on them. :)
This is why I don’t buy anything labeled keto. Many businesses will jump in the trend for profit and care nothing about integrity. Your best bet is to eat whole unprocessed foods that are keto
One of the first things I do, since finding out about my food allergies (wheat being the main one and a big cause of inflammation for me) is checking ingredients...never fooled by the hype on the packaging. Keto has helped and IF even more! Here's to your healing journey...love your channel, Steve!
I have to tell you. I had bought the Lewis Healthy Life Keto Bread 2 days ago. That night I made for dinner 2 slices toasted. Then I spread half of a small Hass Avacado on top. On top of one toast I put scrambled egg and top the other toast with a soft boiled egg. By morning I did not feel good at all. Trying to figure it out I tested my glucose and it was 130. My chest hurt and my glucose stayed at 130 for hours before it started to come back down some...115. I drank 2 glasses of water forced myself to exercise and go walking. My husband walked with me concerned. Then I saw this video and I felt so betrayed by Lewis Co. for using bad ingredients that actually are bad for people. Thank you for caring and help weeding out (false products) as I call it. Thank You, Bless you and your family.
I agree. This bread spikes my blood sugar more than regular bread!!!! Plus I would rather eat real bread. Low carb tortillas are actually low carb so I assumed these were actually keto also but nope. To think of all the times I overpaid for this fake bread before testing my blood sugar. Now I feel so betrayed.
Thank you for the review Steve. I especially appreciate your comments on your inflammation. Keto has been as much about weight loss as inflammation and other markers for me if not more.
I've been pre diabetic for several years now and even before being diagnosed as such, I noticed that I had extreme thirst for no apparent reason. I suspected a blood sugar problem and the doctor confirmed it. High thirst is an indication of it , even if it's not constant. Mine is dependent on what and how much of certain things I eat. Now a couple of months ago I saw a yogurt drink that claimed to have no sugar. I bought it and had about half of it, even though it tasted very sweet to me. Now other times when I had extreme thirst ,it went away in several hours or at the most, 4- 7 days. This drink has allulous ( not sure how it's spelled) . My extreme thirst lasted one month. I was afraid I had become diabetic. I had to cut everything out of my diet that might raise sugar. Thank God that I was able to restore my condition back to pre diabetes. God helped me again and I'm grateful to him.
Appreciate the testing & information you provide in doing the reviews. I don't buy anything without reading the ingredient list. I also have to go by total carbs because I've found they all count for me. Have a blessed day!
I didn't make it past the ingredients but because your the best keto teacher I killed the volume and gave it a thumbs up because I know it helps you like your always there for us .
I just started using the Signos CGM last week and have been amazed at the data I am receiving. It's been interesting to see how things I THOUGHT would be an issue are not, and things that I thought would NOT be an issue ARE. So eye-opening!
I LOOOOOVE white bread. In fact, Im kind of a white bread snob. The Lewis bread that you tried first is so close to regular white bread that I cant tell the difference when on a sandwich. Even tho you got a spike from it, it has helped me lose around 30lbs so far. (I think the Hawaiian is gross, though.)
@@carboholickim I watch everything Nili puts out as soon as it hits the web. I have for over 2 yrs for sure. Nili is a champion kitchen science guru!! Brilliant! I was asking what modifications the commenter had specifically done to improve her version. Everyone gets different inspirations.
I have to be honest with you, the companies who are trying to appeal to the Keto Community, we are concerned about our health, so when you put in unhealthy ingredients, well, a true Keto person just puts it back on the shelf. Soy Oil, Canola, Cotton Seed Oil, etc are not healthy oils !!!
The Brownberry is called Oroweat where I am. Same exact packaging. I really like it. Too much probably. Toasted with butter and natural peanut butter. Mmm! I try not to buy it very often. Thanks for your reviews.
Thanks Steve! I've tried all three of those breads and agree with your assessment of the taste. I'm a type 2 diabetic and I got even a higher spike than you - around 50 points.
That's one of the reasons I do these tests. I figure if I spike, it's safe for a T2D to assume they will experience something even worse. Thanks for confirming.
I've made the Indigo Nili version of the Maria Emmerich egg white bread and have come to prefer that for any "bread" needs. These commercial breads are just too expensive with sketchy ingredients...
Yeah, once I work through my supply of Kiss My Keto bread, I'll go back to making the Indigo Nili bread. She's done really good stuff with that recipe.
@@eagercrafter_9014 the bun mold is great-except sort of a pain to clean. I use it weekly to make sandwich rolls for my husband’s lunch. I also use the 2KK protein bread recipe that uses Keto chow Chicken Soup base. I’ve also used the beef soup base with same great results.
I've tried the egg white bread twice with poor results. Next I'm going to try the Indigp Nili version but I have to buy more ingredients. I have more confidence in what she does and it's good to hear others seem to like hers too. Think it's a plan.
Once I tried Franz keto bread and had such bad stomach issues I was afraid to try any other bread. I make indigo Nili butter buns all the time. They are so good. Sticking with that right now.
I'm getting a bit lazy with cooking and I'm not a big fan of chaffles. I know the breads aren't great but for the occasional cheese toasty or blt i don't think it matters that much. Thank you for testing the bread-always good to know the facts.
You are spot on about the bad oils in the breads, also another really bad ingredient is wheat protein isolate. Any of the protein isolates are excitotoxins, which destroy brain cells. I also don't like the glucose spikes. Thank you for this video, it was eye opening.
@@mphsb Hello. The ingredients indicate organic grains but I don't like the canola oil in the Dave's bread because canola oil is another bad oil. The marketing for canola oil sells it as "heart healthy" but it is inflammatory. I would suggest you bake some Keto bread for your Dad. There are so many videos for good Keto bread. The ingredients are so much better for the body - almond flour, coconut flour, avocado or coconut oil. The idea is to keep the inflammation down. My mom is 86 too. She has had type II diabetes for years but keeps it under control via diet and Berberine supplements. She doesn't eat bread at all. I appreciate your asking my opinion SB. It's so good I don't miss regular bread at all! The hotdog and hamburger buns are great too! My favorites are the 0g carb Hawaiian and Cinnamon flavors. I also love the 5 Seed, but it's 1g carb per slice. It doesn't hinder my weight loss at all. And I'm sure that if you eat it with protein and fats that's going to slow the absorption and minimize any spikes.
@@stamatispelekanos650 Awesome! I saw one of the keto gurus, a doctor, say that if you get diarrhea on Keto, it's because you have a very deep kind of inflammation. I say BS. I've been Keto for 6 years now and have tried just about every "Keto" bread on the market (and just about every other Keto product for that matter). This video affirms my experience that Keto bread is not a "set it and forget it" Keto food item when it comes to reliance on net carb theory. I've experienced the same with Carb Smart tortillas as well. I tell all people who go Keto to test, test, and test some more when it comes to different kinds of food. Make notes of what works best for you regarding glucose spike management. You will also find that everyone is a little different. What might spike my blood sugar, may not spike yours, and vice versa. Conversely, some foods you think for sure will spike you don't, while others you think are safe do. The same caution regarding net carb theory should also be applied to Keto sweets, in my experience. An interesting variable you could add to the bread tests is take a glucose reading with eating the bread alone, then add a protein to it and test again. I realize that is a sandwich test, but the protein sometimes helps to temper the spike. You may have already done some of this on other videos. Enjoy your content.
I agree with that. I'm currently more low carb than keto, and started with Atkins over 20 years ago. But, I will incorporate other things when they work for me. Years ago, Dreamfields pasta promoted themselves as having a proprietary method of suppressing glucose spikes, although their carb count is pretty high. I've tested, and for me, Dreamfields works. But, I still want to try both Steve and Keto Asian's pasta when I can afford the specialty ingredients. Definitely test, test, test if someone wants to give the Dreamfields a try.

Thanks for your input. I do like your first one. I’m not concerned with spikes just keeping carbs low and love a sandwich and toast to dip my egg yolks in. Also have been enjoying your talks with Scott at Modernest Pantry.
Hahaha, I loved the "squish test"! When we were growing up in the 1950's, the boys always squished pieces of their white lunch bread into little grey (dirty hands) dough balls before eating it. I thought it was just to freak out the girls, but my husband says no, the bread just tasted better that way!
I squished my bread, too, but first I pulled off the crust in one long piece and made a tight roll out of it and then squished the white part. Long time ago, I'm 75
I like the keto bread from Lewis also. I believe my favorite is the white but the Hawaiian is ok too. I've lost 60 lbs on the low carb, lazy keto diet and am on maintenence now.
Steve! I love these type of videos ! It’s so shady they can legally put 0 net carbs on something and cause that much of a spike! I am Canadian and don’t have focus or keto mojo. Only a plain blood glucose monitor. I am Canadian so I am familiar with Mmol vs the points Americans use. I’m not diabetic but I think it’s like 4-7 points that’s normal. Would you have any idea how big a spike in mmol would be considered insignificant vs moderate ? Maybe like 2/10’s of a point? Btw I pronounce it tumor-ic too. I’ve never heard anyone pronounce the “r”. It’s like necklace, very few people say it how it’s spelled. Everyone says neckless.
Can you interpret the data a bit Steve? Meaning, "the blood glucose spike"? Does that mean you're knocked out of ketosis? I don't have the inflammation reaction to those ingredients and am not a zealot about dirty keto. 2 slices, maybe, in a week, usually on a very Chef'y (Kerrygold butter, fancy deli cut cheeses, flake salt in the butter) grilled cheese with the Lewis plain is next level! Also, do you have a category "Top 10" type of list; like which store bought bread do you recommend? Thanks!
Love all your tests and info. thanks. Also, Falls Park! One of my favorite places in Sioux Falls. I used to go there before it was “beautiful”. so glad the city cleaned up the area, the Falls were always fascinating but it was such a dump back in the 80’s.

Yeah, the ingredients of this bread is nuts. I unlike you love white bread In fact, I'm on my way to the kitchen to have a slice right now. It took a long time to come up with a bread that really comes close to white bread, in fact, today is a hamburger day and I'm using buns that wendy made for the hamburger bun. So watching this video was FANTASTIC because it just updates my knowledge on buying keto bread. Thanks . Oh yeah, when you said cotton seed oil I gringed.
Hey Harry! Just getting ready to mention you guys! I know you have bread recipes that use different ingredients according to your needs which is great, so people don't give up, you will find the one you like if you keep trying because the effort is worth it to find a recipe you will eat forever and know its good for you and won't cause you pain. So thanks to all you bread gurus out there and those who test bread for us like Serious Keto.
So, you are saying your own home-made bread recipes do not spike or consistently raise your blood sugar? I have been thinking of buying a bread maker. Reading reviews now, on the best for gluten free, and low carb breads. I guess some handle these recipes better than others.
I am enjoying your reviews. Love your shirt at the beginning. I'm from Sioux Falls, SD. I recently started a keto diet so I greatly appreciate what you are doing. Thanks!

So interesting I was wondering if you had tested this and of course you had. I discovered Lewes bread in another town since we didn’t have it here. I love it and it never even registers on my cgm. Any of the flavors no response. I stock up and save the ends for hot dog buns. They make buns but the ends are nice and thin which I like. Very interesting that you spiked on Hawaiian.
Thank you Steve, for taking the hit and keeping us well informed. Appreciate this very much.
ChipMonk is top notch. They love their customers and they set an amazing example for customer service. Thanks for sharing your experience!
@@SeriousKeto Have you done a test on Chipmonks breads!
@@pawsjo1713 Yes please!
Once again, Thanks for doing these comparisons, Steve!!!
Same with me. Carbohydrate = sugar where my body is concerned.
Carnivore’s Angel YT channel (Amy Bellinder) has a GREAT Hawaiian Roll recipe and technique that uses real eggs and less egg white powder. Love it!
Thank you once again for doing all the research into these breads for us!
Thanks Steve for all your hard work. Thanks again Jennifer 🤩
Some keto bread has corn fiber in them
because most keto havers arent allergic
Always read the ingredients.
Thanks for taking one for the team. Most of the ingredients I was avoiding before keto!
And kudos on your pronunciation of “turmeric”!
@@Starfish2145 He must have pronounced it with the “r” or I would not have commented.

I just started using the Signos CGM last week and have been amazed at the data I am receiving. It's been interesting to see how things I THOUGHT would be an issue are not, and things that I thought would NOT be an issue ARE. So eye-opening!
"That bread's not right." in the Hank Hill voice was awesome, haha! Thanks for the smiles and all the good info!
That first one has been my go to. Now it’s a no go.. appreciate your reviews! Thank you Steve
Thanks for doing this. I didn't even know Walmart sold Keto bread.
I have been making a modified version of the egg white bread and prefer over any store bought. My husband loves it.

I agree
@@Butterfly-zs2pc so true. I want to have nothing to do with these oils

The Brownberry is called Oroweat where I am. Same exact packaging. I really like it. Too much probably. Toasted with butter and natural peanut butter. Mmm! I try not to buy it very often. Thanks for your reviews.
Me too, that is the way I like it. ..once in awhile.
Same here.. 50-60 pt spike with two slices of Healthy Life white.
@@SeriousKeto I love her bread, just bought the baguette and bun molds based on what she has done.

Loved “It’s not a tuma”! Am enjoying bread again since discovering Indigo Nili’s egg whites bread.
I'm getting a bit lazy with cooking and I'm not a big fan of chaffles. I know the breads aren't great but for the occasional cheese toasty or blt i don't think it matters that much. Thank you for testing the bread-always good to know the facts.

Remember when the announcer would say….”don’t try this at home….” Thanks for your sacrifice Steve!😂
Very interesting Steve. I’m very appreciative for all you do!
You are spot on about the bad oils in the breads, also another really bad ingredient is wheat protein isolate. Any of the protein isolates are excitotoxins, which destroy brain cells. I also don't like the glucose spikes. Thank you for this video, it was eye opening.
What is your opinion on Dave's Sprouted bread for my 86 yr old father?
@@mphsb Hello. The ingredients indicate organic grains but I don't like the canola oil in the Dave's bread because canola oil is another bad oil. The marketing for canola oil sells it as "heart healthy" but it is inflammatory. I would suggest you bake some Keto bread for your Dad. There are so many videos for good Keto bread. The ingredients are so much better for the body - almond flour, coconut flour, avocado or coconut oil. The idea is to keep the inflammation down. My mom is 86 too.

Yep, I agree with all of that.

There are so many things that don’t spike you but send my glucose through the roof. We are all so different. I love my cgm. BTW their seed bread is my absolute favorite. Thanks for the review. I buy the last one.. I'm not diabetic so it's all about keeping carbs down.. it's around 5.50 to 6.oo$ so pretty expensive for me, but I love it. If I was diabetic it would be a different story. I do have the other bread you tested in my Amazon bucket.. I'll be eating both. My hubby who doesn't eat low carb at all likes the brownberry keto bread too.. so just to keep him a bit lower in carbs (he eats a lot of bread and toast) I like having it in the fridge.
Which bread to buy then?
I've heard base culture keto bread is good, it's frozen but $9.95.
Thank you for testing those! I appreciate the information!
Thanks Steve, always enjoy these tests. I'd love to see you do a test with regular wonder bread as well. It'd be nice to see a comparison between that and the other "keto" breads you've tested.
Should I shoot up a little heroin while I'm at it? 😄
Thank you for all the testing you do!! I was wondering if you could do one on the LovinFresh White Keto-Friendly bread from Aldi's?
And Joseph's Lavash Bread? (Please) :)
Thank you for reviewing the Brownberry. It seemed too yummy to be ok for us and now I know! It’s off of my shopping list!
Great comparison & analysis. Thanks as always, Steve! 👏
Wow! That Hank Hill voiceover was on point. Wait! Did you originally do voiceover for Hank Hill??🥰
I would really like to see the results of a Sola bread comparison. There is a wheat, honey wheat and sweet oat selection in the loaves. They also have bagels and hot dog buns that I’ve seen.
Thanks in advance!!
I thought for sure I had done a Sola bread review. I know I've tried it and this was back when they were still using soybean oil. I believe they have new recipe using a better oil. I'll have to try it out the next time I see it.
So glad to have found your channel
I’m glad to have you here. 🙂
You're the man, God Bless!
