A beautiful moment in this musician's life was spying (show headliner) SRV quietly walk out from the backstage area into the crowd to watch Jimmie perform "Extra Jimmies" during the T-Birds set. A couple of over-ardent fans started to interrupt him, but several of us quietly encircled (hatless!) SRV to give him insulation from the crowd while he watched his brother with an expression of awe, respect, love, and enjoyment that I can still picture to this day. Later on, I saw Jimmie partially hidden by the curtain on the side of the stage, watching Stevie with that same expression.
Jimmie is the nicest celebrity I've ever met. He took the time to have an actual conversation with me. No celebrity to fan stuff, guitar player to guitar player, and man to man. So much respect for Jimmie.
Jimmie doesn't get nearly enough credit for how graciously he has navigated life as a working musician now charged with his brothers legendary legacy. It is no easy thing. Jimmie is an exceptional musician in his own right now faced with the reality he will forever be in Stevie's shadow. I get the impression it is out of his comfort zone but he is doing his best. God Bless you big brother. And God Bless Texas.
I was so BLESSED to MEET & VISIT (& take a few pictures & autograph) with Jimmie Vaughan back in May 2013, here in my small town & venue. He WAS & IS AWESOME! His mastering of his guitar & playing & music was out of this world! I almost felt like I was watching his brother Stevie play, but NOT to make ANY comparison, he just looked & sounded "in the zone" and I can see WHY Stevie looked up and felt the way he did towards his big brother! After the show Jimmie sent out 2 of his "Handlers" & came up to me saying "Jimmie wants to meet you"... It was SO surreal and a AWESOME EXPERIENCE... I think a lot of it had to do with his wanting to meet me, was because I made him a "Welcome Basket" to thank him for coming to our small town and playing. (ESPECIALLY after he had just suffered a heart attack a few weeks earlier.) Then "his guys" told me to follow them back to the venue and to sit down and they would go get Jimmie... and sure enough Here Comes Jimmie walking up to me, extending his hand & introducing himself & thanking me for The Gift Basket... He was so FRIENDLY & thanking me for "taking the time to think about him by making his little Gift Basket." I knew Jimmie LOVES to restore old cars & show them and enter them in contests in which he takes home A LOT of FIRST PRIZES.... so I decided to get him a model sized "replica" of a vintage Baby Blue Cadillac convertible where the doors opened and the top opened up & in which he told me how much he enjoyed it, along with the other items I had tucked away in this basket... after a little visit and some pictures and of course an autograph... Jimmie then went on to get back on HIS (& Lou Ann's) bus... And one awesome THING that came out of THIS.... is I got to MEET and HAVE a CHERISHED FRIENDSHIP with the Mother of his son, Tyrone Vaughan, also a talented musician guitarist, up until her death recently in 2018. She shared with me many GREAT STORIES about Jimmie, (& a few about Stevie Ray) as she knew him (Jimmie) since she was 16 and he around 20... You NEVER KNOW where life is going to take you & WHO you're going to meet along the way. And I'll tell you, Wow! What an awesome Journey it has been! Love & Miss you Becky. RIP Precious Friend 🙏🌹
Jimmy Vaughan loved his brother and I can see when Jimmy speaks Stevie's name he gets choked up and the pain sets in ..Jimmy Vaughan is also a blue's legend and a sensational one at that..Jimmy Vaughan meant everything to Stevie and probably filled in closer then his dad did to Stevie by being around Jimmy all the time and getting advice from him...That's life
Jimmie has an edge to him that's an unkind vibe to me. Stevie was much softer, gentler. I imagine part of his anger is with himself for being so jealous of his brother. The ugliness a person harbors not only bothers them, but it eats at yourself to. Much better to "let go of resentment". Makes for a better person and better relationships with others.
@@yepper1165 Jimmie is alot like Big Jim, their daddy. He's got a mean steak and a temper. They loved each other despite a tumultuous relationship that stemmed from growing up in an alcoholic, abusive family. Stevie was/is more commercially viable than Jimmie ever was...but Stevie never shucked bro off. He was included in anything he did that was major (George HW Bush presidential ball/concert thing, for example). Jimmie let Stevie play and sit in when Fabulous Thunderbirds hit it big before Stevie. You cannot have Stevie without Jimmie and vice versa. There is no SRV with JLV and vice versa.
@@xenoscoot Good comment! And I think it's great that they were close at the end and got to make an album together. It's horrible that some family members are able to hold grudges in some families. It's always a regret when people do. No one understands you like your siblings!
@@yepper1165 Family Style is awesome. It's a unique album in that both are playing very much out of their normal style. Something totally different with them and Doyle Bramhall. They didn't use ppl from own bands if I remember correctly nor producer etc. Was very much outside their normal. It was done on purpose. Every bluesman around holds Jimmie in reverential awe as a legend, GOAT. He's just never been able to remain commercially viable for any great period of time in mainstream. He just put out an album. It's really good. Sliding under radar has opened up many roads for Jimmie that wouldn't have existed if he'd been mainstream. He's taken music theory classes, he had time to develop his own sound, voice, and creativity. Interviews and articles show his growth over 30 years. My first love is Stevie, but I have enough room in my heart for Jimmie, too.
@@xenoscoot As time goes by I become more convinced that there are tons of truly unique and gifted musicians that never make it to the mainstream. Jimmy Vaughn is an awesome guitarist him and Stevie were completely different but each of them were gifted in guitar 🎸 and both of them and both deserve the highest respect for their music.
Stevie had a 'larger than life' style... But these 2 brothers played together and you can see the love and admiration they had for each other. You don't get over this kind of loss, you just learn to live with it. However hard it is, and how ever long it takes..
Just saw Jimmie here in Utah my first time seeing a Vaughan and second time seeing Buddy. After jimmie walks off all the sudden my mom , I and everybody heard this huge bend by buddy before he even walked on and it shook the whole place it was so loud.
He doesn't like taking about Stevie. I don't think people realize there was a rivalry. Two seperate occasions I mentioned Stevie to him and both times his face dropped and he went cold instantly. Jimmie wants to be recognized for his own great music. He is absolutely one of the greats but it has to be hard for him.
I have noticed with Jimmie Vaughan that his hands is frigidity all the time..its like his hands are always wanting to touch a cord or his other hand is needing to strum the strings..I think it's out of habit that his hands are always on the move..r u with me? Jimmie is a great guy and he tries to tell you all you want to know when he gets that chance..great guitar player and a great speaker..
That's not true... there wasn't any of that... Jimmy toughened Stevie up & made him work harder. He was Stevie's biggest influence. I always thought Jimmy was shy and quiet, I see this very out going, humble guy in these interviews. The Vaughan brothers just had this special quality about them, besides their guitar playing. Gentlemen and very humble... Super, super nice guys. God Bless ✝🎶🎸🎶✝
Jimmie Vaughan seems to be hurt and sad about the best blue'sman and rock n roll guitar player there was and a songwriter and singer..Stevie Ray Vaughan was an energetic guy that kept the fans up on his incredible music..Stevie always gave 100% on every song he played and sang..
I have interviewed him a few times over the years and we have become friendly.. When i did this interview it was just after his brother's RockWalk induction along with Buddy Guy and Bonnie Raitt... so it was really casual.. but he is a very cool dude..
Well, first of all Jimmie's music speaks for itself. Jimmie clearly loved his late younger brother and is rightly proud of his brother's fame and success and accomplishments in music. I've been a fan of Jimmie's music since the mid-1980's even before I knew who his brother was. I watch and listen to these interviews whenever I have a chance. Every time, Jimmie is the same: humble and kind and well-spoken. Jimmie reminds me of some of my favorite teachers and music teachers from when I was in school.
If there was no Jimmy. There would have been no Stevie. This is where his first interest of the guitar came from and was who he first emulated. Until Jimmy started kicking butt for messing with his guitar. Then it was Albert king. No, I don't know for a fact but I have a big and a little bro. It only seems logical. Regardless, I think they both are awesome.
