I visit srv's grave in 2019. I also drove by his home he grew up in. I left a nice guitar pick on his grave.
Recently saw Jimmie in concert. Put this on your Bucket List. He is a senior statesman for the blues. A player worth listening to and a show worth seeing. Love his style.
I knew Jimmie's music before Stevie. He's the older brother and not in anyone's shadow. He is a gentleman to put up with all the Stevie Ray fanatics. His style is totally unique and he is one cool dude. Guys like Muddy, Son House and even Hendrix didn't leave their marks because they were the most technical guys around. They left their marks because they were unique, they had their own sounds and styles. That's what really matters, not how fast you can play. Jimmie points that out here while remaining one humble, cool dude.
William did you know that when Hendrix was 17 he found out where Son House lived. One day he knocked on his door and the two became friends until Hendrix died. At this point Son House had not played since his buddy Willy Brown died in1953.
Dont get me wrong I personally prefer dig in and get cha some guts approach eg.S RV and a few others ,but if you looking for the real deal , hurt you with one note then JV's the kat
Am a huge SRV fan, yet Jimmy's collaboration with John Lee Hooker on Boom Boom, is an unparalleled achievement, that take is one of the most outstanding of one of the coolest blues songs, performed thus by two of the coolest blues cats around

@@emptyarms6113 Up through the 70s B.B. was actually a bit more acrobatic on the fretboard. There's videos where you can hear him really get excited and stretch his fingers a bit.
Jimmie "Wishing Stevie was here to see this." tugged my heart strings. Such a great guy. Thank you Jimmie for the inspiration and stories and awesome music over the years! I feel you're a legendary blues guitarist and songwriter. And I also wish Stevie was here. I feel he was the only player that could touch Hendrix in with what someone can do with a guitar in their hands. Thank you too Stevie for the inspiration and legendary guitar playing!

I hear you. That's a wise way to look at it. Its stll a bummer though. I'm a native Texan (Dallas/Fort Worth area) and the untimely loss of our ultimate "Local Boy Makes Good" really hit us hard. I was about 18 years old and a budding guitar player myself. Stevie was my hero. When I learned of his death it felt like I got hit in the gut with a sledge hammer.
This guy is the perfect example of less is more. Smooth licks and super cool

I’m lucky enough to have seen both Vaughan brothers play! Even got to shake Stevie’s hand! And I got to meet and chat with Jimmie- when I was introduced to him as “J.D., the fanatical blues guitar player,” Jimmie put his arm around my shoulder and said, “Hey brother, all us blues guitar players are fanatics, right??” Absolute gentleman- made my day, for sure! I’m a fan for life...

I'm from Dallas and watched Jimmy grow up from a great local guitarist to the international legend he is today. He the real deal, humble and proves that sometimes less is more. Jimmy inspired me to be a pro bass player that toured for over 30 years playing in funky blues joints.

I had the pleasure meeting jimmy in the 80;s in Antwerp. Nice Guy. at that time he had personalised picks. I found one on stage, I still have it and cherish it. Occasionally I even use.

One thing Stevie always said his brother was a better player then him. I heard one time at a convience store Stevie was at some guy ask him if he.would get him a pack of smokes at first Stevie said yeah, but before he got his smokes in his hand the guy made a remark about how he is.so much a better player then your brother. Then Stevie said just for that your not getting your cigarettes

We all thought we knew rockin blues until Stevie came along then the world changed and the dream started.
When you first start learning the electric guitar, you quickly discover Stevie and you are instantly amazed. Then you bump into Family Style and you listen to Jimmie too. You learn his story and you assume he is the lesser known brother because he was a worse guitar player. You just ignore his work for a few years while still learning the instrument. Once you're on a certain level you suddenly begin to appreciate Jimmie as a separate musical force and realize you had underestimated him. Final stage: you recognize Jimmie Vaughan as a blues guitar legend of his own.
At 5.10 Jimmie says...we were living the dre@m and then his smile...a priceless interview moment 🎸🌈🎙

"The world misses his guitar playing. I miss my brother." Or something like that. Yeh. Mine passed in January of 1995. So I know the feeling, Jimmy.
What a classy guy. I have spent enough time playing out, to know they are few and far between. And he's right about the point he made regarding developing your own style. If you want to grow as a player, at some point you have to quit working out other people's music, and just sit in the dark, unplugged, and start going over exercises and scales and let the melodies begin to flow ... but you must have the technique down first. I have been playing 58+ years, and to this day I still go back and work on exercises ... makes a huge difference in what comes out of my guitar.
I’m 45 , I was in a car accident 10 years ago , became a paraplegic, finally took up the guitar about three years ago and I’ve completely dove in head first. I used to play the drums. I’ve made pretty good progress 8n the past couple years but can’t help and wonder if it’s just too late 8n life. Please give me your honest opinion , too late or no ?

I didn't get to play with any of these guys or be one of these guys, but I did get to go to the concerts and absorb the vibes which you could feel for days afterwards, so that's going to have to be good enough. In fact, yeah, it *was* good enough.

The unique thing about Jimmie and Stevie's relationship is they each thought the other was the best guitar player. They were the biggest fans to each other. That is a special relationship and Jimmy and double trouble have done a great job working with young talent.
Saw Jimmie Vaughn in a club in St. Kilda in Melbourne Australia in 1989/90.
He went on around 3:00 Am after Charlie Musslewhite's set.
He played his electric guitar with his fingers. It took him about an hour before
he was warmed up and just cooking with gas. By the time he finished around
6:00 AM he was absolutely on fire EXACTLY like his brother!
Only difference was he was using all his fingers on BOTH hands !
There was an opener that night too. And an amazing 10 year old
Australian busker (with his dad) kid on harp who bent notes and played flawless blues harp
that blew everybody's mind. Jimmy Vaughn is amazing just like his brother.
Jimmie is a great guy . I had the good fortune to meet him and he graciously autographed a t shirt for me . Also I got to see SRV several times which was always fantastic.
as a 45 year ...but still novice player, I love hearing how these greats like the same artists I do and how they found their own way and style... When BB King says 'I cant play the chords or I can't play that fast stuff" I take heart and keep playin'...humility is a great teacher.

I got into the Fabulous Thunderbirds in 1981. I had "whats the word" and "girls go wild" ...i still rate them as 2 of my favourite all time albums. When Stevie's first album came out, I never connected that he was Jimmie's brother...for a few months. No internet, and not a lot of info in Australia about texas blues scene. I used to go to the library to read downbeat magazine..and there it mentioned they were bro's...like a lightbulb went off..it all made sense. Luckiliy I got see Stevie in 1984, and again in '86 with Fabulous T-Birds as support...i watched them play the twin neck guitar guitar doing Dick Dale's pipeline..best gig i ever saw..magic. At one stage there I owned a polka dot buddy guy copy strat, that had Stevie's signature and the words "see you soon" on the headstock - made by Chris Kinman (of pickup fame)..they took the neck to an autograph signing that Stevie was doing in 84, and he wrote in gold marker and they laquered over it with clear..so it was permanent. sold it some time in the 90's for $400 ..i still kick myself over that one. Not for the value, just as a keepsake.

I've never got to see Jimmy in concert but did see Stevie with the Stray Cats at the Toledo Zoo it was a great show!
Jimmie is my favorite guitar player. His tone, his touch and dynamics, his feeling. Wow.......I can only recommend spending time listening to him. He just knows where and when to put the right notes. He has an intuitive touch and connection with the instrument that is lacking in today's "super players". Jimmie is a real super player.

My first electric guitar was a Jimmie Vaughan signature. It was made in Mexico and I loved it. It's a real rugged yet sweet 50s instrument, just sang and yelled. I sold it to pay for my wedding. I miss that strat so much.

I live in Austin and get to see Jimmie Vaughan play all the time. You can tell he still loves playing guitar for an audience. He's a natural entertainer. He plays that white strat everytime I see him. I love that he has no pedal board and plays the same guitar for his entire show. He's a real throwback player and very entertaining to see if you haven't had the chance to see him.
Ask Jimmie to come and play England. We're long overdue!

Man.... Got here lateasphukk, but this upload proves there's still humility in the music biz. I've seen this guy 15+ times, and his lil bro 4 when he was kicking, and they both kill it. Big brother was always saying good things about lil bro, and vise versa. Gotta LOVE that. I'll bet alot of fams could learn a thing or two from the Vaughn's. Listen to them both lots 2 this day! Played Stevie's "Texas Flood" during hurricane Harvey loud enough to here it over my damn gen set, AND the wind! ❤S. E. TEXAS❤....... F. U. Harvey!

Then the next weekend I saw him at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Festival and he was great at both of them when he and Robert Cray and the boys played six string down at Crossroads it was epic it was perfect look it up and listen to it wow Crank It Up I was there!!!!!!!!!🎸🔊🎵🎶 😎👍

Jimmy has always seemed really simple and humble and never tries to come across as something he's not. Stevie praised his playing constantly and always said "I play 80% of what I can play but Jimmy only plays 20% of what he can play". Now do I think Jimmy can play better than Stevie? No. But do I think he's a really nice guy that just loves what he does as much as Stevie loved what he did? Yes.

I saw Jimmy Vaughn play that other 80% on a rainy night in Melbourne Australia
at 3:00 AM until 6:00 AM. set ! Believe me Jimmy could play just like Stevie when he wanted too.
He was just so reserved and humble and inclined that way on stage. He played with his fingers mostly
and it took him about an hour to really get all ten of them just ripping it up.
Stevie just ran with with all of it, all the time. And, Jimmy was Stevie's role model.
Those two on a stage together? Now their was something I would have loved to see.

There is a star 0n the street at the Orpheum theater in memphis, TN, with Stevie Ray Vaughan name on it, He recording live there on August 26, 1986. Love his music.
I always liked Jimmie's rhythm/lead style with the Thunderbirds solid as a rock, foundational to good band sound. Nice, humble guy, too.

I don't recall ever hearing Jimmy talking before. He seems a very personable guy - I'd love to hear some more of his anecdotes.
I never heard my dad turn on a radio my entire life, but I grew up playing and wrote some great stuff that my dad always ignored, or downright rejected. Now him and Stevie are buried 50 yards or so apart from each other. With Stevies' Oak Cliff charm, if they communicate under ground, I hope he was able to get through to my dad, where I couldn't.
I love these stories about a wall full on 1950's Strats in the mid 1960's. $150 - $175 back then would be to over $1200 in today's dollar, so they would not be cheap, but having a wall from of them to select from would have been a wonderful experience.

I got one of the first Jimmy Vaughn strats out of Mexico. What a great guitar. One of the best guitars Fender made.
I bought a candy apple red one directly from Jimmie. It was displayed for sale at meet & greet after his show in New Hampshire. I said this one's gotta be just right if they sent it to you. It's a sweet player for sure! I have been blessed to be friends with Jimmie & Stevie through the years.
