I've been listening to Bluesville a lot more lately... one of the great secrets of satellite radio!

Generally because it took European musicians (especially British ones) to give the Blues its justified position, after its originators were largely ignored in the States. Clapton was one of the best playing it. Peter Green, for instance, was another one, but he was more a purist. Of course there was also the hype created by the "Clapton is God" thing and his friendship with The Beatles and The Stones didn't hurt his popularity either, I think.
I love his recognizable tone and musicality.

Here's a similar story - when i was in high school in the sixties , us VERY white boys loved
James Brown and the Flames .
Well , we got tickets to see Brown in Syracuse Ny and were out of our minds excited . We got to our seats sat down, looked around and suddenly we realized we were the only white boys in the entire theater . But that was soon forgotten once the music started and a hot woman about four or five seats from us jumped up in the middle of James singing " Try Me " and shouted out ! " i'll try you James , i'll try you right NOW!" What a fantastic concert that was .

Rory, Billy Gibbons, Terry Kath... Anytime someone asked him about being the best guitarist in the world, that was his deflection.

I love Bluesville and always thought that it was better than Sirius. Maybe it depends on which one you listened to first. I don't think the merger hurt the blues component of satellite radio. I love stories about how blues so influenced all the good music of the sixties and beyond.

I think it's because he was the first to play in the style he used to play... and he gained a reputation because no one had done it before, and the reputation stuck.
I personally LOVE the stuff he did in Cream... his phrasing was awesome. I don't love too much of his stuff after Cream though.

Great vid... anything with BG (and BB, of course) is a home run, in my opinion. More, more, more!!! I also think Blues 74 was much better than the Bluesville is... Blues 74 was more old timey blues that I love listening to. Miss Bonamassa and the Chess show... but Bluesville is still good... better than the blues stations here in Sacramento (there are none!!!)!

"Bluesville" is okay but.... Before the merger, Sirius had the better Blues channel. It hurt my heart that it didn't make the merger.

I agree - bluesville does suck. I liked the old channel much better. I understand that they're trying to play contemporary stuff, but why aren't they playing the good contemporary stuff?Plus, you'll hardly ever hear those great blues songs from the 40s, 50s or even 60s when lets face it blues was at its best.

  • @tomthefunky

I just got rid of sirius. The classic soul channel has the same old stuff like What's Goin' On and Barry White's greatest hits. Stuff we all heard a million times. They advertise Tom Petty's show (which is great) and sometimes it's not on at the times they advertise WTF? The political talk radio is the same as commercial radio including commercials!!! Little Steven's show has too many crappy new punk bands. ROSIE O'DONNELL??? MARTHA STEWART??? OPRAH?? FUCK THAT!!!
