What over the top talent you have! So nice to hear someone who understands the true power of music and has the ability to so magnificently convey it. Congratulations, Mr. Cangelosi, for your accomplishment.
Hi Brandon, that's great, best of luck. I like the Promark Glennie mallets for this piece. I use one red (soft) and three blues (medium). Keep the busy 32nd notes loose, keep them as free and easy as a one-handed roll. Thanks!
Great music ! As we play this piece on marimba, it seems to convey the picture of a little circus. Now, there is a circus number, with movements, laughters, some unexpected and like amusing little pranks... The atmosphere of the stage is somewhat confusing with crescendos and fun stage games. A minor gives a special light, like an emotion a little out of step with the adventures that are taking place... Bravo for this piece, beautifully composed and played !
You came and did a lecture on marimba and orchestral snare at Utah's day of percussion last year! I was blown away. I hope to be as good as you some day. Just a dream come true. And I am the 100th comment! wahoo!
When I first watched the video(listened), I was like:"OMG this is so hard!", but after listening to it for several times, I figured, its only the beginning that's a bit complicated. Other is all octaves and chromatics :P Anyways, this piece is still great and I want to play it really bad, so i'm gonna buy it! Keep doing the great work! You're an inspiration for all of us!
I just love listening to marimba.. I could only dream of playing like him one day. Its a complete dream to play for a DCI group, but coming from a small high school I doubt it happening.
After I saw you at PASIC last November I decided that I wanted to perform one of your pieces at least once, and so I've decided to perform this piece for my major standing in the fall! :)
Casey, I'm looking at the score now and I noticed that in measure 2, the left hand has an E and a G#, but you're play a G# and either a B or a C in this video. Is that something you changed? I think it sounds better the way it is in this video but I wasn't sure why it was different.
What is that thing you do in your left hand starting at 1:43-1:50? I feel like that is your signature since it seems to be in all your pieces. But I want to know how to do that it sounds so cool.
@MrJugglingAddict hey, I distribute practically all my pieces through my site (listed in the description) I have a few things published through Bachovich music and C.Alan Publications, but this piece is at my site :) haha! -love you too, casey
Hello Casey, i really enjoy listening to this piece and i hope to play it some day, may i ask, what kind of mallets are you using in this piece? Thanks!
Definitely shoot me a message next time you come back to Utah. Cause I was talking to Doug Wolf and it turns out he knows you too. I would love a lesson!
Casey, I am currently working on this piece for PASIC's marching festival competition and I was wondering what mallets you were using in this video or what mallets you would recommend. LOVE this piece by the way. (also, any tips on building up the left and right hand 32nd note parts?) Thanks, Brandon
Lol he writes stuff that only HE can do. I get so mad watching his vids sometimes. But I'm working my ass off this summer to play this or his etude in e minor.
I don't know what it is but his body looks like it moves very jerky and fast. Looks like the video was sped up, but I could also be wrong and him just really be that fast
The keyword is to RELAX and use a LOT of wrist technique (and single alternated strokes). I recommend the Method of Movement for Marimba (book by Leigh Howard Stevens). You can see Casey's flow in 0:01 to 0:14.
This is one of the most extraordinary compositions for marimba that I have ever heard. Keep them coming!
thanks!

thank you!
Your composition skills continue where Mr. Musser left off. Great interest throughout the etude! Bravo Casey.

this is some truly awesome stuff, probably one of the best written for 4.3 octave marimba
Every time I listen to this piece, I love it more!!!

Absolutely amazing! bravo sir! I'll hope to see more!
Casey! Your brilliant, great writing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my favorite of your solos.
yep, you're totally right. Same chord, but yes I like the G# and B better than the written E and G#. My editor (me) is bad
Massively inspiring!

Where is the sheet music for this?! I would love to learn it!!

This piece is too good to have such poor audio quality! Please make a version with new recording equipment! Thanks for all of the great music!
Very good! I love the fluid motion of the body and arms from note to note. However, at times you look very tense, and it bugs me a bit. Great piece!
mostly all chromatic at the octave. thanks!
:)
Awesome!
@ErikKranjc Many thanks!!!!
that would've been awesome to see, you're definitely one of my inspirations to become a better player :)
yep, it fits
@CaseyCangelosi Hey , i just got the music.... thanks a lot!!!
Hello Casey, i really enjoy listening to this piece and i hope to play it some day, may i ask, what kind of mallets are you using in this piece?
Thanks!
I never did, though I think it would have been great.

@NRDistheWRD11 hahaha! except for the fact that...I didn't. Come see me live sometime, you'll see :)
Definitely shoot me a message next time you come back to Utah. Cause I was talking to Doug Wolf and it turns out he knows you too. I would love a lesson!

Casey, what do I need to do to become your student at Concord?? I want to be amazing like you.
what exercises/warmups do you do to prepare for something like this: chop building?
Monster!

@Thereverend9200 Want to set-up a audition? Fire me an email at caseyrcang@yahoo.com

Man > Machine

Casey,
I am currently working on this piece for PASIC's marching festival competition and I was wondering what mallets you were using in this video or what mallets you would recommend. LOVE this piece by the way. (also, any tips on building up the left and right hand 32nd note parts?)

Brandon
haha, in the description
casey, have you ever marched a drum corps? :]
When did Patrick carney learn marimba?
Hi Casey,
I was wondering what mallets you were using? They sound great.
@pkim9 that'll work, thanks :)
@john3047X agree
@mussermarimba Ur doing this piece in 8th grade? good god, r you taking it at the speed he's taking it at?
aint it almost impossible to control 4 tones with two hands ? : O looks and sounds so incredible! :D
@Createzilla Hi, I send hard copies :)
What grip do you use?
Keatin Cecrle stevens grip
can this be played on a 4.3?
MythicalCretures he is playing it on a 4.3 marimba I think, then yes
Lol he writes stuff that only HE can do. I get so mad watching his vids sometimes. But I'm working my ass off this summer to play this or his etude in e minor.
lol
good player
even if he did speed the tape up it would still be holy shit mode
some one recommend me some mallets for this piece lol
Ohohoh. Now -this- would be a tough piece. :3
I don't know what it is but his body looks like it moves very jerky and fast. Looks like the video was sped up, but I could also be wrong and him just really be that fast
It's not sped up, it's a fast and technically difficult piece...
Apparently you've never seen a marimba player...
The keyword is to RELAX and use a LOT of wrist technique (and single alternated strokes). I recommend the Method of Movement for Marimba (book by Leigh Howard Stevens). You can see Casey's flow in 0:01 to 0:14.
If it was sped up the pitch would be off...
I mean, he has the best hands in the business
May I ask what mallets you're using in this video?
Hi, sure - I believe it was the Katarzyna Myćka series (hard and medium), today I use my own series - 3 CGL4 (hard) and 1 CGL3 (medium). :)
