Love it when an intense piece ends with a nice, quiet little umph.
This guy got bored of the actual piece and decided to go ham at like measure 3
*measure 8
Dude that low C at 3:07 is PHAT with headphones all the way uo
#thwack
low c go brrrrr
Always matches his outfit with his mallets
I just played this solo for my sophomore year in S&E, It was really fun learning this piece and I will always remember it, jumping from Ghost Garden to this was pretty weird and difficult but I managed and pushed through, thank you for making this recording of libertango, it helped a lot when I ran into some weird rhythms.
in high school? holy crap. i played etude in c major for my sophomore year haha
Bro what I'm going from ghost garden to Libertango as sophnore
@@gigapoptart7616he’s ass, don’t worry about him
Woah this is literally me! I did ghost garden last year and now doing this my sophomore year! So excited to learn it
I'm going to play this sophomore year too. I just learned Chorea Luna and I have also learned etude in B, so Im hoping this is fun
is that the same guy who performed in the Catching Shadows sextet? What a boss
3:05 that part is so cool idk why
Jacob Singson it incorporates the bottom C into the bass for the fist time. Super cool Harmonically and sounds super beefy.
I love it too
My ears are happy every time I hear this piece, and touching it is a pain in the hands, but 100% worth it.
*Update* jsjs now I know where I wrote wrong there... but, now that I am 17 I can happily say that I was able to play that piece and now I will present it in my first orchestra audition.
did you translate from another language lol? "touching" should be "playing" but I think they come from the same verb in Spanish lmao
Also, I 100% agree with you. Amazing piece - one of my favorites
@@benwilcox1192 its just a saying
2:05 LOVE the little momentum thing, so creative!
I'm playing this for my Junior Fall juries! Excellent playing Sam. Hope our paths will cross! I am loving your marimba playing
I played this my senior year in 2012. I like to think none of my competitors had the balls to even think about it but this dude ripped it harder than I ever could have.
Those octave hits were cleaner than a fresh baby wipe
I'm a sophmore playing this for state 😭😭😭 this will kill me
Я это играла в 6 классе
Very nice use of hip dampening!
Get it Sam!!! You're the man
Simply amazing.
Hats off to you. Great job.
Dude, that's strong! I'll order the sheet music right now and then: After beginning to practice, I'll give up and we speak again in 20 years! Then I will play it with half the tempo :P
Lol. It’s actually surprisingly easy at slower tempos.
とっても素敵です✨
大好きな曲なので何回も聴いてます☺️

Will you be doing more DCI stuff for 2017?
ThatWasSexy always great to see a TWS comment
Why is libertango so GREAT
Marimba sound very good so beautiful
I see you at 1:30 with the hip deaden technique👏👏
I was waiting for this
Wonderful!!!
Oh, and will you ever add the Bb flat musser etude?
3:07 dropping the bass
Anyone know how to make sure the 2nd LH note (on the and of one) in the melody phrase comes out, especially after chord changes? I have almost everything in this piece down, that still gets me.
Why's this gotta be so hard?!
Eric Sammut is a legend lol.
@@_cynth_wave it’s the same pattern over and over really fast lol. Conceptually it’s easy, but requires chops. Middle section with the the dampening and the triplets is the most difficult part between the hands
@@tylergash3175 this piece is a 3 and a half minute stamina test from the looks of it, wish i had a 5
@@tylergash3175 literally rotation 2 on steroids
Cool!!
Learning this for State Solo and Ensemble! I'm a sophmore in high school. Any tips from anyone who played this?
How far have you made it into the piece?
I more or less learned the chords and melody and played different variations on the chord and melody just to get it in my ear. Whilst doing this, I’d practice the pattern on just one set of notes and build it up slowly. Once I felt comfortable with the pattern, I added the notes to it. With the third iteration in the triplets that’s more difficult, it was a lot of solo and stuff like RH only practice and LH only practice. Just practice in a variety of ways and you’ll get it
@@tylergash3175 I know about 90 percent of the song. Just trying to work out the final part of that triplet part it is pretty weird. But honestly not too difficult. I did work on the pattern for a bit until I learned notes. The octaves aren't as hard as I thought and the 32 note part just came naturally after time. Really fun solo. Still got 2 months to practice it and get even better until state solo and ensemble!
Update: I know the whole solo and I am getting better and better. Division 1 at state incoming 👀
@@pixelmine2 How did it go?
This guy's a boss
what is the song that always play at the beginning of these videos?
Prelude - Cello Suit No.5 by J.S Bach
Goals
I would love to see one of these videos of Two Mexican Dances for Marimba by Stout.
1:32 is awesome 😭
I've always wondered what the little snippet of music was in the intro to these videos. Is it a piece, or just a little lick?
Bach's 5th Cello Suite! ua-cam.com/video/ZxwAwJRKg0c/v-deo.html
straight heat
My friend tried playing this last year, he didn’t get very far...
Would this piece be possible to play with the Burton grip?
Can this be played on a 4.5 octave marimba?
I played it on a 4.5 octave for an audition. It's definitely possible, you just have to change a few notes. There's no low E which is the worst part. I just changed all instances of a low E or lower to another note that fit with my ear and made it work for me. It's a really fun piece, and even more fun on an actual 5 octave
So in my music of the same piece, in measure 30 it has 17 16th notes in the 4/4 bar. Does anyone know why it is written like that?
Nick S maybe one of the beats was a fivelet?
I’m responding 4 years later but, that note is actually supposed to be doubled by mallets 3 and 4 I believe. This is to keep the same feel of double stops that you’re hearing in the phrase leading up to this
Looks frantic
if you like this song go check the performance of Adelaide Ferriere!!
piazzola !
良い!
Is left hand suppose to be doing ripple?
in the octaves at the end, yes
The right hand but yes
This song is such a meme at our school
Jobro why tho
Literally everyone in our percussion section knows the beginning part and it seems to never not be played before or after school.
Jobro tbh our percussion meme is the easy parts of 2+1 and we are number one
Jobro lol I'm the only one who even knows what the solo is
Jobro why don't u be the first to break the meme lol; be the first to know the whole damn thing 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Vic Virth Are those Flams around 2:40 in his right hand?
Derryk Theberge They're sixteenth notes, it seems
I listen to this piece all the time (and I am currently learning it as well...it’s hard af), so I decided to correct my comment. They’re actually sextuplets.
Sixteenth triplet, going down into the left hand
is the a 5 octave marimba piece or can it be played on a 4.3 octive
You might be able to fit it on a 4.3- I guess you just need to play it up an octave.
If it was put up a octave could it be played on a 4.3 octave marimba
If you haven't found out, the answer is yes. The piece doesnt use the entire top octave, so you can simply move it up an octave. Note accuracy is harder with smaller bars and it doesn't sound as good, but it's definitely doable.
👍
I've been using some Nebosja Zivkovics (the light blue NJ5s?)for this piece, and was wondering if I should use different mallets. My main problem in playing this is just general confidence and then the sextuplet into the damp band C part. (The very first one) Because the sticking then begins in a left hand lead and it's supr difficult to do the 32nd notes into the melody with this lead.
SkyrimRules599 this is SUPER late but I do I triple lateral there, so I’m playing the D, E, then back up to the B with all left hand so it still leads with right. It’s still very hard chop wise bc the fast interval change and triple laterals but it’s easier in my opinion than leading with left
@@goatmagic5220 hey so i was wondering on a scale of 1-10 how hard is this solo for a sophomore in high school
Daniel Davis I played it as a junior this year and it’s not too tough if you practice. All depends on your chops. If you’re triple laterals, double laterals, and octaves (mainly in right hand) are good and you have a good sense of rhythms you should be fine. The solo is deceptively repetitive in terms of patterns, so once you learn the first part of the melody you’re set, just gotta learn the middle section and variations of the pattern. It’s grade 5/6 on Steve Weiss, and it’s a undergrad piece typically, but it rly all comes down to how much you practice and how much you’re chops are developed. If you can play 32nd notes w 4 mallets at 150 bpm (for 1 beat or so) consistently you SHOULD have enough chops, just a matter of endurance
@@goatmagic5220 Thanks a lot! i really appreciate it!
My toxic trait is that as a sophomore I think I could learn this, I mean maybe with lots of tears and difficulty but I doubt it 😭
Anyone know what marimba he was playing on?
Adams Alpha 5.0 Octave with Maple frame (I think maple) and desert resonators!
Around what grade would this be? (Kind of an arbitrary question but still)
Like grade as in Senior?
I'd say it's a grade 1. Looks way too complicated to be anything else.
Ben Rolfe I use a Steve Weissish scale. 1 Would be like Kain or Fry, 2 is Like Yellow After the Rain etc... I'd put it at like a 5. For reference I have Odessa at a 6 and White Knuckle Stroll at a 5.5
white knuckle stroll is harder than odessa
i don't know if you're still wondering but it's a grade 7. It's the most difficult grade.
has anyone tried these mallets?
I have and i love them
Who made the arrangement?
Eric Sammut

@Liam McManus your move
Is a 5 octave necessary for this or would a 4.5 work?
you need a 5 for the low c and low e that is played
you could play it up an octave on a 4.3
Why’d I pick this I might be cooked
When I learned this for my Junior Recital, it took weeks for me to hit a point where it all made sense. Rep for piano also sits weird on marimba, but once you find the patterns the learning curve goes crazy. Hang in there, it’s so worth it!

why the end in piano? WHY?
Swear to god this guy is inhuman
kinda just sounds like his own piece with bits of Libertango, which is amazing in his own right but I wouldn't really call it Libertango
It looks like that the video had been accelerated
Ha! Well it's definitely not!
It really seems accellerated... the movements of the body are unnatural from 0:36 to the end...
@@northcape87 it’s not, plus what part seems unnatural?
I remerber playing this in year 3, pre easy, jus get better i guess😪😪💩💩💩
yeah i played this one in year one mate, atm im playing an 8 mallet peice, get better🍆🍆
