- Okay ladies and gentlemen, here we go! We went ahead and did our best filming a bottom end assembly of a Veloster Turbo G4FJ motor that is destined for the drag strip! There is a lot of information in this video and goes through our process at KDM Tuners when assembling a "built" motor that we are known for. This is bottom end assembly only as the customer is looking to do his own top end work back home. With all the tedious measurements and steps and information given in this video, naturally it is quite long and we apologize we did our best to cut it back but did not want to skimp on information for you! We hope you enjoy the video, let us know what you think, feedback etc. There will definitely be more engine build videos and information to go over for all of you!

Great job .
Best wishes from Egypt
Great to see the attention to detail in this video, can’t wait to rip on the engine you built for me!
We gotta get this channel more subscribers, by far top 10 UA-cam channel out here
Holy shit this little engine is beefed up
I just watched the whole video hahaha. Good information
Just out of curiosity, how much hp would a G4FD motor(the na version of G4FJ) make with a all motor fbo setup? I wonder if the gains would be similar to a b16 series
Did you guys do a video on the top end? Studs etc. Do you use sealant on the head gasket? I've never used it with mls gaskets but I've never built a high hp 4cyl before either. Any tips are greatly appreciated.
Yesssss I'm planning on building a nasty 1.6 2018 rio s ...
Hello.
I have a 2020 Veloster N
Gtx2867 turbo
Etc etc
Made 405whp on 24psi .. on a
dyno with crappy fans (and no cool down time.. sk im sure it makes way more on street)
Anyway.. I’m starting to look around as far as some basic motor upgrade work. I usually run the car on around 21-22 pounds. No need to be on that higher boost range of 24-26(peak) for daily driving.
Anyway ..
Looking at doing the following:
Rods
OEM pistons rings and bearings
ARP head studs
Upgraded springs and retainers (car made its peak power at 7140rpm.. whych is when the dyno operator let off .. tbere was zero start of laying over .. it was still ramping up.. so some added revs IMO worth the head work.
I’m TOLD by my tuner that the OEM pistons wirh forged rods is the way to go due to their experience with motor work on these cars on South Korea (lap3 tuned car)..
they don’t like forged pistons due to the piston wall clearance and the expansion differential on forged pistons .. so there is slap until the motor is warmed up causing faster wear of parts
I’m looking for a balance of added surety to hold the power and a little more .. But also not needing a refresh every year or 2
I won’t be hitting the drag strip all the time .. Im more of a roll dude.
Anyway .. I glad I found your Chanel and have heard about u guys as KDM motor builders
I’d love to talk to u about some of this stuff
As well as costs and turn around time (kknda leanknf toward getting a used long block to send out for building bc my VN is my only car 🤦♂️. Yea. Yea ..
Well.. I have a HD road king but can’t ride in snow in winter ..
Had the big turbo on sinxe Dec.. driven in all of chicagos crazy weather.
Thanks for the video!
Is there a hyundai part number for the g4fj 1.6 turbo Tucson cylinder head? And or is there reliable rebuilders or remanufactured version of the head?
How much do you normally charge to build the engine?
are the normally aspirated 1.6 head the same as the turbo head beside camshaft profiles ?
WOW....
Are you confident it's a perfectly good setup on the GDI turbo engine?
I want to set up about 350 horsepower.
What does the turbine recommend?
Please advise me how to set up an ECU.
I'm seriously thinking about buying it.
박명호 very confident! We have done many of these now. Many over 400whp! We will
Have more videos up if some finished builds shorty. Turbos we like using the Efr 7163 as it gets full boost at 4500rpm and good for 550whp depending on fuel. Ecu tuning we use 845 Motorsports currently
Nicely done...
I'm building a daily driver, is grinding the rod bearings necessary for stock rods?
Did you use the G4FJ service manual values to measure the ring end gap clearance?
Yes and no, we used the services manual as a starting point but have come up with our own values for performance applications. If you are rebuilding the motor for normal use then the service manual specs will work, but when building a performance oriented engine that's when clearances need to be re-considered to align with the goals of what will be asked of the engine.
Hi bro. Im wondering where can i buy tht parts for fully assembly? because im thinking to put tht engine in my kia rio 2018 hatch.
Thank you for making a video 😊😁😁
Never built an engine before. If i fillow this video to a t, will i be able to build my block?
Yep, that was the idea when putting the video together. We tried to show everything involved in bottom end assembly on a G4fj - The result was quite a lengthy video, but it is packed full of useful information that were considered pertinent for someone to use as a guide for their build.
Hi bro, please give me link where this Engine was tested!
Following up on my question below
So why not use Hyundai's OEM bearings? Are the ones you sourced higher strength?
Would you guys ever do Aftermarket Performance Parts for the Hyundai Tiburon if I ever wanted some kind of Aftermarket Performance Parts for a Tiburon like would you guys ever do anything else that period guys
what's your thoughts on the newer G4FJ motors in the sonatas and Elantra n lines? Got a 2019 N line, planning to get about ~300whp with bolt-ons and a tune on a spare ECU. & do I have anything to worry about if the engine warranty just so happens to get voided down the road lol?
No way you’ll get 300whp with just bolt ons. They come with around 185 whp. You’ll never get 60%+ gains in whp with just bolt ons
You’d need turbo upgrade to get 300 whp
Is the bottom end block for early or late Hyundai .. I’ve got an 2005 1.6l can I modified this block an Head Hyundai Accent .. please educate us .. And where your shop located at..
What is the difference between the G4FD & G4FJ?
I like to get the G4FJ KDM Tuners rebuild kit for my G4FD can it be done?
Hello! Structurally the Gamma engines are similar, there are some changes for the turbo application such as cylinder oil squirters etc in the G4fj. Yep, you can build the G4fd with G4fj internals, but the G4fj crankshaft would be needed in the G4fd block to accept the con rods into the G4fd.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at kdmtuners@gmail.com - Thank you!
Why are you torque spec at >20 lbs with a 1/2 torque bar?
1:12:30 A little abrupt of a jump cut and hurrying through an unsure process, lol.
What is the purpose of detanging the bearings?
I have a 2016 hyundai veloster turbo
r spec what will it cost to overhaul the engine
What do you say about G4KH engine,is it worth to get that and tune up to 350-400hp?
How did much power did this engine developed after this setup?
Was the long block altered in any way, bore circumference, deck height, etc???
The block was sleeved by golden eagle, we step deck the block .003. So sleeves are placed in the exact location but we drop the deck height. Then we oring the block as well
Does the kit on the site include the Block?
based on your build notes, are there any improvements to the stock motor that you can recommend for a daily driver?
Hmmm... Head studs would be my first go to if i were to start adding power but not an easy install for most. Shops will charge a bit on those as well... I think properly vented crank cases and catch cans will be great. everything else i can think of would be needing motor to be torn down. I would say the newer motors are not bad.. The quality across the board has gotten better, castings are better on the newer 2016...WHICH.. on the 2016 heads they now use the old NON turbo castings which was an odd move. They removed some of the freeze plugs.. Ill have to ponder this question some more
Are g4fg and g4fj internals interchangeable?
Is that a block guard or was the block sleeved?
This block had a Golden Eagle Mfg Sleeve in it
I see, your videos.very good your videos, the explain, information everything, but I need please web site information for build my veloster 1.6l GDI,please let me know,I live in florida west palm beach
LONGY SUAREZ www.KdmTuners.com
LONGY SUAREZ thank you!!
@@KDMTUNERS What oil viscosity grade did you end up using?
Alright 400 hp Optima 1.6T coming right up lol. Nah the DCT would detonate before that could occur.
Adam Robinson we have a upgraded DCT clutch for that 😉
KDMTUNERS hmm 🤔. How much power can the stock motor take btw?
@@lttsr with a proper tune, ~400WHP. Sxth element has been daily driving a 400whp elantra sport with stock internals for a while now without issues.
Is it just me or does anyone else worry at ua-cam.com/video/GIyM8_mCk3c/v-deo.html with all the oil put on the main bolt dripping down right over the bolt holes he has gained too much oil going down the thread hole he is hydro locking the bolt with so much oil and no where for it to go when torquing .
