Audit the Audit - I appreciate what you do. You must put some time in this project what with having to check local laws and such. Do you know the local policy on how to treat people like this? The cop may appear heartless but was it recommended by policy?

Do they have no mental health training at all? Those women are unprofessional, cruel and ignorant. Heartbreaking!
C H I guarantee they have no certifications other than the few hours it took for them to become EMS workers. They are clearly unprofessional, unhealthy, and pay no attention to protocol. All they want to do is go home and go to sleep. I think they should and never return to their positions. Amen.

You guys think these EMT's are cruel....you should see how the mental health professionals treat their patients in a clinical setting. That's abhorrent! As a society, we don't have patience for people with mental illnesses and dump responsibility on burned out, underpaid professionals seeking to control something in their lives (they control the patients because they can't control their own messed up lives). It's sad.

I’m a Firefighter/ EMT and this broke my heart. Their lack of compassion pissed me off. That poor man didn’t deserve that.
Honestly it’s just place pt in position of comfort and check v/s every 15 minutes en route to the hospital. Easy paperwork easy call, even if he even though he wasn’t talking to them he was calm and for the most part cooperative enough to at least get in the ambulance and let his v/s get checked. I’d chew my partner out if they tried something like this.
@@Raul-is5lt yes! if my partner wouldn’t take the call then I would.
As an EMR and soon to practice and become a PCP, I am heartbroken by the actions of these women and the unnecessary death they brought to this man.
The one chick even fucking laughed “yea he is” like 30s into them chemically mutilating his sinuses.
Wait, were they EMTs or paramedics? The standard for EMT is incredibly low. They basically do CPR and that's about it. It's like a 4 week course to get certified. Paramedics otoh actually have to take some medical school courses.
Imagine if there was NO video of the incident. They would’ve denied ever encountering him. Horrible.
Thank goodness they have body cams to protect themselves. It now protects us too.
@@eciesz Honestly, the only reason all cops don't have body cams, is because they protect us too.
tudeslildude, one Sherriff claimed he didn’t have it because of budget restraints, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. It protects us because law enforcement is presumed to ALWAYS be telling the truth. Yeah, I trust em about as far as I can throw em. It too often is about ego… sad.
@@eciesz I would imagine if we made it a requirement, then with that would hopefully come budget to implement it. So, even that sheriffs excuse wouldn't mean much of anything.
Your totally right though. I remember as a kid playing cops and robbers. Now I guess kids have to play 'armed criminals with a badge vs innocent civilians',
tudeslildude So many incidents happen in Orangeburg County Half the police do not wear body cams and it goes to court with a notion footage was “lost”, or “budgeting did not permit filming”, it never gets disputed so many people in the county cannot fight the police do to terrible policing and the “Us vs. them” mentality they have. The sad thing is that we still honor our GOOD policing that is done and every time you’re stopped, encountered, or near a police in the county; you are worried if a confrontation will arise. They are so agitated it is scary sometimes as a citizen.
"Why don't you trust people in authority?"
People in authority:
The victim had been awarded "Citizen of the Year"! I don't understand how ANYONE would not conclude a mental health crisis 3 minutes after he stepped into the ambulance. People who aren't trained can see this. If that wasn't bad enough, the officer dropping him off at a closed gas station with no phone, no shoes, no shirt in the middle of the night is disgusting. The 2 EMTs and the officer were all co-conspirators resulting in this man's death. The EMTs losing their EMT licenses was not enough. All 3 should be charged with felony manslaughter.
Additionally, the driver of the 18 wheeler said he climbed onto his truck and wouldn't get off for FOUR MILES. Given how he was dressed, why would anyone continue to drive for 4 miles. I had to rewind to watch this again just to make sure I didn't miss something that might give some type of possible reason for how those 3 responded.
Spot on
I have been a Paramedic for over 10 years. I can tell you with absolute certainty that every single female on that ambulance(especially the brunette "ring leader") isn't just unprofessional; they are flat-out neglectful and abusive.
Within the first few minutes of watching this video, it was evident by the man's overall mannerisms that needed to go to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation at the very least. The girls spending all that time on scene demeaning the man and outright threatening him at times was completely unnecessary.
I'm sorry you want to go back to the station and sleep, sweetheart, but the nature of your job dictates that you will help people whenever they need you. It's what you signed up for.
These girls are an absolute embarrassment to the medical field.
Their behavior, along with the officer's, was criminally negligent by statute. They had a duty to act (altered patient), failed to do so, and harm came to the patient. While I get that they thought the cop would take him to mental health or jail, neither is qualified to perform the necessary medical clearance on him like the ER . And releasing him to a lower level of care (the officer) isn't acceptable--they should have insisted that he be taken to the ER. Also, threatening physical harm is also a crime (and usually very counter-productive with suspected psych patients).
I worked as an EMT many years ago and it blows my mind why these first responders did not recognize that a 5150 referral was going to be needed from the ER doctor. There just seemed to be a total lack of situational awareness.
I was a medic for the Army and even if a soldier acted like this during training in the middle of nowhere they would immediately be evacuated to the hospital for severe AMS. These people are so stuck up and selfish. They should be convicted for taking part in his death.

"I'm going to choke you out"? I'm so glad that woman was fired. No place in medicine for people like that.
My girlfriend has seizures which make her non-verbal but she's still conscious and upright. It scares me to think of a situation when someone like this was in charge of her care.
Temporal lobe seizures? I know that is one type that causes a complete lack of affect. I used to care for someone who had them. And when he did he was like a statue.
I also have epilepsy that affect my left temporal lobe which makes me either unable to speak or start speaking in gibberish. It will also often cause me to begin wandering around aimlessly. In one instance, my mom and I had just gotten to her house when I had a seizure and began wandering through her front yard, she had to come grab me since I nearly walked out into the street. It is nearly identical in what the person in this video is displaying, just following directions but being unresponsive and unable to speak. Even if they weren't recognizing mental health, basic training teaches them how to identify seizure activities which that alone should have made them take him to the hospital. Their absolute lack of concern or attempted assistance is disgusting, all three medics and the cop should be put on trial for manslaughter; their lack of actions directly caused his death.

I've been in psychosis before where I looked exactly like this man did: confused, silent, lost. People would yell at me to look them in the eyes and to tell them what was wrong. This only made things worse and would get me even more stuck in my psychosis. As a social worker and someone who has experienced these psychosis symptoms, this video breaks my heart.
Question out of curiosity: do you remember those moments... how you were treated and what was said?
@@rats2themoon I mostly just remember feeling very confused. I didn't understand exactly what was going on. I knew I was panicking, but I didn't know why. I vividly remember one time when it happened while I was at school. I believe I started looking around me in confusion, because suddenly I didn't know anymore what I was supposed to do. I started crying and breathing heavily. My friend noticed and took me outside of the classroom to the hallway, so I could take my time to calm down. My teacher got very worried and started panicking as well, because I couldn't explain to him what was happening. He kept yelling at me to look at him and tell him what was wrong, but I couldn't. I couldn't get my eyes to focus and I couldn't find the words to explain what was wrong. My friend was sitting next to me and tried to explain to him that he just needed to calm down and allow me to calm down from my panic first, but he wouldn't listen to her. I don't remember exactly how it ended. I think at some point he must have given up or something, I can't recall. But I do remember him yelling at me and how concused I felt. I really did want to cooperate, but I just couldn't. I felt very afraid in that moment.

@@marlieskonijnenburg-ruisch2225 Your description is fantastic. I was in a car crash years ago and found myself in a concussed, unresponsive state that I think is very similar. It was like being locked in my own body, or sleep-walking, where I was literally unable to participate in conversation because I couldn't even process what was going on around me.
I also had EMS giggling and making snarky comments they thought I wasn't able to understand, and that frustration/anger somehow made talking even more impossible. Or made me not even want to try.
It blows my mind how first responders, social workers, etc. often have no idea how to effectively break through mental shutdowns like this.

This is sad. I hope it’s changed the direction of these people’s lives to make better decisions in the future.
I've been a paramedic for nearly 30 years and this is absolutely beyond the pale.
I was gonna say, my experiences with paramedics has been vastly better than my experiences with cops. I used to be a junkie with lots of junkie friends so I had a lot of experiences with both.
Generally the EMTs were very courteous and professional during OD calls - saved a couple friends' lives. While at the same time calming me down as I freak out about my friend's near death. Even though you could tell it was like they're fifth heroin OD call of the night.
But they treated us as human beings. One even gave me some narcan, which at the time I knew was illegal where I live. But they knew those laws were stupid and they knew giving junkies narcan to have on us was the best way to save our lives. They treated us like human beings.
Conversely cops generally treated us like scum that deserved to OD in the street. And they were always looking for ways to bring charges, even though we just called for help, help that would be unnecessary if the government allowed narcan to be accessible to junkies. Thankfully things have gotten better, but damn some of those cops were cruel.

Twenty years here. Totally agree. So much easier to just be nice, and transport people.
Why did they not just take him to a hospital after a few minutes?
As a EMT for 12 years, I still treat every call as it is my first. These EMTs and police officer treated this patient as a routine drug related call. Nothing in this profession is ever routine. Treat all calls as if they were your first. If you do that you'll never miss these mental health cues.
Very sage advice, thank you!

Yeah, but I think the presence of the cop complicated the situation. The EMT's deferred to the cop -- he seemed to be in control of the final decision. Most of the medical people I've known have not been held accountable... in fact I've been kidnapped by a police officer who lied, illegally placed in a mental ward, and held against my will. There was even a LAYWER who said there was nothing that could be done... despite every lawyer and person I mentioned this too after said this entire event was impossible and illegal.
My friend's grandpa was killed by medical professionals after she heard them say they didn't want to take care of him anymore. They happened to change his dose and killed him "by accident"

This is for two major reasons, the most important is creating a defense, a tail to chop off so to speak, and more importantly power in numbers as everyone can stand together and argue against any claims.
When a large number of EMTs do this, it is likely because the higher ranking ones who hired them were looking for people willing to filter out people for a higher profit at less self cost. (Possibly even paid extra to do just that.)
This applies to any job though such as police, or even store workers... and there is a 3rd reason why this happens.

Literally screw all those medics. Me and my lifeguard certificate would've done so much better
They're all a part of a death cult.
As an EMT and Volunteer Firefighter...this pisses me off on a multitude of levels.
1st. Smelling salts placed IN the nose is basically torture. I've used them. One whiff is painful.
2nd. A lack of pain response to the smelling salts is immediately a warning sign of cognitive/nervous system impairment. That alone should have been an immediate rapid transport to a hospital.
3rd. Yes EMTs are supposed to ask questions to gather important information so that they can better treat a patient. However, the process should have gone like this, "Sir, Sir, can you tell me your name?"
(Patient is conscious but non verbal and seems to be in a dissociative state)
[Use smelling salts]
(Patient lacks pain response)
[In my head] -Since it is almost impossible to naturally ignore the reaction to smelling salts, this patient is most likely under the affects of a drug, having a cognitive emergency, possible stroke, or has extremely low or extremely high blood glucose levels.
[Does baseline vitals]
(All vitals are in normal ranges)
[Potential Stroke, Cognitive Emergency, and drug affects are still possible]
(Since none of the remaining possibilities can be treated in an ambulance we need to get this patient to a hospital immediately)
[Patient is strapped down for his and our safety, the cop is informed her can follow us to the hospital and continue his investigation there following medical treatment]
THAT IS WHAT SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED! 5 minutes max after he was admitted into the ambulance he should have been on his way to a hospital.
Me with a 1st aid certificate would have done more. Never leave a person like that alone ever.
Me and my basic first aid certificate would have done a lot better!!!

I was the subject of an emergency medical response recently. My epiglottis had swelled and become paralyzed and my uvula had swelled and triggered my throat to try to swallow which closed on it and made it extremely difficult to breathe. I shoved my fingers down my throat and manually kept my airway clear. When they finally showed up, I couldn't speak and had to write everything with my one free hand. I tried to tell them it felt like I had swallowed my uvula and the three of them started trying to argue with me saying that it was impossible while, mind you, I am gagging, belching, and drooling all over the floor. Thankfully I was visiting my parents and my mom interjected and got them into gear helping my situation. On the way to hospital one guy kept trying to tell me that it was nothing and to take my hands out of my mouth. I refused cause I was actively keeping my airway clear. I got left in the hallway of the er for what felt like 1-2 hours. Apparently I had been listed as "walking wounded". When a nurse finally showed up and took a look she ran off to find a doctor they moved me into a room and hit me up with steroids and a bunch of other junk. They said if it didn't work they would have to intubate. I then got stuck up in the ICU for a week. "Walking wounded" shouldn't prompt a response like that. So yeah this guy getting treatment like this doesn't particularly shock me.

Their ONLY goal should've be to check his vitals and make sure he's physically okay. The fact that they completely ignored all of the blatant symptoms of mental illness should be criminal.
I'm literally nauseated after watching this.
To the woman who shoved the salts up into his nose and left them there: You deserve the same and I hope you're not an EMT anymore. You're pathetic.
To the woman who threatened to choke him out: You chose to be an EMT. How dare you threaten to choke this unwell man with a fucking stethoscope. I'm glad you're no longer an EMT. You don't deserve to be.
To the woman who basically stood around not speaking up about this terrible treatment: Shame on you, you coward.
To the cop...I wish things upon you that I won't even type out in a youtube comment.
unreal. i am speechless with the behaviour of the
'so-called professionalism",. the paramedics were atrocious and complete bootlickers! why wasn't the police officer fired as well?
Excellent question! I feel he should be fired and charged with manslaughter. I have no doubt that young man would be alive today if they just took him to the damn hospital. It seems the police always find themselves innocent of any wrongdoing. They really need an outside agency to determine right from wrong where the police are involved. They literally get away with murder.
"I am a very patient man" says the person who takes the other man with him and abondons him just about 15 minutes later. What a shame...
*“Amma drive you somewhere safe, I just want you to be safe.”*
**leaves him in a closed gas station parking lot**
15 miles from where he was picked up no less. Left with no shoes, no shirt - just basketball shorts and obviously not able to care for himself. You know what else was right there 15 miles away? The county line. Deputy Dingus probably hoping he'd wander into the next county so he could go back to the substation and go to sleep like he said.
I live near Orangeburg, SC, I am a nurse practitioner, and i cannot believe what I just saw. Thank God I don't need EMS. The lack of compassion in healthcare today is obvious in this audit. How dare those ladies act like they were inconvenienced by someone needing their help! THATS YOUR JOB! Thank God they stripped that lady of her certification. To threaten to choke someone who was obviously (to any trained professional) suffering a psychotic episode is criminal neglect. I would gladly testify against these ladies. This man died because of their negligence.
Oh, look here. Why have "trained professionals" who can't do a medical emergency exam until they know the guys name. What the hell does the guys name have to do with what's wrong with him.
Initially it doesn’t hurt to ask to maybe check his medical records, but after him remaining silent for several minutes they should have gotten over their obsessive compulsiveness and taken the blatant clue that he was in serious mental condition. Total idiots, have no respect.
@True Imposter Ya , that makes sense, they need someone to feed the system revenue, who better than a sick/hurt citizen's.
Shameful really.
@True Imposter oh fuck that id sue. Bloody nose? Im not impaired to bd unable to call myself, i didnt request an ambulance. The person who called pays. You can go to a bar and buy a drink for someone else then force them to pay thats absurd
Some instances they use the ability to tell your name, the date, and the current president as a way to establish mental stability. I could not tell here what they were asking his name for though
when i heard the outcome i was speechless
If i was any of those first responders i would be forever ashamed of my actions
I sincerely hope it keeps them up at night
That woman had no business working with EMS.
George Kraft that woman ??how about those women and that deputy??
@@williamstevenson2166 right the whole lot of them were horrible!
@Monster Fueled That was a ploy to invoke a verbal response.
@@Chief-Spectre well they kept that act up the whole time and still got nothing. They should have recognized that something wasn't right with him. I get you have to try different methods but when you have mental illnesses then you know to try something different every minutes after said ploy doesn't work. They could of said. You know what officer his BP went from 124/90 something to 160 over 120 we are going to take him to the hospital. That was a total screw up on EVERY ONE of their parts.
The officer dropped him off out of his jurisdiction so he didn't have to deal with him. He should of brought him to the jail and got him identified to get him home safely. Someone/ family could of been called to come get this young man.
The lack of willingness to see that there was something seriously wrong and not take the safer route to get him SAFE, as the officer kept saying all he wanted to do for him, is disgusting and shows a lack of empathy and obviously too long of time on the job that they just don't care anymore
"Blood pressure is 160/70. Patient is giving unnatural responses to questions. He randomly becomes unresponsive. Smelling salts produce no reaction. Yeah, I think we should throw him out, he's good."
There should be a grade lower than F. They like... actually committed an act of negligent manslaughter just now. Holy crap.
They are quick to put signs in their front yard "A hero lives here", a sign of narcissism. Monsters.
They seriously do that?
@@jessewilliams6459 Absolutely
Anyone who would put a sign in their yard declaring themselves a hero is beyond the pale. If somebody in my family did that FOR ME, I'd thank them enormously for the gesture but ask them to remove it.
That’s what they think they are even when they beat or kill innocent people. The amount of EGO from most cops is sick
leaving the smelling salt in his nose like that must burn. I've had smelling salts used, it was held in front of me for just a few seconds and it burned my nose and eyes. this is outrageous.
Well there were more pressing matters. Such as asking "What's your name?"
@@luxintenebris1776 This. Even if you didn't think psych, the Pt is non-verbal, unable to follow commands, fluctuating GCS, and needs to be evaluated. This would've been an immediate and easy transport decision. Idiots like those are why ammonia inhalants aren't in our protocols anymore.
Clear case of Pt abandonment.
@@luxintenebris1776 I hate to break it to you bro but all of the procedures and stuff you should do in a situation like this goes away when someone wants to go to sleep.
I work in a mental health facility and these so called professional are clueless and don’t have the empathy for the job.
This case is exceptionally heartbreaking to me. My mother has been schizoeffective since before I was born and we moved in with her parents (my grandparents) when I was 7yrs old in Orangeburg County, just 10-20 miles away from where this happened!
Because she had not received a diagnosis yet (though she’d been showing symptoms for 8-9yrs), it took a while to get a definitive diagnosis. She was treated at the hospital in Orangeburg (The Regional Medical Center-TRMC) for over 10yrs on and off. They have a psychiatric ward called The Rose Center, but the psychiatrist over it (Dr Lawson) was awful. It wasn’t until we transferred her care to Aiken, SC that she was finally put on medications that have kept her stable for almost 20yrs now! She hasn’t been hospitalized for psychosis since, where she was hospitalized at least 3x a year before then.
When I was 12, she ran out in front of a truck going 55mph in a suicide attempt while going through a psychotic episode. She nearly died and had to learn to walk again 6 months into her recovery and she continues to have nerve damage.
I’m so thankful that she lived and has been stable for so long now. It breaks my heart that this fella didn’t get that chance. I know what his family went through. There’s no really support system for people with mental illness and their families in that area.

I don't see how the deputy still has a job after this.
@James Packer The deputy absolutely has the authority to evaluate the subject and make a determination that he isn't mentally competent. They received 911 calls about his behavior on the interstate. Once contact is made anyone with half a brain can see this guy isn't right and can't be left by himself out on the interstate. The deputy should have taken the subject to the hospital himself for a mental evaluation if rescue was too incompetent to do it. The deputy is equally responsible in this totally avoidable situation. I know this because i am a current law enforcement officer of 16 years.
@James Packer Well it's possible things operate that way where you reside. Different rules in different parts of the country but in Florida the deputy, seeing that Ems didn't do their job is still required to do something to save that guy from himself.
@James Packer well im not sure what the court system will do here if an officer were to do what that deputy did but i can guarantee he'd definitely be fired from his department, Failure to do duty.
Ever been to the U.S.? This is par for the course in many areas.
@James Packer Sorry , but I call bullshit. They said hospital or jail. Then The deputy just drops him in the middle of nowhere to die. Fuck him!
Hey, ATA. Please post more clips like this one. Don't get me wrong. I love the intentional/unintentional Auditor clips. They're entertaining and very informative (and thankfully mostly innocuous), but people need to see more of this...... as hard as it was to watch.
