Something to keep in mind. Let’s just say the firewood bundle with the labor etc. cost you $2.50 to package it up. The other competitors are over seven dollars, you’re at five dollars. If you would raise your price to seven dollars and have a demonstration like is on the tailgate of your truck, you might lose a few customers but you would probably double your profit. Let that sink in, you’re selling less wood, making more money, doing less work but your profit is higher. Just a thought.
Double your price if you haven’t already. Better wood, delivery, more wood, local, family owned. That bndl EZ worth $10, at least your price shouldn’t be cheaper than what’s at your local market. This is cool though good stuff !
Brad, I started watching your videos a year ago, and you inspired my boys and I to start a firewood business. We get the free hardwood scrap cutoffs from local cabinet and door manufacturing shops, cut them up and bundle them. We are out west, so hardwood is hard to come by. All the firewood at the gas stations is white pine that shoots sparks like fireworks, so oak and poplar are hard to come by for campfire wood. My boys make 20 pound bundles and sell the poplar for $10 each or 4 for $30 and the oak $15 each or 4 for $15. Business is good. Thanks for the inspiration.
I have an idea, in every bundle add 2 hand fulls of kindle and a free fire starter cube, when i say free i mean value added, even an elderly lady can handle that bundle, and start a fireplace or stove, one match light. On back of label print how to have a safe effective fire one match, for city slickers.Yer welcome, good luck, great job !
I've told these woodhounds a dozen times or more how good wrapped bundles look with a professional looking flyer in it and not one of them ever listened. For some reason they love the bags no matter what the cost. Yeah many of the big chain hardware and convenient store chains that have wood brought in from other places face FDA regulations on top of the cost and I think the wood has to be kiln dried to lower the evasive species risk. Here in upstate Ny you can sell your firewood within 50 miles of point of harvest. You get caught crossing state lines without the fda papers it's big trouble. I just subscribed so I'll see how it goes here.
Yup I use shrink wrap also. Your home made bundler looks just like mine. I think they sell store bought wood for more because it has to be kiln dried and USDA approved. Kills the bugs and fungus. Nice job keep selling those bundles
You have my respect for all the work you have done and put in to build this business, you’ve seen what the competitors are selling and your trying to make a difference in your area while gaining a profit. Keep it up man and I hope it’s still going well!
I got carpet tunnel hand wrapping a couple thousand bundles in a year. Bought the "Go Fast" wrapper for 2k delivered. 100% worth the investment. Yes you are giving value with a large bundle. But sometimes people aren't strong enough to carry it. I think mine are .75 face sf and can still get pretty heavy.
Something you might also consider: Kindling wood. When splitting, I often end up with a pretty good pile of kindling wood from stuff that comes off the wood. Person buys 10 bundles, throw in a bundle of kindling wood to help them start their fires.
LOL already doing that. The kids pick them up and we have a drying area. We put them in small clam bags along with a homemade fire starter made from saw dust and wax
I love simplicity and cheap ways of doing things. This was a refreshing video on how to make most of what you got through by being industrious! Keep it up, and keep us all posted on your progress.
FYI your selling by the cubic foot, not sqft. 12"x12"x16", is 1.33 cubic feet, which = to $480 per. cord. Thx for the video, great idea on the homemade stand & I like you price point.
Hi Brad, Your honesty and integrity is going to result in you getting far more orders than you can imagine and along with that comes more and more work time. Before you know it you will be working 7 days a week and 12+ hours per day trying to fill the orders as repeat customers come back again and again.
I built a bundle frame modeled after yours. So glad I did! I was using a modified 5 gallon bucket and fighting it every bundle. Now my square bundles are easy to stack and look professional. Bundle business is really ramping up for me up in the PNW. Thank you for the idea, and the great videos!

Great looking bundles! I do the same thing, my buddy welded my wrapper together and has a "T" stand for the bottom and is about the same height but I wanted a center support area so I can wrap on both ends and so far its worked out great. Mine also is 1CF but I sell them for 10 bucks, our local Lowes, HD and convenience stores are selling .6CF for 8-9.50 for that size. Im going to really focus on firewood next season and do less landscaping, Just bought a 2019 T590 skid steer and getting a grapple for it come spring so I have everything I need plus the tree company we work with, his dump yard is 5 minutes from my shop and all the wood I can cut for free and if thats not enough to persuade me to do more wood is another friend of mine is a log buyer and can get me log trucks of hardwood poles for 200 bucks!!!

Firewood bundles sold at convenient stores and such places here must to be kiln dried before it is legal to sale. It must be kiln dried to kill insects and fungus to keep them from being spread from one area to another. At camp grounds in the Nation Forest here also you do not want to be caught with "store bought" non kiln dried bundled wood, or leaving any of it behind (even partially burnt wood). It all must be taken with you when you leave.
I was going to also do 1cft of hardwood just felt they were a little heavy as my wife could barely pick it up. So made me think of older folks also. I go with the .75cft unless someone wants bigger sizes. Just starting my self though also. Great video!
Thanks Dan. Yes they are a little heavier. I haven’t had any complaints yet. I think the $5 deal offsets the weight maybe? Lol. Thanks for stopping by. Good luck to you on your sales!
Nice system you got for the bundles Brad! We use the bags and you are right about the added cost. .70 cents a bag is about the cheapest I have found them. We sell the bundles for $6 a piece to offset the cost of the bags. I am considering trying the plastic wrap method as well in the future to see what people prefer? 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks. I think Scheib did that a while back. I think the customers like bags because they are easier to carry but the lower cost has an appeal as well. I think they both have pros and cons
@@FirewoodattheFurnace Yes I remember Scheib making that video but I don’t remember seeing the follow up conclusion. In the bags defense they are very durable! We really like them.
Great video! I was looking for bundler plans so I could make one myself. This is the perfect inexpensive solution since I'm just starting out. Thanks very much!!
This is a terrific process and invention. Nice work! Thanks for sharing, have a potential commercial bundle client and couldn't "wrap" my head around it.
I live in Indiana and I also sell firewood year-round for the winter I sell truckloads to homeowners and in the summer I sell bundles to a lot of folks living in campgrounds along the river and there are literally almost 100 campgrounds in a 50 mile stretch of the Ohio River and that's just on the Indiana side. I am the same price as you $5 a bundle but I offer a wholesale price if they take 20 bundles. Yours definitely look more professional I don't have labels, I'd like to find out how to get labels that look that nice. And I use the plastic Baler twine, two on each bundle 4 ft long. Another problem I have to deal with is I sell to gas stations to retail to the public. Apparently there is a weights and measurements inspector that comes around checking these kind of things and they want an approximate weight of each bundle so I'm very interested in finding out where I can get some labels made
I had my labels made at vistaprint.com In Maryland they do not weigh the wood but you are required to mark it with the amount of wood in the bundle (1 cu. Ft.)
Awesome looking bundles along with your information and great way to do the comparison of chain store bundle wood. Glad to see it's taking off good for you and now it's just trying to keep up on supply
I know you posted this a year ago but I’m only seeing it now. Great sturdy design for the bundler. I’m also about not adding extra costs that people are just going to throw away. Been doing firewood since Nov 2021 after my wife bought a firewood stack for $15 that would barely burn because it wasn’t seasoned 😂 I want to build a firewood stand and put it at the front of my driveway.
Guys, do you have your own forests or buy wood? I'm thinking should I start it too - I have some forests here in Central Europe, now firewood is crazy expensive, maaaaany people builded holiday houses so there are more and more potential clients.

Nice looking bundles! Im also new at it this year and is taking off fast! I did start out with the mesh bags but will be switching over to wrap soon due to cost savings and I like the idea of adding the company logo flyer.
I live 150ft off the only two lane highway in my area...I can't ever hear myself think, unless it is 4am! As a side note I was watching your video because UA-cam has been recommending these to me left and right. A month ago a tornado blew down 85% of the mature trees on our 18 acres. I have anywhere from 700 to 900 full cord of wood laying on the ground. Always wanted to do my own firewood business but nobody wants to cut their own trees. Now I have no excuse LOL
I charge $2.00 per piece off the pile and $20.00 per 12 piece bundle..... Fuel prices are rising daily and firewood is fuel..... and my wood is covered so it's even a better deal . Good luck with your business !!
Thanks. Not sure where your from but I’ve never seen it that high. I know I’m cheap and will be making an adjustment soon. Fuel prices are crazy for sure. Thanks for watching
Great video Brad. I built a 13” X 13” rack for my bundles and also sell for $5. The local 7-11 2 blocks away sells $7.99 or 2 for $12.50 and yes, their bundles are .75 cu ft or smaller. Just started selling this May myself and trying to grow the business. Lots and lots of dead Ash trees here in Western New York. Be safe !! Doug at NSF
Been there dun that, you can make some money but its to much wood for a good price! You have an advantage more than I did and thats the fire pits for the patio, that has become popular, I only had winter sales!!! best of luck! contact me back for further advice!
Brother if you want to make a living doing firewood my advice to you is get you a fast processing plant start with a small one for about eight or ten thousand dollars. And that will up your production by yourself to at least 4 or 5 cords a day.. I'll tell you what I found out this winter and that is your price on it matters a little but what matters more than anything else is your ability to deliver within 24 hours because of the weather crisis but I'm in Eastern Kentucky Southeast Kentucky. I've sold 111 towards between Thanksgiving and New Year's
That’s awesome Donnie. It’s still kind of just a hobby for me and as much as a processor would be great, it’s hard to justify that cost. You gotta sell a whole lot of firewood to justify it. I’m retired and just doing it to keep busy, get a little exercise and occupy my mind. I appreciate your advice though. Keep cutting!
Love the labels, Very professional I just made one of these up with a arm the other day. Would be easy to add to yours! Saves the back on wrapping them by hand. Videos on my channel .
Great vid, Brad. Well done and very informative. You have made a good case by using the stretch wrap. I'm leanin' that way now. Once again, well done!!! WST
5 a bundle is over $600/cord. THAT is the way to maximize profit out of firewood ! Sell every stick you can this way before you ever get into truck load volume, because you'll be flying to net half that much money.
I live in Florida now this time of the year firewood guys set up along big roads when everyone’s going home. They sell an overloaded wheelbarrow for $20.00, some guys have one or two wheelbarrows and some 5 or 6 ready to go. Sell it while you can because the Democrats are trying to make it illegal.
I skimmed through the comments quickly, and didn't see where anyone has said this yet, but 12"x12"x16" is 1.33cf. Sounds like you may be giving some firewood away. 10x10x16 is around .97cf. Hope the bundling endeavor is paying off for you. Looking at starting my own around my area & gathering up ideas.
Good-looking bundles for a great price compared to your competition. I like the info/business card you made up. It looks very neat and professional. Do you put the size/volume of the wood on your label? Here in Canada, I believe we're required to by weights and measures.
Sorry for the loss of your dad, I lost my dad 10 years ago. Like you mentioned about the eagle coming around you feel like your dad is present, I too have the same feeling with my dad being present. Keep up the amazing work.
Stay safe, 🪓🪵🌲
Thanks so much and welcome to the channel. I appreciate your kind words. I will think about him every day for the rest of my life I’m sure. I’m glad your enjoying the content and I’m thankful for the support
Nice looking bundles! Im also new at it this year and is taking off fast! I did start out with the mesh bags but will be switching over to wrap soon due to cost savings and I like the idea of adding the company logo flyer.
Awesome. I’m glad it helped out and good luck to you! Welcome to the channel and thanks so much for taking the time to send a comment.
Gah..I bet you can't hear yourself think!
Loud highway!
Thanks for the video.
Now I have no excuse LOL
nice looking wood.
Good looking bundles Brad!👍🏻
Thanks Rod
Outstanding. Keep up the good work.
Great how to video on making bundles Brad! I want to sell firewood bundles as a hobby to keep me busy.
Looks Good! Good job brother. Hope it works out for ya!
GREAT VIDEO !
Thank you
I charge $2.00 per piece off the pile and $20.00 per 12 piece bundle.....
Great video, thanks for sharing!!!
Thanks for watching!
Enjoyed the video Brad. Very informative. I hope to do the same soon. Wood is seasoning now. Keep up the great work.
Be safe !! Doug at NSF
Thanks Doug. Appreciate the support. Good luck with your business venture. I’m sure you’ll do great. Thanks for watching!
Get your ash cut, split and stacked up. It's considered one of the best firewoods. It's easy to sell it when you have it ready
Been there dun that, you can make some money but its to much wood for a good price! You have an advantage more
than I did and thats the fire pits for the patio, that has become popular, I only had winter sales!!! best of luck! contact me back
for further advice!
Appreciate the feedback! Learning as I go and just having fun with it
Awesome!!
WST
Lol don’t tell back 40. He’s committed to the bags 😂
@@FirewoodattheFurnace Trust me, I won’t say a thing!! 🤣
hi there looks real good john
Seems to be the way to go
Pretty cool👍thanks
Nicely done!
Nice set up
Love the videos keep wm vmcoming
Great job starting your business.
Thanks so much
Great job.
5 a bundle is over $600/cord. THAT is the way to maximize profit out of firewood ! Sell every stick you can this way before you ever get into truck load volume, because you'll be flying to net half that much money.
Nice!👍
Good stuff here. Thanks!!!!🌳💚👍👊
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
Great show
I live in Florida now this time of the year firewood guys set up along big roads when everyone’s going home. They sell an overloaded wheelbarrow for $20.00, some guys have one or two wheelbarrows and some 5 or 6 ready to go. Sell it while you can because the Democrats are trying to make it illegal.
New subscriber here. Well thought out process and well done video. “Keep on Keeping on!” Tim
Thanks Tim. Appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment
Yes definitely at least 1 cu. Ft. And normally a little more.
@@FirewoodattheFurnace Where did you get your labels made??
Thank you
Wow ive never seen you without the beard. This is weird. The voice is familiar, but the face doesnt match what im used to. lol GREAT VIDEO!!!
Lol yes very different
Nice video! I'm considering doing this myself.
Go for it!
Best place to get labels
Vistaprint.com is where I designed and ordered mine from. I like the thicker stock of the postcard rather than regular paper
Great job as usual .
Just came over from the driftless homestead new subs here
Hello and welcome!
@@FirewoodattheFurnace love the firewood videos it’s crazy how different others are from what our wood cutting is like I love learning about new ways
Good-looking bundles for a great price compared to your competition. I like the info/business card you made up. It looks very neat and professional. Do you put the size/volume of the wood on your label? Here in Canada, I believe we're required to by weights and measures.
yes, the label shows 1 cu. ft. and has my contact email. Thanks for your kind words and for watching.
@@FirewoodattheFurnace a cubic foot is 12 x 12 x 12. You are selling 12 x 12 x 16 which is 1.33 cubic feet.
