Mike and Melissa, U could add a sheet of paper, or similar, with your OUTDOORS WITH THE MORGANS logo in the first wrap. Then the subsequent wraps would seal it in and still be highly visible for your product. Love your channel.
One advantage of the bagged firewood is that when you only use a partial bundle, you have the bag to neatly hold what was not used. With the wrap, once you remove the wrap, you have to somehow store the remaining pieces of wood.
Hey Melissa I remember Shrinky Dinks. They were in our Corn Flakes. We'd sign our names a cook them in the oven and poke a hole in them and use them as name tags fir our school bags and stuff. ❤from Australia 🇦🇺
Hey bud, I like both bundling systems, you can use the bags for friends and neighbors, and shrink rap for where people are going to grab and go. I would make 2 suggestions 1, your drop off pallet needs to be higher so you don't have to bend down every time . (Bending down every time will kill your back). Also, on the bags tie a bow instead of a double knot. People may not take the time to undo a double knot and just cut the knot just something to think about. 😊😊😊😊
Glad you said it as well. Can’t remember how many times I said when he was on the sawmill, get it raised up. Bending the back incorrectly sure does hurt.
Technically Mike, the plastic wrap is not “shrink wrap” which is usually thicker and designed to contract when heated. The wrapper uses a self-adhering thin wrap. Picky, picky…😂 Your videos have become a regular viewing, thanks.
Honesty outweighs anything when it comes to any side hustle, business hands down !!!!!! If you want returning customers you will treat them right !!!!! It all works out !!!!! Everyone is happy !!!!!! Thanks you all for the videos and keeping us up to date !!!!!
We just did a sales study between ages and bundles at a new roadside stand! Results will be posted in our video Saturday morning. Pros and cons to each.
Hey, Mike and Melissa! Hope you guys are doing well! My customers prefer the bags for ease of lifting and moving around. I've also got them "semi trained" to return them for refills! That dramatically cuts down on the cost of the bags!
I always look forward to your post. When I'm online every morning, I see when Mike post them at 8:00 sharp! I wouldn't expect him to post it at 8:01 am. 😄 Keep those updates coming Mike, love them!
Good morning Mike and Melissa, it's really looking good around there. Glad everything is working out for you folks and sure hope the storms pass over your W Va property. We are still in the OVEN down here in Deep East Texas working on our record number of consecutive above 100 degree days, today will be our 18th day. Mike, I like the firewood bundler over the bagger. Reason being is that the bundler is at waist level and requires no bending over. Shrink wrap is cheaper and readily available. The bagger requires alot of bending over and the chance of wood hitting your legs with possible injury to feet or legs when rotating tube with wood into bag. Also, bags are alot more priceline. Shrink wrap also shows quality of wood versus not really being able to see the wood quality thru bag.
Thanks Mike! I have bought and used both . I like the warp better . The bag , the wood will not just comeout.the splinters and such hang on the bag . Now you have to cutthe bag up to get the woodout . A big pain in the a. The wrapnot a problem . I will take the wrap any day !! Thanks !
Mike it’s the bags for me. The initial investment for me was a 100 pack of bags and a 5 gallon bucket with the bottom cut out. Under 100 bucks. I may upgrade one day. But this works out for now.
M2, I get as high as 26MPG on my 2019 Duramax 2500 (with 120,000 miles on it). Mileage has steadily improved over age. I typically get 22 to 23 on my way to work. Hauling a trailer with equipment obviously will lower your mileage. I can't comment from experience on a 3500 but you will get much improved performance as the truck ages. I'm getting way better mileage than my old 1500 Silverado which averaged 16 MPG over it's 11 years that I owned it. Best of luck. Love your content. PJH
Once the wrap is open, or even one piece is removed, that's it - it's done. A bag lets you keep a partial bundle. A bag left out in the rain will dry. Water under the plastic will stay a while. As you mentioned, you're new at the Wolf Ridge. It's one of those things that after 25 bundles muscle memory kicks in, and from dump to pallet will be only a matter of seconds. Your hands will be a blur! 😁
Got my Amish bundler last year and getting my Wolfe Ridge bagger today. Both have their own advantages depending on someone's operation, and neither needs electric. The bags provide an automatic handle and you can put miscellaneous sizes, chunks, misfits, etc in them. You can always put a small pallet/skid under the bag when it drops for less bending over. Also if two people are working the bagger, one can load while the other ties. Add a firestarter or two into the bag and adjust your prices accordingly!
Thanks so much for sharing Mike! Very good comparison between 2 very popular options for folks to increase their profit margins in the firewood market! Hope to see you and Melissa soon!
Excellent job with the comparison between the two bundling models and can’t wait for your mileage comparisons when you get the chance to use the Ford for towing ❤😊😮
- Agree with your comparison summary of the two both kind of equal on time and convenience. Investing in either one is driven by intent, occasional household convenience or commercial production. I’d stack on ground and use bailing twine 😊 - I bought the Z-Bart undercoat protection for my 4Runner. Initially thought a wasted added expense but the follow up services are reassuring protection for a big $ vehicle.
Dura Max 's ECM is pre programed to do its own "Tune ups" and you can also buy "Chips" for them And the allison trans does the same... you can also LOCK the Torque Converter on the hiway or in My case... if your is a Diesel Drag Racing Club Your engine will re-tune at 5k
Would have enjoyed seeing you at Boonville this year. The last time I got to meet you was 3 years ago. The life of a working man often gets in the way of enjoyment. Maybe next year.
I’ve sold probably close to 30,000 bundles of firewood all wrapped either .75 or 1 cft. Only problem I’ve had is depending how long the sit before getting delivered on how long they sit on the rack at the store the wrapping can become loose. Plus factor in delivery time on bundles getting loose. I see the bags as a lot better option but I haven’t ever used them. I’m curious which way you go but I’d lean towards bags. Have a blessed day!
My powerstrokes and her duramax all got crapy milage until they got broke in and then they averaged 22 mpg. My cab and chassis was gearded different than the pick ups for pulling purposes and it got around 19mpg. Know matter what the sticker says if your working and pulling with a truck your going to burn more fuel, they should rate them both ways!. When ever I've bought a truck it wasnt for mileage it was its pulling power and durability.
Mike, thank you for the comparison. I agree with you, the bag is definitely sustainable/reusable and has a better presentation, but can't argue with cost for shrink wrap. Fortunately, we have plenty of trees on our property to process our own firewood (we do not need to purchase), but this does provide excellent incentive to start selling some. Small quantities, of course, since we are cutting and splitting manually. Another great segment, thank you.
Come on Mike, you were 4 feet further from the pallet with the Wolf Ridge and slow walked to the pallet.😅😅😅😅 Love the comparisons you do, thanks for the content. jj
My 2000 F350 Dually 4x4 Crew Cab 7.3 Power Stroke pulling a 28 ft CM (steel not aluminum) gooseneck trailer full of construction tools and supplies got between 9-11 MPG depending on winds but it was chipped and had after market exhaust. Without a trailer on the HWY I regularly saw 13 - 15 MPG and even got 16-17 MPG on trips to Colorado at higher elevations which is better than the 12-13 MPG I get with my current F150 4x4 Crew Cab.
8/10/23; yes Mike, great info/comparison on yur firewood bundling units. I kinda like the WR (black) unit better; no 110v needed & seemed a little bit faster. Stay safe & carry on!👍
Thanks for the video Mike. I am getting a new log splitter next month. I want to do either bags or bundles in a few wood stands. Thanks for the information. Can't wait to show my new wood splitter on my channel. It's like a kid waiting on Christmas. LOL.
I remember "Shrinky Dink" They still sell them. Use #6 clear plastic food containers and color with perm markers cut your shape and put in oven about 350* place on parchment paper. The bagger is the way to go. You can put your ad on it.
A faster way to tie those bags is to reach through the loops and grab diagonally - pull through, snug up, and then do the same thing again. Learned that trig bagging groceries, works great.
I have seen firewood videos showing the orange plastic bags deteriorating due to being in the sun for a short time. Try them, but I suggest you don't buy too many to start...always enjoy your videos. My favorite is working on the "little clearing"...
Another advantage of the bagged firewood is you have the ties to use as a handle to carry it. The bags remind me of the ones that grapefruit and/or oranges come in. You said the bags are reusable but how many times? It would seem the rough edges of the wood would wear the bag out fast.
Mike as a camper for many years I can say this, if went to the camp store or a roadside stand and I had a choice of which bundle to buy it would be the bag. I have carried allot of wood to the campfire and the bag is much easier and I can carry two bags. The wrapped bundle nice for storage maybe but if you want to sell more than one at a time, go for the bag.
Your not crazy Mellisa, I used to love shrinky dinks as a kid, that was the thing to do! The rhino liner looks great! Looking forward to the cabin video! ✌🏼❤️🙏🏼
G'day Mike n Mel, firewood is a by product for us and we don't like to waste anything especially since all the native forests in our state will be closed to all logging by the end of the year, you won't be allowed to fall a tree unless it has been planted or blown down or by getting a permit then having to plant one hundred in it's place and fostering them for one year. I've been playing around with bagging for a couple of years it has to be sold here by weight and I agree with Ohio Joe the customer needs to be able to see the wood clearly 👍.
The personal preference you mention also includes the customer. Perhaps ask your outlet(s) what they perceive or run a parallel experiment as to which moves faster?
Maybe the Hunt Man could operate the Wolf Ridge bagger easier than the wrapper. Seems to be less moving parts. I wonder what the convenience stores would prefer.
I loved Shrinky Dinks but we could never do them during the summer because it meant my mom had to turn on the oven and it would make the house too hot. 😀
I Like the Bagger. As someone said You have the bad to store the extra wood in.. You can always repurpose the bag also. ❤You are 100% Correct Mike. Personal Preference..!!🙂Another Great Video..! Thank You for another..
I had my Rino Liner installed in October of 2014. I am an electrician and my pick up is my only vehicle. The liner is in perfect condition to this day. Over the first month it settled and there are some signs that, as it settled, it shrunk slightly. The shrinkage was expected and insignificant. I will not buy a pick up without Rino Liner in the future. In addition, it adds considerable structural support to the bed.
Also you can store the wood in the bag that’s a good selling point. 😃👍🙏 Can the strap of the bag fit over the handles on the canister? Have a great day.
Mike, love that Rhino Liner, they did a great job! I had it done to my old Dodge Ram when it was newer and I think thats whats holding the bed together now! LOL!
I get 13.8mpg towing a 30foot 8000lbs winnebago travel trailer with my duramax 6.6 that has 43,000 miles on it so far . But I get a little more mpg towing my 3000 pound cargo trailer which doesn’t make too much sense to me . I think it’s because I tow in the tow haul mode and that changes the rpm’s and shift points causing the mileage to be about the same with both trailers . Around town and highway I get 19.8 - 20 mpg average. It’s a 2500 HD with crew cab and 8 foot bed . Like the one person commented on , I didn’t buy it for its mileage I bought it for its capabilities.
Brad from Firewood at the furnace, takes a piece of nylon webbing and staples that to his wrapped bundles to provide a carrying handle. I thought that was a pretty good idea.
Nice comparison. It seems maybe the Wolf Ridge is set up in less than an ideal configuration. The bag when dropped should land on the platform, not on the ground. It makes no sense to have to pick it up and put it on the platform to tie it. Also, for production, you wouldn't have the wood behind you so that you have to turn around to pick it out of the side by side. Instead, the equipment would be placed so that you just reach to your right to grab the wood - pallet would be off to your left to minimize steps.
What neat machines. One small suggestion on the tying the bags off. You might want them a little easier to undo without cutting the string or tearing the bag. What I'd do is the first part of the knot like you did, but the second half of the knot do twice around the other string/twine before tightening. It's still will keep it closed but you can work it loose more easily.
I REMEMBER Shrinky-Dinks, Melissa. LoL. I also remember the shrunken heads where you used apples 🍎. Gen-X’ers are the last of the best generations. That’s my thoughts anyway. Great video, Mike. Strong work, as always.
I give you credit for selling wood instead of air. There are those that would take the time and effort to stack the bundled wood loose. What do the bags vs bundle average weigh ? I am looking forward to the Ford fuel economy to compare with GMC in a real world test. TFL and others rate them but not in western Pa hills and valleys. Hope Hunter likes the trip and visit to the cabin some day. Thanks and take care.
Hello! 😊 I find that I get really good gas mileage when I just stay home. Maybe the fuel guzzler will get better mileage when it gets a few thousand miles on it. But if you are using the cruise control much on hills, that will burn up a lot of unnecessary fuel too. Big trucks need to be like a roller coaster, go fast down the hills and gradually slow down when ascending. Cruise controls can't do that.
Overloaded fine, most likely higher than rental fee! Plus, there are higher possibilities of the towing equipment having a failure. Shrink wrap is common place in the electronic world! Both methods on the bundling of firewood are great. Both have an advantage over the other. So, with both methods being available to your customers. You'll have a mixture of individuals! Some will love one style over the other. Others will adore their ability to have freedom of choice!

Good evening from a wet and soggy Ontario, Canada. 3.5"'s of rain this afternoon.
It would be nice to display those bundles side by side and observe which customers chose more often.
GREAT idea - or whichever is cheaper !! Otherwise, you're digging into your profit !!
We have the bagger and a wrapper. honestly sell the same 50/50 in the wood stand. One customer told me bags keep the car cleaner
@tomlongbeard6071 nice user name
I did that exact thing, an A-B test if you will. My bags sold 3x more over the course of 2 months
We just did a sales study between ages and bundles at a new roadside stand! Results will be posted in our video Saturday morning. Pros and cons to each.

Over the first month it settled and there are some signs that, as it settled, it shrunk slightly. The shrinkage was expected and insignificant. I will not buy a pick up without Rino Liner in the future. In addition, it adds considerable structural support to the bed.
You can just add a label under the plastic to make it pretty 🎉 😊
I hope everything is going well with Hannah's pregnancy, all of you are in my prayers including the dog's
I remember shrinky dinks color them and bake them they were cool
Thanks for the side by side comparison, Mike. I don't sell firewood, but it was cool to see the different packaging systems.
LOL!
Finally been getting some rain here in Southern Indiana…greatly needed but need more. Cooler temps too by the way. May get my fire pit going.
Wish I could get to Boonville and meet you two, I only live a couple hours southeast!
They both work nice but I think I like the Wolfe Ridge Firewood bagger. Good video Mike. We’ll look forward to seeing you guys in WV. 👍❤️
Melissa, I remember Shrinky Dinks, my kids made Christmas ornaments with them. Mike was probably on the road working when you made them
Brad from Firewood at the furnace, takes a piece of nylon webbing and staples that to his wrapped bundles to provide a carrying handle. I thought that was a pretty good idea.
That's a good idea.
I like the bundled firewood look. You can better see what you're buying. Just my opinion of course.
Agreed on both points. That's exactly how we setup our operation with the wolfe ridge.
Got to say I like the wrapped better than the bagged. It would be interesting to see if both methods give the customer the same number of pieces.
Good point !
Wood bags could be used for garden storage like onion and potatoes and other root produce that need air circulation
It would be nice if the Wood Ridge would pivot so when you turn the bag up side down it would land on the platform.
Guten Morgen! Morgan.

Check the drain holes in the bed
Good point, they may have been plugged with liner material.
Good morning everyone 😊😊😊😊😊
Hello! 😊
I find that I get really good gas mileage when I just stay home.

@@JohnSmith-tv5ep Hi John, Thanks for the coffee!
I am on my second cup now.

Enjoy, and "have a day" !
Gear ratio on rear axle could make difference in gas mileage ?
You could print a nice label and place it under the last wrap.
