- My homemade bundle frame has served me very well for nearly 2 years. It is a great option when you are just starting out and waiting to make some money to reinvest into your hobby business. Well after much thought and work, I have decided that the time has come for me to upgrade my bundling gig. Today I will unpack, assemble, and test the new Amish Made Firewood Bundler and let you know my initial thoughts, and why I purchased this particular machine. I hope you find it informative, and enjoyable.

Nice video Brad. Two things I did (see my latest video) 1. Make a little container on the bundler to hold your labels and 2. Glue a magnet to a box cutter and keep it handy on the frame of the bundler.

Hi Brad! My granddaughter and I get to bundle her some more bundles this week. We woke up yesterday morning to find the rack empty and as we were reloading the stand a gentleman stopped and bought every thing she had bundled. He said he was so happy with the first bundle he purchased from her stand because the wood was dry when he started his fire. Her bundles were a full cubic yard and she puts a fire started in her bundles. She sells her bundles for $8.00 each or three for $20.00. I am so pleased Tony told me about this bundler at the firewood frenzy in June. Happy bundling from her woodyard in Illinois.

Brad, this is meant educationally only. The 1/2 in wrench size is actually 5/16 hardware and 9/16 is 3/8. 1/2 inch hardware would take 3/4 wrench

Have you ever thought of trying using bailing twine for the handles. But, the real main concern would be the stapling…. Are you using wide or narrow crown and what length of staples are you using. The longer they are the more grip they will have. The narrow crown will be a less likely to rip out the material. Good luck on finding new ways to improve your technique’s and process!
The 1" webbing has been working perfectly. I'm using narrow crown staples that are 1" long. Video #145 "All About the Bundles" details my process and also has links to the handles, staples, etc. in the description.
Like I told the guy before finding your channel. Instead of starting the rolling the bundle with your hand on the strecht, use a piece of wood to hold it down. The tension will hold the bundle together for a bit.
Toss your label in on the top 3-4 wrap. Don't have to bend over the old way. Just some ideas. Happy wrapping. 😊👍
Random thought....use twine. Take a piece of twine, loop it at 10" so you have a continously loop, take your staple gun and straddle the twine on each end, you would effectively have 2 strands of twine as a handle?

Have you ever thought about using burlap rope as a handle? I use it with my bundles. I buy a large roll at Lowes and use two staples on each end..
I might try that next. Any problems with staples holding?
Never had any problems with the staples. I use 1/4x5/8” staples with a staple gun like you was using in your video. Happy Splitting!!
Harbor Freight has 1/2”x 50’ burlap rope for $5.00 a roll..

I've been noticing that them Amish built bundlers are getting more common now...that tells me there a well built, decent priced piece of equipment!! I believe bundles are a thing of the present and future! I am seriously debating on purchasing a bundler and start to offer bundles besides bulk firewood !! stay safe my friend 🍻🍻

I'm going to get one of those bundle wrap manual machines!. Everyone close to us use the nylon handles they work great!, 10 minutes after starting your fire it's gone anyways!. Really nothing to worry about!.
I like that bundler. Looks like an option for me compared to the powered ones. I wouldn’t worry too much about the comments. People like the handle and your supplying that, up to them to do the right thing and dispose of it properly or not. Thanks for the video

Great video. Nice new bundler. Now you just need a magnetic tool to attach to it so you're not having to keep pulling your knife out of your pocket, opening it, cutting the wrap, closing it, and then back in the pocket. Just a thought.

Don't go by 12 pieces because size ain't 100 percent the same because a couple of those bundles looked light. I'd go by filling the frame full.
Hi Brad, another very enjoyable video. Handles: find a manufacturer who makes hemp fabric tape (do not use bamboo🤭) should burn just fine! Also, nail your ‘staples’ in from the ends and not on top. That way your staples will have more purchase! Cheers Len (Devon 🇬🇧)
Nailing from the ends would require almost twice the length of material. If this method were chosen; why not use good old bailer twine. 2 feet should do. Just lay it on top of your stack before the first wrap and it will get held in place...you already have your hand holding the plastic anyway , put the rope under.. When the bundle is all wrapped ,just bring the 2 ends of the twine on top and tied it off with a quick knot. I think baler twine is quite cheap

@@shannonp4037 I did not find it too agressive on the hands when I was manhandling haybales as a teenager in the 70s,,,sometimes between 500 and 700 daily. Maybe the newer twine nowadays is more friendly . Lots of people work with gloves now, but 50 years ago ...not so many.

I am confused, if I was buying
your wood I would cut the plastic wrap, load the wood, and removed the handle before burning. Am I missing something?

Brad, check out Tony Cool Tools video #32 where he talks about his Amish wrapper.
He wraps clockwise unlike you and only uses 4 wraps. Maybe clockwise will wrap tighter?
You may need to flip the wrap roll around so that it comes off the bottom when wrapping clockwise.

If you took the nylon under the plastic wrap and around without stapling it it’s as easy as tying a square knot

Me, I’d put that bundler on permanent skid, something easy to slid/move around/fork liftable. Maybe raise it up a little so I won’t be bending over, just me
Great vid Brad! I was wondering when the bundler would make an appearance. Nylon handles and even the plastic wrap has not been well received in my area. We have been testing bundles in our area over the summer. Our customers have preferred hemp twine wrapped around the bundles instead. I am making a bundler similar to your old one and we will see where things go from there. In my mind if this takes off I’m thinking of a bundler like a large fishing reel to wrap the twine. Can’t wait to see the livestream from the Paul Bunyan show!
P.S.- I was a little disappointed you didn’t use the new word “transportability”😆lol

Use roofing nails or staples to hold the cotton strap on.
They were staples I used. The cotton is just too weak and tears

For your customers with concerns over the fumes, why are they burning the plastic wrap? Just ball it up and throw it in their camping garbage bag! Be safe.

Just goes to show, if you listen to the "safety Sally's", everything will grind to a screeching halt. I don't know how some of those people find their way back home sometimes.
Maybe you could use a 1/4 in rope and tack it on your bundle. I know there is rope that will burn safely. I have see the rope here in Washington state. Enjoy your channel.

If someone is concerned about the handle, they can take it off before burning the wood it's attached to or cut most of it off. They don't burn the wood with they stretch wrap around it. Hopefully common sense prevails on what people do.

No I don’t think so. I made 20 bundles shortly after and had no issues with stability
The Amish sure have made a ton of these bundlers and have really profited from UA-cam exposure...
After watching the video...My only concern is the placement of bundle shed. I believe it was placed there because it was in the security camera view but it landed smack dab in the middle of your log dump and production area. IMO a better/safer spot needs to be thought about for easier customer pick up access. 🤠

Baling twine is usually 9000 ft per ball, 2 balls per pack. Not sure what it sells for now since everything is round baked and net wrapped.
Far as handle goes get that juit or hemp light rope/heavy string or heavy natural bailing twine

What size staple are you using on your handles? Have you had any luck with any other staples or nails? Thsnks
These are the only staples that I’ve used and have not had any problems. They are 1/4” crown, and 1” long. Hope that helps you out. Let me know and thanks for watching!

I do 10 wraps how many do you do?
I do 5 wraps with 90 gauge and have never had a problem
what size is the bundles cubic foot/LxWxH?
They are 12x12x16" so it ends up being about 1.3 cubic feet if you fill it to the 12" height

Five wraps of 70 guage (0.70 mil) is just a hair thinner than 4 wraps of 90 guage (0.90 mil). No need to increase your costs of a bundle than using more plastic wrap than necessary.
The customer could take a knife and cut away the handle.
So does anyone make bundle wood outnof oak?
Yes some people mix it in or I have made them by request for some guys who smoke meats. The vast majority of bundle sales are used for outdoor camp fires and although oak has great BTU value it not as bright and high of a flame as other species.

Just rip the nylon off before you burn.
I'm pretty sure people around a fire are cooking something that comes sealed in plastic and aren't burning all of the trash they come across while burning. They can easily toss it in the trash with everything else. People are so sensitive.
