Notice how the different songs sung by the Ainur represented the 4 ages of middle-earth, and how the ways Melkor interrupted the songs dictated in which ways the ages enemies would operate.
Ah, but there is far more time in middle earth than the four ages. First was the creation of unknow time, and the war fought just after it. Then there was the first paradise of the Valar, with the two great lamps, their destruction and the marring of that world and the breaking of the land, another period of unknown time. Then came the age of Valinor and the two trees, when the Valar waited for the arrival of the Elves, which took a great time. The Elves eventually arrived, Melkor was imprisoned, and some of the elves came to Valinor. Melkor remained imprisoned for three more ages. Then Melkor was set free and the next age began around this time, and that age was called the First Age, then came the Second, the Third, and the Fourth. It is not know if there are more ages, for yet the end of the world is far away at the end of Tolkens work. I believe that all the songs overlapped to some extent, the first song certainly is the creation of Arda, and the struggles there in, but it has the creation of the Elves within. The last song, more a cord, may be the arrival of Man, who is given the gift of Man and is not bound to Arda. Therefore the songs patch together creation, one an attempt to fix another, with a final twist for the outcome to be as Iluvitar desired. Sadly we may never truly know because only Tolkien can answer all the questions we have with any certainty, and even he molded and changed the underlying foundations of his world several times, and probably had more wonderful thoughts in his mind that remained unwritten.
As others said, it is much more likely that these themes are not the ages as there is more than one age. But if you note the first theme seems to be the creation of the world, but there are only three times after this we know Illuvitar directly added to the story of the world: the awakening of the elves, the awakening of Men, and the reshaping of Earth. It seems to me that it is most likely each of the new themes introduced are the children of Illuvitar entering the stage, with the second theme being the elves and the third theme being men. All four themes would coalesce in the ages to make the story we know.

My friend doubted the ingenuity of this lore’s depth. Just from your videos, I was able to explain Tolkien’s epicness to my friend. I did it why recording so I was wondering if like to listen to it. Your hard work has it own legacy. Anyways, respond if you want me to send you the audio file. If not, just keep doing what you are doing. You are bringing in a new generation. You have sold Books for Tolkien and that’s beautiful.
Honestly, your video is very good, clear and precise. Regardless how simple your animation is but your story is well explained, and made whoever watches this will understand the Middle-Earth lore even better. I really hope that your map of middle-Earth is canon and true to the lore, because I've been searching high and low for the complete map for Middle-Earth and sadly I didn't find any except for the small portion around Gondor and Mordor. I really want to know how The Undying Lands looks like but on second thought maybe it's on another planet as it's different realm. Anyway love your work and keep it up. Speaking of map, while searching for the map for Middle-Earth it made me realized why there's so much empty lands with no inhabitants as if nobody bothers to build a civilization on the free empty land (especially on the far east side of the land and far south too). Like can't any kingdom expand their colony or is it it's simply too hazardous to do so? If you think about it, it's already in the forth age meaning thousands of years already passed by, don't tell me the population is still the same hahahaha. Why though?
There are kingdoms in the south and east, they just don't feature much in Tolkien's works (being under the domination of Morgoth and Sauron after him).
I’m currently listening to the audio book for the Silmarillion, and this will be helpful to come back to once I finish! Thanks so much for making these videos, they’re awesome and make me a lot less confused lmao Edit: I just finished the Silmarillion and I plan to watch all your videos to recap what I just read! Even though the story and lore was marvelous, it was a lot to take in, and watching your summery videos will help me make sense of it all. Thanks again! :D

You know that J.R.R. Tolkien was a Roman Catholic. He once stated that his Legendarium (specifically The Lord of the Rings trilogy) is a religious and Catholic work. So, what Tolkien basically did here, is take the Christian story and made it his own, or he added Christian elements into his work. He once argued that since Jehovah (the God the Bible) is a creator, and he created man in his own image, and man can also create things, that make man sub-creators. As an atheist, I find this mind-blowing. Any questions?
05:40 In Serbian language, VARDA is an old archaic word for a "keeper" or a "guardian". During the ancient period, there was a tribe called Vardi (or Ardi in Ancient Greek), that ruled the areas of what today is Eastern Herzegovina, Montenegro and Northern Albania. Today there are Varda mountain, located on the border between Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, a little town called Vardiste, and a village called Varda (in the Kosjeric county). Some local families's last names is also Varda.

It is and isn’t the point. While Tolkien was a catholic and there’s a ton of Christina mythos mixed in (the father, son and Holy Spirit aka Frodo, Aragorn and Gandalf all being representations of Jesus) it’s debated on how much Tolkien intended. Records and letters stated he didn’t want this to be allegory. I think his subconscious mixed these in

Point of correction: it was Yavanna, goddess of life, not Varda, that gave birth to the Two Trees. Varda would take the pooled light of Telperion to create the stars, thus the Elves ever-love of Telperion and anything silver.
Actually some Russian author had wrote this. And Siliamrillion is written from supposedly objective point of view of what happened, Tolkien wasn't the winner of battles, he's an author. He judges which Side was good and which bad, but there isn't a possibility of "Tolkien lied, in reality Melkor killed nobody and... And it was Manwe who created Angband!" because Tolkien created this reality and just describes it in Siliamrillion.
The simillarrion goes deeper into the tale of Tolkien’s hobbit and lord of the rings. I’d love to see a film or television program about this as technology in film moves further
Unfortunately i'm not sure if we'll ever get that. Tolkien's estate are famously protective and they've stated on more than one occasion anything First age or before is strictly off limits. That's why rings of power were so vague in their prologue of events leading up they are walking a fine line of what they can do, i'm surprised they could even mention morgoth tbh
BaSsGaZ I agree! If it was done right, this would be some seriously epic stuff! However, there’s so much material it would be impossible to adapt it right, so “fans” would just complain about anything/everything any company did lol

Strange things happen with Feanor host: - why Falamari refused to sail their brothers to Middle Earth? (and protect those ships to the very death?) - why Feanor burn the ships, instead of increasing his battlestrenght by brother forces?
Based on the Silmarillion: - The Noldor were going against the advice of the Valar in going to Middle Earth; the Teleri didn't want to act against the wishes of the Valar. They also didn't want to sail back to Middle Earth themselves (there had already been indications that those who went would be unable to return) and didn't want to give the ships away (as they were their greatest creations, and they valued them nearly as highly as Feanor valued the Silmarils). They also hoped that making it impractical to get to Middle Earth would get Feanor to reconsider his foolish plan. Instead, Feanor tried to take the ships by force, and things escalated from there. (Also, for the record, the Teleri weren't brothers of the Noldor, except in the broadest sense - they'd been following different ambassadors to Valinor. Admittedly there had been a decent amount of intermarriage in the ages since, but still.) - Fingolfin hadn't been at all convinced of the wisdom of Feanor's plan, and basically only came along because a lot of his followers and family had been convinced by Feanor and he didn't want to abandon them. By the time of the incident with the ships, things hadn't been going too well (what with the Kinslaying and the Curse of Mandos) and a lot of Fingolfin's followers were beginning to think he'd been right all along and were listening to him more than Feanor. Feanor, who by this point had become rather unhinged, decided that he didn't want or need their assistance if they weren't going to obey him unquestioningly, and that he'd rather abandon them on the borders of Valinor.

I can tell Sauron reminds me of Satan and Gandalf as Michael the archangel.
@@ThespeedrapThis Manoe is the archangel of Tolkien's world
When the races first awoke;
Dwarf: " _Aach, back so stiff. Nice to stretch a bit._ "
Valar: " _Guaah?! You're so ugly! GO BACK TO SLEEP!_ "
Elves: " _We are the first race to awaken..!_ "
Valar: " _Yeaah, Fiiiirst that's right!_ "
Later;
Ungoliant: " _I'm hungry! Gimmie those Silmarils!_ "
Melkor: " _You had your fill! You can't have these!_ "
Ungoliant: " _Fine. Ii'll just eat YOU TOO then!_ "
Melkor " _Help, HEEEELP! I'm being consumed by a giant spider!_ "

Valar: _"Hey, you could've been kidnapped by Melkor. Also, you missed a whole bunch of shit that went down, so I kinda think you'll be fine."_

If you love Tolkien. Read the Lay of Leithian. It is a beautiful poem he wrote about Beren and Lúthien.
I like how Melkor floats around, looking for stuff. Hahaha
Man I never been exposed to so much content so fast and still understand what I'm being exposed to, amazing channel!
CivEx probably lives in the timeless halls
This is the best channel ever, anywhere. I can't tell you how much this all is appreciated.
I love how unique the idea of ”the Ainulindale” is/was. Great job on the video as always
Nice job Civ. Looking forward to the rest of the remasters :)
Gandalfs battle with the balrog just got so much more epic
Truly beautiful, you do the Professor proud.
All of these videos are awesome! Have you thought of doing a segment on famous weapons/armor/magic items?
CivilizationEx is my bedtime story reader.
Love the music choice in this one.
Why though?
Check out Kathryn Wynn Fonstad's Atlas of Middle-earth. She has some of the best maps.
There are kingdoms in the south and east, they just don't feature much in Tolkien's works (being under the domination of Morgoth and Sauron after him).
I like the simplicity of this video and that the names are given to help with recall of who is who and what they are. Thank you.
I am here after my 9 year old son's first viewing of the LOTR trilogy. This is done so well he would think it was real life history.
I’m currently listening to the audio book for the Silmarillion, and this will be helpful to come back to once I finish! Thanks so much for making these videos, they’re awesome and make me a lot less confused lmao
Edit: I just finished the Silmarillion and I plan to watch all your videos to recap what I just read! Even though the story and lore was marvelous, it was a lot to take in, and watching your summery videos will help me make sense of it all. Thanks again! :D
I bought the cassette tapes audio book of it or comes in 5 parts I got 3 and the remaining 2 have been lost in the mail for 4 years
The kinslaying happened at Alqualonde, not Tol Eressea
i did read the silmarillion two times, but i still learned new stuff from you. god bless you, man! live long and prosper!
Man this is probably the best LotR lore videos I have seen yet! I have learned so much. Thank you!
Eru dropped the mike. Wonderful videos. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you. This channel is new to me, and I appreciate your clarity and pictographs.
I could never really understand all of this but now I know thanks to this video 😊
Melkor just wanted to sing, but noooo!
It all has to be like the all powerful guy says!
Melkor's singing was part of Eru's plan. So really he did what he was supposed to
Finally, an illustration that I can understand easily. Thank you.

I swear, Civilization Ex is so great
Way to go man, you made this all super simple, and easy to follow. Really enjoyed your video, great work!
This is such a great video! One of my favorites. I've watched it probably fives times already.
Some local families's last names is also Varda.
there is so much in common between melkor and Satan.
just like Lucifer,Melkor was rebellious toward Eru(God).
and another similarity,Melkor nor Satan can truly Create life, they can only corrupt what already is.
I believe that's the point.
That's the point. Tolkien was a catholic, if I'm not mistaken.
Thanks for pointing out the obvious:)
well yeah according to his letters LOTR is his catholic works, and mixed with anglo-saxon mythology
I think his subconscious mixed these in
Ainur: "Oh there goes Melkor, doing some crazy things again."
This guy sounds just like Tuvak from Star Trek.
This is incredibly well done. Fantastic video!!
UA-cam, you need to make a system for liking more than just like videos. Some channels are worth special recognition and civilizationEX Is definitely one of them so I guess I gotta still make comments until you give this to me more often on the algorithm
compare to nerd of the rings channel,, your channel is more straight to the point,,, and perfect for a new fans like me.. that want to know the history of tolkien universe but with simple explaination
13:16 A primordial evil in the form of a spider...looks like Pennywise is also a part of the Lord of the Rings lore
Love this. One of my favourite channels.
I would say this content is good for a die hard fan
but not for everyone else, especially younger children
Still ,without doubt ,the greatest of Creation stories. The Silmarillien blew my pre-teen mind 40 years ago, and nothing has come close in sheer magic and mystery. While I enjoyed all LOTR films, they pale in comparison to what I visualized in my mind.If I had formed a Metal band,my band would have been called "THE PITS OF UTUMNO".Has there been a band with that name?
I wish Gandalf as a maiar gave some insight into the timeless halls and what he remembered from before arda. It’s just too interesting
He only had a very faint memory of anything before
This is the best video to understand the whole Tolkien universe. Upvoted and subbed, good work.
Fantastic overview. Your vids really are first among many!
Point of correction: it was Yavanna, goddess of life, not Varda, that gave birth to the Two Trees. Varda would take the pooled light of Telperion to create the stars, thus the Elves ever-love of Telperion and anything silver.
History is written by the winners. I would love to read a history of the ages the point of view of Melkor or Sauron.
@@a.w.4708 actually the silmarion is written from the elves perspectives

Soooo well done! very good visual guidence to help remember who, where and what

Melkor: Hey, you guys wanna hear my mixtape?
The simillarrion goes deeper into the tale of Tolkien’s hobbit and lord of the rings. I’d love to see a film or television program about this as technology in film moves further
Unfortunately i'm not sure if we'll ever get that. Tolkien's estate are famously protective and they've stated on more than one occasion anything First age or before is strictly off limits. That's why rings of power were so vague in their prologue of events leading up they are walking a fine line of what they can do, i'm surprised they could even mention morgoth tbh
That was so interesting. Cant wait to sit down and listen to more !!
I request you start a series on the world of the Heralds of Valdemar. Fantastic series that does not get the attention and love it deserves.
LOTR!!!
Endor but no Ewoks :)

Lol I thought the same thing
The trolls were Morgoth's answer to the Ents? I've been into Tokeinian lore for a long time, and I did not know that.
This channel is just too good to not have at least 1 mil subs
Dude I love your channel I always come back to it
I have recently started to read the books these videos are helping me understand certain aspects thx
"aggressive, loud and endlessly repetitive"
so, basically Melkor invented Heavy Metal
They need to make movies about the first age
Why isn't this a franchise yet. MAKE IT HAPPEN.
BaSsGaZ I agree! If it was done right, this would be some seriously epic stuff! However, there’s so much material it would be impossible to adapt it right, so “fans” would just complain about anything/everything any company did lol
amazon is doing it , just google LORD OF THE RINGS ON PRIME
@@quantumgravity92 they're only doing the second age, the Tolkien estate will not sell the rights to the first age. Plus there are fears they're gonna go woke with what they are doing.
Never thought I'd hear Allan from Smiling Friends talk about LOTR lore
This is one of the best videos i have ever seen the music 🎶 and the tale awsome !
CivEx!!!
so I visualize Tolkien's creation like a guitar shred off
symphonic/neoclassical metal & death/doom metal
@Gregor Eisenhorn
Same dude. As a metalhead, I hate it when people say that Melkor's discord against the Music of the Ainur was equivalent to that of metal against classical music. I prefer to think of it as black metal against symphonic/power metal.
I'm getting Nightwish vibes.
@@metalwarrior81 Perhaps Melkor was Mumble Rap? I can't think of much that's more adverse to classical.

15:23 DORIATH FOREVER
Tolkien *really* loved the letter A.
Strange things happen with Feanor host:
- why Falamari refused to sail their brothers to Middle Earth? (and protect those ships to the very death?)
- why Feanor burn the ships, instead of increasing his battlestrenght by brother forces?
Based on the Silmarillion:
- The Noldor were going against the advice of the Valar in going to Middle Earth; the Teleri didn't want to act against the wishes of the Valar. Admittedly there had been a decent amount of intermarriage in the ages since, but still.)
- Fingolfin hadn't been at all convinced of the wisdom of Feanor's plan, and basically only came along because a lot of his followers and family had been convinced by Feanor and he didn't want to abandon them.
