They needed the Silmarillion to make the show really good. Trying to work around only the stories they have rights to and compressing the timeline is leaving the show feeling a little shallow compared to all of the material that is there.
All you need to know about the Second Age is the men of Numenor went up against Sauron and whipped his Maiar butt--and he had the freaky-deaky, poopy-doopy ring with him when they did it.
LOTR fans when The Hobbit is 3 movies: "HOW DARE YOU?!" LOTR fans when 2 pages from the Appendix are adapted into an entire series: "Awesome!" Yeah, I know it's over a longer period of time but I really find it hilarious how people are now totally open to expanding the story. Amazon can only adapt from the broad details on 2 pages. They can't use any other books.
Where did you hear that they’re only taking 2 pages from the appendices? All I was able to find was they can’t take anything from the Simarillion based on The agreement Amazon made with the Tolkien estate/properties, etc.
Just a question... Did Sauron wear the one ring when he was took prisoner by Al Farazon? If the ring was left behind, shouldn't he be weaken significantly, like what Isildor did to him? If not, why the Numenorians were not tempted to take the ring?
He wore the ring the whole time, even after he died. The Ring was invisible so no one could see it and also the ring wanted to be with Sauron, so it wasn't really calling out for people to claim it.
I wonder what parts of this will be depicted in the new Amazon series. I imagine that it will start with Annatar coming to Eregion and the forging of the Rings, while the 'human plot' will start with the Numenoreans warring with middle-men near Mordor, who have fallen under Sauron's sway. Season 1 could end with the first defeat of Sauron. While Season 2 might deal with Numenorian imperialism following that war, I wonder if it will instead skip to Sauron's second rise and his 'capture' by Numenor, and go on from there until its destruction. Season 3 could then deal with Gondor and Arnor and the War of the Last Alliance.

@@caiodecastro7956 the writers changed a lot of Galadriels story and her character, they changed a lot of the happenings of the first age, they have characters in the wrong places/times, Elrond's character is messed up, and a lot of other blanket issues like them forgetting that elves have incredible eyesight. If you're a casual viewer who doesn't know or care about Tolkien's lore, then watch the show. No clue why Amazon decided to make the Rings of Power (which isn't actually THAT bad, just unnecessary) when they could make an entire LotR-length movie trilogy, or even a Game of Thrones-esque tv series, about Numenor and the Last Alliance
I have a small point of contention with your discussion of Galadriel and Eregion! Just my personal interpretation of Christopher's analysis in Unfinished Tales. The document that claims Galadriel and Celeborn ruled Eregion is a problematic one, especially with regard to Galadriel and Celeborn. The document also says that Amroth is their son (which was changed to Amdir later on), that Galadriel ruled Eregion (The Silmarillion and LOTR give no mention of this; in fact LOTR mentions Celebrimbor as the "Lord of Eregion"), and it has other details that aren't corroborated anywhere else, such as her living in Belfalas until Amroth died, or that she ruled as a Noldor Lord in Eriador around Lake Evendim. Ultimately, this was a stepping stone in Tolkien's formation of Galadriel's character, and I personally take it with a grain of salt. On the other hand, the document is one of the ONLY detailed histories regarding the early Second Age, so it is pretty painful to throw it out as a resource. I personally take more stock in its account of the War of the Elves and Sauron than with its account of Galadriel, considering how much he changed her story later on.
@@caiodecastro7956 Timeline. If you have read the books, Galadriel should already have Nenya by the time Miriel and Pharazon was born. Celembrimbor should also have been dead by then as well.
He knew the Valar would make him pay a price, like being imprisoned for a few thousand years, and after being the second most powerful being in Middle Earth for long, he just couldn't accept such an embarrassing fall and ran away. Over time, this feeling of shame turned into pride and anger, and he became the Dark Lord we know.

The new LOTR TV series is going to be taking place in the second age, awesome! :)
Unfortunately the series rapes everything that Tolkien created.
@@BillyTheBigKid82 Yeah, trust me I know....I'm disappointed with the show so far.
@@Dimitri1221XxX I would be surprised if you weren't disappointed. There's nothing Tolkien in the series.
The numenorians lived so long most of them abdicated their throne before their death🤦🏽♂️🤣
Watch this over Rings of Power.
i never knew this much until now.......
where did this information come from, that the dawi joined the orcs in the last battle of the second era?
They needed the Silmarillion to make the show really good. Trying to work around only the stories they have rights to and compressing the timeline is leaving the show feeling a little shallow compared to all of the material that is there.
They'd have screwed it up as they did the Rings of Power
I had to come back and watch this after that trash that Amazon just released
The makers of The Rings of Power should have watched this first. They really really should have.
All you need to know about the Second Age is the men of Numenor went up against Sauron and whipped his Maiar butt--and he had the freaky-deaky, poopy-doopy ring with him when they did it.
LOTR fans when The Hobbit is 3 movies: "HOW DARE YOU?!"
LOTR fans when 2 pages from the Appendix are adapted into an entire series: "Awesome!"
Yeah, I know it's over a longer period of time but I really find it hilarious how people are now totally open to expanding the story.
As long as they fill it with black people and gays, i think we all will be happy,
@@flouserschird and they took this as unironic advise
No true Tolkien fan thinks that the rings of power is awesome.
@@BillyTheBigKid82 its not good not terrible either
Among Sauron's prized possesions must be a video of Galaxy Quest, "Never give up. never surrender!"
@@CivilizationEx Wow that was a quick and useful reply. Thanks~
More likely they will ignore it all and focus on romance and characters that don't exist. It will be bad

The writing and acting are both pretty bad for the most part, but it's still a fantasy story and most of the visual effects are fantastic. If you care about the lore, don't watch the show

No clue why Amazon decided to make the Rings of Power (which isn't actually THAT bad, just unnecessary) when they could make an entire LotR-length movie trilogy, or even a Game of Thrones-esque tv series, about Numenor and the Last Alliance
Which book covers the second age?
The Silmarillion
Gasp!! I'm early!!!😃
All of this lore...and Amazon completely screwed the pooch...
most of this is from the sillmarillion, Which they don't have the rights to

Timeline. If you have read the books, Galadriel should already have Nenya by the time Miriel and Pharazon was born. Celembrimbor should also have been dead by then as well.
So....why didn't Sauron want to face judgement in Valinor? If he was seeking reconciliation, why did he stop halfway?
He knew the Valar would make him pay a price, like being imprisoned for a few thousand years, and after being the second most powerful being in Middle Earth for long, he just couldn't accept such an embarrassing fall and ran away. Over time, this feeling of shame turned into pride and anger, and he became the Dark Lord we know.
Yass!!!
