1:20 Ironically Nurn, one of the most fertile places on Middle-earth was located within the dark realm Mordor, one of the worst places in the world. I also like that Tolkien even bothered to show were the armies of darkness, Souron's minions, get much of their food and supplies for the various campaigns waged against the "Free-peoples." While Souron was an immortal spirit with little to no need to eat or drink, and by extension some of his servants, mainly the "undead" Nazgul along with other evil spirits, the rest of his armies and servants, orcs, men and trolls were mortal, thus required logistics and support systems to feed and sustain them. Actually I think I remember something mentioned by Tolkien's writings about their being some *"Orc farmers"* (probably slaves, "snaga") that also would work the fields and plantations of Nurn. Probably used to supplement the human slave labor, if theirs one thing more disposal to the dark lord than human slaves, it's orc slaves.
The great thing about being Swedish is that the pronunciation of most of the words comes natural for us. ^^ I don't know where CivilizationEx is from though.
I love his videos. But I reacted to the way he pronounced Mordor. He says it like More-door which is kinda ”american”. I thought it was pronounced like it’s read. Mor-dor.
Oh, that's natural, since Tolkien was Swedish. Sorry, that's all a crock. Even to the extent that he used Norse mythology and language, which he did somewhat, there's no reason to think a Swedish take is "more correct" than a Danish, Norwegian, or Icelandic pronunciation. It appears that the language of Mordor is based more on Arabic, though. Maybe in a few years that will "come naturally" to Swedes, but that day has not yet come.
Thank you man! You're awesome! Nice pronunciation! Now my opinion! If Mount Doom have continuously active without the presence of Sauron, there could be already tons of gemstones and precious stones beneath the Plateau of Gorgoroth. How incredibly intriguing! Thank you so much! The importance of Frodo and Sam suddenly becomes so poignant when you realize they finalized a war that lasted thousands of years. I had never heard of the Numenoreans. Were these men? If Isildur was a Numenorean, that means so was Aragorn. Right?
Glad you like the video! :) Yes, Numenorians were men descended from those who fought Morgoth in the First Age. They moved to the island of Numenor and became the most advanced humans in the world. At the end of the 2nd age Numenor was destroyed, so the survivors sailed to Middle Earth and founded Gondor and Arnor. Isildur and Aragorn were descendants of Numenorian Kings, which is why they live so long.
Just imagine if you seen Shelob heading to her lair at cirith ungol, like if you just looked outside your house and seen her on her way there, how scary would that be
Yes, sometimes I just want to know more. But it adds to the mythic feeling since real life Europeans did have myths of undiscovered continents like Antarctica.
Jeffrey Gao, he did a video that touched on this, basically, the one that is to the southeast is in eternal darkness (it is called the dark lands) and is likely inhabited with weird creatures similar to earth, and the long narrow one is called the land of the sun and is just a giant mountain range with nothing of note on it. I think that is it, but not sure
I have never read The Lord Of The Rings but I am watching this because, on the Sick and Wrong Podcast, Episode 613, the Californian areas affected by the wildfires were compared to Mordor and I had no idea what Mordor is. 😃 By the way, I like the way you pronounce the names of the several places and people. It feels very authentic. 👍
That Question is something that i have thought my self, surely the orcs are binded to the will of morgoth who is in eternal prison after he was imprisoned, Sauron took over...... but the Orcs are still binded to Morgoth right?
Rhûn, Harad, Khand and i believe Umber all became princeipalities of The Reunited Kingdom, the slaves of Nûrn were given freedom and started there own semi-Kingdom, Isengard what left to nature, Khazad Dum was reoccuiped by the Dwarves, the Goblins in the Misty Mountains were killed off or fled deeper into the mountains, Dol Guldur was conquered by the Elves of Lothlorien and Mirkwood, Angmar, Gundabad and the Forodwaith are completely deserted and So the Orcs in Mordor are all dead because of the destruction by the Men. Most of this if not all are just pure speculation, fan-fiction, so don’t take my word for it. Look into the history of Middle Earth after the Third Age and you should hopefully get your answer.
As far as I know the men in the East and South did not all surrender at once - as some made a brave last stand at the Black Gate after Sauron's fall, fighting their old enemies to the bitter end, some of the kingdoms did continue their resistance against Gondor even years after the War of the Ring. In the end they had to surrender. All that is lore, and beyond that nothing clear is said, but I guess secretly some form of shadow remains among their ranks as secret cults or something like that (at least I think that would be very likely) I think also (although this, too, is not said) it would be only logical that SOME Orcs and Trolls survived in the Misty and Grey Mountains - there were simply not anough forces to find and slaughter them all as it would be the likeing of their enemies. But surely they were reduced to small bands who hide deep into the wilderness together with their warg-comrades, a distant memory of the old wars and a danger only for few people. You may ask if you could not interpret the words in the hobbit that the orcs discovered modern warmachines who plagued the world could not be seen as proof that the orcs did survive and even had their role to play in future times, but of course the hobbit did claim some things which were not confirmed on other places.
@@marcbartuschka6372 Did Tolkien write anything about 4th age? I read from somewhere that after dead of Aragorn. Some race of man supermacist took control of Gondor and Gondor became Morgoth worshipping shithole.
Man your pronunciation is AMAZING!! Where are you from if i may ask? This is better than any AMSR i have ever listened to! Once again, amazing! 'Ie-siel-duhr' damn i cant even try to spell how you say it!
Awesome.... can you cover the other 2 groups that followed Sauron along side the Easterlings? I actually find myself most curious about that Eastern group as a whole...... soooo many questions about their lore
There were the Easterlings, Harad, and Enedwaith. The Enedwaith are the ones who Saruman convinces to attack and pillage Rohan, and the Harad are the guys with the oliphants.
Rogerio Lopes Nope, enedwaith was mostly consistent of clans that were neutral to the fighting, whereas the dunlendins were mostly men of rohan who shunned their past and raided their homeland, enedwaith was also located further to the west of Rohan on a lonely cape, whereas the dunlendin were based near the river isen
Adil Zia they were the men of harad and khand, also there were the men of umber who were basically pirates, watch Arachir galudirithon for loads of lore
wow, this is really fucking interesting. i had no idea about that numenorian-valinor invasion and eru illuvitar collapsing mountains and splitting the world (wtf). that's honestly insane. i love Tolkien.
Just curious, in your videos do you record the audio first and then arrange the video graphics to fit the audio, or do you make the graphics first and then fit the audio to them?
I'll never understand the thinking of Eru Iluvatar in sinking Numenor after Sauron convinced them to try to sail West. Like, you KNOW how manipulative Sauron can be, why are you punishing an entire civilization because a piece of it was manipulated by the prime manipulator?
Zansi Moreover he allowed Sauron to what he wanted and only intervened after things went to $#!%. Hasn't he ever heard that a stich in time saves nine. Just kill Sauron and be done with it.
You knowthis is supposed to be the JudeoChristian god, right ? The one that works in mysterious ways too ineffable for mortal minds to contemplate ? Next to the Old Testament this is pretty in-character.
Declan Roberts Morgoth: Eh...never crossed my mind. **shrugs** Gandalf: Well who needs these, these... *"guns"* when you have righteous! We wizards would give and teach more mortals how to use "magic" (to your lot that is) but...naw, you guys seem to be able to handle things well enough on your own. **gives thumbs up**
Melkor's aka Morgoth's "Iron Mountain" fortress was described as having vaguely described impenetrable defenses that sounded remarkably like flamethrowers and automatic weapons. Your supposition of a gun-wielder/gun-inventor being the "greatest servant of Melkor and the greatest enemy of Arda ever" has some real merit to it! :D
Fun fact old Turkish inspired Black Speech. Sauron also inspired by Ottoman Sultans ( giving gifts to Europan kings with the meaning of new conquest). Also Ottoman Sultans was shadow of god in their belief ( Sauron is also shadow of Mordor ). Turk invasion of the Europe is the main inspiration of the evil idea. If you look at the map Mordor looks like Anatolia. Tolkien was a Catholic after all, of course he will see Muslims as antagonists. Not to mention he fighted against Turkey in WW1. Fun fact 2: Capital of Turkey is Angara in Toliken’s time. Did it resembles sonething? (Yes it is Angmar’s name father according to some)
The relationship between Shilob and Sauron is pretty funny. It would be pretty good to read about their encounters and conversations they’d have. I hate spiders but for some reason they intrigue me the most out of all of the creatures in the Tolkien Mythos
So I like how Eru got moved into action because one human king tried to ineffectually invade Aman, but when Morgoth was trying to destroy the world Eru expected everyone else to deal with him. Asshole. Eru collapses mountains, sinks an island, and bends the world to prevent any filthy human from reaching his precious undying lands, but when his creations Morgoth and Sauron rampage all over, Eru doesnt care.
I wish the creators of Shadow of Mordor/War saw this, or just read up, on the lore they broke. If you would witness the final fall of Minas Anor in the games, you would be a thousand years before the movies. Yet, in the games it happens just years before. Also, Isildur and Helm Hammerhand as Nazgul would not be possible when they could not have recieved the rings of power given to men.
If Gondorians occupied Minas Ithil and the tower of Cirith Ungol for 1500 years during the third age, why did they leave Shelob alive? Or did she leave Mordor after Saurons defeat?

Good video man, always Good quality and great information and lore. Keep up the good work and thanks again!
God I love Tolkien
What they teach you in class: LOTR trilogy
What they give as homework: LOTR+the Hobbit
What comes in the test: f*cking silmarillion
Just imagine if you seen Shelob heading to her lair at cirith ungol, like if you just looked outside your house and seen her on her way there, how scary would that be
Who did Shelob mate with too have kids?
There were regular big spiders throughout Middle Earth that some of the Great Spiders like Shelob mated with.
CivilizationEx Ewww Spider sex.
Spider incest, as they almost all spawned from the Ungoliant, which is even worse
What a lovely thought.
Jackson Phillips Spincest, the game the whole family can enj... be deeply disturbed by.
Holy hell what a video. Outstanding.
Your pronounciation of Sindarin is excellent.
Thank you for that awesome video... hope some day to get a Malazan or Wheel of time video :3
So what was going on in the other two continents?
Jeffrey Gao As in Valianor or what?
6:35 Those two east of Middle Earth.
Jeffrey Gao Tolkien doesn't say anything about it, he barely tells anything about Harad, Rhun, Khand, and beyond.
Your Elvish accent is on point! Very impressive. Great video.
Shelob ate orc soldiers, Sauron did not care because he had plenty to spare
Soviet anthem plays in the background
sad but true..
I have never read The Lord Of The Rings but I am watching this because, on the Sick and Wrong Podcast, Episode 613, the Californian areas affected by the wildfires were compared to Mordor and I had no idea what Mordor is. 😃
By the way, I like the way you pronounce the names of the several places and people. It feels very authentic. 👍
Where did the rest of Sauron’s forces flee after the war of the ring?
All that is lore, and beyond that nothing clear is said, but I guess secretly some form of shadow remains among their ranks as secret cults or something like that (at least I think that would be very likely)
I think also (although this, too, is not said) it would be only logical that SOME Orcs and Trolls survived in the Misty and Grey Mountains - there were simply not anough forces to find and slaughter them all as it would be the likeing of their enemies.
Keep it up man! I'll always be watching to give that view and like :)
You should do The Elder Scrolls
The Elder Scrolls is basically jist watered down LOTR lore.
@@waltermalone216 LOTR is basically just watered down Christianity lore.
@@jorzor-spaghetti3167 Nigga no it is not.
If he can explain CHIM and Amaranth I'll eat a shoe of your choice, on camera.
@@waltermalone216 Not really but okay then
Simple and fantastic, I love this Video🤗💕
Great video as always!
Excellent crash-course for the LotR and lead up, impressive :)
love your pronuciation :)
I seen that uve upgraded the map of arda great job make more videos please
Thanks! :)
The haradrim literally ly were souron’s human fan bases
Shelob was Sauron's pet "cat"...let that sink in.
...And then realize how funny that sounds. *XD*
NaViLlUs cIrE that would be one wired cat
it s very fitting tho
Very well made bro
This was REALLY good!
ive been waiting for another
Man your pronunciation is AMAZING!! Where are you from if i may ask? This is better than any AMSR i have ever listened to! Once again, amazing! 'Ie-siel-duhr' damn i cant even try to spell how you say it!
Wow these videos are awesome
Thank you very much
Awesome.... can you cover the other 2 groups that followed Sauron along side the Easterlings?
I actually find myself most curious about that Eastern group as a whole...... soooo many questions about their lore
Adil Zia I want to know about land in the Far east, beyond Rhûn.There live unknow n human civilizations known only to Easterlings
There's really nothing to cover. We know nothing about them.
Annatar be lookin’ like great destiny man.
God, I love your voice.
They just make movies after true stories of the past. We don’t realize how real some things in movies are
You should do a shadow of mordor and shadow of war video its a nice little series of games and history.
the valley of Udun....so that's the flames of Udun are from that Gandalf references when fighting the Balrog
Nice vid
Can you do a video on Black Numenoreans?
Yo sauron infiltrating the numenorians should be the story of the new series that's being made
Thank you!
wow, this is really fucking interesting. i had no idea about that numenorian-valinor invasion and eru illuvitar collapsing mountains and splitting the world (wtf). that's honestly insane. i love Tolkien.
Mordor nights are dark and full of terrors in the mountains of the doom
5:33 - Wait!
So... Orcs just showed the middle finger to *Sauron* and *YEET!* him?(!)
I mean Orcs seems to be quite loyal to Sauron. But Goblins are greedy creatures who disobey command whenever the time seems right
Just curious, in your videos do you record the audio first and then arrange the video graphics to fit the audio, or do you make the graphics first and then fit the audio to them?
+PathsUnwritten Audio first
I'll never understand the thinking of Eru Iluvatar in sinking Numenor after Sauron convinced them to try to sail West. Like, you KNOW how manipulative Sauron can be, why are you punishing an entire civilization because a piece of it was manipulated by the prime manipulator?
Because it wasn't a piece of it it was 90% and it wasn't all of Sauron's fault. Theywere terrible already centuries before he came there.
Zansi Moreover he allowed Sauron to what he wanted and only intervened after things went to $#!%. Hasn't he ever heard that a stich in time saves nine. Just kill Sauron and be done with it.
He also didn't even kill Sauron, he just destroyed his physical form and let him escape. xD
You knowthis is supposed to be the JudeoChristian god, right ? The one that works in mysterious ways too ineffable for mortal minds to contemplate ? Next to the Old Testament this is pretty in-character.
well, good Question but let me tell you this the people on numenor began to support sauron and became what we know as the Dark Numenorians...
The narrator sounds like an old-timey radio announcer at 1920's baseball game.
1000s of years of magic, rings that can transform people to ghost folk, and structures that are bigger than we have today, but no AK 47s...
Declan Roberts
Morgoth: Eh...never crossed my mind. **shrugs**
Gandalf: Well who needs these, these... *"guns"* when you have righteous! We wizards would give and teach more mortals how to use "magic" (to your lot that is) but...naw, you guys seem to be able to handle things well enough on your own. **gives thumbs up**
"These are weapons forged by elves...soviet elves"
Melkor's aka Morgoth's "Iron Mountain" fortress was described as having vaguely described impenetrable defenses that sounded remarkably like flamethrowers and automatic weapons.
Your supposition of a gun-wielder/gun-inventor being the "greatest servant of Melkor and the greatest enemy of Arda ever" has some real merit to it! :D
The only thing that could possibly make this any more awesome would be a 16 bit interpretation of these things. RPG maker anyone?
The fact that Sauron was held captive seems almost funny now
Anyone else cramming for the Middle-Earth finals?
This was entertaining :D
(Yes it is Angmar’s name father according to some)
tolkien was based
The relationship between Shilob and Sauron is pretty funny. It would be pretty good to read about their encounters and conversations they’d have. I hate spiders but for some reason they intrigue me the most out of all of the creatures in the Tolkien Mythos
Side note, Gorgoroth and Carach Angren are both fantastic bands
No mention of Golum(Smeagol)?
Few can switch from Star Wars to LotR gg friend well done
Wasn't gothmog the captain of the balrogs who stormed gondolin?
There were two named the same way i think. The lord of balrogs and the orc. I have my doubts.. so i need an approve or disapprove to that one.
While listening to this all could think is man I'm a dork.
Mordor is not that scary. I live in Texas :)
Sounds like San Antonio after dark :)
@@MisterTutor2010 Detoilet and Ookland :)
soo mby you should came to the Sosnowiec :D
at least you can walk through mordor and not get shot or baptised by the crazy locals wearing in thw closet cowboy hats
MisterTutor2010 Sauron is not scary when your President is Donald Trump.
Nice
Good video!
I... I love it
This is cool especially with the creepy gloomy music in the background
9:15 I knew black people were on middle earth somewhere
Well there were slaves so.....im just saying . Only kidding
Are there blacks in south of Harad? Or are they all simply middle-eastern?
do one on Dunland
