I built a hammering machine that destroys everything

- And with everything I mean my career. And yes, I use the term "robot" very freely. In the same way I use "you look great" very freely.
Go watch Good Mythical Morning's video in case you want to spend 3 minutes and 52 more seconds with the hammering robot: • We Made A Hammer Robot...

As someone studying to be a mechanical engineer, I can confirm.
Simone: banning obvious dirty jokes and puns related to hammers. Also Simone: "omg, this is some hard wood.... putting D-shafts in the hole.... dont get stuck in the hole"
with the calculator, im surprised she didnt say "now thats what i call, crunching numbers."
i was laughing tears -.... thats how i do my taxes ....

Thanks for bringing Hammer Bot all the way from San Francisco! He was...almost helpful, but definitely more helpful than Link!
Good Mythical Morning better than u guys could do
Good Mythical Morning you could say It's Hammer Time
they were making a joke, don't be upset.
Ethan Shohet They could do much better
Ethan Shohet I disagree slightly, they studied engineering in college.
"I feel like this would be so much easier if I knew what I was doing"
I need that in a shirt.
Because it's definitely me.
Yup. THAT I would buy :D

oh
Kento Nishi I thought that too.

You know how much thrust you can buy with that?
She’s in San Francisco the United States she uses dollars
That's what...nm
It's not just you Simone. Hammer handles are often made from Hickory, which is literally the hardest wood I've ever had the misfortune of working with.
That's useful to know. Thumbs up.
Oak is the hardest wood.
No actually. tinytimbers.com/pdf/chart_janka.pdf
Quebracho and lignum vitae are the hardest woods. I have already worked with the latter, it is really a tool-duller hardness! Gets a greenish tint from exposure to sunlight...
what suprised me on that list was pecan. i expected it to be lower. i know it is hard. thats why i made a hammer handle out of it. seemed like a good wood for the job. bit brittle though and likes to split with the grain. but it has a good strenth and integrity until that point
"are you upset with your computer? does your website not working right?" perfect 10/10
« I don’t call it safety, I call it sexy » 😂❤️
Simon, please never become a mechanical engineer. We all enjoy your suffering too much
When I was learning to weld, I set my leg on fire. Not my pant leg, my LEG. Well my pant leg was burning too, but I was more worried about my leg.
Did you manage to extinguish it since?
@@jcxz983 Legend has it, it's still burning to this day
Golden rule of welding: If it sounds like bacon, you're doing great. If it smells like bacon, buddy, you're on fire.
Whew! Now I feel better about setting just my shirt on fire. But I didn't know it - because I'd just used most of a rod and thought the heat on my belly was radiating from the work.
I was actually tearing up when it got to the dog... I have no chill

meelokun I hear that phrase a lot

This is hilarious. The robot dog was trying to get away from the hammer machine
it was animal cruelty!
It seems like the robotic dog had a sensor which help him not to go near to the danger...
the way the hammers shake as they swing is hysterical...i fucn love it
My favorite part of the video was Simone trying to stay serious and mature when speaking about D Shafts going into holes 😂😂😂 The struggle 😂
She really hammered in the fact that she doesn't wanna hear hammer puns.
She really nailed it.
Before things got hammered, they got stoned.
Simone is the embodiment of “That looks so easy, even I could do it!” and the results often vary.
THAT POOR DOG
I'm glad it got away 😂
I hope the person who got it took an 8 pound sledgehammer to it.
7:16 : "Oh wow. It's now again. Just like at the beginning of this video."
I'm in love....
As a welder, the welding bit was too cute, my favorite part for sure haha

*furiously stabs metal*
Me: ah yes, I see
Just took a sip of my tea before "D shafts". Thanks Simone!
Clearly the dog was practicing the third law of robotics...
... and breaking the 2nd.
It yelped when the hammer finally got it.
They've learned our weaknesses..
so whos gonna tell me what the law is
∞Music∞ just a guess, avoid harm
∞Music∞ the three laws of robotics:
1. A robot can not harm a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey any order given to it by a human being unless that order conflicts with the first law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence unless such actions would conflict with the first 2 laws
Sometimes you don't know what was missing from your life until you find it.
Simone : I've blacklisted "let's get hammered"
Also Simone: Uses that exact line on the Over-Engineered Bottle Opener 🤣

I've read a comment in one of her videos saying that she's like a real life disney princess, now i cannot unsee it. She is adorable.
"I feel like this would be so much easier, if I just knew what I was doing"
This is one of the most accurate and relatable statements I have ever heard.
"I made this, it's a thing" 😂
What are the rules about taking a hammering robot on airplanes?
Mitchell Warren That's an excellent question, you have me curious how that works now too!
"Hammer robot" is not on the TSA list of forbidden items, so I think it's OK.
Note: I am not a lawyer.
Don't
Starting at 6:35 .... this is golden... the pure contempt in his eyes and then Simone totally owns it with the "NO *ugghhhh* I GOT IT!! Byeeeeeeeeeee, thaaaaaaanks!!!" Then their look of "What the fuck just happened?!!?!?...." Either that was damn fine acting or it's just what I want it to be. Thank you Simone!
THANK YOU FOR THIS ACCURATE REPRESENTATION OF CAPS LOCK WRITERS1 I FEEL SO SEEN
I'm not sure if I watch these videos because I like them or I just can't look away.
I LOST it when you said "see ya later, calculator" I'm crying now.
I was doggone touched that you spared the annoying toy the hammer touch. That bit of compassion may have kept you from pooching your career. A WowPow of a video...keep knocking them out.
Most Engineers learn exactly the same way you do, by trial and error. Experience is the only thing that reduces the time it takes and mistakes that are made. The only skill that Engineers offer is perhaps optimization. Even that comes from multiple years of learning.
You are more creative than most of the Engineers I know. That skill is probably the most coveted of all. Keep up what you are doing. You're doing great!
Simone is my spirit animal
Doggo ?
#sexist
Now take your 100.000$ Robot Arm, give it a hammer, program it to hammer, and have a hammer off between the two robots - possibly even a deathmatch ?
she should enter robot wars
Ben Müller ROFL I had to read your comment three times to get through the riddle aspect of it.
I don't get the riddle, plz help
Or arm and hammer baking soda
Or battlebots for the US they didn’t do one for a while

You are so Awesome, I just discovered your channel tonight. I'm so glad you became a maker and not an accountant. I hope your recovery goes well, in my experience life changing events, well, they change lives. Betcha got a whole new perspective now.
As we say downunder...
Love ya guts!
Simone Giertz gets hammered, still hits nail on the head.
If any one was wondering... This is how I do my taxes. Deadpan fantastic.
"im just seeing how much my arm hair has grown" hahahahahahhahahaha ok, simone!hahaha
"This would be so much easier if I just knew what I was doing?"
So fun! Although I am glad to know that robots still haven't taken over hammering, so we still need humans to totally miss the nails and make our thumbs black and blue!
Wow. It’s 10pm here in Australia and I’m so stoked to see a new video so close after it was published!!! Love your videos Simone.
girllll I'm in Australia too 😎
Simone Giertz Wait, you're in Australia ?!?! What are you doing here Down Under?
Oh wow where in Australia?
Simone Giertz no way! Where abouts are you
Please come to Melbourne! Abandon Sydney just briefly to visit us!
This lady is quickly becoming my favorite UA-camr. Granted, Simply Nailogical, Threadbanger and Jenna Marbles had to basically quit or switch video styles to make this happen, but I have a void, and you are filling it madam!
I'm so happy to see another chick who's just as excited as me to use power tools & all kinds of equipment. You're my hero, Simone! 😄
"Space of some other shape" 😂
The world needs more hammer robots!
shitty hammer robots...
Can someone please make a Simone Giertz voice board? The way she says, "oh my god, this is some hard wood" is perfect.
I almost start crying when the dog cried at the first hit, glad he lived
Watching you try to Kill the dog haz been the most hillarious thing ever
A robot dog with self-preservation built in.
0:58 i laughed so hard at how feeble that thing is 😂
I love the ethos of “make the thing-thing don’t work-NOW we do the mechanical drawings”
I guess one can say she...
...succeeded in the process of making an entertaining and enjoyable video.
Is it me or are you getting weirder every time, Simone?
Seegal Galguntijak Its a weird cool
She lives in SF. We're all weird here.
lovely the way that you actually love machine and the effort to make robots..... :) inspiring
Omg. I just listened to your appearance on TED Radio Hour and this is the first video I’m watching. I instantly fell in love with you, your giggling, and your passion for your work. Keep the magic coming, this is amazing.
You cant destroy my dreams they were already crushed

Hammer machine typing: WHY WAS I CREATED? WHAT IS MY PURPOSE? WHY DO I EXIST? *Probably
You pass butter.....
Thank you, Simone, for building all the stuff I never knew I needed back when I used to build stuff myownself. Actually, I'm grateful I never thought of a hammering robot back then --- my projects NEVER would've gotten done -- mainly because both arms would've been in slings all the time. Sure is fun to watch your misadventures now, though.
8:48 Simone: "Someone's excited."
This video was literally made for “thats what she said” jokes
This is genius. Can I send my homework. Than I can say: I couldn’t make my homework because a hammer destroyed it. Maybe they will believe me because nobody have said that before.
P.S
I met you at bright day in the Netherlands 🇳🇱 and I gave you a drawing and stroopwafels, 1. Did you enjoy the stroopwafels? 2. Do you still have my drawing?
Yes I have your drawing on my fridge!!!
Simone Giertz yay the picture of you and me is hanging on my wall and is the background on my phone.
I love stroopwafels! They're hard to find here in the US.
Sam they are just so good the people here want to keep them for themselves 😜
Vera kok you’re pretty
I know this has been out for a while but damn that segway at the end to square space was amazing.
I found you because you, like my late Mum, had a brain tumour. I have subscribed because you are like a mystery box which when opened reveals so many fun surprises! Love what you do, wish you all the best in the future. Thanks for being you! :D
So this popped up in my UA-cam and now I have a new nerdcrush*. (* Strictly platonic nerdcrush) Also, when I do a mail run at work, I always refer to loading the mail in the cart or van as getting loaded.
Simone is 5'8 I think, unrelated.
Anyway I loved this episode and video so much, good work Simone!
i'm so glad you've done a video with GMM so i could find your channel ! this is so much fun, i love it !!! :D
9:21 the robot dog knows what is coming to it
Yay new video
Simon, I like you a lot, you are funny, smart and kind, I learn from you to be patient..
For not having much experience on the field of engineering you did a solid job on this one. I just dont really understand why you attached the hammers to springs instead of solid axis. Imagine a wheel of an old train with a bar attached to it. I would be very happy if you keep working on this "robot" and show us the results in another video :)
Hammering machines have been in use since the dawn of the industrial revolution. Then they were called
trip hammers, powered by water wheels, than later water driven heavy industry turbines that looked very much like the turbine section on a modern jet engine. Works about the same way. Used for forging or stamping metal. Even today, many blacksmith's have a smaller version in their shops, does the same as their hammer. Labor saving device for forging, and for forming metal in molds, like stamping shovels or in say stamping car fenders still to this day. Of course, they were quite a bit larger and far more powerful than yours. : ). Same difference though.
"Destroys everything"
*proceeds to not break anything harder than glass*
Remember those engineering programs in middle school. Yeah she’s a alumni.
Chris Jarrett I wonder if she could engineer her ways around a bandsaw box?
You are... so great. Keep it up! (I learned to weld last year -- so fun!!)
Best simone video ever (and I seem to have never noticed it was there while binging the whole lot since I found the channel last year)
You're *not* a mechanical engineer???
nah shes a mechanical genius
This video works really well with "Thunderstruck" as a soundtrack.
Hah! I'm listening to Hells Bells as I read this.
You are now my favorite human and my inspiration to finish these last few months of school before I get my mechanical engineering degree lol. Also Bay Area crazy people who like smashing things, unite!
A big salute to your hard work..
everyone needs a master rod polisher :v
No Simone! That's how google does their tax returns. Oh wait, never mind,
I liked it when she got out a third hammer to smash the laptop. So glad she gave RoboDog another chance. And ALL of it!
Simone has Grant Imahara energy, and I'm here for it. Rest in peace my dude.
You got way too professional.
