Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and best known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Prior to joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report,” which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one third of the time. Good luck, Bill!"

I think it wasn't scripted. The reactions seem too genuine on both for it to be acted. The hesitation of making him try it. The fear in his eyes (lol). The mild disgust at the unclean toothbrush. If this is acted, props for both of them.

he didn't get the credit he deserved for the 'brush with death' joke
VeroMithril it's a tooth "brush"
"Brush with death" is a figure of speech meaning "a close call where you could have died" (like narrowly avoiding a car crash or something), but in Stephen's case he was having an actual "brush" (brushing his teeth) with the possibility of death (because the robot seems dangerous).
Now I've way over-explained the joke, but does that make sense?

I think it was an improvised joke and they couldn't' hit the 'laugh' button on quick enough for the audience to respond. I think that could be why the audience didn't laugh at any of Simone's jokes either.

my father was an inventor and a fiend, and one night he goes of more creative than usual. Mommy gets the makeup cleaning brush to defend herself. He doesn't like that...not one bit. So me watching...he takes the robot to her, laughing while he does it. He turns to me and he says: "Why no makeup?" He comes at me with the robot. "Why no makeup?" He puts the lipstick tube on my cheek. "Let's put a smile on that face." And...why no makeup?

I always figured if you had to clap with one hand, you'd come up with a technique to still make a sound. Like slapping the fingertips against the palm. Sounds a bit like fapping tho.
I believe the question should be rephrased to "What is the sound of one hand performing a clapping motion, but not meeting another hand at the end of it?", in order to maintain clarity. In the original phrasing, the answer is clearly "fap fap fap" as explained above.

She has lived in a lot of places including San Francisco and I think Canada. But I too wonder how she totally lost her accent.
The problem she says she has is that she sounds like she is from either the US or Canada. Someone will be talking to her and say they are from say "Colorado" and she is like " and that's a city somewhere?" She is now in San Francisco and is getting a crash course on all the American Idioms.
She also speaks Chinese and was on a Chinese sitcom when she was an exchange student at 16.
Simone should be back on this show, IMO. Lots of positive events have happened with her. ( surviving multiple tumors and creating Truckla to name a few )
