The civil tree war has been going for a while. I remember a table saw with a paper blade, used to cut wood, for example (look up "Can paper cut wood?" here on youtube)
I don't know If you tried this, but scissors don't have straight blades. The shears curve inward towards each other creating a pinch point that moves forward as you close them. This eliminates slop and negates the need to have perfectly matching edges. You can see it if you align the cut with a light source and close them slowly. So maybe curving the shears a bit inwards may help.
You're allowed to run with swords because if you have a sword then often there is also someone else with a sword and the danger from your own is relatively low in the context.
Yeah, they're up against a wall, so the danger isn't immense, but if it was my shop, I'd find an amusing cover (and I think boxing gloves sound about right) so that stumbling around didn't lead to unintentional spearing...

Scissors aren’t flat. They have curved faces so there is always tension and they always make contact with each blade at a point that moves down the blade as you cut. So if you can put a small curve on each blade it will work, but not so much that you can’t overcome the bend when you close them. And since they are 1/2 in thick steel, the problem is that you won’t be strong enough to open or close them maybe. Unless you build a hydraulic piston hand, which you should do.
I was thinking the same thing and as a blacksmith of course I want fire fire fire so heat the inside of each blade with big OxyPropane rosebud (maybe just a couple hundred degrees, and then hit it with a hose and it'll warp into a nice curve. Or hydraulic press, cuz we all know life is better with hydraulics,,, but then again fire FIRE FIRE!!
With a pair of scissors -- real scissors -- the two blades are actually slightly curved toward each other. This ensures that the two shearing edges actually make contact with each other down the full length of the cut. If your two shearing edges are separated by a hair's breadth, that will probably be enough to prevent a shear. Even if your two shearing edges have contact initially, but lose that contact later during the shear, then the complete shear down the full length of the paper will fail. That's why the two blades are bent slightly toward each other: it guarantees blade-against-blade contact down the full length of the shear.
A few folks have mentioned the curvature of scissor blades, but also a large aspect of how they work is the left/right pressure of your fingers, which is why there are lefty and righty scissors, even though they basically look the same. This is just the giant, very drawn out and maker’s version of “I need scissors to open the new scissors”
Omg that LITERALLY happened to me TODAY. I moved countries and didn't bring anything with me other than my clothes and toiletries. I rented a completely empty apartment (not even a fridge, nothing) and had to furnish it from scratch. Naturally, I bought a lot of things, like tools and kitchen utensils, that came in tightly sealed packages, so I also bought scissors. I had to ask my neighbor, whom I hadn't met yet, for her scissors in order to open my own scissors. The new scissors even had a "cut through here WITH SCISSORS to open" little icon on the package. Ridiculous! 🤦🏻♀️

Running up the stairs looks deadly
Yeah, but tripping down the stairs is okay (except for the falling down the stairs part)
It does to be honest, maybe they should add a cover so that the sharp points are not a threat. At the very least i can see in the future a sleeve get stuck in the sharp point and getting torn.
Simone please cover the tip so you don't get hurt if you go up the stairs in the dark
I was just thinking about you this morning! How weird is that! Great video and good to see you again!
She's so adorable and awesome. Keep kicking ass, Simone!
I loved the irony of watching you cut out the paper templates...with...scissors.
The year is 2043 Simone Giertz built a giant work bench. One of the few human made constructs which can be seen from space.
7:41 Needs more Kiwami Japan.
Also, I'm so happy there is someone in this world that would run the extra mile so that he could run the extra mile with a giant pair of scissors

Love the scissors. "Running with Scissors" in the park may have been my favorite part. Genuine LOL! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
8:07 Coolest welding helmet ever!
I was just talking about you to someone last night, so good to see you back as bad ass as ever.
I can only hope to one day have half of the strength, smarts, determination and hilarity that you do in such abundance. I hope my daughter has many more women like you to look up to as she grows up. Keep on keeping on sister! You are frigging amazing. ❤ p.s awww i cannot believe that you've actually read my comment. Thank you! Hope you are doing well 🤩👍
I discovered your channel for the first time yesterday and I'm obsessed! My family and I are binge-watching your vids!!! Thank you for being so unique and creative and setting yourself apart from the rest of the typical YT community. Your work and passion are extraordinary!
I check your channel a few times a week to see if my notifications arent working. Love your stuff bud I hope we can see a lot more videos!
"It actually cuts f*cking paper!"
Actually lol'ed at that bit.
So left or Right handed Scissors? that could your problem, wrong hand
that does apear to be a pair of lefties.
source - left handed person with a jealously guarded set of left hand bladed fiskars
I think they r both handed scissors
Yup the model scissors were right handed but the big ones turned out left handed. I don't think anyone noticed and it really doesn't matter at that scale.
Is that why I can't use scissors? They're all left handed?
dragging those things around, she looks like an anime protagonist that starts the series with zero ability but gets given the most OP weapon that they dont know how to controll yet, and by the end they kill a god and/or demon king
big minitures = bigatures. (coined by the folks at Weta Workshops that built the massive models of the towers for the Lord of the Rings movies)
glad I checked the comments before posting...😁
Yeah, but those are big (relatively) models of things, that are still smaller than the original things. What Simone did is take something tiny like a pair of scissors, and enlarge it to many times it's original size...
I bought pair of scissors because I needed them and needed a pair of scissors to open them. Wait...what?
I saw Simone using scissors to cut the scissors template & had a simillar odd feeling.
@@tonysansom Remember the Sparkfun soldering iron kit that requires a soldering iron to assemble? Or plans for a 3D printer that include a lot of 3D printed parts?
