Please, never use better help. They're on average, worse than going without therapy. Any positive experiences come from people without serious mental issues. Most people fortunately never have to deal with significant mental issues. At worst, they'll suffer from stress or mild depression. (Which, if its their first time, can of course feel overwhelming) Betterhelp works really well for mild issues like that. But the issue is, it creates a false deluge of positive reviews which are not indicative of the true quality. It would otherwise be a fine practice, but their advertising is fraudulent, and they often fail to present their limits to customers. And that's just the tip. There's the shady business practices, unqualified workers, selling of personal data etc. Stay away from them...
They had a clause saying they do not guarantee their therapists are actually professionally licensed. They later deleted that clause which doesn't mean they do make the guarantee. A jumping spider once did it's mating dance to me. It was unreal!!! Sitting at an outdoor table at this burger pub joint and this jumping spider would not leave me alone, insisting on remaining on the table edge nearest me, staring directly into my eyes. After 2, 3 attempts at relocating him he kept coming back ultimately to do the most amazing dance number. I felt honored. Jumping spiders have long been a friend of mine, allowing them safe passage and live and let live when spotted indoor and out. Amazing little arachnids. Truly feline-like.
I noticed the great sound effects used when the jumping spiders rotate, and the little mechanical whine during the microscope scene. Whoever you are, sfx person, awesome work.
Humans don't realize how blurry the edge of their vision is unless they think about it or consciously pay attention, I wonder if the spider's brain does the same thing for them, where it feels like everything is in color and detail even though it's actually only the center of the vision?
Can you even define it as "blurry"? I don't see it as blurry. I just... can't recognize any particular detail, unless I know its there. I guess that's the same thing.
Was coming to say the same. It's not that we have a very blurry vision except a small patch of high detail. Of course maybe scientists know that spider brains are too small to create internal representation of the world with enhanced details from memory like we do.

• Of the electromagnetic spectrum, humans can see a tiny sliver. If the total spectrum were expressed as 1000 miles, our color vision would amount to a few inches. • Visible light ranges from red at longer wavelengths (around 620-750 nm) to blue/violet at shorter wavelengths (around 450-380 nm). • Wavelengths roughly in the middle between red and blue are interpreted as green. • If both red and blue light are detected but green is not, we experience it as purple. • Purple does not correspond to a single wavelength of light; it is perceived by our brains when both red and blue light are present without green. • Therefore, while all color is a mental construct used to distinguish between a few wavwlwngths, purple is the most "imaginary" color because it does not exist as a distinct wavelength on the visible spectrum.
@@andrewcocos there are specific wavelengths that correspond with brown (basically the same as orange) so if what you care about is wavelengths, you might say brown is not imaginary.

a lot of academic software is purpose built on old systems, win 7, etc, which win updates would break. you see this a lot at university and government facilities.
Plus certain updates can cause issues just due to hardware. On my previous computer, if I used the latest drivers for my video card, it had a tendency to cause bad things to happen. It just wasn't compatible with the motherboard I had. Rolled it back to the OG driver, no issue, so set that sucker to never update. But a less computer savvy person would potentially not know how to do something like that or, in the case of a shared computer (which a note like that would indicate this is), not know what is and isn't okay to update.
The Leica microscope software is horribly sensitive to changes in the operating system. Windows updates can leave you with a microscope that won’t talk to the computer.

Little does Derrick know… I was watching his video on a Quatro tv with a yellow pixel led added in with the standard RBG… the ball was in fact…. Cream color the whole time.
Hum, the video only has RGB information, no yellow. How does the TV determine when to light the yellow LEDs? And why would that show different than on an RGB TV?
@@renedekker9806 you’d have to look in Sharp’s Quatro TVs. Also, I was somewhat joking about the ball color. I chose an off white yellow color to be funny. The yellow pixels were lit on the ball, but so were the red and green ones. The red one was dimmer and it was mostly yellow and green.

Please, never use better help. They're on average, worse than going without therapy.
Any positive experiences come from people without serious mental issues.
Most people fortunately never have to deal with significant mental issues. At worst, they'll suffer from stress or mild depression. (Which, if its their first time, can of course feel overwhelming)
Betterhelp works really well for mild issues like that.

• Therefore, while all color is a mental construct used to distinguish between a few wavwlwngths, purple is the most "imaginary" color because it does not exist as a distinct wavelength on the visible spectrum.

a lot of academic software is purpose built on old systems, win 7, etc, which win updates would break. you see this a lot at university and government facilities.

Lol they won't offer you sponsorship. If they do, you'll get down on your knees and accept it and even lick their feet if they want.
how/why everyone know that Better Help sucks or something? Did something happened that missed me? I hear about it for first time so I wonder
@@PinkeySuavo they use non licensed "therapists" and sold sensitive data
@@PinkeySuavo they sold patient data and got blasted by some US authority for it
Some UA-camrs have made videos about how terrible BetterHelp was and still is. Do a search?
Are you seriously supporting Better Help? I would've thought that a UA-cam Channel with such great reach and such great research put into every video would vet their sponsors more.
Tom Nicholas made a great video about Derek making entire videos advertising for companies that throw money his way.
@@BlackMarluxia you gotta do what you gotta do to put food on the table
You do understand that this kind of video needs money.
Right?
@@ankitnmnaik229 Yes, and there are plenty of sponsors to choose from, especially for a big channel like that. They can pick the sponsor and thus vet and research them.
I don't say that he shouldn't do sponsorships, I totally understand that a channel needs it to make money.
But a channel that size, especially since it's about science and education, should look into the sponsors they decide to take on.

Such a great and cool scientist!
We buy our dogs brightly coloured red balls so that WE can find them when the dumb dog knocks it into overgrown patch of nettles and won’t go in to fetch it.
Buy your dog a blue colored ball then. Both humans and dogs can discriminate blue from green
then get a blue ball...
Even better, get a blue ball with red details
@@starshot5172 fuq yeah
but how does that explain why the betterhelp scam is sponsoring this video?
"we needed live x-ray footage of the inside of a spider's head"
"so we hooked it up to a particle accelerator"
Well... That escalated quickly
i hope that wasnt how they understood human eyes
-So how did you find out what colors they can see?
-Magnetic spider football!
Sciiiiieeeeence !!!!!!
Good spiders get to play with the ball, bad spiders are sacrificed to the spectrometer
Veritasium, You are insane! Thanks a ton for the fascinating content you make

Vsauce is like crabs of youtube world.
Everyone will eventually evolve into him.
hahahaha
I'm glad that I'm not the only one who immediately thought of Vsauce's video lol
I feel like Vsauce was good like many years ago. And now is just like clickbate shorts
what do you mean everyone evolves into crabs?
@@PinkeySuavo crabs around the world evolved independently

Genuinely insane that such a respectable channel is accepting BetterHelp sponsorship money in 2024. Be better
maybe he doesn't know
if you have problems then report it to police or relevant authority on fraud or any company selling private information or breaking the confidentiality contract, dont complain it on a ybter's comment page. you have a brain, use it. stop crying like a baby.
@@TheObnoxiousSquirrel There is zero chance someone like him didn't do any research on his sponsor. I guess the suitcase full of cash was big enough for him to abandon his ethics. 😒
@@kjh23gk You ever heard about breach of contract? Maybe you should look it up. Stop being so naive and generalise everything.
@@Jackson_Zheng You ever heard about due diligence? Maybe you should look it up. Stop being so naive and thinking you can only research a sponsor after signing a contract with them.
Pikachu Parade and Pokemon GO in a Veritasium video. Neat :)
Anyways, what fascinating little creatures and what incredible science and research. I always quite liekd Jumping Spiders, but now I like them even more. Awesome video again, Derek!
Putting spiders in high-energy particle accelerators? Isn't that how monster movies start?
I tried my best and I did not leave with superpowers
Just accelerate the spider. Problem solved
no for that you need radioactive green goo. the high energy particle accelerator is for the training after it
@@oliviaharris6178But we will not mention the cute puppy sized mutant spider that went home in your backpack 😜

This is one of your best videos created, well done (apart the ad).
This is simply the cutest Veritasium video I've ever watched. Definitely in my top 10 of your collection!
