We have had our new pup for 10 days he 9 weeks old, and your training is amazing. This little guy surprises every day during training. Thank you for all the demonstrations. They certainly do work.
Was watching this as my pup was chewing on me rn cuz the other training we've been doing does not seem to be working at all, and she stopped chewing on me to listen to your voice 😂😂😂 so i showed her and were watching it together. Looks like we mightve found what i was looking for
Your videos have made me so confident in raising my puppy. Everything is just so much easier and I can just focus on spending quality time with puppy. Thank you so so much
This really works!! I have a boxer puppy. I’ve been trying this with her since she was 10 weeks old. She’s now 11 weeks and it really works soon as she nips at me or she bites at me I can pick her up tell her no I hold her collar and I just wait until she calms down once I feel that her body is relaxed. I don’t use treats. When she does the command love and I pet her and I tell her yes and it works so now when she gets ready to bite she kinda knows don’t do that or I’ll tell her no and she she releases. It’s as if she forgets when she nips, but when I tell her no, she releases.
I call this period with my white German Shepherd the blood bath. I found something that I only had to use once and she never bite me again. And it wasn't mean or harmful. I used a spray bottle of water. Now she did however steal it off my dining room table and took it to her dog bed. Where she barked at it. She was and still is hilarious.
@rachellewalker2967 - She locked me out of my house via the sliding glass door also when she was 3 or 4 months old. My hidden key didn't work to unlock it. Luckily my 19 yr old daughter never locked the front door when she left for work so I managed to get back in without having to go to my neighbors house to call my daughter at work to come home and unlock the door for me. I never left the dog inside while I went outside again. She trained me well. 🤪
I’m about to try the spray bottle. I have a 3 month old GSD and she is a shark right now. Nothing works. Not collar holding, not collar pop, not toy redirecting, NOTHING 😂.
I have a 9 week golden and this is literally a game changer. Settle is now a command for anything we dont want bitten! Couple this with some bitter apple spray and some redirection with chew toys and I have seen significant improvement. I feel like in 2 more weeks he will just not bite us!

for my foster puppies (most 8 to 10 weeks old, I have fostered 15 so far) when they bite aggressively i grab their collar or scruff and give it a few gentle shakes with a firm NO; i use more energy if required. Works all the time and teaches the puppy he needs to listen to me. People should not be afraid to give fair and mild corrections to their puppies/dogs to stop unwanted behavior.
Girl, you are stunning and have wonderful energy!!!!! Thanks for the tips!! I lost my sweet girl on Christmas eve to a brain tumour :( But just got a new bassat hound pup named fern! 💓

I squealed every time my puppy bit me and immediately stopped playing with him. Mouthing was OK, but any pressure wasn't. He'd stopped biting by 12 weeks old.
Can you make videos about training non ideal puppies? The puppies I have don’t really play or even like anyone. They’re abandoned rescues and we have no clue how to train them because they are afraid and not motivated even after over three weeks living with us
Do they like food and toys? If they do, then the pro low half-solved. Training gets easier and better if puppies/dogs like food. They serve as motivation ❤
Consider the rule of 3s. Three days to decompress, 3 weeks to start testing their boundaries and learning how the place works, 3 months to really settle in. They don’t just bond, especially if they’ve had some upheaval. Some dogs and breeds will be faster but it sounds like you might want to get them desensitized first because any dog in a fear state could tend to aggression. Try just doing hand feeding but focus on keeping yourself small and calm. No eye contact, soft tones, even for correction. Lots of “you’re okay”. Build trust first, then focus, then you can work on anything you want.
I’ve had several rescues and one in particular took about 5 to 6 months to adjust. I took her on lots of walks and was always always calm with her. If she got really wild and stressed I left her alone in ‘her’ room, later I put her in her bed and gave her lots of time to calm down. I never got angry or yelled at her or even punished her. Rescues don’t get that, to them yelling etc is aggression. Just gave her down time. She ended up being the best dog (although she never liked little girls under about 6 or 7 years old). She didn’t ever bite them but seriously avoided them.
My puppy is a landshark when I present a treat. Any tips for teaching treat/training manners? She is 9 weeks old, I don't expect a lot. However, she came to me knowing how to sit at 8 weeks. A little too smart to not be trained well 😂
I can tell you how I've trained all of my dogs from pitty mixes to labs to the newest adopted an 11 wk old lab who was rescued from a crackhouse in deplorable conditions. ( he is so happy now!)It is the one thing I make sure they learn right along with "sit" from day 1, I will put the treat or kibble in the palm of my hand, to begin I make a fist around the treat/kibble..give command with name to sit..then I say "nice" or "gentle" but stick to whatever you pick. Offer my hand so they know there is a treat in it. It they try to nip or lunge for it with teeth I pull back my hand and repeat.."nice".. "Nice" gently but firm ..offer again. Pulling my hand back as many times as it takes soon they will figure out to lick to get to the treat. When they do, that's when I will slowly open my hand and after awhile they realize they are NOT going to get that treat with teeth. My coonhound/rottie mix is 9 now and he is big and has a ferocious sounding bark ..but is as gentle as a lamb. I am 100% fine with kids having food or treats for him..that's how gentle he is. I hope this works for you! I still do it once in a while, just like I will ask him to shake or other simple fun commands we sometimes put to the side and forget. They don't! ❤ She sounds so smart- she will pick this up easy!
My 4 months Golden retriever are out of control with biting and nipping and I don’t know what to do 😫 I give small ice cubes and cold carrots 🥕 for help him with the teething. Good luck everyone 🫶🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾
Any tips for handling step 1 for a puppy that doesn't wear a collar? We use a harness and leash for walks or other outdoor activities but no collar due to the breed and size of the dog.
If I try to grab my 10 week old Aussie Shepherd/ border collie’s collar he starts to squirm and bite . He injured my fingers the other day because of his squirming. Also most times we aren’t even playing when he bites. We walk him 1km in the morning and try to play ball outside with him a couple of times and then take him for a 1 or 2km walk before bedtime.
Sounds like you are using the right formula with exercise. Maybe add some mental stimulation. The smarter the breed, the easier they get bored and the choices they make for entertainment aren’t always wise. Herding dogs are nippy/mouthy by nature. He’s not playing but herding most likely which means he doesn’t need settle but rather correction on what he is and isn’t allowed to herd. I don’t know of any herding specific but check socials to see if there are any herding specific trainers who have some tips. My collie/shepherd mix would randomly grab pants legs when she was bored as we walked by. We took it as a sign to give her a job and would tell her to go find someone or go get one of the other dogs.
Like was said in another comment here, training treats. You'll see them. Or ask. Also obviously don't train and treat all day. Do it like 2 or 3 times a day.
we have a blue heeler. she is 3 years old. she herds our guests. nipping at them to get them to the door to leave. she knows the people. and is not afraid of them. and there is no tension in the house when they are here. how do I stop this?
LOL, I have a friend with a red heeler who does the same at her house. Remember, they are a working breed so she's doing exactly what she's bred for. Interestingly, when I look after my friends dog, she gets way more exercise with me (I have 2 dogs and run them daily where she only does long walks at the weekends), I'm very strict with all the dogs and she never displays this behaviour with me...
Unfortunately, you have a dog bred for this behavior who is also bred to be somewhat independent. They also tend to be one person or one family. You are going to have to make the correction, and take the control/alpha/decision making position because otherwise she will. I agree with making sure she gets enough exercise before guests visit. Also, using positive reinforcement, training her to focus on you rather than the guests (especially difficult with this type of working dog) could be helpful. If you still are having issues, and I say and mean you because you need to learn how to communicate an expected behavior and the heeler is just doing what she is made to do, then try finding some herding training specialists in your area, where they can give you skills to work onto exhaust that drive and to control it.
Sounds like your puppy requires proper socialisation and training. Depending on the breed, they can easily get bored which most times leads to barking a d destructive behaviours.
My dog is around 1 year, Ive done some training but usually i toss a treat on the ground. To hold her collar while giving her a treat would be knew to her. Can i still train her? Perhaps i just need patience. Shes big lab, very friendly but also hyper. Its difficult to pet her because she gets so excited and wants to put her teeth on me.
I am facing a strange issue. I did one of these exercises with my puppy and now he feels he has to be aggressive to get the command settle to get the treat. So we start the play, first he used to go after my hands but now he goes after my shoe laces and then ask him to settle (which he does immediately!) but as soon as ge gets the treat, he is at it again! He is 50 days old!
I wish @McCannDogs would at least show they read the comments and questions related directly to the video we take the time to watch, like and ask a good question like this.. you have a smart pup!
My puppy only knows how to engage with her very sharp strong jaw. I take ahold of her collar until she calms. But then she for about 2 seconds gently bites and if i move to gently pet her its back to very aggressively biting.
My dog is 4 months and she turns randomly on a leash and she’s so aggressive. I’ve tried everything. If I hold her by the collar and shake it. She gets so much worse and it’s hard to control her. I’ve held her down for many minutes and she is so wild. She never gets calm that makes it worse. When I let go she goes after me again. If I touch her collar she freaks out.
@@Canaryhxh I have two other dogs I have a 13 year-old and an eight year old… So the puppy was getting out of hand and the 13-year-old literally attacked the puppy. He bit her in the face and he shook her. My puppy has a hole in between her eyes missing for and a huge cut. Her muzzle was swollen because he got her pretty good. I will say that the puppy completely changed after the older dog got a hold of her… So she’s no longer acting super crazy however, sometimes when I’m outside, she will still try that with me to run and jump up and bite so immediately I just tried to redirect her by telling her sit , or I start walking her on a very short leash, encouraging her to come for a walk or I turn my back to her or I put my knee up when she goes to jump at me I put my knee up at her to kick her off and then I sort of make a loud noise like “ AH “ And then she sorts herself out. I’ve noticed a dramatic change in her behaviour within the last two weeks… I would just be consistent with whatever you’re doing… This puppy is a lot of work… She’s definitely different from my other two dogs.
she explains it at 10 min mark. if he doesnt understand that you grabbing the collar is supposed to make him calm, you need to work on the first exercise again, where you reward him for beeing calm and you grabbing the collar.
So my pup only nips when we stop playing, if we start playing soon after she nips harder, she only tends to aim for my hands tho and feet especially if we are playing fetch she brings the ball and then nips
So we have taken on a 6 week old pup. I noticed most videos are for 8 weeks and up. What should we be doing for younger pups? He’s still on wet food and mushy kibble mix.
Hey @sleepydrj nylon is nice and lightweight but can easily burn the hands if it’s sliding through your hands or the dog pulls. Leather is a much nicer product for handling and creating change in tour walking training. We’ve been building our for many years. You can get one at www.mccanndogs.store Happy training!
may i ask for an advice for our 6 months old mini bullterrier, he is biting and nipping my gf, and this behaviour is getting out of nowhere, totally random circumstances the dog just start all this really bad and seemingly never stopping behaviour. He is getting really crazy, jumping, biting, really excited and cant and wont stop. we tried many discipline with and nothing seems working - for me nipping stopped, i was not rough but way more firm and used strength as well when the dog was about 4 months old. Not sure that strength is the only way to get the dog calm, we are even thiking that the dog may be dominating already, but not sure if such thing can happen at 5-6 months.
I know how you feel. I also have a Bull Terrier, and the first year and a half was tough because they have so much energy. Biting, digging holes in the garden, chewing up the kids' toys, jumping on everyone-but as they get older, it gets better. She's now 9 years old and is one of the gentlest dogs I've ever had. I wish you all the best with your Bull, and with lots of patience and love, you'll get through it.
My puppy is out of control all the time. He will come close to me bark really loud and nip at my knees. I’m a runner and it make me very nervous. Im so frustrated . I’ve tried everything people have told me to do.
Guess I've been lucky or taught my dogs not to bite or nip without knowing. All but two dogs I've had were herding dogs and never had problems with them nipping even though they are predisposed to do so. The worst was my most recent Lancashire Heeler. He would act like he was about to take a mouth sized chunk out of you but soon as he bit down it was the softest little nibble it almost tickled.
Did you see little Steven's behavior? He was not playing by the rules at all. If you have a out of control puppy and need special help then maybe you may need a trainer one on one
I have a puppy that almost always fails the noodle test, is there a way to help this? She just turned 1 and is a corgi/aussie. Thought maybe since she’s so long that maybe she’s uncomfortable?
Usually dogs will try and “correct” the other dog like a quick bark or growl. Does the 8 year old dog just let it happen? If so they may not mind if the puppy is not being too rough.
I like learning how to train my puppy but if I hear that YEEEESSSSS one more time I'm going to throw a fit. Can't you just say yes correctly? It is so annoying!

I’m dealing with the same thing with 13 weeks terrier mix. When I grab his Collar he freaks out and tries to bite me more. Have you had any luck?

Okay.... And if the puppy keeps trying to bite you when you're holding its collar?
she explains it at 10 min mark. if he doesnt understand that you grabbing the collar is supposed to make him calm, you need to work on the first exercise again, where you reward him for beeing calm and you grabbing the collar.

So my pup only nips when we stop playing, if we start playing soon after she nips harder, she only tends to aim for my hands tho and feet especially if we are playing fetch she brings the ball and then nips
What if you don't have a collar?
Our 16 wk mini schnauzer is being aggressive, biting too hard, growling at us and attacking our older dogs
So we have taken on a 6 week old pup. I noticed most videos are for 8 weeks and up. What should we be doing for younger pups? He’s still on wet food and mushy kibble mix.
6 week old puppies should not be separated from their mother. 8 weeks is the perfect age.
What if the puppy is just biting to make you stop him and give him a treat?
I started biting my puppy back, she stopped pretty quick
Why do you say to use a leather leash?? (Why not nylon?)
Hey @sleepydrj nylon is nice and lightweight but can easily burn the hands if it’s sliding through your hands or the dog pulls. Leather is a much nicer product for handling and creating change in tour walking training.
We’ve been building our for many years. You can get one at www.mccanndogs.store
Happy training!
if i don't use a collar on my puppy in the house?
may i ask for an advice for our 6 months old mini bullterrier, he is biting and nipping my gf, and this behaviour is getting out of nowhere, totally random circumstances the dog just start all this really bad and seemingly never stopping behaviour.
How old is Steven in this video
I think grabbing the collar assimilates the bites from the mom to calm the children down
👍❤
My puppy is out of control all the time. He will come close to me bark really loud and nip at my knees. I’m a runner and it make me very nervous. Im so frustrated . I’ve tried everything people have told me to do.
If you are unsure it’s going to be hard to train him. You’ve got to be in control. He senses when you’re nervous. Get some 1-1 help asap
@@DeAnneRidge yes I will. Looking into getting an in house trainer to come help. He’s not a bad dog he just has ALOT of puppy energy
I swear you guys always chose well behaving poppy. Why not show this on a difficult puppy. I mean this one barely moves. Common.
Did you see little Steven's behavior? He was not playing by the rules at all. If you have a out of control puppy and need special help then maybe you may need a trainer one on one
@@Draek25 I think he's being sarcastic
Seriously
Puppies are usually playing nipping and biting their littermates . Its hard to play with them without them using their mouth.
None of this works for our puppy.
First, you have to tell us how and where. We come from desert, dry, cold, warm places.
Plus the dog is an easy video
I have a puppy that almost always fails the noodle test, is there a way to help this? She just turned 1 and is a corgi/aussie. Thought maybe since she’s so long that maybe she’s uncomfortable?
That's how alien controlling us now 😮
How do I get 5 month old stop biting 8 year old dog? He is better at not biting humans.
Usually dogs will try and “correct” the other dog like a quick bark or growl. Does the 8 year old dog just let it happen? If so they may not mind if the puppy is not being too rough.
Shoot. I’ve tried this, my pup notices no more food or rewards and just goes back to nip
what if ur pup doesn’t wear his collar inside the house
Hands are for petting not biting. Play with the dog with their toys not your hands.
If only you could do all that training with men.
My puppy just wiggles out of my hand and then bites me and scratches me. 😮💨 She has ADHD.
My puppy bites me to get the treat
So you reward puppies for bitting... not gonna happen
Fala demais e ainda tem uma voz insuportável
Far too many treats
I like learning how to train my puppy but if I hear that YEEEESSSSS one more time I'm going to throw a fit. Can't you just say yes correctly? It is so annoying!
idk what collar to use even xs dont fit for my puppy, shes too small
My wife loves it when I bite softly so I do it a lot 🧌 seriously 😳 a lot
