This worked great for my 11 week cavapoo. All of the other techniques (ignoring, redirecting to a toy, saying ouch, removing my hand) did not work. This one worked instantly and has slowed down her biting tremendously. Thank you! I’ve shared this video with other puppy owners.
We are getting a 7-mo- old rescue pup this weekend. He is currently in foster care. I've been watching your channel. Your videos are inspiring to me. Thank you!
I am fostering a 6month old puppy that has spent majority of her short life in a shelter. I haven't raised a puppy in many years and she is behind the 8ball as far as training goes - thank you so much for the video ❤
I truly appreciate and love all your training videos. I have been learning so much and incorporating these techniques with my 16wk old shih tzu and he follows and learns! It makes me so happy that you have made my puppy training so easy. You all are awesome!! Thank you so much!!
You're a great communicator and truly enjoyed your teaching methods. I just followed you on instagram just now. I can work with my 2 month old puppy with a bit more confidence.
Thank you for this video, it's very informative and helpful. I have a 14 week old Shih Tzu that likes to nip and bite. I will definitely be working with him on this tomorrow.
How can someone deal with a good and bad behaviour at the same time? She went inside her crate by herself but also started biting everything like crazy 😢 how do i praise because of the crate but correct the biting?
Thanks. This is helpful. My staffy puppy is alreadyv7 months and seems to constantly wanna chew. She seems a little better but I need to have a chew for her to sit on the couch at night. Have a created a habit though? Also when I get home she wants to still grab my pants or toes, should I be doing this for that? Can't crouch down low like you
I've been looking through your content, listening and learning about what to do if I were to get a dog, but I'm curious, would you recommend a dog for somebody who gets burnt out easily if they don't have a big enough motivator or obsession over the person, animal or area?
I think one of the best strategies too is with what energy you come towards your pup or cat. Honestly it does help try to have the best leader energy. Dont be afraid ,nervous ,sad wtv emotions you get remember they would sense it. I think this is key.
This is super helpful. I love the step by step instruction. I see my 2 yo dog doing the scruff hold to my 4 month old puppy when they play. Is that normal ? It looks rough sometimes. And she drags her a little at times, too.
I feel like training videos address bulky puppies. I have a Biewer and I don't want to damage his neck (we went through trachea collaps with last dog}. he is very light and 16 weeks old and a bitey little so and so. please demonstrate with a young toy breed some time.
You are right, smaller breeds of puppies are more fragile, but they are also less of a real problem for nipping/bite-play though, both in bite power and in the fact that big dogs can get really dangerous when grown and untrained. Some small dogs can be biters through-out their life and not do more than scratch the eventual guest with their teeth, but a big dog that's like that can be a big problem. Many of these bigger breeds don't mind confrontation either, they will impose their will on you if you don't impose yours on them. A clear show of dominance becomes important when they are young because they take it with them, and they will let you control them when they are grown and could drag you down the street. They retain a memory of you being much stronger, and the challenge not being worth it, especially if you keep them well fed and stimulated physically and mentally. When they don't have much to complain about, they will yield more easily.
Hey there! We just uploaded a new video about how to get your dog excited to learn and motivated by food. Check it out: ua-cam.com/video/6zNdxFEPRBk/v-deo.html
She should show us with a GSD puppy. I have a 5 month old GSD puppy and he's pretty big. I have bruises and bite marks on legs and arms. It's very hard to get him to stop.
Thanks for your help. Very useful. Question. I have a 7 month old Lab. Got him at 8 weeks. He has never barked or growled. Dream dog, yes. BUT, I wonder if some dogs are born without the ability to make sounds. Looked it up on google. It seems there are physical issues that can cause this situation. However, he exhibits none of the symptoms. Have you come across this before?? Thank you.
This did NOT work with my border terrier mix. He was still able to reach around and bite my arm and he got so riled up it resulted it a pretty major time out all around… He can’t come near anyone sitting down without biting. We’ve tried ignoring, redirecting, giving him a toy instead - nothing seems to be working. I tried this today and it really didn’t work…I’m sure it’s me but we are really struggling with this.
Sounds like it is time to work with a trainer irl. Videos can only get you so far, and I think both you and your dog would benefit from personalized guidance on how to work through this. Best of luck and patience!
It sounds like you need to perfect the hold to a point that he can't reach around. Did you try tightening the collar more to make sure he doesn't have wiggle room? If a hold isn't possible with the strength of the trainer or the size of the dog, the other dude's probably right about a proper trainer.
This was the same with my high drive super confident pup but we got a martingale collar and pull the loop up and then release when he sits and relaxes and it’s made a huge difference. We also made a flirt pole to play with by tying a toy on the end of a horse whip from tractor supply to satisfy his herding instinct and it has calmed him down significantly.
I am afraid of this with mine, as well. He's much bigger than this puppy in the video. He has a HUGE/WIDE mouth and is all teeth so I'm not sure how successful this will be for me either. The martingale collar mentioned below is not a bad idea. I may try that instead.
Yes it did!! had to follow the technique and strong boundaries. She is 9months now and is an amazing dog! I’m glad we found this video and stayed consistent.
SO timely- really struggling with this yesterday and today but it is hard to envision with our 4 lb little girl with much of the biting being when she is held. I am doing the corrections but placement of hands etc. is confusing .
This kind of training doesn't work with every dog. Some pups need to be taught with e collars and leads to really get control. As much as I like positive reinforcement, I've found out it's not completely dependable with some dogs. It varies on the dog but I'd recommend also watching the dog daddy if you searchem on UA-cam you'll see the wonders confidence with lead leashes etc
Yep mine too! My baby is 7 weeks part German Shepard. She goes into attack mode and bites the heck out of my hand and I’m doing the training the same way. Very frustrating.
Is ur collar fit? I Feel ull have to stand or be in a position where the dog cannot throw his body around bc u are in controlled of his neck / body. U won't be able to sit like her bc the dog is small lighter
My pit bull puppy does not respond to the pulls on the collar. It makes him more agitated and starts to turn and lunge or jump and nip at us. Perhaps I'm doing the movements/corrections wrong?
@audreystegg5862 Thank you! She's been biting the leash a lot and tangling herself, so I try to untangle her, and she growls and bites. Thankfully, when the leash is off, she's fine.
Our groodle does that all the time. She keeps chewing our home slippers, garden shoes, towel, bites our feet, hand, garden bricks etc. Is it ok to allow her biting the shoes but not the feet? Can't she be confused? We are the first time puppy owners, so don't know much.
My 9 weeks giant schnauzer baby, will fight until the end. And getting crazier, he destroyed a full bag of trash and bite my pants won’t let go afterwards which he has never done. He’s acting differently afterwards not listening and peed everywhere. I was very regretting did this to him. I don’t think unprofessional should just do this after watching the video, every dog is different, unless you would really know what you doing. How do I undone this? 😢
What do you do when your 8 month old rescue two months in is lunge playing, mouthing and nipping? He's deaf and fast as lighting...or I'm just old! Ha ha I just can't catch him fast enough so he thinks I'm playing and comes back for more. He's a punk lol
We hired a dog behaviorist and she was a court appointed bite specialist so she would help when dogs were going to be put down because they bit someone. She would help get that dog redemption and not get put down. So I really trust her a lot. But she says our puppy, who mouths our hands a lot but never really hard and never aggressively, is totally fine to keep doing that. I have a really hard time accepting that answer. Am I crazy or is that crazy?
If you don't like it, it's not ok. She's used to the worst case scenarios; her job is to keep the badly trained dogs alive, and she is certainly conditioned to accept a "good enough" approach. But if you don't want your dog nibbling you, just train them out of it the way they do in the video. Especially if you have a dog expected to grow a lot, those nibbles will hurt when she's older.
My 3 month old Shih Tzu is a baby shark. When we stop playing as he gets carried away and starts the bitey game, we get up, move away and sit down. Then, he goes yapping at us to get us to play but we ignore his demands. He also loves to attack our feet and toes. 😫
If they're already getting sufficient exercise they may need a bit more mental stimulation from things like Interactive toys, training sessions, new experiences, nosework, letting them lead a walk or switching up your route, rotating their toys, games, etc. You can also try feeding them in slower more fun ways like lick pads, kongs/toppls, food dispensing toys, scatter feeding, using their meals for training, etc
My blue heeler pup is so smart that he is a quick learner . And he totally sense my energy, and i sense his. I love him. I have always been a cat mom, but i was nervous about having a pup, but oh boy, i am doing great more like we are doing great. 😂 i hope it stays like this. Wish me luck and good luck to everyone and their pups ❤🌠✨️🫶🙏😌
This was so helpful. Using a naughty puppy was so realistic
For real, i feel like this is the first video that was real time training
This worked great for my 11 week cavapoo. All of the other techniques (ignoring, redirecting to a toy, saying ouch, removing my hand) did not work. This one worked instantly and has slowed down her biting tremendously. Thank you! I’ve shared this video with other puppy owners.
This video is amazing. It literally took two corrections using this method and my cavapoo completely stopped biting.
Didn’t try this yet but I also have a cavapoo puppy he bites and nips so much

Fantastic video. Will get to work on this tomorrow, with Barney, our 11 week old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Thank you
McCann Dog Training, I really enjoyed this video, so I hit the like button!
I love this video. I will try it tomorrow with my 10-week-old blue beagle. Wish me luck
Awesome. Thanks so much
Thanks for sharing:)

Seriously. I can't imagine how raising my puppy would have been if I hadn't learned all this valuable information
This is so good! Thank you.
Would this work on a 5 month puppy? Our 5 month aussie starting mouthing once majority if his baby teeth fell out.
You're a great communicator and truly enjoyed your teaching methods. I just followed you on instagram just now. I can work with my 2 month old puppy with a bit more confidence.
Thank You so so much.
I have had so much success with McCann puppy nipping training with my minpin Luna! Thank you for all your energy and support!
Could you do this with a chihuahua too? I have a chihuahua puppy.
I REALLY needed that today. Going to try that in a sec! Thank you ❤
This is so helpful seeing it, thank you!
Thank you for this video, it's very informative and helpful. I have a 14 week old Shih Tzu that likes to nip and bite. I will definitely be working with him on this tomorrow.
How has the nipping been going with your pup? I'm starting the process now of getting my pup to stop biting our fingers and everything.
Youre amazing Kayl

Look into relaxed breeds with less exercise requirements
This worked great for my toy poodle. She chilled off.
This video saved my life 😳

My scratched up legs and hands would be grateful 🙏
Idk my dog just escalates the fight super quick or starts to spazz around like he’s having a seizure really quick as well. He’s a jack Russel btw
update was just a puppy lol he no longer does this and is very patient after I annoy him all day.
@@kahlilthepiperhow old was he? I am in this phase with a 9 week old, super spazzy despite me trying to calm him!
So what do you do if they don't care about food ?????
Have you tried tiny bites of Hotdogs , chicken , ham , apple ?

Why do heelers always look batshit crazy lol
How does this technique work for a 7mth old 70pd GSD puppy?
The exact same way. Just gotta be able to hold them. I have an unruly deaf teen too. It works when I can catch him. Punk! Lol

Did not work on our dog who we adopted from what we thought was a shelter. He lived with a foster mom for months who did not do anything with the dog.
How to do this without a collar? My vet told me to not use collars because of possible neck trouble.
I tried what you said but Bailey was still nit wanting to listen and work with me and now she's rebelling by peeing on the floor...what do I do?
Btw ur dog has the same name as my dog
My pit bull puppy does not respond to the pulls on the collar. It makes him more agitated and starts to turn and lunge or jump and nip at us. Perhaps I'm doing the movements/corrections wrong?
Yes, this just seemed to escalate things and agitate our doodle.
You've got to hold them by the scruff too.
Will this work on a 1-yo husky who was just rescued from being euthanized for play biting when he gets too excited? Otherwise, he’s good.
How old is this puppy. Can I do this with my 10 week puppy
Thank you. I need to practice this with my goldendoodle
How do i do this with a 9 week old pomeranian without hurting her.. she wears a harness instead of a collar btw
I'm in the exact same boat with my 12 week old pomeranian
@2000lovesong I'd say it still works with a harness, but probably not as effective 🥴 she is a lot better, though. Just be consistent!
@audreystegg5862 Thank you! She's been biting the leash a lot and tangling herself, so I try to untangle her, and she growls and bites. Thankfully, when the leash is off, she's fine.

What do you use for treats. Or do you just use pieces of his dog food? I need to get a fanny pack and have some food in there at all times.
