Global Shave Club’s R41 Tribute Razor vs. Muhle R41- a side by side shave.

- Trying out a new razor today from the Global Shave Club. This one is an R41 tribute razor. Let’s see how it measures up to the real deal.
* The Tribute R41+ uses a light steel handle and a Zamak 8 head versus Zamak 5 used throughout the Muhle. Zamak 8 has a very high tensile strength, it isn't as brittle, and is much more durable.
* The Tribute R41+ is intentionally head heavy and has a different balance point than the Muhle. This negates the habit that most shavers have of pressing down.
* The R 41+ is aggressive though just a tad less aggressive than the original. This opens up the efficiency of the R41 head design to a larger community of wet shavers.

I shave already with a R41 for several years and I love this razor, my favorite blade is now a Voskhod blade.I bought a 100pack on ebay for $6
I recently took the challenge to shave with my R41 (I call him Bismarck) with Feather blade in it, and I managed not to cut myself. I normally use my R41 on mondays after the weekend, during which I normally don't shave. "Bismarck" does the job very well in the proper hands, and provides a very close and effective shave. I prefer the more "aggressive" razors, because when I use milder ones, like my Merkur C34 for example, my face is not as smooth during the afternoon. Preparation, a good soap, sure hands and no rush are the secret of the R41. My Bismarck is an extraordinary good razor and will always have a place in my repertoire.

Happy Birthday Ken! Lake Elsinore has a population of around 60,000 people. The city has had over 60,000 visitors just in the last month because of the flowers! People suck, not only did people literally STOP and park ON THE FREEWAY, they left trash, dog crap, clothing, waterbottles...you name it! Stomped over all the flowers just for a picture. Several let their dogs off leash and let their dogs get bit by rattlesnakes. Really smart guys, one of the reasons I hate things like Instagram and "location tagging"

Talk about a close shave, wow. Those are "Dracula's favorite razors" right there if you aren't careful, shew! I've not seen the Munsters in a long time and I fell in love with the T Buckets after seeing a few episodes when I was a kid. Hey Ken, maybe you can get to try the Leaf razor with those Gillette Wilkinson Sword Saloon Pack blades.

I have seen this crystal skull more than once. But still cool. My brother also did not like shaving with a safety razor before. But I shaved him in the chair several times. As in the barbershop. Now he constantly shaves himself. Using Merkur Futur. Thank you very much!)

I don't understand what is wrong with the younger generation???????? I knew about people, events, movies, music and many other things that were WELL BEFORE my generation in terms of Pop Culture and that was without the benefit of the Internet...You'd think with the immediate and convenient, literally in the palm of your hands, access to entire WORLD they'd know more or at least have some curiosity and look things up without being told or guided....

Just ordered a sample pack of Gillette Wilkinson Sword blades, along with Astra blue Stainless and Gillette Silver blue 5 pack sampler. The Gillette Wilkinson I'll be getting were made in Shanghai, China. Could the blades be counterfeit?
I love the Munsters use to watch re-runs in the 90s when I was a kid. I believe that the show no longer reruns on television anymore which is a bummer.

Hey Ken! I am fairly new to wet shaving, and my wife and I are moving to Papua New Guinea to be missionaries. I have a razor called the “one” razor, and I don’t know how long it may last. Have had it about a year. What would be a good razor that I wouldn’t have to worry about since we will be there at least 2 years at a time? Don’t have allot of money. Missionary budget’s aren’t the highest lol. But I don’t want to get stuck with no razor either. I have ordered a ton of Wilkinson Sword Blades on Amazon so I have that part covered. Good video Ken . I have around a week of hair on now and I need a shave . What I will do is take it down with my Philips oneblade trimmer . Then shave with my Merkur 38c . My barber was having a sale I got a new best badger brush for $18 . It was $65 . I am going to try it with proraso red Sandal wood .

When I got into DE in late 2011 I bought an EJDE89, but 6 months later I bought an R41, it blew me away! Incredible shave but a lot of guys are afraid of it. I bought a Fatip OC then and the R41 along with the Fatip is hard to beat. I also bought Semogue 820 and 620 boar brushes which I love. I find pure badger a little to soft. I wish Muhle made a SS R41, but I’m about to buy the Rocco R94.

I searched a bit and £7 in 1960 is now about £160, 8 being 182. So somewhere in between, should be somewhere at $208-237 dollar. I don’t really think you overpaid, this was a very expensive razor at the time :)
I find that I prefer the global shave club tribute r41 plus to the Muhle r41.
Of course without the Muhle r41,we wouldn't have a tribute r41 plus.
Both are decent.
And the Muhle r41 is well loved..
I don't reach for the Muhle r41 anymore.
I may revisit it again but this morning I used my tribute r41 plus and it did great today.

Great review Ken! I was wondering why the Futur razor therefore was not your favorite, just to aggresive? I got me one and oh boy even on setting 1 it gives a close shave, but no nicks, so that's good!

What are the benefits of along handle?
Richard Riglin some people prefer holding the razor at the end of the handle, I choke up on the razor so either works for me.

Happy Birthday Ken, nice shave comparison. I know you said at the beginning of the video that when you have long hair that you're likely to cut or nick yourself. I'm not disagreeing with you, but I find that the longer I've waited to shave over two days. I get smoother (BBS) shaves than I would if I shave sooner. Anyway, just my experience not scientific.

As I love straight razors, I also love aggressive razors. The lighter tribute may surely not be for me, and I generally prefer heavy handles too. :) Thanks for the comparison.
The only light razor that I have and that I love is the PAA Walbusch "Humpback" tribute, the Alpha ecliptic slant, aluminium black. It's really efficient and slightly aggressive.

I really love the rose muhle r41 and as previously stated in other videos, you've helped me realize that I generally prefer more aggressive shaves. Feather or Bolzano blades in it are a perfect combo for me. Lastly, my heart still breaks (as I have already mentioned to you) at the loss of your Twilight Zone machine; however that Munsters one is really bad ass!
