Earlier this evening, I tried my Muhle R41 with a first use Feather blade and wow, you definitely influenced me to do that. I cannot be more pleased with the results. No nick's, weepers or irritation and bbs smooth after just a two pass shave! You are definitely inspiring me to try new gear/combos and apparently I thoroughly enjoy aggressive shaving razor/blade combinations.
Hey Ken, what a setup for a Friday off shave. Super aggressive razor that bites even through the cushion of this interesting donkey milk soap. Wow! And what a brave man you are. Fulfilling all of ours and vendor’s requests. One can really feel the respect you have when trying these unfamiliar products the first time. But one can also feel how much you appreciate the inventions by the growing crowd of wet shaving enthusiasts. Great job Ken!
I use the same Alum Block so can relate. Thanks again Ken for taking one for the team. The feedback sound had my toes curling and praying for a cut-free neck. Nice job.
Tried my first shave with a Feather blade in my WSP El Grande handle today. Happy to report after three passes I did not chop my head off. I "blame" you for my bravery! Great Shave Ken!
I like feathers, hardly feel it going across the face, Derby's are another of my favourite too though feathers are much sharper I hardly ever cut myself and they seem to last a good 6-7 shaves for me anyway. Derby are nice but I find sometimes I need to do a clean up pass after my three pass shave
I’m in your neck of the woods for vacation, Ken and UA-cam viewers are clamoring for a Shaving Summit! I don’t know if they’re ready for that powerhouse team up, but wouldn’t it be cool?! Great shave. Loving Southern California.
Ok this is prolly my favorite video so far beacuse you added the post shave equipment and materials care that I've wondered about thus far. I really want to buy that razor now too but alas I'm still on my second wet shave so I will post pone it lol. Thanks for the videos again.
Love the video Ken! I am really interested in these types of razors. I only have the basic Rockwell but would love to upgrade at a later date, since I mainly only shave my cheeks. But, I like playing with facial hair too much, so the beard will be coming off one day. I am learning a ton from you.
You know what I absolutely hate about your videos the most Ken? Is having to wait and watch them until I need to shave LOL. Wonderful video, and congrats again on your 10k! And those who thumbs down are amateurs.
Thanks for letting me know about Global Shave Club. I may have seen or heard the name bandied about, but I really knew nothing about them until I watched your video.
Try the GSC R41+ Tribute razor. All the efficiency of the Muhle R41 without the bite. Truly an improved head design. Wonderful. Just wish it were made in brass or 316 stainless.
Hi Ken- Great shave and product reviews; thank you! The shaving soap seems nice- I have a MER Shaving duck fat-based soap, which is a very nice, too. I hope you have a great weekend ahead and all the best!
I love those almond-shaped blue eyes Ken! BTW, for about $20 bucks more you can get the Razorock Gamechanger...machined stainless steel and no blade overhang on the sides. It's also the perfect balance between mild and aggressive, in my humble opinion.
Congratulations on the 10000k subs Ken. You have a great channel with interesting content. Keep up the awesome work and thanks for the effort you put in to all your videos. 👍🏻💈
Thanks for reviewing that soap Ken. Mershaving makes great duck fat soap for a great price. Unfortunately, the shipping is kind of high. The ingredient list on that soap you just reviewed looks amazing. Just about every Tallow imaginable is included.
That was super efficient but super aggressive. Probably too much for me I won't even try the R41 and have never went above 5 on my 6s or 4 on my Progress. I actually tried the dial up method with my progress, you should give it ago. Have you ever tried a Wet The Face soap, I think you would enjoy the new Perfect Cup one. Have a great weekend Ken. See you soon.
Great shave Ken!! I'm teaching my 13 year old son the ways of wet shaving, just like my dad taught me. I use the Viking Chieftain razor, Astra blades, and the razor I'm teaching my son on is a Viking Godfather razor, Gillette mild blades. He has about 5 wet shaves done so far, and is loving it. I just have him starting with the Proraso line of soaps and all, until he gets more shaves down. Really enjoy your channel, but I do have to ask. What is the slickest soap you have used this far?
I find with all my single edge and de's, although they may look or even be designed after certain razors, too all perform differently, even with the same blade type.So many variables and options, makes wet shaving a great interest or hobby in my humble opinion. Thanks Ken for the video, appreciate it.
Get video Ken. I have a question regarding CREMO products. I received a tube of the peppermint shave cream as a gift and it does not lather anything close to my other creams or soaps. Any advice?
Hey bro it’s Jon Actually it’s five out of five on a PDF file on the website for the ristretto raiser yes it is very aggressive shaves great if you know what you’re doing and use the right razor blades for you and the razor requires good technique and time to get a awesome razor shave 🪒
Great Job Ken. Very nice razor & brush. The razor may feel too aggressive for me unless I use a Voskhod or personna Red which are 2 of my favorites to the Gillette Wilkinson.
Hey kensurfs I’d be careful with that intro music, UA-cam is crazy about copyrights and demonizing. Wouldn’t want to see you get hit. Thanks for the videos, got me into wet shaving. Saved money, and my face! Wish I knew about proper shaving in my navy days!
Shawn Goldsberry more useful than the required online training everyone glitched to pass. I do miss the portcalls and being stationed in Japan. Were you also in the Navy?
key kensurfs, quick question for you: how does the razor differ from the blade in affecting your shave? i've noticed that both you and sinatralennon use different razors (e.g. gillette fatboy, and in this instance, the ristretto razor) which are separate to the blades that are used. shouldn't the only factor affecting your shave, theoretically, be the blade thats used? thanks.
"If you're not careful." I was in a hurry last Sunday morning when shaving with my Gillette slim (on 5)Persona blade (which was on its 3rd use) & nicked the living day lights out of myself! I took some skin out of my chin! I rubbed a steptic pencil all over my face and throat which staved off a bloodbath & potential transfusion! Glad you survived!
I find aggressive razors give me slight razor burn but I am careful enough to avoid cutting myself. My Yaqui open comb is about as aggressive as I want to go.
Seems like one of those razors where the aggressiveness mostly comes from the razor being too harsh because it was cheaply made and therefore sold at a cheap price? I've had very similar experiences, specifically with the Van Der Hagen safety razor. It's aggressive, but really to harsh for my skin and seemed cheaply made. And the first pass left roughly the same amount on my face still compared to the first pass I would do with my Merkur 23c which is far more mild in my opinion.
Ken, could you possibly do a review of Phoenix Artisan Cold Spices shave soap and after shave ? Could you possibly compare the after shave to original Shulton Old Spice.
Always makes feel a little better when I see a big hitter can have a less than perfect shave .. Ken what would your top price you'd pay for 5.7 ounce British Sterling? Loved that stuff back in the late 70s
If I were to send you a prototype conventionally machined solid brass DE head of my own design would you give it an inspection or possibly a test without publicly review.
Nice vid. This razors head is very, very similar to the Rapira (that sells for less than $5) but with a different handle. The problem with Global Shave is their expensive shipping charges... Might have to try the donkey milk soap now.... cheers
Close shave I'd say Ken💈 The Ristretto worked like a stiletto😉 A little "bloodletting" is to be expected when using such aggressive hardware the first time or two. Did pretty good though👍 Gotta love the burn bro... Great video, thanks. Enjoy!
Great shave Ken. I'll pass on agressive razors these days. Russell is now home and recovering and he's trying to get used to his medication that they have prescribed him.
Hey Ken. Know that most commercials get approval to appear on videos..but just saw commercial for "beard cape". The intro looks identical to yours. Is that coincidence?
Ive been interested in getting my family members into wet shaving do you have a recommendation for a gift set? Or am I better of piecing together all the parts.
Do I see Creed Aventus back there, Ken? New or have I just never noticed it? I’m not sure if you have Stirling Soap Executive Man or Royal Forest by TOBS but I’d like to see someone compare it he scent of Aventus to any number of the homage soaps to see which one is the best/closest
Razorock Emperor is really close to the newer and more fruitier batches of Aventus. P.S. Kevy Shaves did a TOBS Royal Forest shave a couple of months ago.
Thanks for sharing the video, Ken. I have a rather heavy beard, and I prefer more aggressive razors. I might give this one a go. That soap looks great also, my only question is...how did they milk those donkeys without getting kicked in the head? ;) Congrats on 10K subs, cheers!
Looks way too aggressive for me and I like an aggressive razor (I love my 1930's Gem MMOC just BC of the aggressiveness) but those little bleeders are waving me off of this razor. Great Video Brother!!!
Observation(not a criticism or critique): Given this razor is classified as Aggressive and not for beginners, perhaps, a heated towel over an application of shave oil(or any oil) then topped off with a highly protective lather would prevent such a razor from cutting into pimples and such. I know my experience that when all the aforementioned are applied, in combination, there is rarely blood drawn even with a very aggressive razor.
You missed a pre-shave, which would have helped you not nicking yourself so easily. Definitively looks really nice, but a milder blade should be used. Maybe a Derby or a Voskhod. Very nice shave, as always, Kind. BTW, I'm doing a 15 blades 15 shaves series on my channel. Check it out if you have some spare time. Thanks.
For expert shavers? Jeez guys, how hard do you think it is to hold somthing on a handle at 30° and slide it down your face in a way that doesn't cut you? I've been doing this safety razor thing for a month and I could of saved a lot of wasted time and money with Gillette superspeeds and techs if someone had just threw this at me and said you can do it, it's not the bad.
Don’t change anything about how you work up a lather. Your doing fine. That’s one of the reasons I have dropped many subscriptions is because they spend a third of the video working up a lather 😴

Mike H do ducks store fat in their liver?
Hi Shawn- Yes, some breeds do and produce the delicacy known as foie gras. Mostly though, fat is rendered from the thick duck skin.
Mike H 👍💈
