3 more Meshuggah Reactions coming over the next 3 days....drop a like on this video if you’re ready for more OBZEN🤪 genuinely lost my mind listening to the tracks you guys recommended off of this album and can’t wait to share with you, stay tuned 🤩
COMBUSTION??
@@camdrouilhet6892 👀 maybe...maybe not....🤷🏼♂️ either way, it will be done ;)
So excited about this, hoping for an Elon Musk cameo lol. Make sure to watch the Alive DVD version of Pravus for absolute Jens madness
@@alexanderschildknecht2090 Pravus makes my head spin, in the best way possible.
Pravus! Lethargica!
There is no wrong way to headbang to Meshuggah.
-The Demon's name is Surveillance
-Elastic
These 2 tracks would be amazing to react to.
Demon's name makes my legs hurt just thinking about it
It's THE best meshuggah song hands down .. the best 10 minute metal song ever created .. it grows upon you with time ..
You'd be an absolute legend if you reacted to the entire CATCH 33 record (basically one big song) sometime on this Meshuggah journey, I think nobody attempted this on youtube yet...it's a lot to take in but so damn worth it. Their masterpiece imo
My favorite album. Hearing the track "Sum" at the end really sums it up.
@@x5ync555 I agree, this and Dehumanization are absolute madness. Unbelievably heavy, especially in the context of the entire album.
@@alexanderschildknecht2090 I can't get enough of In Death - Is Death, that jazz section is ineffable.
This would be absolutely legendary. Probably my favourite metal record of all time
This NEEDS to happen!
Meshuggah tracks (and most meter-meddling music) gets better with repeat listens. Once you know what to expect at certain moments of a track, you can allocate more attention to just appreciating the music instead of trying to follow the meter.
With Animals As Leaders' music, I still can't follow the meters after 100's of listens, and don't even try. I just get to know the music as a series of "phrases" that I can follow in my head. It's more fun and natural to me than counting all the time :D
But the thin is that when you know the meters and able to airdrum or knee-drum to it, the experience is 100 times better
"Pravus" off this album is un-rail
One of my favorite songs when they play it live!!
probably the hardest hitting song on this album.. and theyre all hard, so thats saying something
Make sure to watch the live version!
@@matthieugrieger Studio version first...always
Perfect description of the hypnotising effect the extended sections have. When they just groove out the same groove long enough that it morphs into something just insanely heavy by repetition.
Periphery is heavily inspired by Meshuggah
If the snare sounds off, listen to the cymbals or the hi-hat.
"If something sounds off, listen to something else within the track" - always good advice with Meshuggah! XD
If the the snare sounds off you're banging right
Thomas often hides 4/4 on hi-hat, its nice when listening to the hi-hat, you get the idea of the basic rhythm. I just love Meshuggah.
Behind The Sun is a must listen for you in my opinion. I have watched all of your Meshuggah reactions and I think that song has everything you would want in a Meshuggah song. It starts off pretty slow and heavy in a doomy way and it keeps building and building until the song is over and by the end it is some of the grooviest and most neck snapping shit they have ever put out. It's not a very popular song of theirs also (for some reason) so it would be perfect for one of those videos!
One of their best tracks imo. Crazy build up
One of the few tracks Jens Kidman wrote himself too.
@@lewis2207 Wow, I never even knew that! Super cool
@@trevorbook9529 he also recorded rhythm guitars on their Contradictions Collapse album. 🤘🎸
Head banging? Check out Do Not Look Down, IMO their most groovie song ever! :)
Their second most groovy song ever, probably. Most groovy has to be GLINTS COLLIDE!
You did it brother, this is the single greatest Meshuggah track thanks for the great content
Catch 33 full album when you’re more familiarized with Meshuggah 🙏 (not for beginners)
Hard agree. This song is ridiculously groovy. Absolutely criminal
This is my favorite Meshuggah song. That ending it's just mindblowing. Now you should react to Do Not Look Down. It hits harder than my stepfather's belt.
From ObZen you should listen to Pravus
Thanks for making me laugh and be depressed at the same time... ;)
"His name is Jimmy and he want to survive!" - Ripeturd by Pee Roughly
I’ve listened to this track hundreds and hundreds of times and still struggle to headbang to it, you definitely aren’t alone! Polyrhythms are incredibly tough to get your head around, makes it all the more impressive that they can play it perfectly in time live
You, sir, have just discovered Meshuggah's 9th symphony ;)
Even though being crushingly pessimistic lyrics-wise, Meshuggah provide us with a very rare gift of comfort: a resolving melodic theme after minutes and minutes - and eight preceding songs - of steamrolling, devastating dissonance (at 8:57 in your video), reoccurring at the end, after the solo. It gives me the chills every single time.
You should definitely check out the live version too (Ophidian Trek)! Thomas Haake (the drummer) once said that Dancers to a Discordant System is their best track on obZen, but at the same time seriously doubted they would ever perform it live - because on the album he is the one doing the vocals in the verse.
I guess every song that isn't Bleed is Haake's personal fave off obZen... just because everything else is so chill to play. XD
Meshuggah translates to madness, but in my opninion it also translates to RELENTLESS. They just keep crushing! God damn, these guys make some heavy grooves...
Btw; there is beauty in the chaos; from 8.58; pure bliss, and so melodic.
I love this react👏👏👏
Still hoping for NEUROTICA, gotta do some more from Chaosphere🥳🙏🏻
If you want to do another song from obZen do Lethargica next, has one of the heaviest drops you're ever likely to hear in the middle.
Bro, I strongly, STRONGLY suggest you listen to the ObZen album opener "Combustion". Its a relentless fast and brutal track that contrasts with this one and for me it's one of the best album openers I've heard, just a monster of a track. Enjoy!
Hearing that Live back in 2014 when I saw them was so insane!! And they played Pravus that same show!!
At 7:35 in this video is where the sickest bass line comes in. The section which follows is fucking amazing!
If you’re looking for not-so-popular tracks for meshuggah, “combustion” off the obzen album is such a great song that is often overshadowed!
Meshegga Pravus live from Tokyo! It is a one of a lifetime performance
Favourite meshuggah track is Corridor of Chameleons. They've never played it live. This track is awesome though, it alternates between counts of 2 and 3. What I love about meshuggah is that it is state of mind music rather than meldoy and all of that shit. They achieve a state of mind. If you want melody and riffs though along these lines? I'd say check out symphony x and dream theater
'The Last Vigil' is a track that you really should check out in your own time. It's a very melodic, calm and incredibly hypnotic instrumental track that wouldn't make for a good reaction for that reason but trust me...it's so beautiful, I unironically listen to this before going to sleep. It's crazy to think that a band like Meshuggah can pull off something like this. It's great to get an impression of their musical diversity. Highly recommended
Please do this and Acrid Placidity
Last Vigil almost feels like the band is trolling you at the end of that record. And I mean that in the best way possible.
@@sankharaYT I was really surprised when I heard it for the first time but I grew to love it. In fact all ambient sections in Meshuggah tracks are amazing...I hope for more stuff like this on the next record!
I don't see Concatenation getting much love anywhere, so there's my recommendation. Probably the angriest-sounding Meshuggah song, and one of the hardest to find the beat... you'll love it!
and the concatenation remix. its slower and much groovier. sounds heavier in a sludgey sense too
Drew, you need to get back to Karnivool, you listened to Change and loved it. Off the same album “Sound Awake” the songs Simple Boy, Goliath, All I Know, The Caudal Lure, Illumine and Deadman are Karnivool at their absolute proggy best. Please react to any of them 🤞🏼
I'm really new to Karnivool, is 'Sound Awake' a good album to start with?
Man i love your content so much, not many people react to obscure metal and rock like Meshuggah and stuff and your reactions are so funny and absolutely amazing!! please never stop
Thank you bro❤️
When you can't find the hi-hat the next best thing is always the crash.
I always find 11:31 such a great payoff moment - masterstroke of a change.
This is THE funnest song to play on an 8 string. Smashing it with the reactions lately Drew my man👏
❤️
I still want to say, if you ever have 45 minutes to kill, Catch Thirtythree is an absolute behemoth to tackle, but has some of the most memorable, experimental, and heavy stuff Meshuggah has ever done. If you run through the entire album from start to finish, letting it build up through its natural progression, the breakdown at the end will pretty much break your sanity.
Though for a more conventional and less popular pick, I'd say Corridor of Chameleons from the Chaosphere album. It's total madness from start to finish!
I think I’ll do the shorter tracks first and tackle that one late my man! Sounds like fun though 🤠🤠
@@DrewFortune97 keep it on your list though, that album is beloved
In Death is life/In Death is Death is a MUST REACT. Words don’t do justice... mindbendingly GREATNESSS!
Some truly great sections on Catch Thirty-three. My favourite is probably the eerie solo/ breakdown part in Entrapment.
Nothing compares to hearing Dehumanization for the first time, my head exploded
The grooves oh my god
The head nod at 7:10 is perfect!!
100%
Im still gonna say this, you HAVE to do "do not look down" its a fucking banger
two not so popular meshuggah tracks to check out
Our Rage Won't Die and Behind The Sun
but they're absolute bangers
Good suggestions, the last riff of Our Rage Won't Die is slowly becoming on of my favourites in their entire catalogue
I've suggested Our Rage Won't Die like 5 times. Behind the Sun was one of the first songs I liked by Meshuggah so that's a banger too.
Ritual and behind the sun both underrated
Don't normally comment twice, but since you've reached to a lot of UK bands, you should check out Monuments. Their lead guitarist and lead from Tesseract used to be in a band together. Highly recommend the song 'Denial'. Has guest vocals from Spencer of Periphery. Cheers from Toronto.
Do Rational Gaze!! The Leo DiCaprio song... 😉
Why is it the DiCaprio song?

@@kilo3975 Thank you. :)
On the topic of Prog:: The band Rush are top bill when it comes to the genre and are easily one of the most revered and respected bands across the rock spectrum, not just prog. Be it instant radio rock coated catchy tunes, to 20 minute multipart sci-fi themed progtastic odysseys, they are the in the highest OG echelon for prog. Tracks like 2112, or Xanadu helped write the book on Prog and everyone from Dream Theater, Tool, Opeth, Muse, Steve Wilson to tons more will always lionize their influence.
I recommend this whole album it’s a banger
This is one of their best tracks, lyrically as well
MY PERSONAL FAVOURITE!
Your progression as a metal fan is amazing to see bro. Just how when you first heard Bleed it was understandably too much for you at first. But when it finally clicks and you understand it for the first time it's just fucking beautiful man
❤️
he actually did it :0
but seriously, thank you for spreading positive vibes with your videos ❤️
❤️
Djesus, you're just stuffing us with that sweet MESHUGGAH content now, and I'm loving every second of it! DANCERS is such a fantastic track! Super glad you enjoy this trip. Cannot wait to see which tracks are next! Keep it up! :)
(Oh, and here's my obligatory MARROW request!)
Ok here's me again, making sure you know that "Behind the sun" by Meshuggah will hit you like a mountain :D
Headset went flying towards the end of the song. My goodness!!!
11:26 WEEE TRUUUSSSTTTT, SO WE'RE BEEEEEEEEEETTTTRRRAAAAAYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDDD
Epic!! Meshuggah - Electric Red. Haken - The Architect. Tesseract - Of Mind: Nocturne/Exile
You should check out a British band called Sikth. Alongside meshuggah they were another one of periphery's influences. and one of the daddies of the current tech-metal scene.
Really class analysis on the gradual process regarding the absorbson of heavy music over time. Diving into the deep end with the throttling ton of thunder that a band like this throws at ya isnt the easiest experience when you are only hearing it for the first time. So fair play lad, in yer thoughts and perspectives on how you have zoned into the music via repeated listens and chats about it here. Im totally new to this track and got what you were saying about it. The repeated bludgeoning of the riff just becomes mantra like over time.
My man Kyle!🤘🏼🤘🏼
keep it up! I love your Meshuggah reactions
Amon Amarth - War of the Gods
Amon Amarth - Free Will Sacrifice
Amon Amarth - Valhall Awaits Me
A Dream Theater song that will really push you is "Metropolis Part 1 - The Miracle and the Sleeper". It's from their second album "Images and Words".
Must be one of the best metal outros ever recorded, so fckn awesome
Great video Drew!
Gimme some SHUGGAH baby
Pravus is a continous slap in the face, Lethargica is like an early Break Those Bones. Cool to see someone digging this band in general though
Edit: 7:20 "Im fookin dizzy after that" LOL
Meshuggah Clockworks Drum playthrough!!!
This is the REACTION that i was waiting with Meshuggah, :_)
If you like prog rock you definitely should hear King Crimson if you haven't yet. They're a Meshuggah's big influence, and many other giant bands like Tool.
Starless or Red are some good examples. Starless is for me the best song ever composed.
STARLESS is effing awesome but wouldn't you agree that 21st CENTURY SCHIZOID MAN is the perfect gateway drug? ;)
Problem is King Crimson is very aggressive with copyright strikes.
@@VagueLuminary they uploaded their discography on 1st April (for really) and they are re-uploading it these days
Aye??? King Crimson sings on a ProBot song! Don’t remember which one but defo does!
Btw you should check out the evoke pronto album, written by Dave Grohl, very hard rock 🤘🏻
Fraktured moment
You really should have done the live version.
10000%
Catch 33 - I you want to be hypnotized, do the whole album from start to finish. If thats to long, do "In Death is Life" and "In Death is Death" back to back. You wont regret it.
I watched this song turn your whole face red. Meshuggah has that effect on people.
Please do Rational Gaze!!
Now everyone in the comments understands why we recommended it so highly!
I personally believe these guys love Jazz. Bebop, etc. The guitar solos sound like tenor sax bebop (put through their prism)
Fredrik (lead guitarist and founder along with jens) is heavily influenced by allan holdsworth. HEAVILY INFLUENCED
grats on 100k broski you deserve it!
❤️🤘🏼
Man I LOVE these Meshuggah reactions! 🤘
I appreciate you taking us on this Meshuggah journey with you.....I hope and can't wait for you to get to Do Not Look Down. I feel like either that or Behind The Sun might end up being your favorite track based off of your previous reactions.
Saw them live one time and oh my god dude. I just wanna punch something to the beat of the drums. They’re so god damn heavy.
I can’t believe nobody is requesting Nebulous!! That and Lethargica are the two heaviest Meshuggah songs. You have to do the Re-Issued version of Nebulous. I’ll link it: ua-cam.com/video/B6IXH_KUwkA/v-deo.html
Glad u finally got into their music. I’ve seen them live at vicar st back in January 2017 . Unbelievably tight and heavy
Drew you would absolute loooove VOLA. They have the heaviness of Meshuggah mixed with amazing melodies. Check out their song Smartfriend. 100% guarantee you'll fuckin love it.
YES! 🤘🏻🤘🏻 Love this song! I recommend that you check out some live videos as well, they have many that are superb (quality) I think you can find the ones from their live dvd’s. Looking forward to the next one! 🤙🏻
Hey, 100k subs. Congrats! 😊
I love the polyrhythms. You can still feel it in 4/4 but there is a lot more going on there
it's hilarious to hear you just say "I can't" periodically 🤣
Obzen was their peak and best album period... yet I love all their albums equally. but yes. every track on the Obzen album🔥 from combustion🔥🔥 to this one 🔥🔥🔥
..you should review them all!!!!🤘🏻
My favourite Meshuggah song!
I got addicted to heavy bad. I started with listening to metalcore and deathcore at the gym, but now I tend to like darker, avant-garde stuff. My fav are death (Ulcerate, Portal, Horrendous...), black (Blut Aus Nord, Imperial Triumphant, Xasthur...), and doom metal (SunnO))), Bell Witch, Mizmor...).
Great video! You mentioned going back to square one on tracking the rhythm. It's one of the things I love about Meshuggah. When that regular 4-4 signal gets taken away, it feels like you've just hit a jump in a car, wondering when you're going to come back down again... And even better than that, you start to figure out how to continue the time signature anyway, and see how it intersects with the other things that're going on. Cheers
You need to react to Lippincott by Animals as Leaders. The thump in that song is incredible, and it has my favourite riff. As far as Meshuggah, you need to just listen to Obzen front to back at some point. Masterpiece!!
Ahhhhhh Behind the Sun by Meshuggah. Ima keep sayin it
That section in the middle is the grooviest thing I've ever heard.
the reason this song can be a little bit harder to keep up with rhythmically is because it's technically in 12/8 time signature, not 4/4. they're sort of the same thing, but this is felt in triplets (i.e. 123-123-123-123) and not straight quarter notes (i.e. 1&2&3&4&).
edit: now that i think about it, that's why this song sounds similar to reptile - they're both in that triplet feel 12/8
No bro this is 4/4 in a triplet subdivision. If you want a song thats actually in 12/8 listen to The Demons Name Is Survellience
@@im_in_immense_pain the guitar part is in 12/8, which is a triplet feel of 4/4. like i said above, it’s hard to feel the groove in parts because of the polyrhythm.
COMBUSTION!
Meshuggah - Born in disonannce
Neurotica
maybe start thinking about listening to the Dillinger Escape Plan,, you probably won't like it at first but if you keep going back to it, you'll be obsessed! (songs: 43% burnt, crossburner, farewell mona lisa)

I'm really fucking beginning to enjoy your channel man, i've been watching a lot lately:D Cheers from Norway! A great Norwegian band you definitely should check out is Kvelertak (which means Chokehold in norwegian) , they're like a mix of 70s rock and black metal. They might not fit your ongoing vibe right now, but I think it's good suggestion :) Some songs are Blodtørst, Bruane Brenn, Crack of Doom with Troy Sanders from Mastodon and Mjød. Idk just had to get it out there, keep up the good work!
Thank you man! Will look into them🤘🏼🤘🏼
This song is the heaviest bitchslap I ever got
I'll Say it again!!
You need to enter Catch 33 Realm. A album that is practically one 47 minute song divide into 13 tracks.
The popular path of the album : Mind's Mirror/In Death is Life/In Death is death
Less popular but BRUTAL path of the album : Shed/Personae non Gratae/Deshumanization/Sum
you know that buzz you get when you hit your head too hard... thats what Meshuggah sounds like
Check Monuments - Atlas, at least 1 or 2 people here have probably heard about them.🔥🔥
The best way I've found to get the timing for meshuggah is to count 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 (4/4 timing) in your head and BOOM! Perfectly in sync to the snare of the drums and works across most of meshuggahs discography 🥁😁👻😎
at 9:50 it was a groove of ones ,twos and then ones, threes . Hope ukwim
I will keep spamming Uneven Structure until they get a reaction
