If true, a 50% take rate for manual in the first bank of orders is impressive.
It is, but there is almost no competition for this type of car with a manual transmission. .... It is now on my radar for sure, as I have never owned an automatic.
Don't forget about Cadillac's long term track record for automatic transmissions. Not the best.
Yeah but that doesn't mean that in the long term they will seel 50% of manual cars.
I guess that the people who preordered the car before it is on sale in the dealers network are real enthusiasts. These enthusiasts are most likely to want the manual than the larger group of people that will buy the cars later.

This is just amazing. As a German growing up loving the first 4 generations BMW M5s with manual and the early Audi S4, S2 and S6, it`s just heart warming seeing this car. Since "our brands" almost only built automatic gear boxes right now. Besides the BMW M2, there is no real German sports sedan or coupe anymore..
The M3 and M4 is available in a manual transmission.
I thought the new M3 only came with stick, unless you got the competition pack?

Isn't it much easier to reach European emissions standards with dual-clutch auto transmissions rather than manuals?

I think the Acura NSX and Lotus Emira are about the only other companies offering a manual. And those are sports cars.

@@asj12 You are right, I guess I was confusing the see through manual transmission gearbox of the Lotus Emira, attributing a gearbox to the NSX also, although when I read the reviews I was aware of that difference.

@@WarriorsPhoto I'm not sure of whom you're asking that, but I am driving a 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio--I traded in 2017 Cadillac CTS-V, which had body fit and finish and torque converter issues. Since the mid-1960s when I started driving, I always had a manual transmission, until, after a 13 year period from the late 1980s to about 2001 when I didn't have a car, I started with automatics, at first for convenience and cost, and then scarcity Plus the top automatics now do a better job than manual and most of the sports sedans and sports car automatics have paddle shifters you can simulate manual with. With my Quadrifoglio you can actually simulate manual with either the shift lever or the paddles--I think the paddles are easier. Of course is no clutch action with your foot.
I live in England and am blown away by this car . I want one because its so cool with all that power,amazing interior,manual gearbox and it's not German .I do think that this car is the end of an era

I had never seen this car, and went to the Watkins glen race this year, saw it there on display.
I’m like, 670 hp V8, with a stick. American made. Look at that upholstery.
If I was a 50 year old executive, I’d look no further. It is unbelievable. Stunning.

Great Car ! i own a V3 , but want the manual before it goes extinct . Yet the CT5 exterior design still doesn't look as good or aggressive as CTS-V IMO🤔 . The Manual is a MUST now , but will need to wait see what the Z06 will be offering next month ( or even the upcoming ZR1/Zora ) 😉

this time is like 1972, when the customer get rubbed by the industrial highest ranks, that would make the automibile to junk.... this dayys you´ll see ev on ev. and that all are a big lie. i´, from germany and i can tell you about really good autos the last 2 decadest. but before it was made in usa by maerican auto manuf. or even also fisher body. but then they know what they do, and in 1972 and introducing lies like "Energie cricis" they destroyed the whole us autoindustrie. and for me as an fan of the us auto industrie back than, however i´m 35 i whish to get back these dayes and i know there is hope because the history is the future!"

I feel like they said "let's make it perfect this last time" they are certainly creating the pinnacle of V8s here and putting everything it needs to handle well, brake etc...all with a manula transmission. What people have been ask for for years
Tony Roma is very soft-spoken in a Mr. Rogers kind of way. He definitely is not a high-powered (cocaine fuelled?) marketing guy. He has all the answers, and all the answers are marvellous.

Cadillac was a rolls Royce competitor in the 40s. In the 80s and 90s they were trash.

I made the dash for this car, all the metal under the panels and down to the foot tubs are all one piece. Very cool to see the final product as I only worked for a supplier for GM.
Having a manual option shows GM still has a soul. And is making cars with some of that 👍🏻 hope it carries over to the new era.
I just put a deposit down on one of these with a manual transmission! Is it slower than the E63 or the M5? Absolutely it is. Do I care? Absolutely not. Because no one else is going to sell me a car with a manual trans other than the standard M3. The fact that my fully specced car came in at $116k vs $135-140k for the Germans certainly helps too. I just wished it looked a little more like the CT4V BLACKWING. At any rate, THANK YOU CADILLAC and THANK YOU GM! I am going to park my CT5V BLACKWING right next to my 2019 ZR1 7MT and get ready to talk about the ICE glory days come 2045.
It took me far 2 longer to figure out that acronym. Yep.. get em while u can.. this year's 911 is likely the last year without a battery. If so i would waiger that no amount of milage would make it depreciate. Its a matter of time until they're worth thier weight in precious metals.

As a Cadillac crazy "collector," I have an 84 Sedan Deville and an 85 Eldorado. They were constructed for the times. Easy to drive and so comfortable. But, Cadillac has always been a performance brand. A 500 CI engine was always more than they needed. I love the new Caddy's. They are the odd duck but are so sweet.
The crackle of the exhaust in the canyon drive is awesome.

50% manual take rate is great. My last car was a used V-wagon. The manuals were so rare, I couldn’t afford one. 4-5 year old manuals were selling for original sticker or more.

Big thanks Cadillac for continuing to offer three pedal V-series sedans with big power. It's too bad that FCA won't offer a manual Charger Hellcat. It's become so much about marketing decisions & shift times, that these companies have forgotten about the person who just wants a manual because of the fun factor and emotional experience. That's all.

@@hent1438 It's emissions. The Hellcat as-is barely meets Federal emissions laws (Tier 3 Bin 160, the worst possible class), it's likely a manual wouldn't make it at all.

I think it's funny that Cadillac wants people to forget about their past and just about every reviewer can't stop talking about it even though they haven't made a "luxury" car in quite a while. I love these new caddy's, they look beautiful and actually compete against the world.
Every vehicle manufacturer has made an ugly car or 2 or more and ALL have had recalls. Audi was notorious for their poor quality in the late 70s. We had a recall on one of our Mercedes-Benz suvs, brake booster seal. For the most part I say buy whatever tickles your fancy. I will say I'm warming up to Cadillac. The Escalade ESV V makes my panties moist.
I watched this right after watching the alpha Romeo vid. I love the difference. You can tell that this guy from Cadillac cares about a fun driver oriented car and is so happy to be there. It shows in the difference of product. I love that they kept the manual and added new things like the no lift shift

The USA now has a fine high performance sports sedan and a serious mid-engine Corvette- that you can get serviced nearly anywhere in America. Good job!
And the fastest production car under 2 million, the Tesla Plaid. Plaid is also the MOST American car. Made in America baby and nothing comes close. Baring accidents you will never need to service a Tesla other than tires -- you won't even wear out your brake because of regen. And it continues to improve even after you buy it with real over the air updates.

As a 75 Y/O, 2nd generation Detroit-born motorhead, I never thought I'd lust after a Cadillac. As much as I feel that we need to save our planet, electric and even hybrids, while nearly front-of-the performance pack, have a long ways to go before they'll win me over in terms of reliability.
Even though for 4 years, I worked on the assembly line building Hydramatic 400s I have NEVER liked any automatic. I never liked the way they drive and have had AT failures of them from ALL of the Big 3.
Manuals? Yeah, I have worn out some and have had to replace a clutch or 2, but could always perform transplants on my driveway. ATs? Good luck finding somebody who can do that for under $1000.00.
Automatics are awesome. The smoothness that a torque converter provides is unmatched by any manual.
Cadillacs should be all about comfort, insulating you from the road.
@@E34Benzin If this is truly the end of gasoline Cadillacs, there is no better sendoff than a supercharged 6.2 liter beast you row your own gears to that crackles every time you let off the accelerator combined with the absolute best handling suspension of any sedan in the world.
Proper performance and road feel will ALWAYS be better than comfort and insulation.

It depends, if you wanna travel long distances it's all about comfort and insulation. Driving a performance car with a loud throaty V8 is great, but also more tiring.
This is the first Cadillac since the 1980's that I would want to buy. Manual transmission is a godsend.
I'm really gonna miss Jay Leno when he stops doing these great videos... Such a living legend! Really humble man who's got all the cool toys.

It boggles the mind that over 50% of CT5-V Blackwing preorders were manuals and GM won't even think about putting one in the C8.
Because the c7 was like 13-15%. But since it’s a global car they should’ve had the option. They also couldn’t put one in because the center tunnel is were all the strength is.
@@raymonds7492 exactly, I don’t understand why this always comes up. They made a decision to use a backbone chassis design for rigidity and one of the sacrifices was the manual transmission.
@@jameswillard1 They also needed the door sills to be low. If they sat you in a bucket maybe there would be a stick but the car is made for a wide demographic so that is impractical.

I absolutely love the sound of this car! I think it might be the only car I could own that I wouldn't feel the urgent need to swap out the exhaust before the temp tags even expired. Beautiful car!

The best car I've owned in my life (I'm 67) has been my '05 Cadillac CTS-V that I put 120,000 miles on and owned for over a decade. After purchasing and riding my '07 Moto Guzzi Griso for a decade I sold the Caddy but I still miss it.

im from EU and honestly i would take this over an M5 or E63, it just looks great especially the front, both agressive and classy, congrats on the car, and that V8 rumble fantastic, 10x better than the fart cans car sound like nowadays

I sold my 11 CTS V just under a year ago and now with this one being the last combustion engine caddy ever it's a must have for me! 6spd and carbon.
WOW...just beautiful! I didn't know that Cadillac made stick shifts...when I first learned to drive , I learned when the shift was on the steering wheel. Lol I miss driving with a clutch and shifting gears. This car makes me get goose bumps. Love ya J..God bless you and your family.

I leased a CT5 last June. A luxury model in Wave Blue arrived at the dealer on June 23 and I took delivery on June 25. A few months later I decided to retire early to concentrate on the new Hi-Level Diner Restaurant (an Amtrak Superliner Diner in Oak Hills, California). I sold the Cadillac to a local GM dealer and made a fair profit. GM built nearly zero of these for about four months last year. My next CT5 lease will be in a few months. Jay, thank you for these videos and as the president of the Toronado & Aurora Chapter of the Oldsmobile Club of America, thank you for the "66 RWD"!

I had a chance to comparison-drive a 2002 CTS-V against an M5, M3 and Mercedes AMG-C. Some marketing company (probably paid by Cadillac) was doing research in who liked which cars best. The CTS-V was a ton of fun, but the M5 was just as fast but had a more-supple ride. The M5 was #1 on my chart, but the CTS-V earned my respect.
I absolutely love that this is a manual transmission. Good choice Cadillac!

Massive respect towards cadillac for building this car for the very few car enthusiasts, even though I'll never be able to own one it's great to know atleast some manufacturers are out there thinking about us car guys. Thank you for this.

I'm kind of surprised with everyone wanting SUV's that they wouldn't make a wagon to try and grab some of that back hatch loving performance crowd... especially with the prices on the old ones... seems a no brainer that there's demand. White Diamond Manual CTS-V Wagon is like a unicorn. Wagons are basically just lowered SUV's or some of these SUV's just lifted cars in reality.
Agree 100%. We need more station wagons and hatchbacks for that matter.
Most people buy SUV's for the commanding view, not the space unfortunately.

Buick made that Regal wagon, which was actually a good looking car, and no one bought it. Might have scared them from making something like that.
Seems like that platform would have been a great way to reintroduce the Buick Grand National.

Buick is scared of doing fun stuff. If it's not a re-badged SUV from another brand, they aren't going to do it. They just exist for China.
The cosmetics would've needed exponential improvement. What we have here is basically an expensive 'Americanized' version of a Honda Accord. Nothing more.

It's funny because Tony Roma isn't just a Cadillac engineer. He's literally the man behind the entire V-Series production. He manages the engineers.
Again thanks Jay for featuring this car and very well done Cadillac! I LOVE this is offered in a manual. This is a future classic for sure. To think this car has more HP than a 2017 Dodge Viper. WOW! BTW jay you hit this nail on the head. THIS is the golden age of muscle cars and once it is gone it is gone. Word to the wise. If you see a car you like that is being sold right now find a way to get it more sooner than later.

Americans are so lucky to have cheap gas and affordable supercars that sound amazing. I live in Europe and my (very average) current car will probably be the last one, it's too expensive to mantain, no parking space in the city, too many bills, taxes and expenses, government working to make your life worse by the year as a car driver , etc. If I was living in the states I would probably get myself a sports car and be able to actually enjoy driving.
We also have no healthcare, no public transit, and traffic so
I disagree from California.
I love sports sedans, I'd lost hope for them when the Chevy SS flopped, but Cadillac is keeping the future of my favorite type of car alive. Thanks to Jay and Cadillac for showing us around. Now to focus on my career so I can afford one eventually.

Now this is a car. This is what you remember old BMWs 5 and 7 series used to be. I love that these companies are.listening to the consumers. Normally a manual in a car this big wouldn't make sense, but with that horsepower it makes all the difference.
Both GM and Ford are doing some truly impressive stuff in the last few years. I could actually see myself buying either having been buying Japanese exclusively since 2000 or so.
Tony's a fantastic representative for GM.

I have a '19 Vette 7 Speed, I will not buy a C8 because a manual trans is not offered, but now I will be Cadillac CT5-V owner. I can hardly wait to get one. Thanks Jay!
