Jay, have you ever sat down and interviewed Donald about how he became an appraiser extraordinaire?? Especially someone from NY that didn't get a family car until he was 13. Might be an interesting story.
I'd be interested too. About his singing career - here's some info: Prior to working in the collector car industry, Donald Osborne was a classically trained baritone opera singer. His solo career culminated in his debut with the Metropolitan Opera in 1985. While, Osborne left the world of professional singing to focus on the world of collector cars he still enjoys singing for others. For years he has sung the Italian National Anthem at the prize giving ceremony of the Mille Miglia at the Teatro Grande in Brescia, Italy. He has also sang the The Star-Spangled Banner at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance. Donald Osborne lives in Southern California and also has a home in Northern Italy. In addition to being passionate about classic cars, Osborne is also passionate about trains, ships, airplanes, music, art and architecture.
Much respect for Mr Osborne, he is a "car guy" with professional assessor chops. Great video with all the various cars shown with their owners and reps. I vicariously enjoy this area of collecting as I'll never have the disposable income to have such expensive toys. Motor on, Jay!
Mr. Bijan (standing next to Bugatti Veyron Bijan Edition: "Can I make a confession? I don't think I have gone faster than sixty (miles per hour) in this car.." Jay: points finger to door "Get out.." LOL
Donald Osborne and Jay together is one of my favorite things about Jay Leno's Garage - the cheeky comraderie contrasted with Jay's goofy humor and Donald's exceptional comprehensive automotive knowledge makes for an addicting combination- love it!
A neighbor of ours when I was growing up had a Caddy much like the 59 here....pink, fins for days, but Bob's was a drop top. I remember him being in a parade, a queen's ride, and he took us kids home in it. I felt like royalty! Wonder what ever happened to it?????
If a black man is born in Sweden, and he then becomes a naturalized U.S. citizen, then what is he? Swedish-African American? Or is he just Swedish American? What makes us African American? Most of us have never been to Africa, and most of us will never go. To add to that, they say white Americans, are just Americans, not German Americans, or British Americans. It's just not fair to say that we're half Americans.
Fantastic! I watch Jay Leno's Garage on UA-cam, but had never heard of, or seen, these segments with Donald Osborne. What a wonderful personality Mr Osborne has! The rapport between Jay, Donald and guests made this 'Best of...' truly enjoyable to watch. And, just like Antiques Roadshow on PBS, it is fun to hear what the appraisal value is. Please do another compilation of Jay and Donald! Thank you 👍 Here's my appraisal of this video: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Jay to Jeff “Is your wife a virgin?” Lol too funny. And I very much question the “car guy” credentials of someone who buys but does not drive a Viper ACR.
Really enjoy when you and Mr. Osborne get together and talk automobiles. Articulate and knowledgeable, when together your like the Johnny and Ed of Car guys! Way cool! Do it more often please.
I love this show , there's so much appreciation to all things automotive you've displayed and seeing cars , trucks and even motorcycles come and go watching this show and I've also done it more than once . Superb and Donald is the best appraiser I've ever seen and impressed of . Keep on truckin' because this fan will do so ! Thank you
"Is your wife still a virgin?" Exactly Jay. Sorry but when someone buys a car like this and has the restraint not to drive it I can't help but feel they're just not that into that car. They may be into another kind of car maybe they're more into planes or trains but that automobile that they never drive is not it.
Fantastic! I watch Jay Leno's Garage on UA-cam, but had never heard of, or seen, these segments with Donald Osborne. What a wonderful personality Mr Osborne has! Donald's comment regarding the lack of sound on the Tesla Roadster "the music of the car". Resolution: add a high-powered CD, play recording of the F1 McLaren especially the F1 throaty idle sound when you at Tesla charging station.
I love the looks of that car! Someone should pick it up and run with it. Just revamp it so the interior is more spacious and easier to get in and out of...
Okay, you got me, I thought it was a Lotus Elise. Are any non-American cars with some American componentry included?, Vehicles like a single generation of the Cadillac, which was wholly styled and manufactured by an Italian styling house, but shipped & sold in America for GM's Cadillac division? I forget the exact year but early 60s I believe? The comment from Donald "The panel fit, is shockingly, excellent" is amusing in this application as a very expensive first, model Tesla sports car, where the latter relatively cheaper models are notable for very poor standards of build quality. (I.e.typical American build quality) Consistent with a foreign buyer's perspective.
I would love to see a French "FACEL" first produced from 1959, through to the early 1960s era. Identically equipped with a Chrysler Hemi V8, as the Italian styled, Limited Build" Chrysler" specials. Of 1959. And whereas the FACEL, is not a Chrysler built car, It being the engine chosen for use in the FACEL's car companies original build of this unique name brand. Similarly to the early Aston Martins of the early 1960s era, which were British coach built Aston Martin, with the outside engine coming to the same American Big Three supplier of engines. The style of large capacity push-rod operated engines typically not used or available from European vehicle or engine manufacturers, which, which had always tended towards smaller capacity, greater technical sophisticated, DOHC chain or gear driven 4 valves per cylinder with a choice of carburettors or mechanical fuel injection typically and a manual gearbox. (not possible in the market position, where it was a design feature to use the Chrysler designed and featured 2/3 speed automatic engine) Never favoured in the superior performance categories, however highly appropriate in the high-end luxury market segment. I am unclear of the full details of the success or otherwise, of the FACEL model, but it was produced for at least 3~4 years, I have heard?
Donald would absolutely destroy my ‘07 Mercedes E350... I have 215,000 miles and it has survived being flooded in New Orleans, hit a deer in Texas, and been driving by myself and my brother when we first got our licenses... still my baby tho!
I loved all the episodes. If I had one complaint. It would've been with Jeff Dunham's car. He REALLY wanted this car for its performance. But at 454 miles? How does he enjoy it. I mean you probably put more miles on it in your test run that he does in 6 months or a year. I guess that's his right and being on the road doing his act. But come on. The car doesn't get to stretch its legs either.!
Jay I have 2004 Honda s2000 in Berlina black. It has a factory installed hard top. It has less than 14,000 miles on it with original tires! Ask Donald what it is worth! Will it appreciate more inthe future or should I sell it now?
Problem you have is the number of people who grew up idolizing Carroll Shelby is declining by the day so I would wait 20 years, will probably be able to get that Shelby for about $30k in 2041 ...
The only problem with the Peugeot is, Donald did say Brothers with an S. meaning one is going to be strapped to the roof and tucked in the trunk when it rains. I’d love to see Shaquille O’Neill doing a superhero movie where he uses a Corwin Getaway as his Batmobile. Just watching Jay trying to fold into it was funny.
Ford should have built the Shelby Cobra(2004) after the life of the 2005-2006 Ford GT. The $99,000 price tag would have made it even more valuable in the future.
The entire electric vehicle market is soon to be dead ended as a solution to fossil fuel source, and a development of a hydrogen economy, driven by many factors, mostly driven by the need of 18 wheelers in America, and Semi trailers elsewhere, where in Australia for example the transport infrastructure is lacking and is reliably maintained by 8 wagon road trains, with regular fuel stations to service their fuel needs. An Electric Truck of this class would need to recharge every 100KM, which would certainly put a serious crimp into the trucking supply lines, and one easily solved with the introduction of hydrogen stations along the typically much longer routes, which would coincide with the present day liquid fuel infrastructure. With refill times identical to liquid fuel fill up times. The additional minor modifications to the highly developed ICE engines would be running a fuel with a far higher specific power than hydrocarbon based fuel, so an increase in power, economy or both could be expected. As an aside, the noisiest aspect of an electric car are often its tyres, which is a safety hazard for pedestrians potentially.
It seems this gentleman worked hard and made connections to eventually become a reputable appraiser and friend to jay. When you work hard, take account of your mistakes and persevere all things are possible. However, when you start blaming people for your own failings, then you your worst enemy. No matter what colour, creed or religion! People who call other people culture vultures need to look in the mirror because they are leeching off other cultures yet won’t admit to it/or too ignorant and dumb! A case of glass house syndrome!
Love this show. I've noticed while driving Jay usually lifts his head. Maybe to facilitate better visibility? No matter, a true car show hosted by a true enthusiast.
I wonder...does Jay have to sign a temporary insurance clause, in which, he's liable to drive these museum quality automobiles for the show just in case grandma runs a red in her cream colored Avalon?
we had a hearse like that with the big fins. Dad had stopped using it before I was born. But he didn't sell it. He parked it at a branch office under a carport and let it set there. So there it was in the late 60s and early 70s with the big fins. I'm not sure if Dad just couldn't bear to part with it since he was a car guy or just didn't get around to selling it. It was totally over the top as far as those fins were concerned...
Donald Osbourne for President of motor vehicles of the world! Man's got Stylage.
Mr. Osbourne is a class act. Very enjoyable. Enjoy the interaction between Jay and Donald. Keep it up!
You might spell "Osbourne's" name correctly.
My favorite part of the show

Oh look, speaking of gallons per mile, a 1959 Cadillac De Ville..
Donald's rendition of la Marseille was worthy of praise. Perfect accent! Bravo cher Donald!
