- The Chevrolet Corvette C8 and the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing go head-to-head in our first U-Drag™ race. In this drag race video, Ryan ZumMallen heads out to the track and lines up a 2020 C8 Corvette and a 2022 CT5-V Blackwing to see which of these V8s reigns supreme. Will the CT5-V Blackwing have enough horsepower to take down the mighty C8 Corvette? What are the C8 and CT5-V's 0-60 times? Ryan covers all of these questions and more in the first of our four videos in our new series we dubbed "U-Drags." It's the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8 vs. 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing.
What is a U-Drag race?
A U-Drag race consists of both cars heading down the track like a standard drag race, then braking hard, flipping around and then heading back.

Kurt and Reese seem cool. I've seen Kurt before and he's reliable and fun to watch. I respect his opinions. Ryan seemed to not really know what was going on (the end comments being a good example) and he it felt a bit awkward.

LOVE this new format! Great way to see more dynamic properties of a car besides straight-line 0-60 with you adding in braking and cornering.
Here's a good one. CT4-V BlackWing 6mt vs M3 6mt, I bet it's going to be really close.
I like it alot, would love to see the Tesla Plaid vs the Taycan Turbo S go against one another. Just to see if the Tesla could reel the Taycan back in after the braking and cornering segment. I am guessing the Plaid would still take it, but 🤷♂️

Low mileage used Corvette C8s are selling for over $100k at the moment and that's USED! Even though the MSRP was $61 when they first came out. Great fun to watch and excellent production quality!
I agree. Plus it comes with some surprising results added in for good measure. I'm a bit surprised the Cadillac would turn out to be so competitive. This pairing definitely comes down to who happens to be setting behind the wheel. Hope they match the new Z06 against this Caddy once the latest Vette is released to the public.
The testing format was awesome. I wasn’t a fan of the host. Too much ‘show’.
His statements and demeanor didn’t match the authenticity of the tests. 10:40 for example.

A new performance STANDARD for testing. This should have been done decades ago. Excellent.
Yeah because its so easy to find a place to do a 1/4 mile drag race, slow down, and then have 120ft of track width for both cars to turn around at 50mph.

@@thiosemicarbizidebenzoylal2921 there is definitely not thousands lol. Also most small airports won’t be wide enough. Also there are not many defunct military bases, and certainly not many with a runway wide enough for 2 separate cars to do a a 50mph u turn at the same time.
The updated LT4 in the Ct5 is making way way more than the 18 HP improvement claimed. These cars are dyno'ing around 620 - 625 rwhp, which is about 50 more than C7Zs. Absolute monsters.
They're downplaying the numbers like bmw smart on Cadillac
It’s actually more than 620-625 I’ve seen some make like 640 it’s was stock it’s on yt
@@v-_-post if that’s the case then that puts the CT5 V’s LT4 at the same out out of some of the LT5’s. Seen some LT5’s from the Zr1 out 640 to wheels while others put closer to 680-690 to the wheels
GM has been underrating their cars since the 90s with the LS camaro. They claimed 305 crank to keep the vette owners happy but those catfish camaros were dynoing about 290 wheel.

You guys nailed it! That's how racing should be conducted. It shouldn't be just in a straight line.
Well the traditional drag race never goes out of style. But that doesn't mean it has to be the only test of a car's performance.
Traditional drag is better I want to see how fast I can go in a straight line don't care about turning. Don't want to go in a circle .

Great test, including swapping drivers. If it was a straight drag only, it would have been the corvette everytime and we all would think the caddy is slow. Now I'm convinced that new CTS V lives up to the name.
Who'd a thunk Cadillac would be one of the last cars on the planet to have 660hp & a manual transmission!?

I was thinking the same thing. They should have used the automatic CT5VBW and it would have been the clear winner…. By quite a bit I would imagine. That 10spd shifts brutally fast.

Amazing drag concept and nothing else like it out there! This is the type of race that can expose the EV's for their poor brakes and allow the IC cars to make up for their slow take off's around the turn, that would be amazing!

C7 vs C8, C7 GS vs 911, Corvette vs Camaro, Mustang vs Camaro/Corvette
Jeep 392 Wrangler vs. RAM Trucks T-Rex
Mazda MX-5 vs. Toyota 86 (or whatever they're calling the Subaru these days)
Model S Plaid should race against something.
Proper 6 Speed Manual Transmission all day long, and this proves on a road course it's faster, even Top Gear ⚙️
Raced a Porsche with a Manual Transmission and beat the Supra / BMW Z4

Though, Cadillac looses it's valuable more than C8 does. Still would buy any Manual Transmission forever. Even if EV becomes mandatory....they could not produce enough to supplement requirements, or demands if every manufacturer could produce 1,000,000 a year for the next 10 years. I will keep buying Petrol ⛽️, or fixing Petrol ⛽️ cars if possible. Disconnected from the internet and GPS

The real "Last Hurrah" for the CT5 should be a slightly detuned ZR1 engine w/AWD and the 8 speed DCT. Come on GM.. give us your best. If you build it, we will buy! BTW, the new "U" format is great!

Before watching I’ll say that if that Caddy was a 10 spd it would’ve lost but with the manual it’s going to get destroyed.

Now lets see the Z06 in the same setup, it would actually be the perfect test to show the difference
If I brought my 800hp Redeye with .309 gears and nittos 555r2 I’d embarrass both those cars in this u-race. My 0-60 is 3 seconds flat and 100 mph in 6.8 seconds.
That Z06 is going to be something though. But I only paid 64k for my Redeye the Z06 is 100k territory

Fun format. Really close race. The C8 has a nicer, more luxurious interior than the Cadillac. That said I love the manual transmission so much.

U are comparing a car with boost vs a NA car. It will b more amazing if the Cady could have beaten a C8Z.

The real race is the C8Z06 similar HP #S.
Can you guess who'll win?
Don't forget the extra 175 hp provided by a Vette engine in that Caddy. Very few cars will beat a Vette with equal HP, it always takes 150+ to level the field.

This u drag is a really cool idea. Regarding this race specifically, I would have really liked to see them use the automatic CT5VBW to make it a little more fair. 9 times out of 10 the manual car will lose because that factor alone. The 10spd in the BW is brutally fast shifting. I bet the BW would have been a clear winner if it was auto.
Well, "fair" would be the CT5VBW vs. the C8 Z06 as the bhp numbers are more in line. Way more so than the tranny difference.

This is a terrible showing for the C8, the Blackwing is much heavier, manual transmission, long geared, with less traction and it still ran that Corvette down. I’m super impressed with Blackwing models..... heard nothing but glowing reviews about them
