Cadillac CT5V Blackwing | Science Fiction

- We review and dissect all of the extreme details of the 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing with the help of GM Engineers. The marks the last use of the V8 Engine in a Cadillac car. While on paper this looks like an old-school muscle car dinosaur like the Holden Chevy SS, it has so much technology. We discuss the engineering and take it on track and show how this is more than a grown-up Camaro. Others to consider are BMW M5, AMG C63, Lexus LC500, Porsche 911 and, Audi RS6.

Hands down the best opening possible for this car. I couldn't stop laughing
I'mma tie it with the Pacifica
He knocked about 10 years off the life of it
Agree and “even if you drove this like Al Gore you might, might get 20mpg”. Bwhahahahaha 😂🤣😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Fucking brilliant
Man, Jack looked so powerful in that intro. My hetero-stability control definitely had to step in a few times.
This is it, this is literally it. Sedan, luxury, rwd, V8, 600+ hp, 6MT, LSD. The perfect car.
_Yes, this is it!_
eLSD. That’s magical really
@@Sithene its funny in big gt cars i prefer torsens. I think they are much easier to power slide.
yep, a perfect car that nobody will buy
Maybe 1 to 2 years this won't exist... And/or will be illegal
And Mark's interior segment, done calmly while Jack vaporized the rear tires was Priceless!
That's something I could never do! I'd either be laughing or pooing myself!
It's only natural that Cadillac studies the market and releases a wagon variant of the CT5V Blackwing. That would be gnarly af!
All history learned, not going sell well sadly
Won't happen since there isn't a wagon version of the CT5 and there's simply not enough demand to create a one-off
and everyone and their dog knows wagon just won't sell
The CTS wagon, a very cool car, didn't sell. I'd love to see a CT5 wagon just to make that stupid black fake window on the C-pillar go away (and because I like wagons).
@Mark Miller my impression is the regulat wagon, like all regular wagons in the U.S. didn't sell, but the CTS-V wagon was coveted??
My BW is black so I don't really see the c-pillar thing (and I added a BW logo there.) I'm see.o6her cars doing interesting/questionable things with blank or black space around their c-pillars as well...not a fan.
Just when you thought that SG’s 2021 content couldn’t get any better, they surprise you once again! Love the color and the opening! Go Jack!!!
I wish I could afford one to show GM that I appreciate their inclusion of a manual transmission as standard, but I'm years away from affording something like this.
Same here, even with the CT4 V Blackwing
These days fun cars are not made for ordinary people anymore, only for those with 100k of disposable income to throw around ://
@@SiamHossain7 Luckily we have cars in the $30k range with manuals coming out. Sadly they all have 4 cylinders, but they're still enthusiast cars, and still attainable for someone like me if I'm careful with my money for the next few years.
You can buy a Camaro LT1 for under $40k. Alpha platform and 455HP V8
@@mistamaog that's also true!
Mark: "Now let me explain some of the quirks and features..."
Jack: "Me no care! ME DRIVE!"
Funny... I just heard the "me no care " voice...in my head...good ol JACK
This opening scene was absolutely hilarious!!! Watching Jack run up on you as you try to keep a straight face was great!!! 😂😂😂
Hilarious opening! Have no idea what Marc said once Jack started beating his chest. Great info once I stopped laughing.
I haven't driven a GM car since my old Celebrity station wagon, and yet I feel a weird sense of pride for the Cadillac crew for accomplishing the CT4/CT5 Blackwings. Thanks SG for the pair of entertaining and informative videos, and thank you to the Brembo and Cadillac engineers for generously sharing your time and expertise with the SG gang.
So excited! My son is picking up his new CT5V Black Wing next week and has asked the “old Man” to go with him to take delivery! This has been his dream car since it’s introduction and thru hard work and other favorable circumstances he has made his dream come true. I think I am as excited as he is! What a car! GREAT REVIEW MARK AND JACK! I loved Jack saying “more people can drive this and not die!” Hilarious!
Thank you immensely to those at GM/Cadillac and Brembo who took the time to provide the technical information for this video.
What amazes me about the intro, apart from the sheer meme potential, is how INSANELY calm and composed the car is while it's going absolutely balls to the wall sideways for minutes at a time.
Good point! Didn't even notice. What an absolute gem of a car. Praise the engineers.
Thanks for all the contributors to engineering support on this vid! One of the best that SG has put out, and you’re a massive reason why!
A Super Car in Sedan’s clothing. Almost everything is in this thing to give it almost everything on the road. And yet with a manual, and pure rwd, and of course the howl of over 6 liters, makes a car as technically advanced as a Lucid nearly as connected as a Corvette. Its frankly, incredible.
One of the best introductions I've ever seen. laugh my ass off. so pumped to see y'all do a thorough review of this beast of a car
Jack. Part gorilla, part engineer. Another great vid, guys. Always dig the under carriage and technical talk
One of the best duo reviews I’ve seen! You guys are smashing it! “More enjoyable than an E63...” whilst wringing it’s neck round the track. Flippin love it!
I just wish the track wasnt wet so i could of slid it around for you guys.
They weren’t laughing like in the E 63 S review 🤔
@@nate7906 dry track vs wet track. Also the general mood of the day.
looks about a million times better than the fugly e63 too
Grow up, kiddo!
Yes. That opening. I couldn’t stop laughing either! Mark talking seriously about the car while Jack rips off his jackets, pounds his chest, jumps in the car and begins to hammer while Mark is still trying to talk. Classic intro guys
When the engineers make themselves available to inform about a car, it tells you how proud they are of their final product. This car is the last hurrah for V8 performance, and I'm sure that was on the developers' minds when designing the Blackwing. Sure, an EV will smoke this car in a straight line. Once the EV's party trick gets old, you will wish you could blow by somebody with more than the whoosh of wind you created. The sense of satisfaction you get from manual shifting with skill will soon be only available in used cars. Kudos to Cadillac for going out with a bang!
I see where GM is putting their effort.
I could see this selling at auction in 20 years for a fortune.
Probably sooner than that, i imagine by 2030 ice sports cars wont be in production anymore.
@@Heatranoveryou Agreed. EV mandates mean usual depreciation-appreciation curves are out of the window, even without the crazy current market.
I love this car and I dont see it, just because cadillac drops in value tremendously within a few years. Im hoping because I would take one at 40k lol in 4-5years.
@The Geekstar 😆😆 this may hold value due to the fact that its the last hurrah for the v8/gas combustion vehicles.
@The Geekstar yeah I would want one and I'm not a domestic fan. These are nice, I like the ct4 and 5. I can see these being in the 50-60k if not more in 5 years.
Mark's interior dialog done absolutely deadpan while Jack roasts the tires off the Caddy was remarkable! Well done-like the back tires!
I never thought I’d want a Cadillac but this thing is such a beast, and can be equipped with a manual! I love it. Now I just need to fish around in the couch cushions for a spare 90k.
Only thing I don’t like is how the rear side windows bump up to form that sharp point, but that’s pretty minor.
Best Cadillac ever made! Truly the standard of the world 🌍
Guess you never saw any of the models of the 50s.
That intro was epic. Great job as always.
Finally someone knows how to review a car, good job
I had a 2014 CTS V sport with steel disc brakes. I recently sold the car with 76K miles and never had to replace pads or rotors. Brakes were outstanding. Overall quality was great too. I will take a hard look at the Blackwing for next sedan.
and that shmuck up there saying no one will buy them, like he knows
@gerald springs Given first allocation sold out in 3 mins we can just consider that poster highly uninformed..
Been enjoying mine immensely
@MarcoWishart
I'm interested in purchasing a 2019 CTS-V
And replacing everything from the engine, transmission, suspension, exhaust
With all new parts
Would you recommend that i make that purchase?
I fell in love with the CTS-V and don't want anything else, when it comes to a family vehicle
@@christopherhenson5509 why buy such a new one just to take stuff apart?
@@evanc6110
So it will last for a long time
It would not be a daily driver, only maybe a summer car
But i would replace everything, shocks, struts, exhaust, engine, transmission
I like the aesthetics of the CTS-V
So, I’ll be happy to add a “thanks!” to the folks at Cadillac and Brembo for making this video and thorough analysis possible. I doubt you find this level of engagement anywhere else on the Web or in the “ slicks.” Well done, all!
This is one of the great videos you've guys been doing all year! So many good ones. Thank you to everyone for getting together and dump my brain full of american v8 goodness.
Lots I would like to say and ask, but maybe one day I'll see you guys at an event when the world turns to normal.
I want to thank you guys for single handedly saving the world by wearing Patagonia non-stop. Earth saved. Thanks.
288 miles per tank of gas...
Holy crap.
They need a "touring" package or something that comes with a bigger gas tank.
No, 128 miles or less, depending on Autobahn conditions
In ten years of watching UA-cam this is the best video I have seen. Thank you.
What a great breakdown yet again - tons of information to learn about the technical stuff that isn't in any other form of media.
damn i love this color! that intro was incredible. Cadillac should buy the rights to this video it'll sell more than any of their out of touch sales people will
This car makes me frankly envious that Cadillac is not being sold anymore in Europe. A true masterwork of engineering, and even if it runs on Dinosaurs, this car would be worth every dime and penny.
- For us who are not into BMWs or Audis and want a great GT car for long distance hauling in comfort, options are limited in the old world.
100k for a Lexus isn't quite an option, nor a Porsche. Buying a 2013 Tesla that has a borderline ruined Battery Package is neither an option due to the cold weather in the Northern Europe.
- One of my favorite intros of all time, another fantastic job Mark & Jack!
I’ve been waiting for this this car to be reviewed by this channel since it was announced a year ago and you guys did not disappoint. Love this car
I’d like to come back and say I finally bought this car for myself yesterday. It’s an absolute beast. This video is partially responsible for that purchase. I couldn’t be happier. Thank you guys!
Love this car! So awesome to see the alpha sub frame/shearplate parts I helped make on camera!
Love the level of technical details in these CT vehicles.
Thank you SG, and Cadillac and Brembo engineers!
As an engineer who just started his career, I will forever mourn the fact that I'll never drive this or any similar insane car before they're replaced with boring, rolling fridges.... think I can get the new Z though. Fingers crossed
We are planning something big with nissan on z. Stay tuned
That should be much more reliable than any Cadillac.
@@davepaturno4290 my ATS-V has been perfectly reliable. Calm down.
@@davepaturno4290 GM has definitely changed for the better in the last 10 years. They’re pretty reliable vehicles now.
Unless you are loads in debt from student loans, you should have no problem buying this car with an engineers starting salary.
1. Watch Throttle House review
2. Watch Savage Geese review
3. Look for money
4. Realize that I can’t even afford the tire budget for this car. ☹️
Love love love these long form videos! Thanks to the GM folks that helped provide the info packed into this great video! Love it when I need to "hang on" for a video. Set the tone!
Jack's growing like the channel's quality continues to.
Thank you so much to everyone at Cadillac for giving these guys this amazing car and letting them share just what an amazing product you guys have put out. Also this has got to be my favorite intro in the longest time.
I was waiting for this one.
Cadillac will go down in history for this one.
Another quality, technically on point video. Surely a Masterclass to other wannabe’s. Having access to product designers, engineers and other contributors adds to effectiveness of the final product. Not pissing in your pocket we would say down under, but genuinely appreciative.
Thanks Savage Geese and to all who made this video possible. Your passion for cars always comes through and is contagious :)
Awesome video. Huge thanks to SG Tony Roma and the Brembo guys. It's encouraging the cars like this are still available, even for average Joes like me who can't yet afford them. Keepin the GT dream alive. :-)
terrific piece, great car and thank you both for spending extra time making this for us
OutDamnStanding!
You two are Nucking Futs!
Great review as usual.
I am just glad you filmed the under car technical review before vaporizing the tread off the tires.
Thinking of getting this or a Nissan Juke. Both have pros, this review will definitely inform my purchase.
You should check out the Murano cross cabriolet before you make any decision
@@kylekraemer1151 The last cocaine fueled binge courtesy of my employer as an EXECUTIVE I actually bought 3 and sent 1 of those to my ex wife. All that to say, I'm looking for new bold paths, hence the Juke or CT5V.
The Nissan Juke is one of the ugliest cars ever made. It certainly makes a statement about yourself, but it isn't a good one.
@@Stylemaster911 Are you sure that was the last Coke binge?
As an engineer I appreciate all the technical talk you bring to your reviews. truly spectacular.
Silverback Jack!!!!! Yessssss!!!!! And Mark, I don't know how many takes you guys had, but I commend you for keeping a straight face there in the opening. 😀
Jack's primal urges took over there. When the silverback wants something, the silverback gets it.
Ooooohhhhh man, Jack just running up outta nowhere and going full on Gorilla mode and just burning rubber had me laughing for longer than it should have, I must admit 😂😂😂. And then the smooth jazz coming on was just perfect. Great in depth review guys, loved it.
Best intro ever? Yes. And watching it in my SavageGeese T-Shirt, 2021 Edition made it completely bad ass.
The fact that you're completely unbothered talking while Jack drives like a maniac is such a flex for both this car and this channel 😂
Congrats to Cadillac! Well done.
SG is stepping up to a new level. I think this is the best intro you have ever done. The rest of the video is well done and informative as well. Thank you SG for doing this.
OMG when Jack started beating his chest and running 🏎️🏃🏻 😂😂
Easily my favorite Cadillac ever made. I thought the last CTS-V was badass, this blows it away
Great video. Might I just add, I love that they actually offer these cars in some exciting colors.
Thank You Gentlemen for another awesome review!! 👍🏻👍🏻 I wish you both a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!
Thank you to the engineers of Cadillac, GM, and Brembo - these guys did the best review of this car on UA-cam by far.
What a car.
Wow.
And what a video...geese, well done and thank you. Learned a lot.
This is probably the single best car review channel on youtube.
Hell yes! Is this Jack’s final form ? I think not! Hahaha great job guys! Much quality! Great info!
That intro was amazing. Keep being humorously creative, Geese. 👍🏼
Patagonia laiden silverback jack is the spirit animal of the CT5V
HOW DID MARK KEEP A STRAIGHT FACE. Just wow guys. As an engineer and top gear fan, this is officially the perfect car channel. Real information beyond just the stats in press release packets, real driving, real and consistent criticisms and honesty. Keep it up
Absolutely brilliant video! Amazing car!
Thank you both for your hard work on this and the 4, as well as all the others. Looking forward to seeing what you bring in the upcoming year.
(Being the fat kid that I am, I loved the donuts!)
Awesome video! Thanks for the in-depth journey and the vicarious joy of watching you slay tires in this beast!!
I just love and appreciate how much you get into details with these cars.
Awesome video ! As someone who always loved 4 door V8 manual sedans, this car is freaking awesome ! And thank you so much showing the insane details underneath the car.
side question - in the CT5 V blackwing with steel brakes, is it still flat faced like the CT4 V or does it come with drills ?
I'd take this over any other V8 sedan or coupe and any German car by miles.
Old top gear is the goat, grand tour sucks and now SG owns this category. Another stellar production gentleman.
You guys make such amazingly interesting and fun car reviews. Never ever a dull moment. Keep up the great work and all the best to your team in 2022.
Great car - Great video with a great deal of research and preparation -The question remains how many units will they sell - Can they sell enough to make a profit or is this a loss leader strategy from GM. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you both for hours of content through which I learned so much about engineering and the business of making and selling cars. Hope you made a ton of money as you deserve every penny.
After clicking Subscribe to Savage Geese, I re-discovered my self-esteem and stopped sobbing during couples counseling.
Best car vid I've seen this year. Merry Christmas, guys. Hell of a car, hell of a video. Great job.
I'm an M car fan but I would take the Blackwing over a current M5. Looks amazing and is an absolute weapon!
It's amazing to think a conglomerate like GM has the ability to make something like this. This is like an evolution of the Chevy SS with ZL1 1LE sprinkled all over it. This will be looked back upon as a rare american vehicle treasure in the next 20 years. Very heavily considering one now. Wonderful video as always Mr. Geese & Mr. Singapore.
Commenting in hopes that the almighty algorithm decides the average smooth brain user on UA-cam needs to see this work of art
Thank you to all involved in this fantastic video. I know so many people out there like the typical "ITS SO FAST WATCH THIS SLIDE" and then it's over type of video, and it is great for clicks & views. But please keep making these beautiful in-depth videos. I think that there are many loyal subscribers who come to this channel simply because your reviews are not like the rest. Thank you for the great work. Happy Holidays!
man they should have put a holden badge on this and sold it in australia, the bogans would have loved it
This had me laughing out loud for real. Awesome.
Such an awesome car.
Reminds me of the type of stuff HSV used to make, except more modern and well put together.
Excellent video! Really enjoyed it! Thank you Cadillac and Brembo for the technical support, we appreciate it!
I still continue to be baffled how GM can produce something like this, the C8 and other pretty great performance cars, then make piles like the cruze, malibu, equinox and T R A X
Great engineers, but maniacal "bean counters."
Not to mention the “Blazer”…
@@jordansomeone2555 I really don’t think the blazer is as bad as everyone makes it seem. It’s just a bad name and overpriced
@@Suction_ That is true, just an awful use of the name though
I had 2nd generation CTS-V with 6 speed manual.
It was a fantastic car!
My question--how does the CT5-V Blackwing compare to that experience?
When I want a no BS in-depth review of a car you guys are the best! Keep up the great work
Thank you for this great vid. I still don't understand how you are not over 2 million subs. I shill your channel so hard. I guess it's niche unlike some other plain jane channels. Anyway thank you happy holidays.
Because we don't look like male models, have no charisma or sexy accents. So Jack is trying to make up for it by only lifting weights with one arm.
@@savagegeese the Throttle House guys must have their ears ringing! Both SG and TH are great! Last year I bought my dream car, a 2021 Camaro 2SS 6spd manual, this BlackWing is a dream on a whole different level…
Throttle House is not in the same time zone as these guys. TH is chicken feed. This is the real deal.
One of my neighbor have one in dark blue. Looks super great and it is also rare and unique. The only problem with this car is that the people who are shopping for these types of cars will most likely pick other options at that price point (mercedes, audi, bmw, lexus, etc.). Great on papers, but not so in the real world
it's their loss. dealers will push people away with huge markups too
@@VS666 this. Dealers are marking up literally everything now
thanks to all the engineers for their input, this was an excellent and very informative video!
Awesome review. One of my favorite channels. Keep up the great work.
Awesome review, as always!! AND...what's wrong with a raw vehicle that 'most people will stuff'?? It seems that the 'bandwidth' is now so wide that 'driver skill' is irrelevant to driving a fast car well that only $$s/high tech is required...sad.
As an italian, I always was (still am) an european cars *snob* (I drive an E Class), but in the last 5 years or so the americans are knocking it out of the park!! Like no shit, there are so many american models I would choose over the german counterparts that I lost count!
Too bad the stupid tax schemes in EU and the very low or non-existent availability, makes it impossibile to buy or run these cars!
My hat off to all the engineers at Corvette and GM
At the end of the day every country offers something unique to the market. America gives accessibility with affordable cars and a big aftermarket supported by manufacturers. I just wish this looked more masculine and aggressive like it’s predecessor.
@@raymonds7492 Second Gen is best visually imo. My uncle has a non V wagon and it's soo cool. Loved that hard edged "Science and Technology" design.
Badass car. Even more badass review. Love you guys keep it up! Big fan from Canada
best intro in human history
1. Jack is my favorite gorilla
2. Do you guys have to replace the tires or does GM say you get one pair do what you want?
The goal was to one up the is500 video but the track was wet. Gm asked me to do big poweslides but the track was so wet it didnt work out. When they shipped us the car it came with a extra set of rear wheels so we could obliterate them. The only part of the track that dried out was the skidpad so this was a last minute oh well decision.
