Thank you for sharing the Keith Canteen kit in the Boundless Voyage mess kit. I have been wondering about that for months if not years. I have been using the Russian VDV paratrooper 3piece mess kit for years and wanted to upgrade from the aluminium.
I like the shape of the Keith canteen shape but ended up buying the new (to me) Boundless Voyage 3 piece nesting canteen (A Blockier shape)

Update: Got the Boundless Voyage Titanium Canteen Cooking Set with the extra nesting 1.1L drinking canteen. I suspect that if you added the Canteen Mess Kit upside down it would nest perfectly as the bottom piece does.. The canteen is a loose fit so when you pull the canteen ut of the pouch the pot/cup doesn't come with it. Going to make a small paracord retention strap so it comes with it

With the titanium I went for the round pots for the simple fact I've used canteen cups and mess kits since I was a kid, thought I'd try something slightly different. The titanium canteen cup is tempting though, I like my Nalgene Oasis canteens too and it makes a nice compact kit.

  • @misolgit69

had another thought you can use this like a smaller version of the Swedish/East/West German mess kits i.e. boiling water in the larger mug wether you are preparing noodles or rice or pasta, or just boiling up for a brew, you sit the small mug in the top of the large one then anything you want to heat through like small can of meat etc place it in small mug and the heat from your water will do it for you.
also if anyone is interested Boundless Voyage have broight out another variation ....it contains
    1) a GI style size titanium canteen cup
    2) a lid for the cup
    3) a titanium canteen cup stand/cooker and someone has thought about this unlike the aluminium versions which have no lip and are usually a tight enough fit to jam on the cup after heating this titanium version has a turned over lip to support the cup, hope this helps, sorry for being a bit long winded atb Bill

So when backpacking, do You like to clip your canteen kit to your backpack or wear on a belt?
I did purchase that Helikon-Tex Essential kit bag for reason its side pouches. Besides fitting my Heavy Cover TI canteen kit...
I've not yet loaded down for a few mile hike up at gramp's old digs/farm with river running through. It was mostly Jeep or lifted golf car aided. Riding I miss some tinder/fatwood op. to try ideas I'm sure..even take the long way to fish, blah blah blah.

With the Essential Kit Bag I shoulder carry it when I am on a short day hikes and not carrying a lot of gear. If I am out for a full day and carrying a larger backpack, I will strap or clip it to the back of the pack or set it inside the pack on the top. I already have a small canteen carry option on the waist belt of my pack.

Good vid. Just found you and sub'd. You kind of passed over the Pathfinder stove...which I love... will it nest in any way with the boundless set and PF canteen? I love the 39oz. capacity and the widest mouth around. And a question. I love military packs but finding them now to be too heavy. Looking for a med. price pack having both waterbottle side pockets and molle strips....4 wide. Don't care for multiple pockets. One big deep cavity would work. With molle 30 - 40 ltrs... w/limited molle up to 40 ltrs. Thanks.

    • @BarnYardOutdoors
      @BarnYardOutdoors  3 роки тому

Unfortunately the Pathfinder canteen stove will not fit on the outside of these canteen cups and if you try to nest them on top (like you can with the Kieth Titanium Canteen or Nalgene Oasis) it will not fit either since the Pathfinder Canteen has a wider top. I do love the Pathfinder Canteen size as well, but unfortunately there isn’t really any standardization of canteen sizes. I just got the Boundless Voyage titanium canteen pot with stove set so stay tuned for a video looking at what it has to offer and what canteens work with it.

I don't know what med. price is really, but these guys seem to have some nice gear. www.helikon-tex.com/en_usd/bags-packs/backpacks.html
I got their Essentials canteen kit bag for my Keith Titanium canteen because cheaper than the ...Mother's kit bag was it?, and wanted a top to flap over my canteen. I'm happy with it, and fairly rugged/built well(Cordura)
Keith canteen main area with two side pouches, one in front under flap, etc.
It took a bit to get over seas to Chicago area, but came fine and dandy condition.

My bad, I read through comments before watching the vid. (I wrote of the same canteen kit bag shown in vid)
There's vids around for that kit bag ~ Molle on the backside, metal drain hole in bottom..molle set up can even be utilized to slide through a camp axe/hatchet with use of blade hood.
As said it's put together well, and they seem they want to remain viable in a very competitive market...then again I've not really the experience some may have. hmm, my backpack is a 20 year old LL Bean jobbie my sis bought me.
      tips me hat ~

I'm looking for a grill. The model half grill and half disch. (Boundless vovage - mapleoutdoor)
So.. what is the grade of this titanium?
It is a good quality? Do you know the real composition of this titanium?
    Thank u

    • @BarnYardOutdoors
      @BarnYardOutdoors  3 роки тому

I not 100 percent sure what the grade of the titanium is, but from what I have seen based on some internet research is that Boundless Voyage products are 99.8% titanium. The cook set stove is pretty thin (about 2 millimeters) so there is some flex in the product. I would suspect with the griddle / grill combo you might be limited on the weight of the pot and food you place on it but it should be fine for single meals or small groups items.
I hope this helps with your decision and thanks for the comment.

Just no chance mate, no chance at all, I can tell just by looking at it. I had to use one of them for 5 years in a job when I was younger so I'm very very familiar with it. It would need to be bigger than the Osprey Cup to fit the canteen in and the Osprey Cup is humungous. Btw BCB don't make them, they're made by Osprey.

    • @BarnYardOutdoors

Just tested this out and the Boundless Voyage will partially fit on the top. It is an extremely snug fit. A better solution is to put the Boundless Voyage on the bottom of the Kieth Canteen and put the Kieth Cup on top. It fits better and makes a more compact setup. Great question.

Not that I am aware of. I believe the color difference is simply due to a difference in the titanium quality. Which is pretty good, same type as Toaks brand uses I believe. They are similar in color to Toaks and Keith titanium products.

I own a set and my impression is it's indeed a coating layer around them. It rubs off on some contact spots between cup and pot. And it worries me what it consist of, it it does harm? Glad to hear any infos on it in case someone has them. The few points of criticism I have about the cooking set are a) the (apparent) coating, b) some (few) sharp edged spots where your mouth goes, c) when used in combination with a drinking bottle, the lid is problematic to store in most standard field bottle carrier bags, as it is too broad to sink to the very bottom of the bag.

I just don't get why you all like those cups. They may be ok to put a packet in but you can do that with most pots. Those cups are awful to drink from, like drinking from an old pan, and the large surface area mean the contents go cold quicker. Plus they are bulky ! I can only assume its for nostalgic reasons.

Am i the only one who HATE that whoever makes titanium cookpots always have that indentation in the bottom? I know it is supposed to help with fuel efficiency, but how am i supposed to stir efficiently in the bottom with such a design? I never really tried to cook anything but water in such pots yet, but to me it seems like i my best bet for making freeze dried food is to just heat it up and let it sit and soak in a cozy, and hope its still warm when its finished soaking. There are some good choices for food where this will not be a problem, but i really dont like being limited in that way, and saving a tiny amount of fuel doesnt even begin to make up for this sacrifice.
