    It always is good to use a windscreen, when you use a stove outdoors. Carry a cutout of a one-time use aluminum pan, wrap it around the setup. Even if there is no wind, it traps the heat, and help the stove perform at max efficiency.

    Good video! I agree in that I have seen nothing but bad reviews of this alcohol burner! I too own/run the BV Ti Stove and Cup set with a Nalgene Oasis canteen however I am not a fan of alcohol burners. Keep up the good work! It is truly appreciated!!!

    Yes! Another stove from the Stove whisperer! I think the only other person I've seen use that kind of canteen kit was Luke with the Outdoor gear review! Ya I'm curious to see if your other stoves will get that much water to a boil. Maybe since they prime faster they'll get a boil? Wind has been crazy over here too recently! I almost prefer rain to wind.... almost!

      Oh yea I’m rolling out a whole load of stove videos in editing right now and I promise you there’s one stove that went above and beyond getting 600ml to a boil. I’m sure this stove would have got 400ml to a boil no problem, but with it being in the low 40’s high 30s I figured it be the best time to test an alcohol stoves real-time performance. Thanks for watching my friend!

    Thanks for the tip with the stove. I purchased one a month ago and it takes really long to get fired up. Going to use the cotton ball trick now.

    That’s a WW2 replica canteen right? Try using a food safe O-ring to stop leakage. 🍻

      @iPac9mm you're right hence I've since upgraded to the complete titanium kit but for sentimental reasons I kept the old SS canteen and gave it to my oldest son to to keep it in the fam with a new cap lol

    Cool, been looking at that cup and stove/windscreen as a possible upgrade, I use a nalgene oasis canteen and a surplus stainless canteen cup…and I love it, been a solid setup.
    Not sure if I want to upgrade the canteen itsself or not really, I can’t boil in it, but otherwise it’s been perfect.
    I’ve been tempted by the ti canteen kits like the heavy cover kit, and I can land then here for 250 cad roughly…but geez…thats a LOT of steak n bacon eh?
    😄

      Oh yea I suggest going this route if you’re going Ti because the oasis nests in this perfectly. Also, this comes with a lid for your boiling needs. It’s been a solid piece of gear for me. Cheers my friend and thanks for watching! 🙏

    Raise the burner an inch with dirt sticks rock or whatever will shorten that burn time and with the stand there’s no reason to wait for a bloom. Have fun stay safe.

    I have the canteen cup and stove...
    I use the stove upside down, I place my evernew alcohol stove inside with a cross stand. So the cup slides down inside and sits on the cross stand. The stove used as a windscreen causes thermal runaway (the heat builds up and boils the alcohol) using 30ml of Heet I can boil two cups of water in less than 5 minutes.

    • @BackpackDad

      Me too..trangia is the GOAT of alcohol stoves.

  • @oxxnarrdflame8865

    Those type of stove/pot stands are designed for wood fires and don’t work well for alcohol burners. I tried a Pathfinder stove with a trangia and had miserable results. I found you need a gap between the stove and your pot otherwise the heat move out and away from your pot.
    I flipped my Pathfinder over and used tent stakes to hold my pot and it worked fine. You could rotate your pot 90° on the stove and see better results.
    Other than that nice kit👍 😊

      @BackpackDad  2 роки тому

      Thanks yea I’ve been tinkering with it and I prefer to use the Trangia with it because it worked in 12 degrees Fahrenheit which is the coldest it got this winter in Nj. I’m trying to master a good setup for my Alaskan elk hunt.

    One more comment 😊 what did you use for fuel. I know Heat and denatured alcohol fires frighteningly fast. Rubbing alcohol has water in it and can be temperamental.

    • @BackpackDad
      @BackpackDad  2 роки тому

      I used DNA. It was my fault for not positioning the burner higher. I’ve since corrected my mistake and installed more wick in the ti stove and it’s works perfectly

    If you think it will make it easier to use and or make it balance better you can gently tweak the butterfly handles off without damaging them

    • @BackpackDad
      @BackpackDad  2 роки тому +1

      Lol I did mess around with that. The balance was not bad either way because of the way the cup nests on the wind blocker
