Joe Pera Stand-Up 03/28/17 | CONAN on TBS
/ teamcoco
His personal life on wikipedia literally only says that he’s a massive fan of the buffalo bills.
A true enigmatic hero
And that he's from Buffalo New York where he claims to be "Familiar with the trees up there"
It also talks about comedy don’t lie
WilliamAhlert Joe Pera’s alter ego is a Bills Mafia Member
One other thing about him is that he really knows his way around a bean arch.
It also says he’s born in 1988 or 1989 lmao. Listed age is 31/32
this dude is like an anti-eric andre
tony wortman genius description
Salad finger like
That’s an excellent take
interesting how they are both my favorote person then
They are both on adult swim
It’s like all the spirits of all the grandpas in the Midwest combined and possessed the captain of a South Dakota high school basketball team.
Watch "Being John Malkovich" and see the horror of this concept.
That is quite the imagination, I am throughly impressed
you won
He's only 38
One of the best comments ever!!!!
I saw an article calling him "The Cozy Sweater of Comedy" nothing has been more fitting
Dalton Moen The new Bill Cosby? I hope he chooses a different path... lol
More fitting.... ha😂
I see what you did there XD
Nice pun!
Swomedy sweater comedy
Joe Pera is the youngest-looking 90-year-old tree enthusiast I have ever seen.
molin1 Being enthusiastic about 90 year old trees is a very niche passion.
molin1 Obviously you’ve never heard of Evan Hansen
Carson Partain is that a mOtHeRfUcKiNg Dear Evan Hansen reference?
Mustache Studios No, it’s a reference to 17th century expressionist Evan Hansen who expresses his passion for trees all in his artwork.
Carson Partain good one
The fact people think he's nervous just shows how quality Joe is.
I don't know the guy. I just assumed he has some sort of disability.
@@igano111 Nope, he's just a comedy genius.
It’s an act, right?
@Jeff B this is a comedic gag not autism
It's really hard to pretend to be nervous right
I'm very impressed how he has the audience completely under his control. When he's getting guesses about his kids' height from the audience it could have been very quiet and awkward but Joe's subtle motions and calm demeanor keeps the audience engaged completely. He's so completely different than other comics and is a real breath of fresh air.
How the heck do I do that too?
@@holidayin7962 confidence yo
I agree 100%.
Very intelligent, direct, original and funny!
I love Pera he understands language and the language of comedy.
I think it is due to his background in education.
@@pashadyne I would definitely put Joe Pera in the Emo Phillips brand of comedy. That's a great comparison. Definitely playing different characters, but similar styles. I loved him on Dr. Katz.
Joe Pera taking that piece of paper out of his pocket, slowly walking over to that single audience member, showing it to her, and then putting it away is one of the most memorable pieces of stand up I've ever seen
that's a one-person-of-the-show joke
It's like a quiet version of the idiosyncratic comedy of Andy Kaufman.
@@sg639 yes! How do you do Kaufman inspired comedy without being anything like Kaufman?
Joe Pera
He is somehow safe and comforting but also totally punk
If you enjoyed this, please watch 'Joe Pera Talks You to Sleep'
Thank you so much for directing me there! That was a very soothing video to wind down with.
You must watch all of Joe Pera's videos, like the pancake breakfast critic! I don't know what it is about him, but I just can't get enough of his work!
Louis Bradburn came here from that, can't believe I just discovered this voice
He has a show now
+I eat ass what kind
This setup is genius. He can get as nervous as he wants and no one will notice
*spends 1/3 of his routine goading audience into guessing random numbers.*
Genius.
It's nice to see that comedy is still an option for the elderly
Joseph Holt he is acting
StickMan I don't care if he's acting, it's not that great. He's good at acting like an old man I guess....pretty good stuff? I almost chuckled one time.
P2floyd I think it's genius in every way
My man's only 38. Very good acting.
when joe is in his 30’s
He's the Bob Ross of Comedy
And the Mister Rogers of Stand-Up
@@nightvisiongoggles 😂😂 yeah
he combines Bob Goldthwait and Andy Kaufman
Na Bob Ross is much cooler and laughs a lot.
“how tall do you think my kids are going to be?”
“9’11”
9/11 was a national tragedy.
“Amber is the color of your energy” -9/11
Not cool of that guy but funny as F
@Antifa Cuckeesian defenetely not cool, but defenetely funny
@@theshoes7488 bush did 311
He looks 25 but sounds 70
DrInsanity 139 He’d look 16 if he wasn’t 7 foot tall
Trevor Hagen How tall is he?
6 year old birches
He sounds like Jesse Plemons
guys, he's not nervous it's an act lol good lord
+You Tried It! if you don’t find it funny then why are you still watching
Onizen i've seen him do other characters and bits but I find this one very soothing to listen too. Most Comedians do acts and characters on stage.
I think it is a mixture of act and truth, and that is why his style evolved to be what it is.
I thought he had cerebral palsy or something
It’s ok. Not sure I’d call it genius.
He is just awesome. I have never came across an individual that has the ability to not only make you laugh but calm you, the new show Joe Pera talks with you is just outstanding. If you have not watched it I advise you do so immediately. The man is a genius and will go down in history and I bet my bottom dollar on that. The world needs more individuals like this man and we all can learn something from him.
Does he have Parkinson’s?
UniteAllTribes Are you a dumbass? This "comedian" clearly is no genius. Nothing he did or say was even remotely funny at all. He just tries too hard to act up some persona and people get a kick out of it. That's like someone pretending to be a dog and people calling it "genius". You have to be stupid to think this guy is funny at all.
@@lilena765 humor(like taste in music) is subjective. Joe Pera is to classical music, as Chris Rock is to hip hop. I personally think his show on adult swim is brilliant. That doesnt make me right, or wrong.
Sky High but he is good tho
Sky High comedy is subjective my friend
Joe Pera is the kind of person you find online in a voice chat who is so innocent and instantly become his friend
darkfoxs 1023 he reminds me of Mr. Rogers!
pretty sure you're one of only ten people who do that
You meet random people in voice chats and become their friends instantly? You are weird
What
Joe Pera is one of those "comedian's comedian" who does an amazing job of finding a totally new method and perfect job of staying in character.
Andy Kaufman would have loved him I think
I wonder how he is if you like saw him in public. Would he get into character for you or would he be “normal”. It would be so jarring if he would be out of character
as i understand it, it's autism. he's made a style of comedy designed to work with the soft demeanor and slow delivery he just... has. necessity is the mother of innovation.
That’s the first time I have seen a stand up share a joke with only one audience member. That was genius.
This comedy is too wholesome for me, I cant handle it.
He looks suspiciously fit under his clothes. He's probably ripped.
Is that Flanders energu
hahaha dreamy
Whole milk, oats, and hgh!
Look for the AV club video of Joe in shorts on here from a few years ago; your suspicions confirmed.
Gibbon Erotica Those calves are like tree trunks!
makes a drawing of his future family and shows it to exactly one person lmao
Please tell me someone heard an audience member drop a casual 9/11 joke at 2:14
I heard it, very faint.
And just think he would've only been an inch off.
+Mohammad El Mustafah indeed classic comedy
Mohammad El Mustafah Of course you think it's funny
Irish Daze man I can't wait until my sons 9/11 ft tall so that he can be knocked over of by a hijacked plane
This guy and Nathan from Nathan for You need to do a TV show together where they both still use their respective dry/deadpan delivery but Nathan is still the wacky crazy guy who's schemes get the duo into trouble every week, with Joe as the straight man. But they both still talk the way they do in their acts the whole time.
Brother. Yes.
Brother. Yes. All I can say is yes. Please.
Also yes
Frog and Toad stop motion film starring Joe and Nathan.
That show is how to with John Wilson. It literally has Nathan for you as a producer.
“How tall do you think my sons are gonna be?”
“9’11”
4:40 1 person a show joke, i can respect that
If this whole video was just him playing “higher or lower” with the audience about the height of his future children, that would have been ok with me.
When Joe’s 80 he’ll sound 25
oh my god, I was HOWLING when he started talking about the trees 😂😂
You must find laundry hilarious.
The bit where he whips out the Christmas card and shows it to only one person is so great.
“Their legs will be as long as 6 year old birches, and their arms will be the length of their arms will be as long as 4 year old birches”
How can you not laugh at that 😂😂😂
Easily
@@LoneCapricorn what's life like being dead inside?
@@SuperNuclearUnicorn wouldn't know, tell me though, ive always been curious what life be like when you find watching laundry dry hilarious? Please tell me more about how milquetoast grandpa trapped in the body of 34 year man is funny. I'm sure you must think milk is funny too, because thats what this guy has the personality of.
What's a birch
calista Vicente A tree
Cozy comedy
Mr L. This is exactly what it is, perfectly described thank you
Calmedy
It's really relaxing and comforting to be honest. 😅
2:12 "9/11" That audience member is my hero.
I first thought Jean Claude Van damme is doing stand up now
He was the closest guess
Hi it’s 9/11
Never forget
As Norm Macdonald would say, "ah it reminds me of that tragedy..."
Where is the Joe Pera Talks You to Sleep ep2 ??
We need a whole season. 10 episodes at least.
@@odaselfimprovement agreed. Nice.
He fell asleep
There's always the 10 hour version.
there is another 11 minute video now
this man is so deep in the bit i can’t tell where the character ends and joe begins and the other way around
My favorite detail is that the mic stand isn't tall enough, so he has to stand with an awkward hunch.
Gabriel Rodriguez that’s just how he stands when he does his act. He does it all through his adult swim show
Oh my gosh you’re right! This guy has all the details nailed
He talks me to sleep for 10 hours every night
Summer Bummerr: Same
Summer Bummerr It takes you 10 hours to fall asleep at night? Don’t you just have to wake up then right when you finally do?
I just found that video by accident. Lol.
I want to be on you.
He talked me to sleep last night dude- BEST SLEEP EVER and i went quick
I watch Joe Pera when I need to slow down and not feel overwhelmed
It's like if a cat's purr ended up doing stand-up
All the Midwest grandpas are so proud.
Bro, Joe is a god damn genius. Look at his movements. They're literally identical to those of a senior with deteriorating functions. And he's doing that on cue. Jesus. What a guy.
R.I.P. my heart when he smiled. So unique, cozy, doesn't need to rely on shock, shout or profanity, masterful comedian.
I truly Love this guy!!!! He's a little subtle but seriously funny!
WakeeWakee totally agree.
12 feet that's crazy go down
I was just wondering where Joe Pera has been. Great to see he's still doing his thing
I just stumbled across Joe. I don't even know why I like him. I just do 💚😊 maybe his warmth and sincerity catches people off guard because it feels so unfamiliar these days.
That's it.
Oh my god, hes even wearing the dad shoes, this guy is officially good.
Joe Pera is the Andy Kauffman of our generation. Comedic genius.
Raw Meat Ice Cream intresting you say thay
Definitely not
He's the Bob Ross of Comedy
No not at all completely different flavor and humor Andy is in a league all his own
@@tek5670 yes very much so
I've never wanted to hug an absolute stranger so much.
5:13 him trying to hold back that laugh😂
This guy has an old geezers voice. He's ahead of the game
Crowd work during a TV set. That is unheard of. Nobody else could pull this off like that.
I zone out during his talks, but I look to watch his rosy cheeks move around.
I love Joe Pera, the jewel of Buffalo.
I want to see him break character, I want to hear his real voice kind of, like....without shivering.
That's basically his real voice. His act is him amplifying his own general nature. He obviously knows it's a joke, but he's found something that works for him.
Go to his channel and check out his old sketches before he developed this as his full time character.
Theres never haters for this guy, hes just too good. Hilarious stuff while still being wholesome.
I love Joe Pera, probably my favorite active comedian. Great to see him featured on Conan!
Went to high school with joe, he’s always spoken Like this
This information makes me happy
Makes me happy, too!
So is any of it an act? Or is his comic persona 100 percent him?
When did he graduate??!!!
mangarda 2007 iirc
That first joke was so perfect
I like him alot. It's his slow delivery and his prepared nervousness. It's great.
“There are no dead ends, only walls in which to do backflips off of”
-joe pera
This will be my year book quote, please remind me at the end of 2022, thank you.
“Joe Pera Talks You to Sleep” brought me here.
Rumor has it Joe Pera started impersonating his grandfather when he was 13yo and hasn’t broken character since
He takes us back to a simpler time that only ever existed in our heads.
"How tall do you think my sons are going to be?"
2:13 "9'11."
That awkward moment when your older than your grandfather.
Some comedians have “it,” and some don’t.
Joe has “it.”
Ryan Gallagher It’s genuinely a good question. I would say me, because I wasted both of our time(s).
I'd say he also has "that".
@@nightvisiongoggles what about "the other"?
i love that he has a 1 person joke
I WANT JOE PERA TO KNOW: I will support you unconditionally until the end of days.
The thing is that Joe can do this act FOREVER and it will just get better and better and better.
# Johnny 5 do you comment on every post? What do you have against joe?
Dynamite I know! I noticed he comments negatively on like every post. He calls ppl bots...I think he must be one!
This is how old people wish all young people acted
Indeed
"That's a one person to show joke". Me: Damnit!
2:12 my man really said "9'11" 😂
I love his voice it’s so soothing no wonder adult swim gave him a show where he talks you to sleep
Protect Joe Pera at all cost hes to wholesome to ever lose
And he uh,
well he umm, you see, he knows
...that the uh...the uh,
the key to comedy is,
well, I'll just come out and and say it,
it is of course
...
...
timing.
When he started asking for heights, someone said 9'11"
I love the fact he is so calm and collected and knows exactly what he is doing. Definitely in the league of Andy Kaufman !!!
I think it's funny that people are making assumptions about his nervousness. He might be 0% nervous and fabricating it entirely, or he might be genuinely very nervous and channeling it into his bit. I think one of the coolest aspects of him is that we don't know which it is, and he might never let us know.
He really is like a glass of warm cider, just nice and cozy.
I give this guy props for originality. I’m glad he’s here. He can stay awhile. Make yourself comfortable Joe. We’ll be watching.
This mans voice brings me peace
Proof you don't need to tell jokes to be funny, he's just a funny person.
When Joe asks the audience how tall his kids will be, at 2:13 someone says "9 11". legend.
why do i love this guy
This is who should've played Fred Rogers!!
I remember meeting this guy a few years ago, and trust me when I say he is EXACTLY like this in real life
The cut to the wide angle of joe after he claims to be able to backflip, with his awkward stance cracks me up
Watching this made me smile it’s actually really hard for the internet to do that he’s like so nice it’s crazy
the first joke he made is a really classic one, he's used it so many times everytime i see him i think of it
This guy is always on fire.
A small, comfortable, closely watched fire.
Oh wow. It's been a long time, everynight I'll play this 8 hours long video called 'Joe Pera Talks You to Sleep' and eventually it became a must for me. And I swear I believe this Joe Pera guy is just my favourite cartoon character that always waiting for me to tell his same stories everynight. To find out he's actually a real person is personally mind-blowing. Thanks for being there every night, my friend. It gave me the same feeling watching the real-life Spiderman movie when I was a kid T.T
Joe Pera brings happiness to my heart.
Joe was just on Townsends crafting a 18th century stool
Aw he's so cute! Did a great job :)
yeah. After seeing many people saying this. I tried looking it up, and
found videos and articles, but I have found no confirmation anywhere
that this is part of his act.
he is adorable
I just wanna give him a big cuddly hug 🥰
He's the most original and genuine stand up I've seen in a very long time. The posture is too freakin funny acting like a 90 year old man. Joe reminds me a lot of Andy Kaufman in some ways
Even if you don’t like it surely you can agree his form of comedy is incredibly smart.
Joe Pera is better than therapy.
2:12 some savage said 9’ 11”
Joe Pera: The therapy comedian.
Joe's a genius. I hope to one day work with him.
