I think you'd be happy to know he's basically just like this but less exaggerated
His character isn't much different from his normal personality. He just acts a bit more like an old man when he's in character but it's not like a huge difference.
I just love how he's only 34 but has the disposition and delivery a pleasant midwestern man in his 70s, sitting on his porch and will talk to anyone about mundane daily life for hours with subtle dry humor and it's always so heartwarming and refreshing.

Some people don't understand Joe Pera. Some comedians are inspired by beer, some weed, Joe is inspired by absurdly underwhelming humor. He is the most rebellious comedian I can think of. If he makes a line he probably ponders for a half hour to see how he could make it more mild, how it could hit like a bubble bath instead of a shot glass.

I'm soo sad that Joe Pera Talks With You is cancelled. Best show on TV IMO. His show just makes you feel wholesome. I really hope someone else picks it up because it was a gem of a show.
Absolutely. The problem was that Season 3 didn't get even a third of the ratings of the first two seasons. Not sure what happened. It was such a well-crafted show that made you laugh without making you feel as though you were looking down on anyone. It was also just really pleasant overall, and in a way that didn't seem contrived. Entirely unique. Might be studied in film classes in the future.
God bless Joe Pera. He's just the best possible thing around and never fails to not just smile, but make me legitimately happy.

@backyardbread I don't think it was scripted. Seth switches to reading from a script when announcing the tour dates at the end. Definitely this gimmick interview was loosely planned, probably with a pre-interview, but I think many of Seth's questions, such as what the movie's budget would be and how audiences will react, were ones Joe had to improvise for. Even if it were scripted, though, that doesn't negate what the OP was saying about giving space. :-)

This felt like Seth interviewing his awkward cousin from out of town and I love it. Joe is hilariously calm the entire time no matter how weird it is

I wasn’t fully sold on Joe until this interview. It’s one thing for him to just rely on The Way That He Is™️ to get a laugh. But he’s clearly a very competent comedian with a well thought-out persona and a strong grasp on what’s funny.
He’s a legend in the making. Just making a whole new style of comedy
Please go see Joe live, it’s too good of a set. Crazy how he implements his improv material from his last two shows and comes up with this. Genuinely cracks me up when he’s laughing at his own jokes and almost breaking character

First time ever seeing this guy and I'm still shaking it off because it's as if he's doing a spot on impression of my father. The posture, the mannerisms, the pace and pronounce of his speech. Sort of creeping me out haha.

This feels like a weird segment with one of the writers and I love it so much. So mad Adult Swim canceled the show because we just need more Joe in our lives.
This was the first time I’ve seen Joe Pera laugh unscripted. In that moment, all my cares evaporated and life got brighter.

I know Joe's comedy is entirely unique to him but after the dead silence following him saying "a thousand" it reminded me of the late Norm McDonald when he would appear on Conan. There was no victim of the joke, no slant or person the gag was at the expense of. Just a non-sensical bit to waste everyone's time. And watching Joe chuckle in self satisfaction that he had his fun is probably why he'll go down as one of the new greats. When you're on stage you tell to jokes to make everyone laugh and you write jokes to make yourself laugh, but when you manage to make both laugh I think it's the true magic of comedy. Big mistake on Adult Swim's part letting him go. He's a treasure, truly.
