I also loved the talk about how long planning takes and giving an annual operating budget with it. I suddenly don't feel as bad that my major home tank upgrade is looking like a 3-year project, nor the fact my wife insisted I figure out a rough operating cost before she was on board. Looking at the electric bill and salt costs alone, made me go from a 4'x8' dream tank down to a 3'x6' dream tank pretty quickly. Which turned out to be a sound decision after the fact.

Great chat guys, enjoyed hearing about the maintenance work flow, it’s very similar to my own maintenance practices.
I like the fact that Austin brought up the monthly maintenance costs, lots of hobbyists seem to not second guess the upfront cost but fall into the trap of not thinking about what it costs to run a tank month after month. It can really add up even in a smaller system.

The same happens in the car world, especially high-line vehicles: people will save up to buy the car, but then won't keep up with the required maintenance (which never ends well). There's no escaping the cost: either pay now or pay later. It hurts more paying later.

My tank has been running now for 14 months and I’m wondering about the chemistry of the water. I’ve been wanting to do an ICP test for a while now just hadn’t got around to doing it. Just had a huge phosphate spike not sure what that’s about. Thanks for all the helpful information your guys rock!
