    Raj nailed it at the end. Seeing something cause so much emotion and excitement by learning something new is what keeps the hobby fun. And most people won't understand why this is a big deal, but i'm excited to see how it evolves

      I love seeing people excited about their passions, no matter what those passions are. Some geek out over sneakers, something I totally don't understand whatsoever, and others over fishy stuff!

    I've had this episode bookmarked for about 3 weeks, so I am TOTALLY late to the party. However, I still have thoughts.
    What Richard is doing is incredibly inspiring. I have been trying, and failing, to spawn Cynarina at home for 2 years now, currently out of luck after BJD wiped my whole population, but this summer I will be rebuilding bigger and better. The 3 months of darkness trick, floating baskets for eggs, and scope for cleaning plugs are all concepts I got from Rich over the years, and I am incredibly excited to get the project back in order.
    Episodes like this are incredibly important for the future of this hobby! I hope to see Rich back on soon to talk more about the Hyacinthus spawn.

    Loved seeing this, spawning has been of personal interest to me for a few years and exited to see it become more consistent over time as it opens the door to trying new approaches.

    A topic I personally hope will continue to grow and expand in this hobby. Shoring up one more sustainable approach to Reefing long-term.
    I love when the industry moves forward on captive aquaculture. And we likely need industry help for numerous "difficult to spawn" species, like certain pelagic spawning fish.
    But, hobbyist could make such a notable dent in spawning corals. All it takes is for one hobbyist to champion there favorite species, to move the ball forward on this one.

    My Yellow tang was bullying my much larger purple tang. I monitored them for a couple of days and realised they were having territorial issues, the purple tang was too stubborn to leave that spot but too weak to win the battle. I ended up adding couple more caribsea donut shaped rocks creating more caves and that has eliminated the aggression.

      @ReefTherapy Will do. Wondering how you like those 160s over the redsea? I have 2 over a 425xl and I'm seeing alittle shading on growing acros. LPS no prob, but may become a problem for SPS when they get big. May need to look into light strips...

    I can't imagine spawning ever being the future....especially knowing the climate hoax has failed.....that was the only policy that threatened our hobby....I just can't fathom growing these things from that small and finding any profit for the effort....

    • @simonlockley-evans3925
      @simonlockley-evans3925 5 місяців тому

      I think with refined processes, spawning could be extremely profitable, especially when you can influence gene expression through selective spawning . It's a risk certainly, but there are those that will master the techniques and probably become quite wealthy as a result.
